The topic foremost on everyone's mind with the Dolphins is the hiring of assistant coaches to be offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Everyone knows the chronicled candidates so far: Rob Chudzinski, Chris Palmer, John Garrett, and Saturday the Dolphins will reportedly interview Brad Childress.
I hate the idea of Childress, by the way.
Why? It doesn't make sense. It doesn't belong. It's not what the Dolphins seem built to do because it means instituting the West Coast offense to a team that doesn't have West Coast offense talent.
It would require finding a quarterback familiar with running the West Coach offense. It would require players in Miami taking a shine to Childress in a way players in Minnesota clearly didn't -- and doesn't coach Tony Sparano have enough issues convincing players about his own credibility to be thinking of also building up the credibility of a coordinator whose questionable reputation precedes him?
Simply, the Brad Childress candidacy does not seem logical to me.
I discussed this and many other Dolphins topics with NFL Network insider Jason LaCanfora on Armando and the Amigo Friday on 640-Sports here in South Florida. LaCanfora made the point, and very well, that we shouldn't really be talking about the next Miami quarterback until the coordinator is hired.
He also explained that the other candidates apparently in the hunt for this job come from a different philosophy and coaching tree than does Childress.
Listen to the interview. Or if you wish, you can tune into the show Monday through Friday between 6-10 a.m. on 640-AM in South Florida or streaming online here. LaCanfora, by the way, appears on my show every Thursday.

clubberlang, THANK YOU! That was well thought out and very informative. I learned something and it was a good read. Good points. And that's all I was trying to do, get a dialogue going so I could see what some others thought. There's no need to get upset over this stuff, life is too short.
Posted by: Account Deleted | January 15, 2011 at 01:35 PM
Good post DC! Awesome stuff, this is what I was hoping for. See I was just asking because I'm ignorant to the whole subject. Before last night I never put any thought into the whole subject. And I appreciate the thoughts and opinions. And what is better is no one is name calling or making unfounded accusations. I think this blog is growing up?! Finally?! :)
Posted by: Account Deleted | January 15, 2011 at 01:40 PM
Oh wait, kris called me an idiot for asking a question. Maybe it's not growing up as quick as I thought.

"It's well-known that a black person who kills a white person is more likely to receive the death penalty than a white person who kills a black person (or a black person who kills a black person). Murder is murder, makes no sense, why the discrepancy?"
DC when they did the study you used as a reference how in depth did they go with it? Did they just look at blacks who killed whites as opposed to the opposite in terms of numbers?
That's what it sounds like you're saying. And if that's the case the discrepancy could have many contributing factors.
I'm not going to lay out a bunch of 'how it may have happened stories' because it won't look good on me and I will only be vilified. I'm just saying without all of the facts those studies are meaningless.

Okay I'll stop. Had my fun now back to phins football.
Hey who does everyone think we should draft or sign as our starting qb? How about OC, who would be a good fit? hahahahahaha kidding ;)
Posted by: Account Deleted | January 15, 2011 at 01:53 PM
I like in the audio above the guy says we have been sitting on the couch for the last 10 years watching the playoffs. Does he remembers who the AFC EAST champions two years ago. Jeez talk about a memory lapse. We just need a QB and we will be fine. The rest of the pieces are there.
Posted by: greg | January 15, 2011 at 01:53 PM
Please to anyone new read my posts entirely before passing judgment. I was only asking a question because I'm bored and didn't understand the whole thing fully. I do not want to be labeled as the blog racist because of a thought provoking question. See ya.

I am not sure what I am feeling right now as a long time fan of the team. After all of the disappointments and rollercoaster type emotions through the years and specifically the last two when so much hope was placed on Paecell's ability (desire) to improve our team I am tired, drained, emotionless. I feel as if I just got throu 15 rounds against a heavyweight bruiser.
I have had enough of Sparano, Ireland, the coaching search, the QB talk, in general, I have had enough of this Team.
I ask, is the agravation we go throug worth it?
Not to me any more.
How do you feel?
Posted by: LosingFaith | January 15, 2011 at 02:28 PM
Mando is an idiot. We wiil get no O.C. because of what happened will Sparano. ( nobody trusts Ross, would you work for him ? ). We will get a crappy Q.B. because we will have to settle ( probably for Young, so he can run around Miami, naked with a gun.)We can't steel anyone else from Dallas because the fat Tuna F-UP left with the money and we have no more drug connection! Ross royally f-uped an organization that was once was the winningest franchise in sports history!!!! Shula will be rolling in his grave long after he dies from this crap. And to top it all off you idiots sit there with your useless rhetoric uselessly spewing nonesense like we'll draft this one, we will trade for this one. We will not even get an O.C. unless he comes from a HIGH SCHOOL TEAM!!!! DAMN!!!

Michael loves Cher, great! Go wear a damn dress and head over to Miami- Dade Correctional! Damn...

