Draft Day 2011: The latest from rumor central

This is the latest from the draft/rumor/smokescreen mill at this hour:

1. QB Andy Dalton is a redhot property and despite the possibility he could go to the Dolphins, there is talk he'll actually be gone by the time Miami picks at No. 15. Incredible. I see this as a reach.

2. Still have found no one other than Jason LaCanfora (previous post) who believes Dolphins will pick Colin Kaepernick with their first pick at No. 15. Maybe if they trade out of the round, but at No. 15? Hard to believe.

3. I'm hearing talk that Notre Dame TE Kyle Rudolph is on Miami's board and a possibility at No. 15, but more likely as a player they like later in the first round as a fallback. Two people have actually told me this. These folks are NFL types, not media. Anyway, the thinking is Rudolph is a stretch the field type player even though he is not a WR. He would be a help to a QB needing a security blanket. The Patriots last year turned their rookie tight ends into very effective weapons.

4. I have confirmed that the Miami draft totem pole has changed in ways more deep-seeded than simply moving out Bill Parcells. Yes, Jeff Ireland is the general manager and makes the final call on Miami's pick. That's a switch from the last three years when Parcells had final say. But I have confirmed the Dolphins did indeed make a little-known but significant change to Tony Sparano's contract that allows him to have the most say in the draft room of any year he's been with the team. The fact is Sparano has the power now to speak up and put the brakes on a pick if he's of that mind. I assume he can also advocate for a pick. That to me is significant because, obviously, Sparano is a bigtime offensive line advocate and Mike Pouncey is a very likely Dolphins target. Does that increase the chances Pouncey gets picked? I don't know. But it is something to keep in mind.

[NOTES: Come back and refresh regularly as I'll be gathering whatever is out there and reporting it back to you here. Also, there is a live draft blog at 8 p.m. And I will be updating my twitter timeline in real time so follow me.]

Locker is a disaster waiting to happen - he's had two years to highlight himself in a fairly weak conference, and he's inaccurate to put it kindly.

If the Dolphins take Locker at 15, we'll look back to the happier days when we picked Pat White.

Isn't Andy Dalton the guy on the cover of MADD Magazine? Or maybe he's Carrot Top?

..The "rumor" that Kyle Ruldolph is a possibility makes some sense in this way..

Looking at the free agency list. Tight End is very slim, not many choices for what we need.
Ruldoplh fits the mold of what we are looking for at tight end. I would be shocked if he was the choice. But if the Phins do not think that the other tight ends on our board will be around, or we have other projections in later rounds. I suppose this makes a little sense..This whole process gets crazier up to the minute. Who knows what will happen. Nobody had Odrick as our first pick last year(go archive it...nobody)

As my close friend Jon McKay would say, "Drinking battery acid wouldnt kill this offense any deader."

Sometimes men, after coming close to emasculation, develop hidden talents.

Reporters:

Mr. McKay, Mr. McKay. How do feel about your offense's execution today?

John McKay:

"Im all for it"!

Kris,

DB might SEEM "Half Cocked" sometimes.

It might take him a minute to make up his mind.

But when he does, he's Locked and Loaded.

It's alright to be all over the map during the planning stages. Some Irish people call this Due Diligence!

When push comes to shove, you want a guy like DB manning the Uzi's!

I'm not worried about getting caught robbing banks with DB. I got a feeling when people see him with an Uzi in each hand screaming "GET ON THE GROUND", well......their going to "GET ON THE GROUND"!!!!

Bottoms Up!!!!

to Nickzi,

Are you seriously comparing 160 pound 5 foot 10 Pat White to Jake Locker? Yes, you are right that he his completion percentage wasn't the best.

But he had the most drops by recievers and absoultely no offensive line.

He was running for his life in evey game and still managed to put up good numbers.

No offensive line, and no elite recievers or even good ones.

Lockers a stud.

odinseye,

Youre right about that because I even shoot s*hit that aint supposed to be shot. Just to make sure the job gets done right! LOL.............

Odinseye,

True story, I grew up in a rough neighborhood and they nicknamed me "Awful". LOL............

Some called me "Smiling Jack Attack". Because if I walked up to you smiling it wasnt good news! LOL..........

Some weirdout named Posters here today. Freddy Chica, Mojo Mark? Who the hell are those?

Actually, Sparano having more stroke in the draft is old news. Remember the presser after the Harbaugh disaster? Forget if it was Ross or Ireland but it was said then Sparano would have more of a say.

