Instant gratification on Ireland press conference

Jeff Ireland must have mentioned the fact the Dolphins have only two running backs on the roster at least four times this afternoon during his annual pre-draft presser.

I think that's where they're going, but that's for another time and another post.

Ireland made the point that running backs that are successful long-term in the NFL are not necessarily late-rounders like many so-called experts have been saying. "They're going to be first and second rounders," he said.

Having said that, Ireland said he doesn't feel like he must take a RB. "I don't want to reach for a player to fill a roster spot," he said.

The Dolphins general manager was asked about quarterbacks available to the Dolphins, particularly Ryan Mallett. "I have spent a lot of time with him," Ireland admitted. "We've been very thorough about him much like we are with every player we're considering drafting. Sometimes when there's information out there you want to dispel rumors and get as much information as you can with any player out there. That's why we went through the process. He's a nice young man. Very talented kid. He's got a bright future."

Ireland was not about to shut down any possibility today. He actually said he might be willing to trade up in the same breath he admitted he's "restricted" with eight draft picks but only two in the first three rounds.

Ireland admitted the fact free agency has not happened is a factor for teams, including the Dolphins. He said it will not affect the manner in which teams set  and prepare their boards. But it will have an impact on the strategy the teams use on draft day because everyone will be trying to fill needs that perhaps in previous years they had already addressed in free agency.

Ireland sucks

"I don't want to reach for a player to fill a roster spot"......to me that scratches Mallett's name off the list. Only way he becomes a Dolphin is in a tradeback scenario.

When he says, "I think he Mallett) has a bright future"....that tells me 'but likely not with the Dolphins'. Just my interpretation of his comments guys, so don't bite my head off.

I also heard Ireland say today on PFT 'you can get good running backs in later rounds. The tells me he will look that way also'.

Trade down to the 20's and pick up a QB, or offensive playmaker, if not available then OLine help. hope we can get a real QB for the future.

our best hope is to trade down.

World Trade Center Tower 1, 2 & 7 were brought down by controlled demolition.

Checkout wtc7.net & watch the collapse videos.

Craig,

How can we bite your head off?

If there was EVER a presser that's open for interpretation, THIS IS IT.

I saw you guys talking about Todman earlier. I've seen two mocks that have us taking him in the 3rd. I think there's a good possibility he moves up to at least late 2nd round.

WHO KNOWS WHAT IRELAND THINKS ,ID DENVER WANTS TO TRADE DOWN AND CAN'T FIND A TEAM .IT MAY BE IRELAND TRICK TO GET AT NO 4 AND SELECT LOCK ..............

so basically we know as much today as we did yesterday. They might trade up or down. They might take QB or RB or something else.
Ireland knows this is his last year if the phins don't win at least 9 games

9/11,

Are you Homes?

I'm just asking. Sometimes I miss the guy.

COULD RYAN MALLET BE THE STEAL OF THE DRAFT;;;;;;;;;;

1- HIS TD'S LAST YEAR WERE DOUBLE OF GABBERT
2- HE PLAYED UNDER A SYSTEM THAT MAKE YOU MORE READY FOR THE NFL.
3-HIS NUMBERS PUTS GABBERT TO SHAME... HE WASN'T RUNING SPREAD OFFENSE AS GABBERT ,STILL HE AVERAGE 50 PERCENT MORE PER ATTEMT AND DOUBLE THE TD'S OF GABBERT .
4-HE COMPLETED ALMOST 70 PERCENT OF HIS PASSES .

5- THE ONLY PLAYER WHO CAME CLOSE IS NEWTON BUT HE DID FOR 1 YEAR ONLY .

If I hear Mark Ingram's name at 15, I'll feel the same way I felt when Teddy Ginn & Pat White's names were announced...sick to my stomach.

CAN WE SELECT MALLET AND WORK W/HIM ON HIS LIFE STYLE ?

