Dolphins work out Arizona's Ricky Elmore

While the pundits and so-called experts are trusting the Dolphins will use most, if not all, their draft picks on offense, I've been telling you the team desperately wants to improve special teams and its pass-rush.

There was some proof of that Monday when the club worked out Arizona OLB Ricky Elmore.

Linebackers coach Bill Sheridan flew out to be with Elmore for the private meeting. The two watched film together and went through the usual position drills.

Elmore led the PAC-10 in sacks for the second consecutive year in 2010. He did this while improving his 2009 total of 10.5 sacks to 11 sacks in 2010. That, by the way, is no easy task because once a player leads the conference in sacks, other teams take note and typically do what they must to contain that player.

Elmore, 6-4 and 260 pounds, nonethless finished ranked ninth in the nation in sacks.

So why the interest?

Elmore isn't a first-day pick. He more likely will go anywhere from the late third round to fifth round. He's a no-frills, high-motor guy that knows the game and want to learn more.

He's not a track star. He ran a 4.91 in the 40 at the Indianapolis Combine but I'm told that was because he was sick. (He ran anyway so you have to admire that). At his Pro Day on Saturday he improved all his measurables to 4.79 in the 40 with a 34.5 vertical.

Do the Dolphins have room for a guy like Elmore on the roster?

When one considers that Quentin Moses has had four years to develop, last year got several significant opportunities to play, and still produced only one sack, the answer would have to be yes.

When you consider the team was eager enough to improve its pass-rush that it put in a waiver claim for Shawne Merriman, the answer would have to be yes.

And don't even get me started on the need to bring in some fresh blood on special teams to immediately upgrade a unit that gave up a total of three punt and kickoff return TDs last year. The answer, again, is yes.

Maybe Elmore can fill all of those needs.

Follow me on twitter. It'll solve all your problems.

The immediate answer is JASON TAYLOR! I would still bring in the Elmore kid to train. I also hope that Sparano brings in Tyrod Taylor to tryout with the other quarterbacks.

Get some big, mean, and nasty O-linemen please!!!

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see us pick a pass rusher, even at no 15. Have you checked out Justin Houston videos, the guy is a real playmaker.

i AM BACK FROM WORK AFTER I PUT MY SHARE IN DYINGBREED AND CO RETIREMENT CHECKS

DOLPHIANDAVE,

I NEVER HEARD OF JUSTIN HOUSTON, HOW YOU KNOW HE'S A PLAY MAKER FROM WATCHING 5 MINUTES ON YOUTUBE ?

ODINSEYE,

I HEARD EARLY YOU R GOING TO GET MARRIED AGAIN,IS IT TRUE ?

WHERE'S DLPHIN77 GREAT POST GONE.. I AM PROTESTING THE RIGHT OF HIS FREEDOM OF SPEECH .

I have read and followed these things and it's more than watching 5 minutes of Youtube, it's more like watching college football avidly year after year. I asked if you have seen him as it displays his highlights there just as it does for all worthy college players. This cuts it short for you. Please do a google search, he is widely regarded a 1st round pick though in the back half of the first round. I think personally that he could go higher. No offense but if you haven't heard of him you should study more if you are into the draft.

DOLFANDAVE,

THE GOOD THING ABOUT MY POST TO YOU ,THAT YOU GOT TO ANSWER ME THIS WAY AND I LEARN A LOT FROM YOU AND I AM GOINMG TO GOOLE THE HELL OUT OF HIM ,THANKS .

ALoco,

NEVER been married. NEVER will be.

You've been reading my posts here for a long time. You can learn a little about someone from reading his posts and you probably know more about me than most here.

Let me ask you an honest question. From what you can tell about me from years of posting back and forth, can you imagine me finding a woman that would actually want to marry me?

I never find women that want me to meet theirs Moms and Dads.

However, when they simply want a meaningless, retarded-ly raunchy weekend, they know where to find me!

Valhalla!!!!

ODINSEYE,

WHY YOU PUT YOURSELF DOWN ALL THE TIME ? A LOT OF POOR GOOD LOOKING GIRLS WOULD LOVE TO MARRY YOU .

