Mark Ingram? Is he No. 15 overall special?

Why Mark Ingram? What is the facination with this young man?

I get that he is the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner. I get that he is is an upstanding man. I get that he played for a great program at Alabama and in perhaps the most competitive league (SEC). But what is it about him that makes all the so-called draft gurus say he's going to be the Dolphins' choice in the first round of the April 28 draft?

Personally, I believe the Dolphins will select from the school of great need. They will select trade down.

Have I said it often enough? This team needs more picks more than ever with a likely coming rookie wage scale making draftees more valuable and cheaper than ever at a time the Dolphins lack a second round pick. So trading down in the first round and getting back a late second-rounder -- as Miami did last year -- or perhaps and early third-rounder, is a huge necessity.

Failing that, however, would the Dolphins use their pick on the 5-10 and 215-pound Ingram?

There's multiple ways of looking at this. From a historical and philosophical perspective is one way and that one suggests Miami should not go with Ingram.

Last season a alone a swing around NFL backfields revealed only two difference-making backs that were picked in the first round. Those were Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson.

Other RBs picked that early were not nearly as impressive. Ryan Mathews, Reggie Bush, Knowshon Moreno, Beanie Wells, Donald Brown, and closer to home, Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams were not difference makers despite being former first-round picks.

And in the meantime, running backs that didn't have that type of draft pedigree did make a splash. LeGarrette Blount was undrafted before doing fine work for Tampa Bay as a rookie. Arian Foster led the league in rushing and his pedigree is he was not drafted and toiled on Houston's practice squad before exploding onto the scene.

The point is effective running backs can be found throughout the draft and sometimes as free agents as well.

Special running backs, of course, are different.

Special ones like Marshall Faulk or Edgerrin James or Peterson are more than worthy of a high pick. But that leads us to the next perspective we must discuss in breaking down the Ingram possibility: Is he special?

He doesn't have great size as established above. He doesn't have great speed as evidenced by his 4.63 time in the combine and then 4.55 time at his Pro Day. By the way, what was going on with this kid around combine time that he was so unimpressive?

OK, well, maybe he's a monster on the field? He was very, very good in 2009 when he earned the trophy. But he was hurt much of 2010. He is a plugger. He merely plug away, plugs away in 5-, 6-, 4-yard bursts to get his yards. The 85-yard runs? The screen passes where he made two guys miss? The run up the middle where he ran around a linebacker and through the chest of a safety?

I didn't see that.

Don't get me wrong. Ingram is a nice player. He's a good player. I'd love for the Dolphins to have him. But I would hate for them to invest the No. 15 pick in the draft to get him.

Please remember that the draft is about getting value as well as a good player for your pick. Think about that because that idea has worked against the Dolphins previously.

I point you to 2008 when the Dolphins could have picked QB Matt Ryan with the first pick. They picked Jake Long. Long is a wonderful player. He's been a Pro Bowl player each of his first three seasons. But he's a left tackle.

He'll never lead a team to a Super Bowl. He'll never have the ball in his hands when the game is decided. He'll never be a difference-maker. So yes, the Dolphins got a great player with their first overall pick in 2008.

But they would have gotten more value if they had chosen Ryan, who is a very good quarterback and might someday do those things I just mentioned that a difference-making player can provide. Again, value can be just as important as production with the draft.

The 15th overall selection, provided Miami doesn't trade, should bring a special player. That pick should go to a difference-maker.

I believe Ingram will be a good platoon back. But a guy opposing defenses will have to game-plan for throughout the next four or five years?

I might need an eye exam. Because I don't see it.

Wait a minute! Whud you just SAY?

You ROACH! You beady eyed little RODENT!

Why I oughta.........

Mainly all the fake Alocos, that is a lot of checks.

I haven't even smoked anything and you guys are cracking me up.

I've read rankings and mocks until my eyes started too bleed.

I wonder what Jeffy's doing tonight?