If you can read through the lines and through Ireland(somewhat more difficult) you can see who those two or three best players are. I KNOW, but I ain't telling, no siree, no way, nada.

please,OSCAR ,TELL US EVEN A HINT .

I got my mojo working, cause I'm goin out tonight, welll......

Odin,

Guys on here are a little too quick to jump on people if it doesn't jive with their opinion on things. I've thought for a while now that the 'Phins aren't going to be taking Mallett, unless it's a tradedown and even then I have questions. This further validates that opinion for me.

Btw, very good interview from Ireland today of PFT Live. If you missed it, you should check it out. A lot of guys on here run him down but the guy's intelligent and gave a good interview without giving too much away. The altenative is to have a guy like Buddy Nix running the show, who I don't think has a clue what he is doing. I think Nix will take Newton if he's there at three (doubtful) and Von Miller if he's not.

ESPN SAYING,,,, DUE TO MALLET HANG OVER FOR THAT SICK NOGHT ,HE MIGHT DROP TO THIRD ROUND,THIRD ROUND ................ WHAT DO THESE PEOPLE KNOW ,THAT WE DON'T ?

THAT SICK NIGHT

So you all think you can predict who the Dolphins will pick ?....I got news for you all.

None of you NOSTRA-DUMMIES have a clue.

let the draft play out and then we all will know
I'll say this ,unlike most of you, I have faith
in Mr. Ireland.

later

So by the looks of things my pick of Ingram and most mock drafters seems to be the obvious common sense pick here and looks like he very well maybe in play at 15. I would not expect a QB unless we trade up, we most likely will trade back if we can, but I would be expecting us now to take Ingram if he's there for us to pick.

Ireland,Sparano and Mr. Ross sucks,sucks,sucks,sucks,sucks,sucks,sucks,sucks,sucks.

MY ADVICE TO IRLAND,,,, MOVE UP WITH DENVER AND GRAB A QB ANG GIVE THEN BRGER AS A BOUNS .

To Luis Morales, what are you ?...four years
old ?

please don't post here ever again.

Aloco,

Maybe it's Ireland spreading all the rumors about Mallet. Now that he's expected to drop to the 3rd round, we could have a shot-LOL.

Seriously, that's what I was telling DB and everyone else last night.

Regardless of the reason he missed the meeting with the Panthers. The MANNER in which he missed the meeting(having already been there and still declined to attend)coupled with all the "other considerations" and rumors, I posted that I thought this would cause yet another, further slide.

Before this last "incident" I figured he would still go in the 1st round. Now I'm not so sure.

Everybody is trying to downplay all the incidents and rumors by saying there not all that bad. That may be true, but I guarantee you it's costing this kid a TON of MONEY!

He SHOULD be a top ten consideration in this weak QB draft.

The Mallett "sick night" Aloco is completely unfair to this kid. I can't believe how many grown ups have a hand in trying to ruin this kids future in the NFL.

Lets think about this logically. First of all the Chicago paper that reported this did so without source. That means it can be completely made up by a reporter because of his unknown agenda.

Secondly lets assume that Mallett did go out the night before the meeting. How do you jump from "he went out" to "he got totally wasted and couldn't get up for the meeting"? HOW?

Couldn't one just as easily assume that he went out to eat and got food poisoning. Or that even though he went out the night before he had already had an illness that was undetected until the following day when he woke up with a fever?

Anyone who knows anything about illness knows that you don't pick up a cold or illness and then immediately start exhibiting signs. There is an incubation period for every illness including the common cold. One does not come into contact with someone that is sick and then immediately become sick. The virus takes time to work through your immune system and usually takes 3 to 4 days to gestate.

This is a pathetic attempt by some hack no name reporter to get his name in print nation wide so he can further his career. To further his career by threatening the career of another. Why are reporters able to report on things without a shed of proof or evidence? How is it that people automatically believe these reporters? Are they so much smarter than you that you automatically just take their word on everything? This is ridiculous.