Many people here are forming their opinions on these athletes based on You Tube replays. Nothing further from the Truth. The only true indicator on the ability of a College player is given in the practices for the Senior Bowl (NOT in the game). Private workouts help somewhat. Juniors?, it's anybody's guess.

No problem man. I love draft talk. I have been an AVID Dolphins fan since 1974. I have seen your posts many times too. When Ken Stabler threw that pass to Clarence Davis in the 1974 playoffs to end our dynasty, that sealed my "fate" as a Dolphins fan forever. I may have cursed us as we have never won another super bowl:). I even remember the date w/o looking, Dec 21, 1974. Many years later I brought my wife to a Dolphins game vs KC in 1994, the first day after we married in 1994. Yeah, I am serious. I look forward to future conversations about the Dolphins.

BTW if Elmore is better than his teammate Reed who starred in the Senior Bowl then that is impressive.

DO YOU KIDS DOLPHANDAVE ? SINCE 1994 ,THAT'S 16 YEARS SINCE YOU GOT MARRIED

OSCar,

what makes you the GO TO GUY WHEN IT COMES TO YOUTUBE ?

DO YOU HAVE KIDS

I AM GETTING MARRIED NEXT YEAR,THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS THE EXPENSSES FOR THE WEDDING I TOLD MY FATHER IN LAW THAT I AM NOT A FAN OF BIG WEDDING BUT HE DOES ,SO HE SHOULD GET THE BILL IN THE END SINCE HE HAS ONLY ONE GIRL IN THE FAMILY .

Yes, I have 3, two girls in 4th grade and a boy who turns 4 on Tuesday. These are the times of our lives we are living right now. I am not the Go To Guy for YouTube. I just find it convenient to see the players that way, that's all.

Insane,

On the last blog, you accused me of missing the point. You then went on to prove that you haven't a clue.

You keep harping about the owners opening their books as if that's the Rosetta's stone to some big mystery. It's bullsheet, pure and simple.

I'm not taking one side over the other in this. I'm taking the fans side. The owners AND the players are sticking it up our WAH-ZOOs without lube!

Having said that, I'll say this, your premise about the "BOOKS" is severely misguided and borders on some kind of facist, communistic, self inflated CRAP!

To reduce it to simpler terms for you, IT"S NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS! They don't have to justify jack sheet!

If anybody, owners and players alike, are going to justify anything, let them justify things for us fans. Let them try to justify why it costs me $500 dollars to take my kids to a ballgame! Why don't they justify why at Christmas I have to spend $180 for a jersey and a cap for ONE KID!

You said the players wanted to keep playing? Yeah, RIGHT! ROOKIES are getting $50,000,000 dollar deals and it keeps spiraling up every year. BUT! That's just not enough. Free Agents are getting 10 million dollar deals on up to 50 million plus. That fat lob in Washington got 100 million dollar deal, BUT! Guess what? That's just not enough either.

The league MINIMUM is around 330,000 dollars and with incentives and signing bonuses, it's more REALISTICALLY like half a million a year. That's the MINIMUM! BUT! Guess what? Again, that's just not enough!

BULLSHEET!

I'm not taking the owners side or the players side. I'm taking MY SIDE, the average everyday day FAN! Open the books my A S S!

Justify why I have to pay 10 dollars for a stale warm BEER when I go to an NFL stadium!!!!

The money spent on the wedding is something that should be carefully planned. We had a lot of family help but of course that is a two edged sword. The one thing that drives young couples apart is financial trouble so I hope you plan extremely well. This avoids future friction. Luckily these days I am doing very well in my work. I am a database programmer w/ EXPERIENCE so I have plenty of work. We are truly blessed.

Am I in You Tube, ALoco? That's what I understood from you sintaxis.

