Ross at Dolphins camp Monday, meets with Sparano, Ireland

The meeting Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland were to have with owner Stephen Ross began in earnest this afternoon.

Ross arrived at the Dolphins facility at 1 p.m. Monday and stayed for several hours -- outlasting some employees that left at the close of business, The Herald's Jeff Darlington is reporting.

I am reporting Ross met with Ireland first and Sparano afterward.

Ross was in the company of club Chief Executive Officer Mike Dee.

It is reasonable to believe the club owner is allowing Sparano to give his version of what happened with the Dolphins in 2010 and a plan for addressing everything that is wrong -- including whether he would fire or relieve any assistants and what his plan would be for addressing obvious definciencies on the team, including the quarterback position.

It has been known for weeks that Sparano's job is on the line. The season-ending three-game losing skid, including the 38-7 loss to New England in the season finale did not help matters for the incumbent coach. A 1-7 record at home is also an issue that Ross was unhappy about this season.

"It was a productive meeting," Ross told Darlington this evening while at Sun Life Stadium for the Orange Bowl game.

On Monday, Sparano met with the media and gave few details on what he planned to tell Ross, with few being defined as none.

“I’m not going to get into that," Sparano said. "That’s going to be between me and Mr. Ross and we’ll go through that. But, I’m not going to get into all or any of those things right now.”

Sparano was asked how he would convince Ross he is the right man to coach the team going forward -- even as potential candidates Jon Gruden and Jim Harbaugh were working at Sun Life Stadium tonight, one as an announcer for ABC, the other as the Stanford head coach leading his team during the Orange Bowl.

"I’m not going to get into my plan with Mr. Ross," Sparano said, meaning he wasn't going to share the plan with the media.

The fact the meeting with Sparano was likely happening one day after the season ended suggests Ross plans to move fairly quickly in making a decision about the coach.

Isn't anything sacred to you guys? I don't think this forum is for picking up anyone, no matter how f'ing confused he is. Go to your club and look there. This is a f'ing football blog. Jeeezzzz!

I know watching Mark Ingram (Alabama) play the other day was a damn treat... Great power and some nifty moves... Speed??? Not so much. But Ingram was impressive enough to warrant a sub 20 pick for certain.

Derek good post.
Question is can we convince Mike Nolan to stay.
He wants to be a head coach again some day so he is really just a stop gap.
Don't get me wrong - I wish he was a keeper!

Nice to see Blaine Gabbert declaring himself ready to enter the Draft in April. Not sure what round he's projected to go in but i would'nt complain if we selected him.

Shake and bake frenchy.............

Get rid of the whole New Jersey Parcells guys.I want a organization that is nice to the media and fans.

Deutschland and Vietnam,

Don't forget that we kicked some French butt in Quebec in the 1760's and sent them home to mama!

Just a Parcells was a big lie

So is the Federal Reserve

Which is not a government institution and answers to nobody

Once I learned how purely evil the Federal Reserve was and how it's a total scam on the American people, I knew that both parties and our press was in on the scam because they NEVER told me that the Federal Reserve was a private bank and that all our tax money goes to the Rothschilds and Rockefellers and a few others! Everything we were told in school was a lie!

I will be disappointed if Ireland keeps his job. I don't care what happens to Sparano. Over the long haul, it's players, not coaches, who determine if you're a winner or not and it's Ireland's job to get the right players and he hasn't.

I like gabbert a lot. He's the second rated QB on both scouts and mcshays board. I thought he was great in the bowl game even though he threw that last INT that lost them the game.

Gabba gabba hey!

Georgia, sorry schemes matter and being able to put players where they can succeed also matters. There was no creativity in our offense this year. I was just watching NFL network disect a Pat play where they had welker and woodhead in the back field. It was amazing how they schemed this play which got wood head wide open. When was the last time we had a creative play from henning? Maybe one play. The touchdown pass to fasano when henne went one way and threw it back to fasano for TD. That's it. Henning sucks. I bet a better oc can do a lot better with our offensive talent as is.

here it comes, everyone stays, and it's back to the same old sh%t next season. boring, no excitement what so ever,a crap load of field goals another losing season, suck boy henne at qb. the usual. just like i thought ross is clueless. by the way it is mike d from the beastie boys!