Scary, isn't it?

I do believe there will be more wheeling and dealing than we have ever seen in a Draft. Tighten your seatbelts!

Tony Sparano should have been working for the CIA. It takes him longer to say absolutely nothing. Than anyone Ive ever in my life listened to.

Except Darryl Dunphy....

espn reported talks in the works with Pats and Cowboys for Pats to move up to #9 and grad DE Cameron Jordan.

Many People are saying that this Draft will lack excitement because of the CBA conflict. Not in Miami FL, Sir. No Sir.

If Pouncey is the real deal, draft him. All great teams in any sport are strong up the middle. Look at the best teams all time, especially Dolphin teams, and you will find Hall of Fame centers.

There are two Jordans. One's Jordan Cameron and the other is Cameron Jordan. It confuses me as to which is which. But I do know one's a TE and the Other a DE. LOL...........

I don't think that the Dolphin's Draft Board takes into consideration what any of us think or want! Instead, they have graded the players out based on performance in college, the combine, interviews, etc. And, they've assigned a number grade to each player. Most of the quarterbacks that everyone's talking about don't grade out all that well. And, almost all of them really need to sit for a year before you throw them into the fire. That's a luxury Miami doesn't have. IF the Fins have to use their #15 pick (because they can't trade down and pick up a 2nd) then it only makes sense to use it on a player that grades out at that spot or close to it. That leaves Ingram, Pouncey, or a defensive player as our first pick. Now, once we pick in the 3rd, without a 2nd, THEN we might look at QB. Provided there are some of those top 10, that should have went in the 2nd, left on the board!

Youre right about that because I even shoot s*hit that aint supposed to be shot. Just to make sure the job gets done right! LOL.............

That's what I'm talking about! If I'm the GM of this bank robbing crew, you're my first round pick!

ValHalla!

Why do we have so many negative people on the Dolphins brass? I understand the past years haven't been the brightest but, are you really a fan or not. Geeze...

odinseye,

Think there's a chance theres Viking blood running thru my veins Im totally unawares of?

odinseye,

I do get a slight woody when thinking of pillaging things! LOL..........

On behalf of the National Chihuahua Council, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

ROTFLMAO!!!!

Viking blood does that when it's running through your vein!

Seems Dalton's name is flying up the board in hours before the draft. They are saying mid 1st rd now. WOW! His hair's on fire, now he's on fire! LOL...............

...I can think of some cool things that happen when you "run" stuff through your veins!!!

DD,

Especially battery acid! LOL..........

I hope Gabbert, Newton, Mallet and Dalton all go top ten. Hell, throw Locker in there two.

That menas we could possibly get a playmaker like Prince or Jones.

The more guys that sneak into the top 10, the better our trade back options get as well.

COME ON RED!!!!

..Yup Battery acid...That's exactly what I was thinking...LOL

Pouncy or another interior OLman is the answer to the running game and to the passing game. Its tough to be a superior offense when you are routinely stuffed for -1 yd or with DL's and LB's in your face -

...I can think of some cool things that happen when you "run" stuff through your veins!!!

Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | April 28, 2011 at 05:44 PM

I'm not EXACTLY sure what you mean by that.

But I can tell you, I'm getting one of them "slight woody's" just thinking about it!

GANG OF DEFEAT MEMBERS ALL WAYS HERE DAY AND NIGHT. I AM WORKING TO PAY THERE UNEMPLOY CHECKS WHILE THEY ALL SIT ON THERE BUTS EATING PENUT BUTTER SANDWITCHES

DD,

Just make sure you get the pure battery acid. Not that weak a*ss ever ready bunny s*hit! LOL.............

oh god. please no. Sparano get to decide which OL person we should take? Andrew luck here we come.

Whoa! Whoa! WHOA!

I've shot up ACID. It's not all it's cracked up to be.

It still takes too long to get there........

I like that warm, relaxing RUSH!!!!

You ever take a warm blanket out of the dryer and wrap it around yourself when your buck naked in a cold room?

Oh Yeah!!!!

ALoco,

Great news for you. More than your guy's hair has caught fire. But Dalton is now projected as middle of the 1st rd. NO S*HIT!

I think all these QB prospects are suspect as hell and have 'flop' written all over them.

Much rather take Pouncey and FINALLY settle that OL into a solid, effective unit. A great line improved everybody on offense instantly.

They need a QB upgrade, I'm aware of that, but don't see it with these guys. Maybe Palmer at the right price.

