Dolphins to conduct private workout with Newton

Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton has a private workout scheduled with the Dolphins, a source is telling the NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora.

Newton, perhaps the most scrutinized and talked-about player in the draft, also has workouts scheduled with Carolina, Washington, Buffalo, Minnesota, Tennessee, Cincinnati and Cleveland, according to the report.

What does that all mean?

It means Newton is such a compelling and imposing quarterback talent that teams at the very top of the draft are going to give him serious consideration. And it also means there is no clear consensus on Newton as a franchise quarterback type because teams slated to select well into the first round are looking very closely because he might be around when they select.

The Dolphins?

General Manager Jeff Ireland has promised to do all his homework on quarterbacks. Thank God! The Dolphins need a game-changer at the position so they are apparently leaving no pebble unturned and dismissing no possibility in an effort to upgrade.

Picking Newton, assuming he is available when the Dolphins select at No. 15, isn't necessarily an instant upgrade. Wherever he is selected, the chances of him starting immediately are slim. The kid is a physical speciman at 6-foot-5 and 248 pounds. He runs like the wind. He has a bazooka for an arm.

And having said that, there are questions about his footwork, accuracy, technique, ability to adjust to a pro-style attack after playing in the spread offense at Auburn, and there are questions about how quickly he'll learn to recognize coverages and be able to manipulate safeties.

So there's a lot to investigate on Newton.

If you ask me, I am thrilled the Dolphins are doing the work.

And yes, despite all the questions, I'd love for Miami to take him if he's available at No. 15. I don't think he'll be there.

But I have a dream.

If Newton lives up to his potential he would be a top 5 QB in the league... I understand its a big IF but his potential is there and nobody with a brain can deny it... My biggest thing last year with Dez Bryant was he had the potential but with the off field issues he fell but as everyone saw and knew with his potential he was easily a top ten talent. Same thing with Vontae Davis. If Newton falls to a team at 20 its going to be disgusting watching him dominate. It'd be the biggest mistake to pass on his potential if he falls to 15... that being said I don't see a chance in hell he is there at 15

I could definitely see the Bengals or the Raiders screwing him up bad though... The way I see it he doesn't even need to start right away becuz we have Henne for one more year and he'd have a year under his belt with this new offense and offensive coach. Whenever you bring in a new O coach switching up QBs is inevitable becuz they push for the guy they want. Question is what is Daboll looking for?

Odin,
We don't have to agree but I respect your posts/ opinions. Keep em coming strong.
Rob,
How is Kaepernick a better QB prospect than Newton?
Kaepernick has more question marks let alone becuz he played at Nevada. Maybe becuz of his size he won't bust like P White. But the similarities are there... I wouldn't take a QB in the 2nd unless Mallet is there. Kaepernick in the 4th.

If we trade back into the 2nd a guy I'm really high on is Greg Little I think he has more athletic potential than Hakeem Nicks. He might possibly be there in the 3rd but i doubt it. I'd jump all over it.

No way on newton. No way, for a 100 reasons.

The couch was low so as I sat looking at her in the chair, my eyes were right in line with her slightly parted legs. I never saw her thighs before, and now was seeing them way up high, to the darkness that barely showed her panties. We chatted for a bit more, but I kept getting distracted by her luscious legs. I suddenly felt shy and wondered if she was flirting with me or if it was all merely unaware innocence on her part. She caught me looking and I caught her catching me looking, and for a brief moment, time froze what may have been a moment of awkwardness, but we both felt the same thing at the same time. I didn't know what to do. My mind was racing, my heart was beating, there was another glance that began to linger, when she then eased my confusion by parting her legs more while looking at me profoundly with her soft, dark eyes. As though drawn by a force of inescapable magnetism, I suddenly found my face between her legs, peeling down her panties, and her excitement enhanced the pleasure for both of us as our inhibitions faded away, and the night went on and on and on.

beerphin,

Wasss happenin bro!

Because I think he would help sooner I would lean towards Mallet towards the end of the 1st if we could swing it.

I like Kaepernick vs Cam as he was a 4 year starter and not a one year wonder.

He's faster than Cam Newton. Has at least as good of a cannon. He is only 15 pounds lighter than Newton and has basically all the same measurements...it's scary close on the height, hand size etc.

You don't have all the off the field drama with his Dad, family, entourage etc.

You are going to have to spend time and invest training, study and tuteledge on both Cam and Kaepernick.

