Dolphins' ridiculous order of business continues

If you listen to my radio show or follow me on twitter, you know what's coming next: Cue the circus music. Send in the clowns.

Are you ready for this?

You probably know by know several reports, including this one in The Miami Herald, are saying the Dolphins have decided to retain Tony Sparano as Miami's head coach. Awesome! I've been advocating that all along quite forcefully, I believe.

But I have no issues that owner whatshisface has sampled the market to see if he could find an upgrade at coach. Nothing wrong with that. I have, however, a distaste for the manner that was done. And today that distaste grows.

The fact is that while sources within the team and close to owner whatshisface have leaked to various media the fact Sparano was to be retained, I know that no one told Sparano this.

Think about that ...

So the sources are telling the media. But they are not telling the principle person involved most affected by the news.

Stunning. Embarrassing. More embarrassing, actually. Head-scratching.

I do know there is a meeting planned for today between ownership and Sparano. I don't know when or where, but I assume the purpose is to break the news to Sparano that was broken first to the media.

One can assume Sparano will come out of this meeting the head coach of the Dolphins. But I cannot guarantee that. Who knows what other things owner whatshisface has up his sleeve and might want to spring on his coach.

And who knows if Sparano, hung out to dry the last four days while the Dolphins chased other coaches across the country, might not agree to be retained.

Strange? Thy name is the Miami Dolphins in January 2011.

2011 prediction 14-2 and a superbowl appearance! Worst to First!

Have a little faith. Ross is back on a plane to try to get Luck to enter the draft cross your fingers!

My 2011 Prediciton, if there is a season:

Stone Age football, 4-12, Sprano fired after starting 1-5.

Entrepreneurs like Ross are a lot smarter than they appear. So he didn't hit on his HC prospects....neither has anyone else.....and we still have, in my opinion, a qualified HC and GM.

I’m envious of you. I live all the way in Jersey and I have only seen the Dolphins at EVIL New Meadowlands Stadium (it was great to yell at JT). Too many squish the fish idiots lol. But this reminds me of another point… if you live out of state try and make a Miami game this year if possible. The more fans the better. Let’s fill the stadium up with Aqua and Orange!

Mags, my only love affair is with my wife. Here's what I think of coach Sparano.

I think he's too conservative. I think he has relied too much on Jeff Ireland. I think he is too loyal to his friends, particularly David Lee and John Bonamego.

And I think there are better coaches out there.

But I also know that Sparano can take a team into the playoffs given the proper amount of talent. The Dolphins don't have that proper amount, especially not at QB. It is not Sparano's fault that his QB threw 19 interceptions this year and NE's QB threw 4.

Armando, you've got an angry bunch here. Good luck putting out the fire....LOL.

Montreal, Marc Trestman....apologies. Thoughts on him for OC?

Mark in Toronto, I know you said you think there will only be one quarterback taken before us but don't you think SF takes a QB for sure? I don't think the Panthers draft a QB now and I don't think the Bills take one either, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Cinci take one also. Palmer may not be done yet but I think they need to start grooming someone else for the future. I also think without a shadow of a doubt that the Cards take one as well. So my guess is that QBs get picked before we pick, probably leaving us with someone like Locker at 15. I don't like the prospsects of that.

DB had a good post on the last blog. Who knows what was said between Sparano and Ross? Armando, unless your source was physically in the room during that conversation who's to say Ross didn't tell Sparano what he was doing with Harbaugh? Maybe he was, I don't know.

I still think Ross will be the owner who moves this team to LA. You media guys need to keep close eye on him.

that should have said THREE QBs before we pick.

Mags1972, would you resign and leave 3 million dollars on the table with a family and no job??? I highly doubt it, Sparano won't do it either.

sparano had no problem cutting erik walden for a special teams mistake. he's now with green bay;last week he was name nfc player of the week for his 11 tackles and 2 sacks while clinching a playoff birth in the win. way to go sparano. jason allen had 6 INT's while al harris was put on ir to be released later.

I am not part of the positive always party on these blogs EVER.

However, IF Sparano does return, which I assume he will now. It is not like this ship is sunk.

there is a lot of time before preseason. a draft with out Fat-Cells, maybe Ireland will still be gone, if not he drafts his first without Fat-Cells over his shoulder.

