Dolphins release preseason schedule for 2011

The Dolphins will do exactly what the headline above says they will do.

The team will announce that it is playing four preseason games in 2011, with one of those games being against Tampa Bay.

Last season, the Dolphins added Atlanta at home and at Dallas on the preseason schedule.

That's all I got for now.

What can I tell you? It's a lockout. News is scarce.

Update: OK, here it is. Drumroll please ...

The Dolphins preseason schedule according to the NFL begins Aug. 13 at the Atlanta Falcons. Carolina travels to Miami on Aug. 20 for the second preseason game. Miami travels to Tampa Bay on Aug. 27 for the important third game of the preseason. The preseason finale will feature the Dallas Cowboys traveling to Sun Life Stadium on Sept. 1.

Times of the games will be determined later. This, by the way, is from the official NFL schedule.

The Dolphins have released a schedule in which the dates are still up in the air. For example, the team is saying the Atlanta game will be played sometime between Agu. 12-15. The Carolina game will be played sometime between Aug. 19-22. The Tampa Bay game will be sometime between Aug. 26-29 and the Cowboys preseason-finale would be sometime between Sept. 1-2.

Know what? I'm going with the NFL schedule until further notice.

The only redundancy in the preseason and regular season schedule is the Cowboys, which Miami is scheduled to play in the regular season at Dallas.

The Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars -- for years a staple of each other's preseason schedule -- will not renew their in-state festivities this preseason for reasons that are not clear. Carolina takes the place of the Jaguars, obviously.

Miami will not be featured on any nationally televised preseason games.

This obviously assumes none of the games are cancelled due to an ongoing lockout. If all or part of the preseason gets washed out, we'll just simply have to find something else to do. Yes, that is the state of the NFL today.

odin,

You know one such double trade back in the last decade involved Ireland, it was in 04 when Dallas/Parcells traded back twice but ultimatly out of rd.1 for 3 picks in rd.2

I remember because they needed to replace Emmit and everybody including studio analyst M.Irvin had them taking Steven Jackson and when they traded down the 2nd. time I remember Irvin nearly blowing a fuse on the set saying Jerry had blown it.

There was a future pick as well just can`t remember the compensation.

We could do this mock any number of ways. For simplicities sake, I would be OK with:

1. No trade scenarios.

This would be so we can make fair comparisons afterwards. With all the possible trade scenarios, any comparisons would be pretty difficult.

2. The only other rule I would want is something that will keep things somewhat realistic.

I was thinking we could agree on a predetermined site that has a top 200 prospect rankings. If we picked a site we all agree on, we could say you can pick a certain player but he can't be ranked more than than 10 slots higher than where you're picking at.

Therefor, a reach would be OK. Taking the top rated player in the entire draft at 15 would not.

Maybe a 5 slot limit in the 1st round and a 15 slot limit from the 3rd round on down.

This is all arbitrary on my part. But I think if we could establish something like this or something similar, things would go a lot smoother.

Any thoughts????

What does Michael Irving possibly know about Drafting players? Very little.

oscar,

He new enough to know that they did make a mistake not drafting S.Jackson, remember the RB. they end up taking is Julius Jones.

Oscar,

Thanks! Those 2nd round picks make all the difference in the world(BIG SIGH)!

Odin...@ 8:21..That is exactly the idea. We can iron out the kinks. But my idea is that we draft in the order we are in now. This makes it simple. The whole idea is to have fun, and then totaly rip on one another afterwards.....
Seriously, it makes the whole thing worth while if we try and make it as realistic as possible. What that means is subject to interpretation.

The whole idea is to see what each blogger would do if they were in the situation of GM. The only rule would be you can't make trades. Some of the mid round picks may be a reach, some may not. But this is the fun part that we can review after the fact.

Also we shouldn't worry if on draft day the team makes a trade. It isn't like their is an award for being the most right. Just the ever lasting ridicule when we are wrong!!!! Should be fun. I just suggested this, so however folks want to do it is fine. I would vote that we limit it to 1 mock, and try to make it as realistic as you see fit. What players you think would be good players for our team. Any suggestions would be cool.

The reason that draft is so memorable to me is because that was the famous 6 Canes in the 1st. round draft, a record which I think never gets broken. That and Wannstache taking the wrong Cane in Carey at 19 leaving Wilfork at 21 for N.E. as long as I live I`ll remember that draft for that alone !

Fin4life,

I do remember the Cowboys doing that.

To be honest, I was TOTALLY on board with it too. I thought Steven Jackson would be average at best in the NFL.

I "shook it off" and never looked back. I never told anybody about it until now, Kiper would have been proud of me-LOL!