I AM PLANNING NO THING DOLPHANDAVE, THEY GET ME AND I GET MY GIRL ,I HAVE 10 PEOPLE WOULD COME TO THE WEDDING BUT 150 FROM THEIR SIDE ,NO WAY I AM GOING TO PAY ALMOST 60,OOO TO FEED THESE PEOPLE,HER DAD IS RICH AND I TOLD HIM I RATHER DIE AND NOT SPEND A DIME ON THE WEEDING AND HE AGREED .AFTER ALL ALL THE MONEY I HAVE CAN PAY FOR 50 PERCENT DOWN PAYMENT FOR A NEW HOUSE .

I've no trouble at all with Miami being interested in Ricky Elmore. His numbers are solid as Armando pointed out and likely will be around in the 4th or 5th rounds. Even with all the Offensive needs, Miami needs to look into a defensive/Special teams players or two.
Getting Edds back will be a good thing. I look forward to seeing Edds play. I watched most of his Junior and Senior years. Its with good reason Edds was drafted when he was, the guy can play. And, from the film I watched, he can drop into coverage on tailback's or Slot Receivers. He does so with fluidity and decent speed. Odrick & Edds ranked very strong on several teams draft boards. Losing them (along with the speed of Cory Sheets) really hurt us last year.We are still shallow at the OLB position. a guy like Ricky Elmore could give some depth and another weapon should we loose a player or two like last year.

All these Conspirators have beeen quiet for the last 2 days, probably Conspiring some more. Hey, we don't give 3 Fu-ks about how much money you are going to make, we ordinary People just want entertainment. And maybe we have to remind you(shame on you, you should know), keep the People happy.

How do you like the sintaxis on my comment at 10:32 PM, ALoco? Good, eh?

Good luck to Jeff Ireland looking for a trade down partner for a 2nd rd pick. There arent any impact middle of the pack players worthy to give up your 2nd rd pick for.

However, they maybe able to trade back and pick up an extra 3rd rd'er for the #15 pick. Hope anyone isnt surprised if we're pigeon-holed into using the #15 pick. Especially seeing how there wont be a cba reached before the draft and we cant use any player trades to gain a 2nd rd pick.

Ireland's blowing smoke up his own a*ss if he thinks he'll trade back and pick up a 2nd rd pick.

dolfandave... part of your post at 10:02

"When Ken Stabler threw that pass to Clarence Davis in the 1974 playoffs to end our dynasty, that sealed my "fate" as a Dolphins fan forever."
-----------------------------------------------

Brought back a really tough memory. The worst part of that whole catch is... it wasn't a catch! Had replay existed in that game... Miami very likely would have gone on to secure its 3rd SB win in a row and 4th trip there in a row. We would likely have not lost Czonka, Kiick and Warfield to the World Football League.

That pass, dolphandave... was when a dynasty ended because of a shytty ref call.... Had we done better in 1982 or 1984 it would have erased some of that pain... didn't happen. But... we'll get back.... Gotta happen sooner or later.....

OSCAR,

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF THAT WORD,PLAESE ENLITE ME ..

Ireland will trade back, pick up an extra 3rd rd pick, and Leonard Hankerson will be our #1 pick of 2011. He'll probably go after Kendall Hunter with one of the 3rd rd picks.

DB,

CAN WE TALK ABOUT YOU FOR A CHANGE ? DO YOU HAVE KIDS ,DO THEY WORK ? WHAT DO THEY DO ?

Right, DB, but perhaps he can trade the 2nd round pick from next year's Draft + a 4th from this one for a late 1st in this Draft. The possibilities are infinite.

"Sintaxis?" That's either a city in Greece or a cab you're allowed to have sex in.

(it's syntax)

Derek4Dolphins,

What do you mean that wasnt a catch by Clarence Davis? It certainly was, by way of him ripping a for sure interception right from the hands of Nick Buoniconti.

Now you may have something, if it were during the time of "in the grasp" qb ruling. For Stabler was certainly "in the grasp" of a Dolphin defender throwing that pass while going down.

But still, Clarence Davis ripped the ball from the arms of Nick Bouniconti. I'm not sure what you remember.