Through all of this I have become a huge Mallett fan. I always root for the underdog and I would love to see him prove all of these self proclaimed experts wrong and have a very successful career. Only I hope that career is not with the Dolphins because of his immobility and footwork problems that are hard to coach out of a player who has been that way his whole life. (Think Tim Tebow)

Aloco,

Trade up with Denver and get WHAT QB?

I hope you're not thinking about the Newton!

If I traded up with Denver I would be thinking:

1. AJ Green WR Georgia.

2. Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

3. Von Miller, DE/OLB, Texas A&M

Don't know who I'd actually take at this point because I've never considered this scenario. But this would be my initial order of consideration.

The "good values" start in the third round.

This is why the Dolphins are where the are. Until we realize that the key to this offense is the OL we will always be a 7-9 team. QBs, RBs, WRs all flashy upgrades but whats the sense if you only have Jake Long blocking. Jake is good but not that good. We have one of the worst OL's in the league. And its said to say but Pouncy is not worth a 15th pick either. His brother is. What confuses me is this OL was better 3 to 4 years ago then it is now. Sparono is supposed to be an OL coach??? And to wrap it up. I can't stand people saying Ronnie lost a step. IMO Ronnie would be a big loss if we let him go or trade him. He is not done and you are not going to get someone as good as he is. Ronnie was getting stopped at the second level because 1-center 2-guards 2- tackles couldn't get to the second level to block. BTW most teams play a 3-4. That makes it 5 on 3 and couldn't block LBs to help ronnie out. What is more believable Ricky and Roniie both hit the wall or the OL sucks. I can only hope miami can pick up some veteran guards somewhere. Until then its going to be another brutal season.

I think the problem is that they do realize the o-line is important. Why this is a problem? because they've invested millions for 3 years and still need to build an o-line. Meaning our talent evaluators suck when it comes to offensive linemen. So we all realize the key is the o-line as is with any team. Tom Brady would be half as good without an o-line because he cant scramble. Lucky for him the people picking players up there are smarter than ours. And Ronnie Brown IMO is done. The problem for me is the second level blocking it's the fact that he can't out run anyone. The guy gets in the open and is constantly chased down and tackled from behind. He has lost a step and it wouldn't kill us to move on.

'the problem ISNT the second level blocking'

ODIN,

AFTER THE FIGHT LAST NIGHT WITH SIMON/KRIS I WAS UP UNTIL MID NIGHT LOOKING AND TRY TO LEARN ABOUT MALLET AND IT'S VERY INTERESTING HE'S THE TOP QB IN THIS DRAFT RE NUMBERS,TD'S.AVERAGE YARDAGE ATTEMPET AND ALSO HE'S THE CLOSEST QB IB THE DRAFT WHO'S PLAYING THE NFL OFFENSE ...

HE COULD BE VERY WELL THE STEAL OF THE DRAFT .... MIND YOU W HAVE TO HAVE SPIES ON HIM 24/7 AND DRUG TEST EVERY MO ...I GO W/THAT .

JUICE,

AGREE WITH IT'S UNFAIR TO MALLET ,IT'S TRUE ALL KIDS IN HIS AGE DO THAT .THE PROBLEM IS HE'S SUCH TALENT ,NO ONE WANTED HIM TO BE WASTED ..THERE'S ONLY ONE MALLET IN THE USA AND HE'S THE BEST QB BY FAR......... NOW HOW CAN GET THIS GUY AND PROTECT HIM ...HE CAN START RIGHT AWAY WITH VERY GOOD OL ...LET'S HOPE .PLUS HE'S HEALTHY NOT LIKE INGRAM.

Mallet and south beach sounds like a great match LOL

Give me Mallet!

ODIN,

IF WE TRADE W/DENVER,I WILL BE LOOKING FOR WR OR QB .

BOULDER,

YOU MADE A GREAT POINT ABOUT SOUTH FLORIDA AND MALLET ...HE'S COMING FROM THE ARK WHERE THEY R NO 1 IN PRODUCING PORK MEAT .THE PIG STATE .