Listen, you have to realize(as I have) that the position that is responsible for Drafting good football players IS the most important position in a football Team. Do not believe for a moment that Ireland will be the only responsible one for the success or failure of the next Draftees. So, in all other football Teams.

If you look back, there are no "impeccable" ones in the Art of drafting football players. There are always hits and misses. It's the ones that miss less that get the better paychecks.

Listen I'm a dolfan but all y'all hater cud screw urself we gonna trade back and pick an ol pouncey from Florida

OK, here's my proposition. Take it or leave it.

1. No trades: (1st-15) - (3rd-79) - (4th-111) - (5th-146) - (6th-179) - (7th-217-218-235).

2. We'll use: cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings?

3. For 1st round selection(15), we'll use any on the board from 11 on down. The top ten ranked prospects will be off limits.

4. For our 3rd round pick(79), we'll use any on the board from 60th on down. The top 59 ranked prospects will be off limits.

5. From our 4th round pick on down, just keep it as real as possible.

Darryl, you proposed this mock, so I think the decision is yours. You can adopt this format, modify it or simply say: Keep it as real as possible.

The choice is yours, so one way or the other, lay down the law and let's get this thing rolling.

I prefer the caveat above, but I will participate whatever way you want to do it. Make it official Darryl.

A fan based mock draft! On at Dolphins In Depth Folks!!!!

A fan based mock draft! Only at Dolphins In Depth Folks!

Dooh!

Guys

Roger that Redsky - We read you - OVER!

Guys, enjoy your predictions, although I appreciate your dedication....I think we are ALL going to be surprised by our team's picks. Then we will have to deal with it! As we have done since Shula.....Ahhh, the good old days! :)

Odin...I think folks can just do what they see fit. The only problem I have with the rankings(especially in the first round)is that there ae a ton of D-Lineman that may go higher or lower then what their projections are. I think if people want to take it seriously we will get some good mocks. Thats the whole point. Folks that have total unrealistic draft boards will be subject to many days-months of ridicule, name calling, and spy accusations.

I think we should leave it up to the blogger to make his or her best choices. If the Mock is totaly unrealistic, it probably will not get much positive feedback. So those people can go fu@$ themselves.....

Odin, stop reading my mind! LOL!!!

DarrylD, love your posts, definitely have to drive up... Meet Odin, then go west to meet you!!!

Redsky...Thank you. Are you gonna do a mock?

Where is 0x80?? This one is for him. I have this wierd Lex Hilliard radar that clicks in my head that says folks are talking about him on the blog. I usually chime in to defend him. 0x80 has this same sixth sense about Tawain Jones. Except MR.80 thinks Jones is about as useful as well...Lex Hilliard.

Anyway, for those interested in T.J. There is a new You Tube Video(sorry I don't have the link, but I'm sure it is easy to find)It is Jones at the Athletes Enduro Complex(something like that) training for his Pro-Day. He is at full strength now and is running. He thinks he can run a sub 4-3 40. He is clocked in the low 1-4 for his ten yard burst, and will no doubt be the fastest prospect in this draft. He hardly looks small or frail in this clip. In fact he is pumped up.

Now here is the bad news if you are a T.J. fan. 2 teams are really high on him. High on him like real dope high. Guess who??? Our buddies the Pittsburg Steelers, and our worst nightmere...The jets. How bad would that suck?
The Seahawks are said to be in the running. This comes from a friend that is a writer at the Missoulian who does the Big Sky beat for the paper.

DarrylD, I'd rather enjoy reading your mocks, I've gotten lazy since my retirement! I'd rather grill steaks, select wine, beer, make drinks, than do mock drafts! Doesn't make me less of a fan, just one that has prioritized in a lockout year!

DarrylD, if YOU want me to I will!

Darryl/odin

I like the ideas proposed for putting up a mock draft but it would make it more interesting if everybody actually put up there idea of how it could play out including trades, why not ? Hey DD like you yourself said if it`s rediculous then get ready to be roasted. I gotta tell you guys if not then it`s a bit boring to me and you can have my pick 15 right now, Mark Ingram, if your going to pigeon hole it then expect everybody to put this pick in as well, where is the fun in that.

please ,

I LIKE TO LIVE IN THE PAST WHEN WE HAD MARINO,ZACH,AND OTHERS WHO GAVE US THE SB RING ............LET'S TALK ABOUT THE PAST AND FORGET THE FUTURE .

FIN4LIFE,

YOU ARE ASKING PEOPLE TO PUT THEIR MOCK DRAFT ? THAT MEANS VERY ,VERY,VERY LONG POSTS ...WATCH OUT FOR ;;;

JASON
DEREK
ROB
DD................... PLEASE PEOPLE MAKE IT SHORT IN 2 - 5 LINES ,PLEASE .

