Dolphins' ridiculous order of business continues

If you listen to my radio show or follow me on twitter, you know what's coming next: Cue the circus music. Send in the clowns.

Are you ready for this?

You probably know by know several reports, including this one in The Miami Herald, are saying the Dolphins have decided to retain Tony Sparano as Miami's head coach. Awesome! I've been advocating that all along quite forcefully, I believe.

But I have no issues that owner whatshisface has sampled the market to see if he could find an upgrade at coach. Nothing wrong with that. I have, however, a distaste for the manner that was done. And today that distaste grows.

The fact is that while sources within the team and close to owner whatshisface have leaked to various media the fact Sparano was to be retained, I know that no one told Sparano this.

Think about that ...

So the sources are telling the media. But they are not telling the principle person involved most affected by the news.

Stunning. Embarrassing. More embarrassing, actually. Head-scratching.

I do know there is a meeting planned for today between ownership and Sparano. I don't know when or where, but I assume the purpose is to break the news to Sparano that was broken first to the media.

One can assume Sparano will come out of this meeting the head coach of the Dolphins. But I cannot guarantee that. Who knows what other things owner whatshisface has up his sleeve and might want to spring on his coach.

And who knows if Sparano, hung out to dry the last four days while the Dolphins chased other coaches across the country, might not agree to be retained.

Strange? Thy name is the Miami Dolphins in January 2011.

The sky is not falling Armando. Sparano is holding it up.

ARMANDO,

YOU SHOULD SHOW MORE RESPECT TO ROSS IN YOUR POST .HE'S 70 YEARS OLD AND TO CALL HIM NAMES IS REALLY BAD,AS FOR SPARANO ,THERE'S NO THING THERE.NO NEED FOR TRYING TO CREAT ISSUES WHERE'S NONE

Ross is clueless which is why he is sticking with Ireland, asking Parcells for advice and relying on Peterson.

The dolphins are handling things the wrong way because the owner doesnt know what he is doing.

If Sparano has any pride he will quit. The players will have little if any respect for him.

1st!

Ok now that that's settled, let's go out and get Vince Young so we can focus on a running back in the first round

strange? uh, not really.

every day Tony and his GM buddy leave players out to dry. every day they are looking to replace the players so why should it be different for them?

You think Tony has told Henne, "you are our man next year?" NOPE!

This is part of the professional sports world.

This entire debacle has me embarrassed to call myself a Dolphins fan. I couldn't even look my best friend in the eye yesterday when talking about this entire mess, and he's a Jets fan.

I wouldn't blame Coach Sparano one bit if he told Ireland, Peterson and Ross to stuff it and just walked away. It would serve them right. I guarantee you he would land another job no problem. If nothing else then as an offensive line or tight end coach somewhere.

hawkfin,

Vince Young? Are you serious? Imagine his immaturity in a nightlife like Miami. He would be making rain, getting in strip club fights and threatening to kill himself if he gets benched, no thanks!

HOW ARMANDO KNOWS THEY DIDN'T TELL SPARANO ?

Okay crybaby Mando, you got your wish, you and Tony can still hug each other everyday. Do us all a favor and don't come on your blog after week after week losses and blame him. He is yours now live with it.

A legit QB would bring legitimacy back to this franchise. Period. Draft one and bring in a veteran to hold the offense down for a year or two. No more draft picks given up please.

Oh, and Mike Nolan is looking like a really nice coaching option right about now.

Seriously this needs to stop. All of the Dolphins beat writers are up in arms about all of this. It's a big boys league, do you get like this when they release players?? How about what they did to Kevin Curtis, Al Harris, Jake Grove, Donald Thomas..Do I need to go on?

On top of all that, you have ZERO proof what was said behind closed doors...has ANYONE ever considered maybe they wanted to bring on Harbaugh for OC?? None of you have a clue as to what was said to Soprano or anyone else about all of this. You take a bit of information that his plane flew to California and assume the worst.