Ross has money, maybe he is embarreased by this and he opens the check bokk for what ever we need.

It sure as hell ain't rosie here, but it is not already dead for 2011. a new O-coord is coming. And we still have a good D-coord.

Jeff Ireland over Cowher.

Who The Eff is Jeff Ireland? Prepubescent Ball Boy Peter Principle in over his head.

And Ross keys his franchise on this dweeb?

You were the one fooled. Any owner has the right to talk to and consider all options at any time, even though Ross was told, and probably convinced by his paid staff that TONY is NOT THE PROBLEM here. I think Tony's too tough for you, doesn't give you the respect you think you deserve.

Armando, you're really just a child in this business, and like a spoiled brat, you're upset that things didn't go as you expected. Immediate gratification for the end of the season losses... boo hoo to you! Yes it's tough for Dolphin's fans, we all would like to win. But he deserves respect.

I curious of how the Herald's greatest sports writer thinks of you. Ed Pope, was a master, had never, ever, ever fallen so much in love of himself as you have. I so enjoyed him, looked forward to reading his comments. I cringe when I read yours...

We should be celebrating and very much getting behind Tony and the boys... they just may prove themselves some day... As for you, I hope you can take this personal embarrassment as a lesson, and learn from it. You are NOT the NEWS just a reporter of the NEWS. And if you could gain some football sense, or could grow just a little as a person, that would be good for all of us!

Poizen, it's your blog, bud! I just work here.

I was using caps because it is the style ALOCO is comfortable with. Also I was trying to be funny and it failed.

You also don't know if sparano was told that this was the plan that was in place and to sit tight. fact is you don't know a damn thing and never really do and you are the miami heralds adam schefter....always speculating, never right.

Ssshhhh, listen... You hear that?

Yes you would be correct, those are indeed the snickers and giggles from the rest of the world as the Miami Dolphins quickly become the joke if the NFL.

Retaining a coach who clearly has lost the team, a very dangerous and completely asinine proposition indeed. What a middle finger to the fans that was by Ross. Integrity? What's that? Why would anyone want to fork over hard earned money to buy tickets from Mr. Ross? I have loved our Dolphins for many years, these kooks are making it very difficult to find any reason whatsoever to keep hanging in there. There comes a point in time when enough is enough already and that time has arrived.

Armando, he has UNENDING loyalty to his friends considering Henning over stayed his welcome by 2 years. That's why we are in this mess to begin with. Sparano & Henning is the reason the offense stunk. Sparano didn't have the foresight to see Henning was a dud.

BTW, Eli Manning threw 25 int's and his team still won 10 games & barring a defensive collapse would be in the playoffs.

You can talk about Henne all you want, but the fact is, the reason this team isn't a winner is because Sparano & Ireland have failed to put a decent product on the field in ALL three areas of the game.

The excuses in defending Sparano have become LAUGHABLE.

Chris, do you know how many people were in the room? I do. No, not saying. But I know what I know.

Armando, you are WRONG about the QB. It is coachings fault he threw so many INT.s. That insane progression of 5 poepl that he MUST GO THROUGH! or else (Said from the mouth of Brandon Marshall) with a line that barely was consistant and at times did not even give him time to blink was a recipe for disaster.

Armando... if Sparano is too loyal w/his friends (D Lee) who in turn is teaching and coaching the same QB that threw 19 picks... so i do think he is responsible for the QB play this yr thru Lee and as being the Head Coach. they took this kid (Henne) backwards this yr as far as molding a NFL QB

WHAT IF... Owner whatshisface went to meet with Harbaugh about being the offensive coordinator with the incentive of being named the head coach once Sparanos contract ran out? Bottom line "what if" doesn't mean Sh*t. Sparano is a big boy and if anything this little fiasco will fire him up even more. I dont know about you but someone doesnt think I am capable of doing something and I am all too eagar to shove it up their a**.

LOL, I was just messin with ya Mando, I was trying to be funny, and I failed even more. :)

If "whatshisname" doesnt give Sparano at least an one or two year extension we're staring 1-15 down the barrel all over again. The team is highly likely to quit on a lameduck hc.

"I was using caps because it is the style ALOCO is comfortable with"

Woulda worked ...but you spelled to many words right.