The Mallett "sick night" Aloco is completely unfair to this kid. I can't believe how many grown ups have a hand in trying to ruin this kids future in the NFL.

-How is that unfair? He HIMSELF claimed he WAS sick! Having went downstairs to the meeting and then "opting out" is what did the damage. He claimed he was to sick to "tough out" the meeting, yet was able to make his way through ALL the airport Security measures and fly away only hours later. I don't know how many adults are trying to ruin this kid, but they should stop. He's doing a damn fine job of it all on his own! He can't even tough out a MEETING, but we should just ASSUME he can tough out Belicheats and Ryan's defenses twice a year? Come ON MAN!

Lets think about this logically. First of all the Chicago paper that reported this did so without source. That means it can be completely made up by a reporter because of his unknown agenda.

-FALSE! Bigg's initial reports quoted MULTIPLE sources. Even when considering a possible defamation suit, they/he stood by their story. Ultimately, it's a moot point. It doesn't even matter if he was out late, partying or whatever. The damge was done when HE HIMSELF opted out of the meeting. This is what peiople are taking exception with "THIS TIME".

Secondly lets assume that Mallett did go out the night before the meeting. How do you jump from "he went out" to "he got totally wasted and couldn't get up for the meeting"? HOW?

-WHAT? So far only you have made that "JUMP". The FACTS are he actually went DOWNSTAIRS to the meeting, the opted to skip it and left town. I don't know what part of this is confusing you.

Couldn't one just as easily assume that he went out to eat and got food poisoning. Or that even though he went out the night before he had already had an illness that was undetected until the following day when he woke up with a fever?

-I think people just assuming things causes problems. It's just as easy to assume the worst too, but your no better off. Unless your just making excuses, Stick to the facts. He claimed he was to sick for the meeting. Yet he wasn't too sick to make his way through all the hassles of airport security and board a plane to where ever. I don't know about you, but if it was an interview for a multi million dollar job and I WAS ALREADY THERE? Slice it and dice it brother, it still equals a BIG RED FLAG!

-So after it gestated for 3-4 days and he skipped the interview, two hours later he made a MIRACULOUS recovery and went on about his business? ROTFLMAO!

-Whats pathetic is how people keep making excuses for this kid. NONE of the reports said he was partying. NONE of the reports said he was hungover. NONE of the reports said he was being untruthful about being sick. Your obviously just trying to whitewash the facts and blur the issue. The kid had an interview for a multi million dollar job with an NFL team holding the first pick of the draft. Probably the biggest interview of his life. He was already THERE! He simply wasn't tough enough to go through with it. Ridiculous indeed!

Mallett's been my boy for ages. Make it so

Aloco,

Yesterday, I wrote a similar synopsis on Mallett regarding the aledged drug useage.

Many college students experiment with such things, but mature after graduation...it is a way of life.

Trust me, he will be so closly monitored, he'll have two shadows wherever he goes. And a penalty clause in his contract that could cost him millions.

OMG, cant believe It!

AL0CO'S NOW ON THE MALLET BANDWAGON? LOL...........

see what happens when you have blocking

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d81aa4e61/Ronnie-Brown-51-yard-run?r_src=ramp

GULFDOLPHIN, GOOD POINT RE THE PENALTY CLAUSE IN HIS CONTRACT..

I WAS SURPRISED THAT HIS NUMBES DOUBLE OF GABBERT AND HE'S THE MOST QB READY TO START IN THE NFL ........

DB,

IF YOU WERE POSTING SOME THING ABOUT HIS NUMBERS,HIS TD'S OR HIS AVERAGE PER ATTEMPT .IWOULD BE ON HIS WAGON EARLY .STILL I AM WORRY THAT HE CAN BLOW HIS FUTURE ANY TIME .