The magic with Kaepernick is we can fill a different need or two and then get him. I believe he will go in the 2nd round but if he slides to the 3rd that would be a killer bargain in my opinion.

I know you have the 4rth round and maybe he can go that far. In this pass first ask questions later league that is the NFL, every team that needs a QB and didn't get one in the first will be looking at him.

That is why I like Kaepernick vs Cam. Cam has less time and reps in 1 year at Auburn. Cam has the swarm/icon thing which I see as a negative. I have a gut feeling that Cam Newton may be money driven...his Dad is. Does the fruit fall from the tree?

I picture Colin Kaepernick as much more of a first in, last out of the building guy. A gym rat.

Those are my basic reasons.

Cheers,

Bills will pick him

A(+) note. if Daboll can make a rookie QB with no real WR threats look decent & beat sainst, Pats etc he shoudl be able to do some magic with Henne who has a gun for an arm, 3 Starting Caliber WR's & a decent RB. Still need a TE that can sepaarate & I hope they are looking into that. But I think Henne has what it takes, if they let the damn guy just play

d,

Just a question but, what gives you the impression that the Fins didn't just "let Henne play?"

Besides the Wildcat plays which make no sense to have him in on. I hear a ton about how OC Henning/TS/and QB coach messed Henne up or limited him.

How do people get this insider info and how do you know he was coached so poorly or limited?

So when Henne is on the field and the DEF jumps 3 yards offsides is it the coaching that causes Henne not to snap the ball to get the free 5 yards?

When Henne lets a deep ball fly is it the coaching that says make sure you either throw it out of bounds or over the guys head?

Is it Tony Sparano or the QB coach that says that when you throw the out skip it to the WR?

How about when it's close in a tight game not to worry about the jersey color as Ints count as completions?

Was it Nolan that told Henne when the rush is coming to make sure he looks down or at the pass rushers?

I am exagerating some but these are things I saw in most every game.

I hope Henne gets better. If he does he will prove a lot of scouts, fans and pundits wrong. As a realist I am not holding my breath. Many people that religiously followed him at Michigan say he was the same way there. Might they be using the same tactics coaching QBs at Michigan?

Cheers,

good points but family aside. The one year vs 4 year theory is disproven with Henne vs Sanchez... 4 year starter vs 1 yr starter. I'd take Sanchez any day becuz of his potential even though they have similar stats so far. Sanchez is becoming the face of the franchise while Henne is the disgrace...

that last point about Henne's game drove me crazy thats why I worry about Mallet he flops under pressure

beerphin,

The thing is Sanchez is not winning games for the Jets. He seems to have a better supporting cast. A better way to put it is if they switched teams they would be in about the same position wins wise.

As you said the numbers are nearly the same with Henne getting a slight nod in some categories.

The Jets didn't outright earn their first playoff trip but I don't want to come across as sour grapes.

You cvan take Sanchez I say they are noth coin toss type Qbs...sometimes they make a play and other times not so much.

Cheers,

Sanchez has poise and rebounds to win games in the clutch. I hate to say it but he will be trouble in the AFC East years to come. The Jets supporting squad really has the edge only with the Oline but with everything else I see the Phins being superior. One thing I noticed was after JT left here he never said things about Henne that he has stated about Sanchez. Can't recall verbatim but it was definitely shining and positive...

beerphin,

Every QB I have ever seen has buckled under some kind of pressure or another. Even the greats...

Marino
Elway
Peyton
Brady
Warner
Vick

Mallet lost 3 games his Senior year.

His team the #12 Razorbacks lost to #1 Alabama 20-24. He was 25-38 for 357 1 TD and 3 Ints.

Lost to #7 Auburn 43-65 He was 10-15 for 96 yards 1 TD zero Ints He was injured.

Lost in the Sugar Bowl to #6 Ohio State 26-31 He was 24-47 for 277 yards 2 TDs 1 Int

They hadn't been to the Sugar Bowl in 30 years.

I don't think Mallet should hang his head too low. As a #12 team they weren't suppose to beat any of those 3 teams.

I know by hitting you with stats I may not be doing much to change your mind but they seem pretty decent to me.

Cheers,

Japan had a 8.5 earthquake!

They had tsunami's and everything.

Crazy stuff!