Anyone here thinks Da'Quan Bowers could sink to #15? Crazy but possible.

I can totally see Ireland drafting him at #15 if so. He loves damaged goods.

DYING BREED DOESN'T LIKE LONG POSTS ,HE LOVES SHORT POSTS LIKE ME .HE FINDS THE LONG ONCE ANNOYING .

ALoco,

At max I try and keep it no longer than 2 long paragraphs and the 3rd paragraph being no more than 2 sentences long.

Someone had a post so long today with neither sentence nor paragraph separation. Those are the post I wont even attempt to read.

However, everyone's diffrent. Some can express thier thoughts in few words and be right to the point. Then some take hundreds of words to literally say nothing. LOL..........

ALoco,

It would probably take 10 mniutes for Tony Sparano to tell you what time it is. He would have to tell you about his watch, the 45 second play clock, how numbers were 1st invented, how much weight he lost over the offseason, then tell you what time it is by explaining the Roman numeral system.

Just dont ask Tony Sparano for the time if you're in a hurry. LOL.............

What time is it? Well I can answer that because I have watches and cell phones and I always know what time it is so I can tell you that and tell you what time it will be the next time you ask if you ask because I keep track of those kinda things and can tell you which players arrive to the meetings within 3 seconds on time or 30 minutes on time and I know how long it takes each player to take a swig of water or delay getting back to the line because these types of things are what we look at and measure and try to improve and we do our best at that because every little thing counts and if I can gain one second out of a player that translates on the field and the difference between a win and a loss can come down to one play so I'll take an extra second from each player where I can get it because that is what winning is about and we want to win and speaking of time its time for me to take a laxative.

That was awesome, sounds just like TS

Breed...Bowers will not drop that far in my opinion....nice thought though my friend

alright odin! you threw out the challenge so i'm taking my shot. so, here it is:

#15-aldon smith, olb
#79-stefan wisniewski, c
#114-bilal powell, rb
#151-dion lewis, rb
#187-david arkin, og
#217-johnny white, rb
#218-lestar jean, wr
#235-jt thomas, lb,st

just for the record i picked wisniewski in the third because i recently saw some info that shows him dropping to that round.

DB,
if bowers knee is as bad as some suggest and he is going to have a problem with arthritis that will significantly shorten his career i could see him falling past us at #15. some teams won't touch him if he is going to be that much of a risk and he really didn't help himself with his lackluster performance at his pro day. i'm hoping he stays in the top ten because, if he falls, he throws a wrench in the works and now the whole thing becomes a cluster for us sitting where we are at.

It's gonna suck with no football this year.

as usual,i have alot more faith in my fellow bloggers draft picks than i do in jeff irelands selections. how could jeff let bellichek outsmart him on every selection last year? how could we miss out on several tight ends last year (position of need)???? the pats grabbed two!

Okay -- pop quiz -- what's the worst Dolphin Draft pick of the past 20 years

1. Randill 'Thrill Hill'
2. Jason Allen
3. John Beck
4. Pat White.
5. Yatil Green
6. EDDIE MOORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (hint)
7. Cecil "The Diesel" Collins
8. Whatever it was we traded for A.J. Feely
9. Whatever it was we traded for Daunte Culpepper
10. Whatever it was we traded for Lamar Gordon.

I'll do my mock draft version 1.0

#1-Ryan Mallett, QB
#3-Luke Stocker TE
#4-Shane Vereen RB
#5-Brian Rolle, OLB
#6-John Moffitt, OG
#7-Denarius Moore, WR
#7-Chris Hairston, OT
#7-Mario Fannon, RB

Gary Stevens-

Good list of bad picks or trades. I say Jamar Fletcher

I keep forgetting Jamar Fletcher!

Guys, I have to say worst pick in the last twenty year was John Avery. I forget who some of the other options were but we could have done a lot better. Jamar Fletcher was probably second worst.

Yatil Green was bad but really you can't avoid injuries. May just have been bad luck. Ted Ginn is very likely a top 5. Imagine Patrick Willis playing on our defence today instead.

BUT IF WE DO THE MOCK IT SHOULD BE CLOSER TO THE DRAFT

Anyone read the Barry Jackson article on the Herald today concerning Ryan Mallet?

Sounds like there could be some legitimate interest by Sparano and Ireland. They had DJ Williams there at the same time. Would be nice to have them both.

But Im sure some of agree with that and some of us would not. Still too, that's what takes the robotics out of being human. LOL............

ARMANDO...