I HOPE MR IRELAND IS WORKING HARD IN A SMART WAY TO MAKE FINS STRONG ,FAST TEAM NEXT YEAR I HOPE HE WILL LOSE FEW POUNDS TO PROVE HE'S WORKING HARD NOT SITTING IN HIS OFFICE EATING ALL THE TIME .

Well, Derek4Dolphins,, that's the way the ball bounces.

OSCAR I THE NEW GUY WHO WAS PORNED TO BE FUNNY .

BORNED

DB...

Because of the inability to include players during any draft day moves, I find it very hard to believe Miami will be able to trade down for a 2nd round pick. When they traded down last year Tim Dobbins was a large part of that deal. San Diego held the 26th pick so moving up to get the running back they wanted at #12 was worth the 2nd, 26th and Dobbins. Unless Miami can find a team around the 19th to 24th pick... a straight up trade.. 15th for their 1st pick and their 2nd rounder is a whacked deal. If Miami only falls to say #20 or #21 and still gets the 2nd rounder... that is okay... but falling to say the 25th or lower would cost more then a second, I suppose another lower round pick would work or if the 2nd round pick was high enough in the order... but damn... Now your asking a team to trade 2 picks to move up 6 or 7 positions.!!!! Tough sell IMAO... I'm not certain they can do it....

DEREK,

WE CAN TRICK THEM BY PUTTING SOME THING YELLOW IN THEIR DRINK AND WE GET OUR 2ND PICK ROUND PICK .

Oscar Canosa,

Thinkn about it. Why would anyone really want to trade away thier 2011 2nd rd'er for our 2012?

There're only 2 teams that have 2 2nd rd picks this year. New England and San Diego. I dont see either giving up one of thier 2nds to swap places with us when there isnt a player either could live without available.

The other 29 teams wouldnt want to give up thier 2nd rd pick just to inherit the exact same situation we're now in. Best case scenario is it "slightly" possible someone may be willing to offer thier 3rd pick to swap 1st rd places with us.

That's still pretty slim. We were very fortunate last season the Chargers were looking for a top calibre rb and the Cowboys were looking to get Dez Bryant. #15 looks like no man's land and pretty cursed right now.

Remember, People, I came from Cuba at 14 years of age, and all my Education was in Spanish. It is still difficult for me (you know, anything you learn in the young years is hard to modify, like Racism) to translate(yes I translate) some words from Spanish to English. Xenophobia ALWAYS stems from Fear. Any arguments?

DB ,

WHAT'S YOUR BOTTOM LINE ABOUT THIS DRAFT TO SAVE INK ?

I WOULD SAY ALL INK CO'S ARE OUT OF BUSINESS .

Yes, I looked it up. In English Language it is Syntax. You were "right" ALoco. Any arguments with my Post at 11:10 PM? Keep on consuming your yayo(even if we know your true colors). Yes?

Derek4Dolphins,

First of all a player worthy of giving up thier 2nd rd pick to get must be there. In this draft there isnt, not at #15 anyway. No question about it.

I think we'll trade back for an extra 3rd rd pick. It's very slim but some team may see value in it.

Actually 2 3rd rd'ers isnt horrible because some very serviceble rb's and wr's are still available in the 3rd rd. Kendall Hunter, Jordan Todman, Jernigan,...etc...etc... So 2 3rd rd picks isnt exactly horrible if used wisely.

At the back half of the 1st rd we might be able to land Leonard Hankerson. Or who knows if Ingram slips to late 1st rd. But at the back of the 1st rd there are flexible options available even if we can only get a 3rd rd pick for moving back.

Just saying, DB. You probably right. Anything that can help.

DB...

You are right... I did have my fact confused. However, a quick rerun on the Dolphins game library brought back my replay argument... 1974 divisional playoff in the Colosseum...
In the fourth, Miami had widened their lead with another field goal but the Raiders weren't done. Starting at his own 17 Stabler hit Biletnikoff for 11, then threw deep to Branch who made a spectacular diving catch on the Miami 27, and untouched got back up and scored.... Upon review of this play... it was determined that Branch HAD been touched... but it was missed by the Ref. Kurt Gowdy (who called the game) made the reference "Branch got away with that one"...