Mallet's stats are impressive but if your throwing stats then Newton's are that much more impressive how bout:
0 losses
6 games with 170+ yrds rushing
30 TD 7 ints w/ 66.1% cmp %
Heisman trophy / National Champ
late 4.5 speed with a 6'5 250 frame

Maybe he should have Payton Manning do his workout...then put his name on it.

The Dolphins need a quarterback, not an entertainer and an icon. Pass this loser on to another team.

Hey fellas, anyone can share a bit of wisdom about how players are chosen in drafts? I mean what are the roles of ireland, sparano and daboll/nolan?

just say no to newton

if mark sanchez can take a team deep into the playoffs two years in a row while not having the same tools of a cam newton. This guy could possibly take us there, hes won on every level.

TOP PEOPLE THAT ARE A DRAIN ON THE ECONOMY,DYEING BREAD,OC ROB,CUBEN,ON HERE ALL NIGHT WHILE I WORK AND PAY TAXES SO THEY CAN STEY ON THE COMPUTER ALL NIGHT.

We had ted Ginn and his family. Cam comes with a fanily too. So my question to Hewton lovers is this:

"Even if Newton turns out to be good. What if his father decides he wants Cam "the entertainer" to hone is entertainer skills under the bright lights of New York?"

We do know Cam Newton's father loves pimping his son out. Didnt you guys get the $100,000 memo?

Not to even mention possibilities of Cam Newton himself potentionally being trouble. There's the great prospect of his father at some point being trouble too for some unsuspecting nfl organization.

Are you guys 100% certain you would have that nfl organization be the Miami Dolphins? I see potential trouble on so many levels if we draft Newton & Newton.

Besides, the Fins have had thier fair share fill of Cams of late. We've had Cam-Cam, now have a Cam Wake, we dont need a Cam-a-ram. As in up our own a*sses!

We have our best Cam(Wake) ever. So lets quit while ahead before we get Cam-damn!

Newton is a big FIG!

FLIP FLOPING AGAIN I SEE DB,IAM GONNA STERT CALLING YUO A FISH OUT OF WATER.

Aloco,

I wouldnt have it any other way...gobbling up your taxes while you work, I bang on the drums all day.

=)

I saw that you wanted to take the $10,000 and then double it... what r u lotto man?

Nothing is free, Uncle Sam tells you so!

home come tell us about the quake in japan and the nwo.

beerphin,

I read one of your last posts and I had to laugh. You said 'The Jets offensive line was better than ours last year but we were superior everywhere else'. REALLY?....Let me count the ways....

Their running game was better than ours. If you want to attribute that to their OL, that's fine, but production out of the running game was better than ours. Their WR play was better than ours. Their TE play from Keller was better than anything we had. Their entire defence was better than ours. Their secondary was better than ours. Their special teams was better than ours. Their coaching was better than ours. Not sure we had them in too many dpets last year. Go back and look at the numbers and the plays. They were a better team. On top of all that you want to make out that Sanchez 'has the poise and will dominate for years in the AFC East'. Interesting, 'cause his numbers were worse than Henne's last year and he was almost benched a couple of times. Guys often look good with good players and a good system around them. That's what I've been arguing for a long time that Henne hasn't had so far.

My prediction with the Jets is that they have peaked and they will lose a lot of bodies through FA and age and because they've mortgaged their future they won't be able to replace right away through the draft. I'm saying they will fall to 8-8 this year.

one thing is for sure, cam newton's stock is going to drop like a rock if the cba doesn't get done and the teams don't have ota's and minicamps. that goes for jake locker, as well. it will setback their development for at least another year and teams that will be looking at them in that way will have a hard time justifying taking them in the first if they have to spend that kind of time getting them ready to play.

I'm with you Mando. I would be thrilled with any QB selected at 15 because until the Dolphins figure out the QB position, it won't matter who their other 21 starters are. And like you said, selecting a 1st round qb brings hope that this franchise will finally step into the 21st century and be able to compete. I'm not scared of selecting a bust at 15 because our current qb is a bust, the available FA qbs are busts. I say keep selecting a QB in the 1st round every three years until you get it right. This practice should have already been implemented in the late 90s when Marino retired but better late than never.