IS THERE A WAY WE AS FANS CAN PROTEST TO FORCE SPARANO OUT OF OFFICE?

Armando says he'll be submitting the mock draft blog "Easter Sunday" for all who wish to participate.

THIS JUST IN....

THERE WILL BE FOOTBALL GAMES THIS YEAR.

BECAUSE THERE ISN'T REALLY A LOCKOUT.

IT'S A PLOY TO RAISE TICKET SALES ACROSS THE NFL.

Don't forget some of those Shula-era gems. Billy Milner, anyone? Eric Kumerow? First-rounders both.

I know some folks desperately want to believe Shula drafted better than the current braintrust but it simply isn't true. The Dolphins success rate the past few years has been very average by NFL standards, with a NORMAL amount of hits and misses. Many Shula-era drafts were below that standard.

IT'S TAKEN FROM THE 9/11 BOOK.

WE HEAR ABOUT A THREAT.

THE LEVEL GOES UP WE GEAR UP FOR THE WORST AND NOTHING HAPPENS.

Seems the bad decision rap against Mallet stems from when he's under extreme pressure in the pocket. I find this hilarious because when extremely pressure Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are prone to bad decision making too. LOL..........

Anyway, I think we should take Mallet #15 to guarantee his availability and follow it up taking Stanzi 4th-5th rd if still available. Yes, I am advocating the drafting of 2 qbs this year.

Don't include me in the "we."

But maybe you'll get your wish and Ross will start doing whatever the fans want him to do. Then we can change the name of the team to Miami Redskins and change coachesd every couple of years, spend like crazy in free agency and never show ANYTHING for it. Wheee!

DB,

I don't get your logic. If you are so sure that Mallett is the answer at 15, why are you hedging your bets by taking Stanzi 4th-5th round. To me, that indicates there you have questions about Mallett, just like 98 per cent of the rest of us. What you're advocating is to take two rookies to play behind a two year starter in Henne. Doesn't seem like a recipe for success to me, with still so many other question marks on the team. What makes it worse, is the fact that if Sparano fails this year and a new guy is brought in, he's going to want his own guys at QB. Could be TWO wasted picks and not just one.

Trey,

The problem with the Shula post championship draftb years is that we were rarely ever bad enough to draft top 10. We predominantly almost always drafted mid to late rd every year.

Basically what this meant was that we could never draft those 1 or 2 impact players that would put us over the top in a championship march. During those years we were almost always 1-2 impact players away at certain positions to win a championship.

DB,

I agree with you on the Mallett front...I mean geesh who'd of thought that a QB would make a mistake with a 300 lb guy barreling down on you? I hope we take him at 15...anyway, without free agency we need to draft at least 1 QB anyway.

To be honest guys, if we're going to be looking at a QB at some point, a logical move might be to tade back and take a guy like Locker late first or early second. Yes this guy ahs accuracy problems and that's a concern but he was the consensus number one pick last year and I don't get what has changed in a year. Yes he went back and had a very ordinary senior season but the guy does have good size, good mobility and appears to have the smarts. Maybe if he's shelved for a couple of years he could be our answer to Aaron Rogers. I wouldn't have a problem with this stratgey if the team continued not to want to turn to Locker for at least another year or two.

DB'S POST @ 10;28 AM DOES MAKE A LOT OF SENSE .MOST PEOPLE DIDN'T THINK OF IT THAT WAY .

GRAIG M.... DYING BREED IS KNOWN FOR HEDGING HIS BETS .

------------------------------------

Ludicrous.

The odds are that neither will ever be a long-term NFL starter, let alone a difference-maker at the position. No sane personnell department would invest two of their first three or four picks on a gamble with such low odds of success.

The simple fact is that while Miami does indeed need toi upgrade the QB position this is a lousy year to to do it. Free agency doesn't even exist (with only marginal prospects out there) and the draft offers far more questions than answers, except for the near certainty that most of these guys will be flops no matter how much we talk ourselves into believing otherwise.

CraigM,

We dont need 1 qb, we need 2. If Hene feels he'll no longer start hear he's bolting in 2012(fa). Thigpens feels the clocks ticking out and wants to have a shot at being a starter too. It aint happening in Miami so he's bolting too.

That's why6 I say both Mallet and Stanzi(4th-5th rd). If Mallet turns out to be great and Stanzi's nearly as good or vice versa, we'll have one helluva good qb situation here. It evens gives us great trade value should we not be able to afford to them keep both in the future.

Qb's are very difficult to predict. So IMO, a great gm needs to hedge his bets at that position. Qb is a position that can bog down an entire offense no matter how great the talent surrounding him. Its the most "key position" of your entire offense and you dare not take it lightly.