WHY DO I FEEL THAT ARMANDO ONLY WRITES ONE POST ABOUT R.WILLIAMS THEN SWITCH TO WRITE ABOUT JASON TYLOR THEN BACK TO THE CRAP .

Joe Barksdale, OT-LSU

6-5 336-Hometown Detroit, Mi.

If he survived the streets of Detroit and made it too college, he's got to be a Brawler! This guy will be a late round "ACORN"-uggghhhhh!

Positives: Ideal size. Long arms with an even distribution of weight. Versatile player who has only four years of experience at tackle. Came to LSU as a highly touted defensive tackle prospect and that defensive mentality is occasionally seen on tape. Gains good depth on his kick-slide and has the lateral agility and balance to mirror the defender. Long arms and strong hands to control. Can turn and seal off defenders in the running game, giving backs an easy lane to run through. Shows some athletic ability getting to the second level and, while not nimble, can get in the way of the linebacker, essentially making the block. Legitimate upside. Might just be scratching the surface of his potential and could wind up a better NFL player than he was in college.

but his future in the NFL is almost surely at right tackle or perhaps even inside at guard. Given his experience on the right side (26 of his 39 career starts came there), he should be able to contribute early in his pro career.

Tiger Blood and Adonis DNA?

Guess again Charlie!

That's the Cocaine and Heroin talkin!

SpeedBallin's a MuthaFuker Bu-OY!!!!

What a sad year. I feel Ireland jumped ship and left Sparano out to dry. Because of this, the chemistry on Miami will likely never be the same (unless they bring a therapist in there or something). Also, Miami should consider trading Marshall for a high draft choice because this guys thinking goes South when he is frustrated. He also drop the freakin football too much. He can't be relied upon. Miami should start by firing Ireland, bringing in the Green Bay Packers draft organization, and get a QB!!!!!!!

Miami has always been a class organization but something is amiss. Perhaps Sparano can break the organization like Hackman broke the team on Hoosiers. A radical energy blast of class is needed in Miami. Who will administer this blast and is it too late? Either way, I miss you Don McNeal, AJ Duhe, Offerdahl, Warfield, Griese, etc.

David (CA)

Mallet was Henne's backup... Look at Henne's overall TDs in college... Production is important but if your going by college numbers than Henne's resume is as good as Gabberts the #1 QB

Odin, that's exactly what I was thinking when I saw that

My Two Mocks

Using #15

1. Mark Ingram
3. Titus Young
4. Ricky Stanzi
5. DJ Williams/Rob Housler or Kendric Burney
6. Emmanuel Moody(Gators speedy rb)
7. Phillip Livas(Louisiana Tech) Ran a 4.34 40yd. Should be good return man.

Trade down Mock(Extra 3rd rd'er)

1. Mike Pouncey or Ryan Mallet(ballsy pick)
3. Kendall Hunter
3. Titus Young or Jernel Jernigan
4. Ricky Stanzi
5. DJ Williams/Rob Housler or Kendric Burney
6. Emmanuel Moody(Gators speedy rb)
7. Phillip Livas(Louisiana Tech)

DB, I see you are doubling down on RB. I suggested earlier this FO may do that, since they have a history of doubling down, but then I retracted it. Still you never know. Personally I wouldn't miss seeing Cobbs or Hilliard in a fins uniform, so doubling down might help ease them out the door.

My Official Mock

1. Trade for a pick next year
3. Trade for a pick next year
4. Trade for a pick next year
5. Trade for a pick next year
6. Trade for a pick next year
7. Trade for a pick next year

It's going to be a wash season anyway for both the NFL and our HC. Let's do what we can in FA and go into next years draft loaded.

Yeah Baby!

Just woke up to a blizzard that blew in off Lake Superior.

Everybody's snowed in and my trucks are warming up!

I know people think work sucks, but sometimes it's just plain FUN!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it SNooooooooooW!!!!

ValHalla!!!!

Oh yeah,

DB, because of the limited number of TE's this year, I'll bet Housler and Cameron(usc) are both gone before the 5th.

0x80,

I feel your frustration!