PS...... MALLET UNDER THE OLD SYSTEM HE NEVER TESTED POSITIVE FOR DRUGS BUT REMEMBER THAT WAS UNDER ARK CORRUPT SYSTEM .

OMG, cant believe It!

AL0CO'S NOW ON THE MALLET BANDWAGON? LOL...........

Posted by: DyingBreed | April 21, 2011 at 03:30 PM

DB,

Are you saying that Aloco has flipped and flopped?

Seems I remember "SOMEONE" accusing you of that recently????

LOL@odin 3:37 PM!

ODIN,

I AM NOT YET ON THE WAGON,,I NEED MALLET TO SHOW US HE'S GROWN UP.IF THAT SICK NIGHT WASN'T A DRUG NIGHT ,THE WHOLE PICTURE WOULD BE DIFFERENT .

ALSO, HE LOOKS LIKE HENNE ....THEN WE CAN CALL BOTH ..THE HENNE MALLET BROTHERS .

ALOCO,

JUST REPORTED ON ESPN, MALLET'S TOP RANKED QB ON JUST ABOUT EVERYONE'S BOARD.

THOSE OF YOU THINKING MALLET WILL BE AROUND 2ND, 3RD RD. IM NOT SAYING ANYTHING. DOUBFUL MALLETS FALLS PASS 15TH.

BET ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY WHAT THE PRESS IS SAYING AND GM'S ARE THING ARE TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT BEAST. LOL........

DESPITE THE WARTS, THE NEARER THE DRAFT APPROACHES. THE MORE APPEALING THE PROM QUEEN WITH WARTS IS BECOMING! LOL........

DB,

I READ AN ARTICLE LAST NIGHT ON BLEACHER REPORT WITH HEADLINE....MALLET STILLL THE BEST QB IN THE DRAFT BY FAR........BUT THEY SUPPORT THAT CLAIM WITH DETAILED NUMBERS ,SO I GIVE IT TWO THUMBS UP .

ALOCO,

I POSTED MALLET'S NUMBERS. AT THE TIME YOU WERE SUCH A MEMBER OF THE GANG OF DEFEAT. I UESS IT SLIPPED RIGHT PAST YOU!

I POSTED HIS NUMBERS SEVERAL TIMES. WHERE WERE YOU? LOL..........

MALLET HAS THE ABILITY TOHIT EVERY CORNER ON THE FIELD ON THE MOVE ,IN PRO FOOTBALL STYLE,HE PLAYS IN A SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS HIM TOSTART TOMORROW IN ANY NFL TEAM WITH GOOD OL ,

MALLET HAS DONE WHAT YOU WOULD ASK HIM TO DO IN THE PRO.HE ALREADY KNOWS HOW TO HIT HIS TARGETS ON THE MOVE ...................
THAT IF HE STAYS OUT OF TROUBLE ..............

THAT FROM BLEACHER REPORT .

TO HIT

IRELAN.........GO GET MALLET AND PUT A PENALTY CLAUSE IN HIS CONTRACT TO SAVE ROSS'S MONEY AND HIRE A 007 TO SHADOW HIM ALL HIS LIFE EXCEPT WHEN HE MAKES LOVE ..........HE'S A HEALTHY GUY NOT LIKE INGRAM ,POUNCEY OR ODRICK .

WORK TIME....LATER

Odin..... was never a top 10 pick......the Newton camp has seen to that...and they continue to attack to this day......

He also won't be a 3rd rd pick PERIOD!! take that to the bank.....

All rumors aside:

Here, we tend to compare Mallett to Marino, as not very mobile, but excellent in accuracy and arm strength.

That is a misnomer. If you ever studied Marino and Mallett (and Payton Manning), you will find three of the most nibble pocket passers in all football. Each has their very own gift outside pocket presence (Marino: quiick release; Peyton: keen observation; Mallett: can throw bullets and bombs off either foot, and with no foot on the ground when rolling outside the pocket.

Take a look at the link posted below and tell me if you think Mallett does not look like a blend of Marino and Peyton?