The thing with Ireland, was it his choices or Parcells, I'm going with Parcells, no way he lets anybody else pick players.

Ross is probably waiting to speak to Gruden and/or Harbaugh, hopefully Harbaugh!!!

I'm in the UK for now so after watching the Orange Bowl and waking up next morning hopefully Sparano is gone, wish him well and all but the waiting is killing me today lol

By January 21st we should have an idea what is going on with Dolphin coaches

and the following day the world we become aware of a much bigger problem ...

*WORLD CHEMTRAIL AWARENESS DAY – January the 22nd, 2011*

CHAD .P ON SPARANO................(( BEFORE THE COACH CAME HERE THE DOLPHINS WERE 16-32 AND IN THE LAST 3 YEARS WE ARE 25-23 W/AFC CHAMPIONSHIP ,THE RIGHT MAN FOR THIS TEAM IS TONY SPARANO))

Fella's forgive me for being a day late and a dollar short but I have a question.

Did anyone hear the ref that threw the the PI flag late in the game against NE say to a Dolphin player that he "gave you that" "you know I gave you that don't you"?

I swear I heard it but I could be wrong. You know it's a bad day when the refs feel sorry for you and Belicheat runs on 4th down instead of kicking a field goal.LOL. (It gave us the yardage we needed to score anyway. No shutout)

Thanks for answering a question that should have been asked about 2 blogs ago.........

Joe

There is QB named Luck playing tonight in Chemtrail Death Stadium in Miami

Blowfish may be scouting him

it's true no one wants the job, so ross is stuck with these jokers again. this team will fall very quickly to the bottom.

Can you believe some folks are saying bring Ted Ginn back...why cause he was so good in San Fran this year? Idiots.

What else do the idiots say...fire everybody start from scratch...right back to 1-15.

Mr Ross please don't listen to the folks on this blog. Upgrade the coaching staff if there are better options available, the same goes for the players and the QB. That's the first step. Next we need to change offensive systems, this one worked in the 90's but the game has moved on. We need to be able to run 3 and 4 WR sets most plays and have a TE and RB that can run like the wind and catch the ball.

Do not make change just for changes sake, every move must be an upgrade and be part of a comprehensive plan for the future.

R & R...
Yes, I believe Nolan will stay. Dishpan made a reference to last years draft and it being all Defense. I still believe Miami did the right thing there because it has become THE ONE side of the ball where there is a sound foundation. I also believe that Dishpan was right when he said many were foolish to think Miami was a playoff ready team after just 3 drafts. I really feel we gloss over JUST HOW BAD THIS TEAM HAD BECOME IN 07.

There was only a small handful of players that were NFL starters on the whole damn team. The first draft barely got our feet off the ground, the second had some head scratcher's and some good ones and we HAD to do a defensive draft or suffer the plight of a Defenseless team... Arizona, Buffalo etc.

Now, we are on our Offensive draft... It SHOULD BE a great day... but failure to answer the QB position for the last 11 years has made it another nightmare..

If Sparano does not survive this... Do not be one bit surprised to see Harbaugh at HC w/ his choice of OC... and Nolan running the D...

On the same breath.... Do not be one bit surprised to see NOLAN at HC with HIS choice of OC... he would do the D-co work with the help of a Assistant HC.

So... R & R... In truth... I see Nolan as the ONE guy Ross will be unwilling to part with unless Cowher or another big shot style guys comes in... and I still doubt that scenario 100%

they don't know how to upgrade. they know how to downgrade though.

NOLAN WAS UPGRADE D77

BREAKING NEWS GUYS, GO TO PROFOOTBALLWEEKLY NOW!

SPARANO HAS BEEN FIRED AND JEFF IRELAND RETAINED. MIAMI WILL BEGIN SEARCHINGING FOR VACANCY WITH INTERVIEWS WITH RON RIVERA OF SAN DIEGO, MARTY MORNINHWHEG IN PHILLY AND INTERNALLY WITH MIKE NOLAN.