I say go BPA no matter what ur need...

6.6 255 lb QB Cam Newton or Nothing

Now Get Your Shine Box!

Its not easy to make judgements but I hava to agree with Armando, Although to me its way to early to think that Ingram will be there at 15 maybe he won´t....I do believe a trade down would be best but WHAT IF they can´t you must take the best player available regardless of the position and I think because of the quantity this year it will be a Defensive player....But again that just me

Armando Great Article

Saludos mi hermano...

kevin kolb is NFL ready to play. i'd grab him for a 2nd (next year) and draft a greg mcelroy of bama in the 4-5th rounds if available. we need someone to actually win the job; a novel concept! definitely no ingram with the 15th pick! running backs are plenty and they don't last long. we could use a OL,FS or TE since we struck out last year.

KRIS,

THIS TIME IS DIFFERENT ,THE GM CAME AND SAID THAT PLUS THE NFL WILL BE BACK IN BIZ IN FEW DAYS TIME FOR NEW DEALS TO HAPPEN .THE TIMING IS RIGHT .

Trade away this years #15 and throw in another 2nd round pick for next year and

Draft 6.6 255 lb QB Cam Newton or ...

Ross will be sitting in the empty stands in his underwear & chaps muttering to himself with a half empty bottle of scotch and another losing Miami Dolphin season

Miami Dolphins should try to find a more radioactive running back in Japan

4:13 a.m. Monday ET, 5:13 p.m. Monday Tokyo] The detection of high levels of radioactivity in certain Japanese foods - and the nation's subsequent clampdown on their sales - signals the food safety situation is "more serious" than originally thought, a World Health Organization official said Monday.

[4:12 a.m. Monday ET, 5:12 p.m. Monday Tokyo] Smoke emanated Monday afternoon from the No. 3 reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, a Tokyo Electric Power Company official said.

[2:53 a.m. Monday ET, 3:53 p.m. Monday Tokyo] After more than a week of blowing from the northwest, winds in and around the stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan have now shifted - threatening to blow more massive radioactive emissions over more populated areas to the south.

The current pattern, with winds blowing from north/northeast through much of Japan, is expected to continue through Tuesday, according to CNN meteorologist Jennifer Delgado. That will carry more radioactive material onshore from the facility, which is 240 kilometers (150 miles) north of Tokyo.

The plant has suffered at least partial meltdowns in several of its reactors, leading to the emission of massive quantities of radioactive material.

and the New World Order rasises their glasses and says, "We will drink to that"

New World Order successfully contaminates drinking water 1st in Haiti w strain of Cholera only found in China & now in Japan

Soon California area drinking water will also be contaminated after massive HAARP earthquake affecting over 35 million people

5:18 a.m. Monday ET, 6:18 p.m. Monday Tokyo] Very high levels of radioactive iodine have been detected in the tap water at Iitake village, part of the same Fukushima prefecture where the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant is located, Japan's Health Ministry said.

Village authorities urged residents not to drink the tap water, if possible, according to a statement from the ministry. Measurements showed 965 becquerels per kilogram of radioactive iodine in the water, which is well above the 300 becquerels per kilogram maximum standard.

Hey how bout them Dolphins !?

U simple stupid dumbed downed oblivious idiots?

"Duh? Winning!"

HOME, WHY ARE YOU SO IN PANIC MOOD ?

After reading what everybody posted yesterday I racked my brain for the upteenth time and came to the following conclusions.

1) If we draft a Q.B. with the 15th pick I will smash my TV with a hammer !! If we get cute and trade future picks to move up and take Cam Newton I will pour gasoline around J.Ireland`s house and lite it up, preferably with him inside.

2) If we stay at 15 and draft Ingram I will grit my teeth, bear with it and give the kid the benefit of the doubt, he does seem to play with alot of heart. This will be made easier if we can get Jernigan or Edmon Gates later, while also addressing T.E. Housler or Williams will do. Casey Matthews and Colin Mcarthey are intruiging late round L.B./S.T. players.