We already missed out on Brees, Rodgers, and Ryan. That's enough.

craig,
Just my opinion but Ronnie and Ricky are better than LT & Greene, and I'd rather have Marshall & Bess over Holmes and Edwards. TE play was better but I'd still rather have an all around guy like Fasano as well. Henne was terrible last year. It all starts with the QB when it comes to production even w/ the running game

Also I said he'd be trouble not dominate. I stated if Newton landed with a team that picks around 20 and already is a playoff team then he could dominate. maybe thats a misunderstanding but don't sensationalize something I said by rewording it

And I wasn't comparing defenses as it has close to nothing to do with QB play. But I'd still take Phins defense over the Jets. Don't care bout rankings and numbers either. If we had a decent offense that kept us on the field maybe the D would have been tops in the league we just don't know becuz we dealt with watching Henne last year

Missing a 5 yrd wide open TD pass to Fasano last year is a prime example of epic fail. I guess that was everyone elses fault, too. Maybe the light turns on and he does a 180 but the direction Henne is going now is down and out. IMO it has nothing to do with the skill players around him. Possibly with a better interior Oline things would be different...

Colin Kaepernick or Ryan Mallett-or trade out of the 15th pick altogether.

Does Cam Newton have the ability to be an NFL q.b. the answer is yes, will he transition to the pro game and not be flustered by blitz packages, disguised coverages, flooded zones, shifting alignments at the line before the snap. The only way to truely answer that goes to dedication and how willing he will actually be to putting in the work breaking down film, you think Manning and Brady are great because they can survey the field quickly, that`s only part of it. The other part is there ability to recognize at the line what they see even if it shifts before the snap and knowing were the hot read is or is the icon about endoresments and selling sneakers that and the very real possability that his family will have the potential to turn where ever he lands into a three ring circus at least innitialy.

I read a very interesting article on NFL.Com about the current situation of another NFL problem child who after reading the article have no doubt will not require a trade because of his contract situation. That player is VY and while alot of people don`t want him and for good reason if you take the attitude he has displayed into account, there are other intangibles however that should be weighed. He is 38-18 as an NFL starter it has become common knowledge that Coach Fisher who never wanted VY benched him every chance he got basically putting alot of pressure on him to be great because mediocre meant K.Collins was coming in, this culminating in an explative filled tirade after being pulled in a late season game against Wash. sealing his fate in Tenn. because new Coach Munchak wants no part of him having witnessed it.

In terms of potential I see these two as similar as any two players can be with the exception that in VY you have a player who were ever he goes will be looking to win games, the media and fans back. It should make for a rededicated VY given that he is due 4.5 mil ten days after the new CBA is signed, when it`s expected he will be cut plus 8.8 mil in base salary, money he will loose and no team that picks him up will be willing to give, or we can wait and see if the icon can pull himself away from the cameras long enough to learn the nuances of being an NFL Q.B.

fin4life-you nail it right on the head, these two couldn't be more simialr in every aspect, let these guys be someone elses headaches!!

Fin4life - with you all the way on VY.

Oscar - Why would the monkey dance if another team is offering the same or better (Clark signed with Pitt for LESS money than the Fins offered him)? Also, they were not cheap with BM or Dansby but have been with many, many others and gaffed completely on a number of really good pick ups (Holmes, for example)

For as many as they've hit on, they've missed on just as many or more (FAs and Draft).

Whoever said they have three starting caliber WRs, you are nuts. Two: Bess and Marshall. Sure, Hartline is a starter... in the CFL.

If THE FINS WANT TO MAKE A LONG RUN YOU ALWAYS GET THE BEST PLAYER.

EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT MOVING BACK. I RATHER GET A A+ PLAYER THAN AN B- AND A C+.

I KNOW HOW MOST OF YOU TAKE IT OUT OF CONTEXT SO YES YOU CAN GET GREAT PLAYERS IN THE 2ND AND A 1ST IS NOT A SURE THING BUT THEY're A 1ST FOR A REASON.

MOVING UP TO GET JULIO JONES IS THE BEST THING THE FINS CAN DO TO TURN THIS THING AROUND.

CAN YOU SAY UNSTOPABLE, BIG, PLAYMAKERS.

ANYONE ELSE WOULD BE PLAIN STUPID.

ONLY WAY YOU MOVE BACK IS TO GET THE FIRST ROUND PICK NEXT YEAR NOT A 2ND OR A 3RD THIS YEAR.

LOSERS MENTALITY IS TO MOVE ASIDE AND LET OTHERS GO. WE NEED TO BE FIRM AND STRONG. BUMP A FEW PEOPLE AS WE WALK.