This team is pathetic. What a waste of my time and money.
Posted by: Tim | January 15, 2011 at 03:31 PM
Per pft....
But one assistant whose job was safe is Garrett’s brother, John Garrett. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Garrett will be retained as the team’s tight ends coach and passing game coordinator.
John Garrett had interviewed for a job on the Dolphins’ coaching staff, but he’s going to stay where he is, with his brother as his boss.

ALoco, Tom Cable is a miami dolphin! deal with it!
Posted by: Assmando Salguero | January 15, 2011 at 04:48 PM
Dan Deerdorph is a horrible announcer. The guy makes guess calls then holds to them even when the video shows the opposite happen.
Just like Billy Packer calling NCAA games.
Plus he has always hated the Dolphins.
Posted by: Oregon Dolphin fan | January 15, 2011 at 04:52 PM
Should have been a personal foul on the steelers with the late hit.
Dolphins do that automatic PF.
Looks like the league wants the steelers to win again today.

this miami dolphins franchise is ran by idiots! they go out and draft bust like pat white instead of making some trades and finding mid round studs like mike wallace!

THERE'S AN ISSUE OF VIOLENCE W/CABLE ,HIS WIFE TOOK A COURT ORDER AGAINST HIME AFTER HITTING HER IN THE FACE AND ANOTHER TIME HE HIT AN ASS TO HIM IN THE FACE .THEN IN 2009 HIS NEW GIRL FRIEND SAID HE HIT HER IN THE FACE 3 OR 4 TIMES......LOL

Mistakes happen all the time, even to the best.

Not sure I understand the "LOL" in regards to spousal abuse, ALoco. As far as I'm concerned, guys that do that are the scum of the Earth and deserve nothing but scorn.

NT Scott....saw your post about re-maling your point.....I agree....owners should be able interview and hire whoever they want without restictionss or extra provisions.....
If thats the point you were making then I agree.......
Also to your later post about me....I never called yo an idiot...i said your post was idiotic......there is a difference and I stand behind it.....when you put it in the original context i which I said it.....(rants about generalization....which led you to post a generalizaion)......
In any case your football post are good reads and i respect your opinions on football matters.....

IT' OFFICAL, JHON GARRET HAS BEEN PROMOTED TO BE (( PASSING GAME COORDINATOR ))....................
Posted by: ALoco | January 15, 2011 at 05:33 PM
ALoco, fair enough. Cable should be ashamed of himself for behaving like such a troglodyte to women.
Pisses me off that the NFL only gives a slap on the wrist to these moronic cretins who abuse women but treats pot smoking like the crime of the century. Totally ass-backwards priorities.
Posted by: dan | January 15, 2011 at 05:38 PM
Ravens came to play.
Posted by: Oregon Dolphin fan | January 15, 2011 at 05:42 PM
Totally agree Dan.
Posted by: Oregon Dolphin fan | January 15, 2011 at 05:44 PM
Love how the Ravens play football. It's not exciting, but it sure is solid.
Absolutely one of the three best-run franchises in the game (along with the other team in this game and NE)
Posted by: dan | January 15, 2011 at 05:53 PM
Dan,
They are a well run organization....no one should be able to argue that.....they draft well, bring in players that fit their sytem, and play tough hard-nosed football.....
Having said all of that and habing a 21-7 lead....I think they will lose.....its just Pitt a while to wake up
Posted by: Kris | January 15, 2011 at 05:59 PM
This is the slowest 2 min offence ever.....but it does seem to be effective.....they are moving the ball
Posted by: Kris | January 15, 2011 at 06:00 PM
anyone knows who is the frontrunner to be our offensive cord?
Posted by: mr kahn | January 15, 2011 at 06:03 PM
Fat face Big Ben.....kinda looks like fat face Chad Henne.....there's still hope!!!
Grow a beard Chad!
Posted by: Kris | January 15, 2011 at 06:06 PM
Probably Chudzinski, mr. kahn, but no doubt they'll be talking to some more guys.
I don't see why a few folks think this is something that has to done immediately. There's no games and no practices going on---and might not be for a LONG time with the labor situation.
I want a thorough search.
Posted by: dan | January 15, 2011 at 06:08 PM
Silly article and respect your point of view but out of all the candidates being interviewed CLEARLY Childress is the BEST and most experienced option to run an offense.... maybe the Dolphins should change to west coast since their EAST coast offense has done NOTHING for the past 20 years!!
Posted by: joeywatts | January 15, 2011 at 06:10 PM
I agree rob in OC get von miller if he's there and Cyrus gray next year resign thigpen get Jocoby Jones
Posted by: Ju | January 15, 2011 at 06:11 PM
thanks dan, folks just want to move forward n forget about this horrible season,in armondo story mark bulger was mentioned think he would be an excellent pickup for us
Posted by: mr kahn | January 15, 2011 at 06:12 PM
No problem with the West Coast offense stylistically (although ANY offense can work with the right players) but I'd warn that if there's a player lockout this year it would probably more resemble the "Toilet Bowl" offense at first.
You can't implement a new system without being able to practice it. Teams like the Dolphins putting in a new system (even if it's not WC) could be at a very severe disadvantage this year if the labor situation drags. Won't matter at all how bright the OC is in that scenario.