3) DarrylD posted that the only 2 teams with multiple 2nd rounders are Pats and Bolts, he missed one the DL starved Broncos, new coach Fox puts a high premium on Def. Ends in his 4/3 scheme and the best will be available at 15, the down side is any trade with them would be out of round 1 all together but if we get both those 2nd rounders I would consider, it would be a high and middle pick in round 2. Then you can invest in a Mallet, Keap or Ponder, while having a shot at Lashoure and Torrey Smith addressing team needs while making the O faster and giving Henne much needed competition.

4) If someone like Robert Quinn falls to us at 15 I`m not so sure I would trade the pick, would love the idea of pairing Wake with a monster like that making our pass rush that much more effective. At the end of the day everybody has to weigh adding a bonna fide star to the team versus drafting out of need.

5) Ireland and Sparano better not muck this up or everybody will be reading about how there homes were burned to the ground, with them inside, could always pin it on Miami Beach arsenist, claiming he had an accomplice all along, LOL !!!!!!!!!!

Do not shoot the messenger, environmental patriot and seeker of truth, our Miami Herald blogger with keen insight to the real world, HOME.

I might agree with HOW you say it....but I definetly agree with WHAT you are saying....

There are bigger things in life then football....but.....

Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear.

Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how "reaaally big" God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit "shoots down power" from heaven to help us.

Told by the father, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle.

alot of pressure on ireland to not screw up yet another draft. he wont be able to blame parcells;he's all alone in a position he didnt earn. i just hope he has learned how to do a friendly professional interview with the young prospects. i hope he fired all our team doctors who gave green lights to all the injured players we sign. were we the only team to not realize al harris was washed up/injured? or that odrick had serious broken leg in college? nolan carroll too? broken foot took donald thomas out;probably ronnie too.

GearReport: One team willing to offer first-round pick for Kolb
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 21, 2011, 10:54 AM EDT

AP. Even though the Eagles can’t actually trade Kevin Kolb anytime soon, they are busy creating a market for him.

We have noted that Eagles coach Andy Reid and G.M. Howie Roseman have made it clear lately that Kolb is available. SI’s Peter King reports one team has already said they are willing to trade a first-round pick for him.

“Now [Reid is] looking for a team with a higher choice in the round to make him a better deal,” King wrote in MMQB.

That makes us wonder what mystery team is offering a first-round pick. We made the case a few weeks back that Seattle is the most logical fit for Kolb this offseason. They pick No. 25 overall.

If the Eagles truly do have a first-round offer in hand and have the ability to trade Kolb before the draft, he’s as good as gone. For now, those are large ifs.

Maybe we all need to sart seriously considering the UFL as an alternative if the NFL wants to push there BS money squabble into the reg. season, alot of former NFL bigwigs are doing it and there was a time when the AFL was an up and coming league, just a thought. My point is as fans our $ money has the power to make them legit if we desire.

Next big name to join UFL: Marty Schottenheimer
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 21, 2011, 10:30 AM EDT

AP. It’s been a fun morning for the UFL.

While the NFL tries to solve its labor crisis, the UFL continues to roll out former NFL coaches to join the upstart league.

First came Jerry Glanville. Now Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that Marty Schottenheimer is “on the verge” of becoming the coach/G.M. of the Virginia franchise.

Schottenheimer hasn’t resurfaced in the NFL since being fired after a 14-2 season with the Chargers in 2006. He’s 67 years old, but it sounds like he’s not done with football just yet.

YOU CAN'T TRUST A PLAYR LIKE CARSON PALMER WHO SAYS ,(( I HAVE 80 MILLION IN THE BANK AND I DON'T NEED FOOTBALL ))...SO PALMAER IS OUT .

FLYNN OF GB LOOKING TO START FOR A NEW TEAM THIS YEAR, HE'S A FREE AGENT BUT CAN IRELAND TRUST A QB WITH ONE GAME WONDER VS NE .

NOW WE LEFT WITH KOLB AND VY ........