As a member of the media, you should be ashamaed as to how you're reacting to all of this. Wait until you know what the heck is going on before you form an opinion.

I think players will respect Sparon even more after all of this. Crisis can bring people together as frequently as it separates them. When a person of Sparano's character is in the midst of it all, usually it brings people together. I feel good about the coming year(s) with Sparano and a new OC.

The problem you media people have is you are always getting your information from an "insider" that has a source, that heard from another source, that heard from another source what's happening. It's all BS unless you hear it with your own ears Mando so stop with your knee jerck reactions like you know what's going on because all of your information is third hand. With that said I can't believe this once respected organization is bringing back a lame duck coach after they hung him out to dry. I do think Sparano should be gone and wish he was as of today because he will not have any credibility with fans or the players after this debacle.

Aloco, let me do this in a manner you understand:

RESPECT IS EARNED. AND IT DOES NOT HAPPEN FOR PEOPLE SIMPLY BY SURVIVING LONG ENOUGH TO BE OLD.

CHARLES MANSON IS OLD. WOULD YOU RESPECT HIM SIMPLY BECAUSE OF HIS AGE?

(How long before someone gets their underwear in a wad and says I compared whatshisname to Manson? Please, people, don't be that dumb.)

Sparano and Nolan, both walking out, leaving Ross and Ireland with no coaches at all, Chucky and Cower saying no, is what this team deserves.
No Class Ross and Turncoat Ireland need to be fired! Can we fire the owner? Please!

Tony Sparano churned the roster constantly and recruited new players while the current player was still on the team - why should he expect any different treatment? Why is it so freaking awful for Ross to look for a better coach while headging his bet (and his $$$$) and not firing the current one? That's that same business model Sparano and Ireland use on the players so they should somehow expect different treatment?

Peterson and Ross may know exactly what they're doing. Drive away the fan base and there would be very little opposition to moving the team to the west coast.

Remember it was reported Ross flew to Southern California for UNDISCLOSED business purposes while he was out there? The media should be digging more into what those UNDISCLOSED business purposes were. THAT MAY BE A FAR BIGGER STORY THAN THIS SPARANO MESS!

You're 2 hours late Armando. I posted this story link from PFT 2 hours ago.

Dolphins fans (assuming there are any left) need to really come to grips with how far away the Dolphins are from the New England Patriots in every facet imaginable.

The difference between Brady and Henne. The difference between Belichick and Sparano. The difference between the Patriots ability to recognize talent and the Dolphins ability to recognize talent. You name it.

How anyone could support this inept, colossal joke of an organization on any level is beyond me.

Mike, while that may be true of some folks in the media, to paint everyone with that broad brush is ridiculous.

I know what I'm being told and I know who is telling me. You can decide to believe or not. But to question without knowing? You're like some of those media types you revile.

There's a part of me that would like Sparano to tell Ross to take his job and.... just to make this whole thing an even greater circus! So far this is more entertaining than the last three actual football games this franchise was a part of.

What WestTNFinFan said.

I wonder if they eventually announce Sparano back & Harbaugh calls Ross & says yes. Imagine how good that will look when we can Tony & sign Harbaugh? LOL That would be CLASSIC!

Armando,

What's up bro? So it's unofficial if Sparano is retained or just unofficial if he will accept to stay on now that he has been humiliated?

What's you gut feeling?

WHAT DOES HENNIFAH YOPEZ THINK ABOUT ALL OF THIS?

Armando,

YOU MEDIA HEADS NEED TO DIG DEEPER INTO WHAT WAS ROSS' UNDISCLOSED BUSINESS IN S. CAL WHILE HE WAS OUT THERE. THAT COULD LEAD TO THIS TEAM BECOMING THE LA DOLPHINS SOMETIME IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE.

ASK YOUESELVES IS ROSS PURPOSELY ALIENATING THE FAN BASE TO DECREASE OPPOSITION TO JETTING THE TEAM OUT OF MIAMI!