Thing is... Miami came back and scored a go ahead TD on a Malones run... But they did not use enough clock and left Kenny Stabler enough time to go 80 yards for the score.

It was a great Game.... Oakland won and that is that... But Branch was down... and in today's game... that would have been the call. No hard feelings... just a tough loss against a team that was just as tough and just as hard to beat in those days as Miami.

We need new memories... Huh?

ALoco,

My bottom line is if we stay at #15 we're pigeon-holed into Mark Ingram. Anything other player we would be overdrafting at #15.

So it's either Ingram at #15 or trade back even if it only profits an extra 3rd'er. There are still good players in the 3rd and having 2 picks there isnt horrible.

Plus it really opens up our 1st rd options because we dont have to overdraft anyone near the back of the pack.

DB...

I believe the 3rd round is a great place to find solid talent. I agree with you completely. I also feel getting a team to part with 3rd round pick to move up would be a far easier prospect.

Ya never know... Ireland may kick around some deal with some one... If there were better prospect to help our team early in the draft, it would not surprise me one bit to see Ireland dip into next years selections. This draft just does not play to Miami's needs early on... Its far to Defensive where the top talent is concerned.

Derek and/or DB,

I remember the Clarence Davis play.

Seems like I remember another one by Stabler too. Not sure if it was against the Phins though.

Didn't Stabler fumble forward once and the ball got kicked into the end zone to be recovered for a TD.

Maybe I'm thinking of the same play? Maybe fumbling forward was a desperation strategy for Madden?

I'm a little hazy, it's been a long day. My six year old had minor surgery today for an umbilical hernia.

Anyway, do any of you guys remember the forward fumble? I think it induced a rule change maybe?

DB,

I WOULD SAY ,YOU KNOW MORE ABOUT DRAFTING PLAYERS THAN MR IRELAND DUE TO YOUR AGE AND FOLLOWING FOOTBALL FOR MANY YEARS ,AS FOR IRELAND ,AS MOST MANGERS THEY WERE IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT ATHE RIGHT TIME TO BE NAMED GM ,NO THING MOR .

P.S..HOW MANY GM'S STILL IN THE NFL IN THE LAST 10 YEARS ? MOSTLY ALL OF THEM ARE WORKING IN THE CIRCUS .

ODINESYE,

WHY MY CAR IS CONSUMING MORE GAS THESE DAYS ? HELP

Derek4Dolphins,

If it came down to dipping into next year's draft picks. I like the prospect of gaining an extra 3rd rd'er by moving back. At some point we need to have "ALL" of our draft picks and not play let's make a deal each new draft year to regain what we lost.

In finances this is called robbing Peter to pay Paul. In the end it doesnt workout very well trying to handle your finances this way niether.

DB IS A WELL OF INFORMATION .

How about this, ALoco(and any others). It is obvious that those who are controlling the Climate and who are wreaking havoc in the World, no longer care that their are deeds are known. Lots of dead fish from a powerful neurotoxin which is not found in adequate amounts in the Sea. Explosions in Nuclear Reactors in Japan which have nothing to do with the Tsunami. Can mean one of two things, either they are supremely confident that nobody can do anything about it anymore, or, they are desperate and on their last breath. Do not comment, we don't interfere with you, don't fuc-ing interfere with us. Right?

OSCAR MEAN WHILE IS A FALFAL POSTER .

odinseye,

Off the top I dont remember such a play. However, I do know for certain Stabler didnt have a play like that against the Dolphins.

DB,

Another possible scenario for us trading back and recouping a 2nd would be if one or two coveted players slid down the draft board.

I think this is the only possible chance. Somebody that sombody else is totally sold on slides. They see their one and only chance and just have to have the guy.

I know this is highly unlikely, but a man has to have his dreams-lol.

You never know..............

OSCAR,

THE DAMAGE IN THE NUCLAR REACTORS ARE A DIRECT RESULT OF THE EARTHQUKE AND THE TSUNAMI ............