I agree Zeb @ 11am. Even though I think Jeff and Tony are good people. Karma is a b--itch. I'm not sold on that they are Dolphin fans. Just a job to them. Gruden would have been the best fit. Henning must go!!! Oh, he's already gone. c-ya thanks for ruining the year. In comes Mariucci for the right price of course.

Joe, I said he's too loyal. I think we agree on that.

Fair enough Armando. My next question is, why is someone sitting in on a "private" conversation leaking information? It's good for us information starved fans but don't see how it benefits the organization.

How can you defend a coach who has a sideline where the offensive players don't talk to each other? Coaches or players. Marshall admitted no one is on the same page? Sparano didn't see or know this? Either he's dumb or blind. For that alone he should be fired.

The fact that Henne was always talking to David Lee & not his OC about what was going on on the field is atrocious.

What is your intense and venemous hatred for Mr. Ross? What, he didnt let you come along for the ride on his plane? He doesn't call you to explain to the the Great Armando what his next move is? This post is almost as stupid as your earlier one. Get a grip, take a chill pill, whatever it takes, just relax. Mr. Ross is light years more successful than most, if not all of us on here -- including you. So if he decides to do business in the matter that he does, well, it's his business. And for all you know, he called Sparano and has already clued him in on whatever. Again oh Great Armando, STOP ASSUMING and judging. You look like a fool.

I'm just wondering how much clout and dialogue Parcells still has with Sparano. He may advise Sparano to resgin from the situation he is in right now. He apparently advised Ross to stick with Sparano and Ross chose to ignore Parcells and listen to Peterson. My guess is Parcells won't like this and may tell him to leave the money on the table and go somewhere else. Just speaking out loud guys.

Is there a Heat game soon? This Fins & Canes stuff is just embarrassing!!

I don't cry for millionaires or billionaires...there big boys...they can handle it. Sparano is lucky he has a job with the myriad of coaching screw ups, personnel screw ups and back to back losing seasons.

I'd trade places with him any day....let's get real Armando.

Kyle, they did not develop Henne. I agree on that. But some guys just have it and others do not.

I do not see IT in Henne. IMO.

Also, are you going to blame the coaches when Kevin Curtis is running wide open by five yards and Henne overthrows him by five yards? Coaches to blame for that throw?

You blame the coach when just before halftime of the Baltimore game, Fasano is wide open in the end zone and Henne throws it four feet over his head?

You blame coaches when in the season opener Brandon Marshall is open down the field by 10 yards and Henne underthrows to the point Marhsall stops to wait for the ball?

C'mon, man!

Henne's biggest problem is confidence. He played scared to dissapoint or piss off his coaches. I wish he did not care so much about that and played loose.

Agreed on the Sparano extension DyingBreed.

I'm trying to think outside the box here. Before all of this crazyness began Vontae Davis Tweeted Sparano aint going nowhere we are going to build a dynsasty. With that being said there is always more to the story than what we know. Maybe Harbaugh wasnt being offered the HC maybe it was the OC with Sparano as the HC? We will never know I suppose. But this seems to be what the FO was going to do all along. I just wonder who the next OC will be.

Well this tells me that none of us know what the he** is going on right?

My question is what a bunch of little snitches all these football people are. If it wasn't for people in the camps rat-ing this cr@p to the media there would be no circus.

I have been a diehard dolphins fan since age 13 starting in 1970. This is the worst time I have seen management in handling the team and I think it will destroy next year if major changes are not made. The team will not respect or follow Sporano going forward. The major mistake is taking Ireland to interview coach candidates. He is part of the problem not the solution. Cowher or Gruden should be the choice and have complete control over football operations and given 3-5 years to rebuild this team...

i say when the dolphins call the media to come to the big press conference; THE MEDIA SHOULD STAY AWAY. DONT GIVE THEM A PULPIT FROM WHICH TO LIE TO US. give them the same treatment they give you,the cold shoulder. the conference will be all spin, insulting every fans intelligence.

Well said, Armando. Well said.

@ SoiledBottom: Now that is funny!

"I was using caps because it is the style ALOCO is comfortable with"

Woulda worked ...but you spelled to many words right.

I hope Ross does move this crappy team to LA, just leave the name here like they did in Cleveland. Then we can either start fresh with an owner who is not a moron, or bring down the Jags or Vikes and re-name them the Fins!! Then we can excorcise the demons!!