I'm back for now while the wife talks on phone lol.

Anything new or same ol discussions?

if they did get rid of sparano, why in the hell would you keep ireland? he is part of the problem. cowher is no longer in the picture because he wanted his own people to come in there.

Roland, were u born an ass-hole or are u taking after ur parents? Douche

dolphin77

I hear you on blowing it up and starting with a new regime but I I keep saying that none of us know the capacity of Jeff Ireland prior to now. Ireland might have just been a puppet to Parcells with no authority outside of scouting players. I would like to see a whole new direction to but who knows what imprint Ireland can put on this team at the controls alone.

If he and Ross fail to show Sparano the door then I wouldn't be happy at all.

IF COWHER WANTS TO COACH IN MIAMI ,HE GOT TO COACH THE NEW ENGLAN WAY,HE COACHES ONLY AND THAT'S IT ,NOT BRING HIS WHOLE TRIBE WITH HIM THEN HE HOLD THE TEAM HOSTAGE FOR EVER .

JEFF DARLINGTO JUST SPOKE TO ROSS WHO TOLD HIM (( IT WAS A PRODUCTIVE MEETING ))

Ross is a Phin phan from many years ago. He gives a damn about this franchise.

With that being said, he is also a shrewd businessman. If Sparano is retained, something big will have to happen, like a first round QB selected, in order to spin this situation to the season ticket holders.

bobbyD12,

I would say Roland was born one lol.

I just saw espn news tracker and it says "Sparano to meet with owner Stephen Ross" and then the online Herald says they already met this afternoon. I guess we should know by tomorrow or so if Sparano is staying or going.

JB, I NEVER THOUGHT OF THE TIE BETWEEN A QB IN FIRST ROUND AND SEASON TICKETS,VERY GOOD POINT .

i guess we will find out.

NOLAN WAS UPGRADE D77

------------------------------------------

Good Post, Aloco....

No reason to toss more on this fire then needed... EVERYTHING is not wrong here.... and EVERYTHING this regime has done has not been wrong... I can understand (And feel also) the anger and the disappointment at what has taken place.... But I also know if you stand this team up shoulder to shoulder with the team this regime had when they arrived... It is night and day.... It certainly is not ALL GOOD... they made their errors... But they did some nice moves also... had they not, No one would have had this many expectations that they are now regretting.

Something is wrong... they need to find it, fix it and move forward... nothing is an "END ALL of END ALL'S".... time to move on...

Well, Roland, you made me look. Joke's on me.

I understand why some folks don't want to fire Sparano for the sake of continuity but for crying out loud, did you watch the games this year? He has not improved in his clock management, has no guts, plays not to lose, is confused most of the time, signs off on pathetic offensive playcalling, staunchly supports a QB who doesn't have the tools to get it done, blames individual players (e.g. Bess, Carpenter) for losses, etc.

As for Marshall - he dropped exactly four balls that were his fault. The rest were high, behind or underthrown. If anything, Bess and Marshall made Henne's stats better because they are so talented and can catch things people like Hartline can't. Oh, Camarillo could have, BTW.

JB,

If Sparano is retained a QB won't be drafted because they will be expected to win right away and that can happen with a rookie but most of time doesn't.

I don't know if they plan on going McNabb or trading for Kolb or Vince Young but there is no way this can be pushed on season ticket holders. Sparano has to go in my opinion.

Only thing I would like to know is...Does Sparano has control of his team?? Defeats happen, but we did not see a recuperation from the team. CAN HE CONTROL THE TEAM??? CAN HE HAVE A REASONABLE HANDLE ON THINGS WHERE THOSE DON´T GET OUT OF HAND LIKE IT APPEARS IT DID? WHAT THE HELL HAPPEN TO THE OL??? seems to me that had a lot to do with these disaster, hence Henne regressing badly...

NO CHANGE ,NO CHANGE BUT FIRING ALL THE PIZZA COACHES .