Reaching for players in the draft has been proven dumb time after time. No reason for Miami to do it just to appease the same fans that screamed for Brady Quinn and a dozen other total duds.

how bout this thought----

1. wait til next year to draft a QB Andrew Luck

-- we will have a top 5 pick

-- you'd think with all qbs drafted this year; there won't be many teams who need qb 2012

2. sign vet qb for 2 years, Henne 1 more yr.

3. if you take a qb this yr he is basically the same as henne, you need to give him 2 years to see what he can do

there is no SURE FIRE PICK at qb, we cant afford to draft a qb who is gonna be an average guy

odinseye,

Need to stop playing around with the ever ready bunny and switch to the NAPA baby! LOL..........

MY COUSIN AMMONIA JONES BE DRAFTED BY MIAMI TONIGHT. HE GOOD.

MY OTHER COUSIN KLEENEX JOHNSON ALSO COME TO THE DOLPHINS. HE GOOD TOO.

MY COUSINS CLOROX SMITH AND LISTERINE WILSON BE GOIN IN THE LATER ROUNDS. THEY GOOD.

DR. Lecter,

I have a better idea. If things dont start out well we can all pretend we are Marlins fans!

No one even knows the Marlins are in Miami until they win a World Series! LOL...........

What's up losers?

...with the first pick of the 2011 draft the Miami Dolphins select....Guard, Univ of New Hampshire

2 years after a World Series title more Marlins stuff end up in swap shops than any team in history! LOL........

There is an elegance and verve to my lifestyle that is unsurpassed.

I am simply better, smarter, and more exciting that you. This is a fact you will simply have to accept.

Thank you and God bless.

did i say andy dalton ?

after DOLPHINS HAD ANDY DALTON FOR ALMOST 3 DAYS FOR MEDICAL TESTS ,SOME OTHER TEAM WILL GET THE BENFIT OF THAT HARD WORK ................ I HOPE IRELAND HAS A PLAN B WHICH IS .....LESHORE .

The Marlins are pretty damn good right now, and there's a LOT of young talent on that roster.

They're not even going all that cheap anymore, despite the reputation. By next season, the payroll is slated to be middle of the pack.

Th attendanc, of course, remains bad. They'll get a bump when the new ballp[ark opens next year (and it truly looks gorgeous)...we'll see if it sustains.

They'll be winning plenty the next few years, though.

BTW Tyrod Taylor, the Virginia Tech QB that broke all of Mike Vick's records is in this draft.
He'd be a good 4th round pick if he's still there.
Remember we have 1 qb on the roster and we need 3 to fill out the depth chart.

ODINSEYE ON RECORD SAYING WE WILL DRAFT.......MALLET
DB.......... SAME
0X80....... SAME
KRIS.......... SAME.........

THEY BETTER HAVE A DOCTOR WHO'S VERY GOOD AT TESTING FOR EVERY THING FROM DRINKING TO YOU KNOW WHAT .

ok with pouncey pik ... but no at 15 th ... maybe 20´s

Oh, dear. I left the bathroom door ajar and now everyone can see and smell my activities in there.

I have no problem going center 1st, RB 2nd. Our o-line is so shaky that neither qb nor rb can succeed until it is improved.

Along with the doctor, can the Dolphins also hire someone to pu a functioning brain in Ryan Mallett's head?

That kid is D-U-M-B.

If it's an unpopular choice tonight, will the fan go ballistic the way they did when Brady Quinn wasn't selected?

Boy, where they ever right about him. Quinn is definitely Canton-bound.

How's our gang of misfit fans doing??? THE DRAFT IS FINALLY HERE!!!! Let's see what happens with our number 15, I still say it's a crapshoot....you never know how the dice will roll, unless they're loaded! There is a lot of misinformation out there. I think I'm going to start drinking now.....

Locker was terrible in the PAC-10, where they don't play defense. This year's QB class is weak beyond the potential of Newton. I never heard Gabbert's name once this season, and as a college football fan, that's concerning that he's considered a top 10 pick.

Stay the course, build your o-line with Carimi (he's freakin' huge!) or go for a RB in Ingram who's going to start from day 1 and give you yards. I wouldn't waste a 1st or 2nd rounder on any of these QBs not named Newton. We've had too many John Becks already - build your line should be #1, and that will improve your run game, especially if you sign a guy like DeAngelo Williams (only 28) and draft a back in the later rounds.