Mando, You gave me 4 plays in a season. I can give you 4 over throws by Peyton Manning in one game that I saw this year where the receiver is wide open.

I can see the frustration from a lot of people, but hear me out here.

Marshall said it about the coaching staff and the ridiculous rules and control they had on Henne.

Not 1, and I mean not 1 NFL QB has been successful with that much pressure/regimented instructions were put on them. I have NEVER seen it before like it was for the Dolphins.

If they had a great O-line that gave the guy decent time, and a running game that half way worked and Henne polayed like this, I will be in with ya man.

But henne was freaking puppet that refused to make any other decision than waht Lee told him to do.

QB is not the type of posiition that a player can be succesful doing that.

I am still trying to come to terms why in the world they would retain Jeff Ireland instead of giving Bill Cowher whatever he wanted!!! Anybody else troubled with this thinking??

newengland, I've heard this stuff before, bro. "You're writing bad things about someone because they don't give you interviews."

It is not personal with me. I write good when people do good. I write bad when people do bad.

If you don't see Ross made half a dozen mistakes lately, that's on you. I'm not fooled. Moreoever, football people around the league aren't fooled.

That last part is what worries me for the Dolphins. And it should worry you.

Bobbyd12 would you put up with the public humiliation Sparano has faced this week although he has embarassed this franchise all season with the product he has put on the pitch.
Would you take on the coaching job knowing that you have to make the playoffs next year at the very least to survive with a half empty stadium, a backstabbing GM, players who are uncomfortable with your micromanagement style.
He has very little chance of succeeding so yes, if it were me, he's hardly on the poverty line I would resign, he would be well justified to do so and be able to land a job elsewhere with no problem, Dallas as OC maybe just for starters.

In a nut shell

Marino = Rommel/Patton rolled into one

Henne = The guy you wanna frag

Aloco, I respect your opinion. We just don't agree on this one.

looser central,

boycott season tickets merchandise
ect. that is how you control what happens

stop supporting them $$$$$$ changes will be made

Offensive Coordinator watch is now underway. You aren't getting a big name now (thanks Uncle Stevie). We'll need to look for retreads and up and comers. A solid approach would be to get Penny to retire and coach the QBs. All of this has to be pulled off while making things nice with Tony Sparano. Good luck with that.

Potential Candidates:

- Brian Ferentz (Pats Off. Assistant) - Poach a young coach off of Belicheck's staff
- Jim Zorn (Ravens QB coach) - QB guy who could potentially help that situation
- Ken Zampese (Bengals QB coach) - Ernie's kid might know something about running a balanced offense
- Ron Turner (Colts WR coach) - Has been a coordinator in the past. Kyle Orton's 1st OC in Chicago
- Mike Shula (Jags QB coach) - Could appease the fan base somewhat to have a Shula back in the fold
- Paul Hackett (Raiders QB coach) - OC in KC when Chiefs had a high-flying offense
- Mike Tice (Bears O-Line coach) Played QB in college. Head Coach experience.
- Terry Robiskie (Falcons WR coach) - A hot name at times could bring some of the Falcons swagger south
- Joe Lombardi ( Saints QB coach) - If you can't have Drew Brees, try his QB coach. Vince's grandson, BTW

It should get very interesting in S. Florida. Maybe that is what Uncle Stevie's plan was all along...

I'm pretty thankful for the Heat right about now.

Craig, I never said there would only be 1 qb icked in the top 10 - I said, the SS' 2011 Mock Draft done after Luck's announcement printed only 1 qb taken in the top 10. personally, I don't know how SF and Ari can explain to their fan bases how they passed over a 1st round grade QB - I agree at least 2 will be taken if they grade out.

Cincy, Buff, and Carolina can justify going another year with their incumbents for one reason or another but not those other 2 teams mentioned above.

I hate Locker too - I'd rather draft a punter than him.

PEACE...............hope you enjoy you lunch .

Poizen I'm sorry but Henne is inaccurate with all his throws. And slow to recognize plays. He's a back up at best.

Keep repeating to yourself "Serendity Now" so you can get through this. Having been a Dolphin fan for close to 40 years I do not see any of this as much as big deal as some of you...particularly those in the press...None of this is going to matter unless Henne plays a whole better next year than this or he is replaced.