I PREDICT SPARANO WILL STAY .

get rid of most of the idiots on this blog

Jimmy Jam,

don't feel bad, Roland is a clown but jokes on me as well. I looked.

I can't understand how people say Henne had no weapons at all either. Marshall is an elite WR and Bess is a very good slot receiver. A speed receiver would help of course but Henne hasn't consistantly made the deep pass. Remember firt play vs Jets in opener? Henne missed Hartline by 10 yards after Hartline beat his man. That play sticks out because I was at that game, my first Dolphins game and I am 29.

what's gonna happen next season when they go 8-8 or 7-9 again? will ross have another meeting to evaluate everyone?

I CAN SAY THE BEST GUY AROUND IS JEFF DARLINGTO ,HE DOESN'T GO OVER BOARD W/ANY NEWS ....

Do you think Ross will ask if Ireland's Mother is a prostitute??
LOL

no he will tell him he's relly his father!

Bobby you are a turd sandwich! Andy you are Snookys butt cleaner in jersey shore, and jimmy jam its profootballtalk.com not weekly sorry bud.

Bobby,

I would be fine with giving Williams a one year deal but only once we've drafted some young stud. Williams would be his backup. it would also be after we've found out what kind of money Bush is looking for.

Kris, I never said it was RIGHT for the Jags to bring back Del Rio, I only made mention that some teams seem to be much more patient than our fans. Secondly, with the Texans and Jags bringing their coaches back it doesn't mean they are settling for mediocrity. On the contrary they realize what the problem is, in their case the defence and have made changes to improve it. There's more than 'one way to skin a cat'.

really!

Roland, seriously bro? Get a life man.

GOOD OL = mediocre to good QB play and good running game = win games, maybe not a SB, but a good team.

BAD OL = bad QB + bad running game = bad receivers = bad OC = bad Head Coach = home losses = etc etc etc

Andy,

Not saying Sparano won't be fired. Simply stating that the businessman in Ross will force the issue in order to icrease season ticket sales.

If that is the case a veteran QB will be brought in as a stop gap.

Andy,

The talk is that the Eagles were looking for TWO first round picks for Kolb before the season started. If that's the case you can forget about anyone trading for him....he'll be a backup in Philly again this year.

Vou massisi, pierre.

If Ross keeps Sparano I GUARANTEE he losses 10000 season ticket holders minimum!

Ed,

I hope so, then I could get a pretty good seat upgrade.

We DONT want Cam Newton! Dont you guys ever learn? Vince Young, Daunte Caulpepper, Jamarcuss Russell, etc etc etc! We want Luck Mallett or Locker. Thats IT!

JB,

yeah I can see that drafting a QB then add a veteran as the bridge. I thought you meant just bring in a vet and thats it. To me that is the ideal siuation anyway to draft a rookie and bring in a vet too. I make no secret about Luck, Mallet and Newton.

Luck is clearly an elite talent and #1 overall type of pick.

Mallet and Newton are both top 20 players in this draft. Taking either of the 2 at 15 is fine by me. But so is taking Justin Blackmon or Mark Ingram.

Miami needs a face of the franchise caliber player and particularly at QB

lol omontero75

What If the Dolphins hire Harbaugh and Luck does come out and is chosen with the first pick in the 2011 draft, but he pulls a Manning and refuse's to sign with Carolina, but wants to be traded to the Dolphins to play with his former college coach...now wouldn't that be interesting.

If Sparano answers Ross's questions similar to the way he answers the media, then he's in trouble.

HAHAHA ARMANDO YOU REALLY CRAPPED THE BED ON THAT LAST ARTICLE YOU POSTED.

MANDY, YOU GAVE MUCH PRAISE TO THE PATRIOTS AND THEIR STELLAR ORGANIZATION.

YET YOU MISSED THE POINT. WHEN YOU SAID A HALL OF FAME QB ISN'T AROUND AFTER SPOT 15.

WHAT ROUND WAS BRADY DRAFTED? FREEMAN? RODGERS? TO NAME A FEW.

THIS TEAM LACKS EVALUATION SKILLS. AND AN OFFENSIVE VISION.