ARMANDO ,

I AM SORRY TO SAY YOU SOUND LIKE MARC.

TO BRING IN MASON IN THE DISCCUSION IT'S DIRTY ,MR ROSS WENT OUT TO IMPROVE THE TEAM .HE FAILED IN THAT ,NOW TO CALL HIM NAMES AND TO SOUND HEARTLESS IT'S APPALLING ,WHEN I READ YOUR ANSWER TO ME I FELT THAT MARC WROTE THAT ....YOU OWE MR ROSS AN APOLOGY TO DO WHAT'S RIGHT AND TO FOLLOW YOUR LECTURE TO US ABOUT LOVE,DIGNITY AND RESPECT .

I always read the great posts on this blog by the writers and readers. The Miami Dolphins are in a bit of disarray and need to make a few changes in order to be more successful. Many solutions are obvious (new OC, RB, OL, etc.) but some are less apparent.

One important aspect overlooked in the fight to fix Miami is fan support. The Miami Dolphins NEED more fan support right now. I remember a poll from the 1990’s that had the Dolphins ranked as America’s third favorite team. That seems like a lifetime ago. Most of you are probably thinking… win more games and the fans will come. That is a great point but leaves us powerless to change the current situation.

Wasn’t our home record a pathetic 1-7? Again we know where to place blame (Henning, Henne, dropped interceptions, dirty scumbag refs, stupid penalties, etc.) but imagine we had a sold out stadium that made so much noise the opposing quarterback had trouble receiving and delivering the play call. Imagine when ESPN and the NFL tried to pull BS and never show any love for Miami we spoke up and made so much noise they had to listen. Imagine when the stupid pundits on TV talked about how great the Patriot SB victories of the past were they mentioned they were CHEATERS not Gods.

I read the blogs often and post seldom. There are too many fans directing their anger toward the Miami Organization and not at the NFL, CBS, NBC, and ESPN. This is a new year and a new beginning for Miami. Nobody is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, and our past is filled with things we wish we could change. Let’s focus our energy on making things we can do to help our team win and right now that is improving fan support.

Thanks for reading.

Hey Mando, this was a terrible way to do business. If you are right, would sparano go tell ross to F himself. wouldn't that be somethin?

Anyway, as bad as this smells and looks, the good thing is their are showers and lipstick.

there are ways if you want to look at it that the Phins will be OK.

It's cool, Joe. PFT credited The Herald and my twitter.

Tell Mr. Ross to drop his allegiance to Peterson & Parcells because until Ireland & Sparano are gone our ability to land a decent coach is severely compromised.

biggest loser of all time?? STEPHEN ROSS!!! It feels so good to be fan of a joke franchise..I mean been a full heart fan but this is too lame for me. btw ROSS why dont you turn the whole stadium into a celebrity party zone and drop the whole team? and what is a team without fans? hmm so many questions. ROSS IS A JOKE!!!!

You just wonder how Ross became so rich when you watch all these horrible moves he has made. Its really confusing. I am without much hope for my beloved dolphins- this sucks.

Owner whatshisface, that is freaking awesome!!

GO SPARANO AND GO DOLPHINS!

ALoco, like I said before, sooner or later you have to draft a 1st round grade Qb. It's the only way to get really good and contend.

Sure, there are many busts, like I illustrated before there are 6 instances when Miami had a 1st round pick with a 1st round grade QB on the board and passed (Claussen, Ryan, Quinn, Losman, Rodgers, and Brees). Half of those are on the way to the hall of fame and half of those will be on the biggest loser in the future after getting fat and becoming millionaires without having to do something.

Too risky you say, better to go with a position player. Well, those 6 Miami draft picks in those years were Odrick, Long, Ginn, Carey, Ronnie brown, and Jamar Fletcher. Not exactly a 100% hit raio either. Who knows what Odrick will do but you can really say only one of those players will be Canton bound - Long. Carey is very serviceable - brown was very average - Ginn and Fletcher were complete busts. So it looks like your better chances on picking someone who will have a greater impact on your franchise - and the safer pick overall is the QB.