OUR TEAM HAS BEEN TO SOFT FOR TO LONG.

@ Jimmy Jam,

With you all the way on FA hit and misses, 14 mil guaranteed to an often injured center, another 6.5 to LG with an even bigger history of injuries, G.Wilson (puking in my mouth) ect...

As far as the rec. go Bess while I love him is a slot guy starting by default, I remember last year after we got Marshall asking myself who would make the Safties play deep leading me to believe if D.Bryant was there we would take him and we all remember how that turned out, with bones Odrick.

I think that this FO under Ireland really doesnt have a clue as to how the game is evolving, I think now looking back that they meant to use Marshall like some glorified T.E. instead of looking to get him some room to work 15 to 20 yards down field. It`s this realization more than any that has me down on there ability to bring this team back, I hope I`m wrong.

(CNN) -- The New World Order threat of a HAARP created RF vibration wave has a triggered a great earthquake and huge tsunami prompted the U.S. National Weather Service to issue a warning for at least 50 countries and territories after an 8.9-magnitude.

The New World Order wide-ranging list of targets includes Russia and Central American countries like Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica and the U.S. state of Hawaii.

The HAARP triggered earthquake, which struck near the coast of Honshu, Japan on Friday afternoon, unleashed a spectacular wall of water that rushed in toward land, leveling houses and bashing cars in its path and apparently killing hundreds so far.

Expect the New World Order
Symphony Of Destruction to accelerate

have a HAARPy day :(

Mark,

I know that we need to fix the QB spot with a franchise player. But not at the neglect of the rest of the team. If the rest of the team is porous, a franchise QB might as well sit on the bench, rather than get mauled.

We over-estimated Henne (but choosen at #57, did we really expect him to be Marino?), yet don't under-estimate him either. Not yet.

I don't pretend to know whether he has it in him to be our meal-ticket, or soup-kitchen, but then, as Amando pointed out earlier, the vast majority of great QB's are always picked in the first round.

This organization has been trying to fill a void using a garage-sale mentality since Marino's departure. You know, 'one man's junk is another man's treasure'...

Yes, I agree, our next franchise QB will be drafted in the 1st. But only if that type of guy is available.

What do you do if Cam, Mallot, and Locker (by the way, only one of these 3 are really any good by comparison...time will prove this), are taken before the #15th?

Take a shot in the dark? Isn't that an exhaustive, and expensive dig around the knick-knacks at the garage-sale, once again?

Don't draft a QB in the 1st simply because one exsists...

An 8.5 earthquack, jesus Japan must have gotten leveled, the Cal. quack of 89 our last really big one that destroyed S.F. wasn`t even a 6 pointer, if memory serves it was around a 5.8 or something.

Wake Up The Sheeple!

The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) is an ionospheric heater which beams RF vibration waves preciously at any predetermined target. Beaming Vibration waves at things like fault lines which can & does then trigger ...

an Earthquake, and subsequently creates Tsunamis

Imagine that!

have a HARRPy day :(

@ GulfDolphin,

I couldn`t agree more, will Cam the Icon be a student of the game or will he be to busy selling sneakers, can Mallet translate his arm to the next level or after getting paid will he be like Scareface at the end of the movie with a pyle of Cocaine on his desk and of course can somebody fix the issues regarding Locker`s accuracy, which seem on par with Henne`s.

To many unknowns here if someone were to fall into rd.4 then you can`t not take a chance but 1st. rd. no way !! I just as soon take my chances with a VY 1st. were I would at least know what I have to work with at the NFL level.

Apparently Japan was all HAARPed up early this morning

:(

I wonder how the Japan Navy held up???, What???? Since 1945????, Did'nt know they were'nt allowed a navy....

Home, Hows the negotioations going with Mr. Pitt playing you in the upcoming Mega motion picture "Have a Haarpy day" ????

The Sheeple will never expect it

They r way too oblivious & ignorant

Weapons of Mass Destruction disguised as a research facility

HAARP

tee-hee

Nice work, Home

Nice work indeed

@ cuban M 10:30

what Navy they haven`t had one since we sunk it in World War 11

Menace who posted that ?

Home,

What the Hell is going on, man!

Japan got devastated by that HAARP triggered earthquake, one of the biggest ever!
and then the waves of water, unbelievable!

Home WTF else can the do with that HAARP Ionospheric heater?

The New World Order is unstoppable with these weapons of mass destruction.