Not exactly what we are told by the doomsdayers and draft gurus, is it???

The only way to fix the Miami Dolphins is getting rid of the Bad decision makers, so they just need a NEW GM, a NEW QB and PRO Offensive Coordinator, for immediate improvement.

Dear Mr. Salguero

Found by an ageing Bill Parcells and left to survive on his own to soon

Surrounded by enemies, The Acorn Hunter , The Billionaire, Mike I need receipts Dee and Dan The Brain Henning (Recently vanquished)

A legend was born

Forged on the fires of the coaching hot seat, he will rule with an Iron Fist Pump

Soiled :)

Dolphin Disciple, well you have one guy here who is renewing his season tickets. I agree 100% GO PHINS!!!

ROSS WILL RE-PITCH HARBAUGH NEXT SEASON. THIS TIME NOT ONLY WILL ROSS BE BRINGING THE MONEY TO HARBAUGH, HE'LL BE BRINGING THE TEAM TOO.

ROSS:

"JIM HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO COACH THE LA DOLPHINS? TOLD YOU LAST LAST YEAR I WOULD BE BRINGING THE TEAM TO THE WEST COAST AND YOU DIDNT BELIEVE ME." LOL...

One more thing…

When New England was caught cheating they should have had to pay a 10 year fine that was spent on an independent organization to monitor the Patriots actions and review all accounting records to prevent further cheating. If they cheated once why wouldn’t they cheat again? Because the penalty was so severe? NO. Because they are good people? NO. Because they play fair? NO.

Oh yea in their “rebuilding” year their 14-2. That makes sense. And Pittsburgh should have received possession on the 1 yd. line. Absolutely the Saints scored on us in 09, the ref didn’t see the fumble right in front of his FACE. Yeah Right… wake up people.

Stop creaming for New England people. Your making me sick. They are F*cking cheaters... so stop the madness.

armando, i have been a fan for over 40 years and the way this situation was handled was very poor in taste, i think the person they need to get rid of is Ireland what has he brought to the table, from what i could see the only reason we got Marshall, and Dansby was cause of Parcells, not Ireland if sparono is smart he will walk away from this situation andhe could probally get a o-line job with a better organization. from this media circus i wonder what kind of a team we will have in 2011.

Inept from the top down. What has happened to this franchise in such a short period of time. So damn sad!

Vince Young ??? he was complaining about not having Fishers Trust.. imagine what would happen under this group.

Vann, what we are realizing is Ross is beginning to learn that being an NFL owner is not the same as being a real estate mogul.

His intentions are wonderful, his execution is amatuerish & piss poor at best.

I don't know Mando it seems as a fan with a little work searching the internet we get the same information some of you media people get multiple hours before most of you print it and nine times out of ten it's a reiteration of what we already knew. I'm not solely directing this towards you but the media in general for the most part I like reading your column but sometimes you seem get a little frantic about the team like you know everything that's going on and you don't know 100% what's being said behind close doors hell the miami dolphins coach didn't know and still doesn't know his own fate and future with this team.

Bring in Leach as OC, guy has a brilliant offensive mind and his college issues mean jack squat in the pros

Mando, I don't feel sorry for Sparano. He always talks about upgrading players on his team and cut players if they make mistakes and now he is getting his own medicine. Now, Ross may not have spoke with Sparano but I'm sure Ireland has. So don't act like he is sitting in his office twiddling his thumbs. Also, there are reports that Ireland wanted Sparano all the time. That coupled with Harbaugh saying he didn't like the Miami "situation" may make those reports true.

Who is this Sources guy, and why do you believe everything he tells you - even when it makes no sense, even when he's wrong more often than not?

Mr Armando why are you so angry lately?..this is not personal it is just a job,do it without trying to inflame us.Believe or not whe can think, don`t disrepect us

Aloco, I mean, ALOCO:

WITH ALL RESPECT, YOU ARE MIXING YOUR FACTS. I APPLAUD WHATSHISNAME GOING OUT AND TRYING TO IMPROVE HIS COACHING STAFF BY TRYING TO FIND A BETTER HEAD COACH. THAT IS A GOOD THING!

BUT THE WAY HE DID IT WAS LOWBROW AND NO CLASS. YOU DON'T RUN AROUND BEHIND PEOPLE'S BACK. YOU TELL THEM STRAIGHT UP.

MANY HERE HAVE SAID IT IS OK WHAT WHATSHISFACE DID BECAUSE SPARANO TRIES TO FIND BETTER PLAYERS ALL THE TIME. HERE'S THE DIFFERENCE:

HE TELLS HIS PLAYERS ALL THE TIME THEY WILL BE REPLACED IF HE CAN FIND SOMEONE BETTER. HIS DOOR IS OPEN IF A PLAYER WANTS TO KNOW HOW HE'S PERFORMING AND THOSE MEETINGS ARE OFTEN UNCOMFORTABLE BECAUSE SPARANO TELLS GUYS THAT SUCK THAT THEY ARE SUCKING.

THE PLAYERS KNOW THE TEAM IS CONSTANTLY LOOKING TO WHACK THEM. ROSS TOLD SPARANO HE WANTED TO KEEP HIM. AND THEN HE WENT CHASING HARBAUGH.

AGAIN, NO ISSUES WITH THE CHASE. BIG ISSUES WITH THE WAY HE CHASED.

ALSO, I ASSUME YOU THINK IT WAS GREAT THAT ROSS WANTED TO FORCE HIS OWN STRUCTURE ON COWHER, RIGHT? IF YOU CAN DEFEND THAT, YOU MUST BE COLLECTING A CHECK FROM WHATSHISFACE.

We may one day get another SB title in Miami, but I highly doubt it will be as the Miami Dolphins. Oh btw, get a real good look at the up and coming LA Dolphins before they leave town. Which I predict will be within the next 3 seasons.

Dying, ESPN reported the undisclosed business was to meet with Harbaugh's agent, David Dunn, who is located in Palm Springs or thereabouts.

Say no to VY. You can get away with a diva WR, barely. But not a QB, the supposed leader of the offense.

If Sparano is offended by the classless nature of the HC search, tell him to man up & quit.

If not, everyone who feels a shred of empathy for him should do what he is doing. SHUT UP & SUCK IT UP.

Armando I'm not sure what your love affair is with Sparano but if Sparano has any pride or wants to retain any credibility he will resign at the meeting. He would not be still here but for the looming lockout situation which appears to be getting worse as time goes on.
What I find amazing is all these reports the media are keeping Sparano but has anyone heard it from Mr Ross (He's the owner by the way Armando) himself, they were in midair on a plane on the way back to South Florida when the reports came out.

If Sparano does somehow stay all he will achieve is to somehow win enough games to keep us from getting QB Andrew Luck next year before he is fired, there's no way he turns this team round, he is too conservative minded.

Armando, it is your blog, but if your gonna use caps, please keep it to a max of one paragraph, or 4 sentences please.

thanks

Can Homie the Clown be the teams new mascot? what a f'in circus

I blame Ross for all this.He should have cleaned house after he paid for the second part of the team. He should have released Parcells from his contract and let him walk. After the N.E. game he should have let Sparano and Ireland go.This man is a billionair he has to be smarter than this. Anyone who had anything to do with the Patty white pick should have been fired in the first place. I like Parcells and give him the credit for the 11-5 season but his hatchlings just didn't cut it.Ross should have just said thank you to Parcells and good bye at the start of the season when Parcells walked.Ross is the owner he has the right to his own people, Parcells knows this thats why he worked his contract the way he did.But that doesn't mean Ross had to keep Parcells around.Clean house NOW, make the DC the interm coach.
