Has Brandon Marshall been worth it so far?

It's simple and unsavory. The Dolphins are outnumbered in the number of draft picks they'll bring to the NFL draft in a little more than two weeks.

That is not up for debate.

This is: The Dolphins have fewer picks than other AFC East rivals because they made the football decision to invest their second round pick -- along with another second rounder last year -- on wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

So has Marshall been worth the price so far?

Simple question, really. Knowing what you know today, would you give up those two draft picks for Marshall today?

Marshall had a good-news, bad-news season with the Dolphins in 2010.

The good news is he caught 86 passes for 1,014 yards in his first season with the Dolphins. That led the team and was the team's most impressive season by a receiver in the Parcells-Ireland-Sparano years. Marshall was a legitimate threat to opposing defenses and often the only receiver that was double-covered by defenses.

But there is bad news, too. Marshall scored only three TDs, his lowest total since his rookie season in 2006. He played 14 games because he was injured for two others. He struggled with his hands, leading the team in dropped passes. He had a couple of on-field difficulties, including a poorly timed unsportsmanlike penalty for throwing the football at former teammate Jay Cutler in the Chicago game. He ran wrong routes more than any other Miami receiver.

And he and quarterback Chad Henne were rarely on the same page. I'm not blaming Marshall for this one. Chemistry is a two-way street. So it is up to bothhe and Henne to get their act together. Marshall talked at the end of the season how he enjoyed a better chemistry with backup Tyler Thigpen.

I hope Marshall uses his first season with the Dolphins as a launch point to better things. But what if he doesn't? We don't know. We can only judge what has actually happened.

Marshall suffers because Henne (whether through his own design or because he was told to do so) never throws to a receiver unless he is wide open. He never anticipates or lets the guy go up and fight for the ball, which is one of Marshall's strengths.

No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the House. But different men often see the same subject in different lights; and, therefore, I hope it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen if, entertaining as I do opinions of a character very opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve. I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging of the future but by the past. And judging by the past, I wish to know what there has been in the conduct of the British ministry for the last ten years to justify those hopes with which gentlemen have been pleased to solace themselves and the House. What terms shall we find which have not been already exhausted? Let us not, I beseech you, sir, deceive ourselves. Sir, we have done everything that could be done to avert the storm which is now coming on. We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated; we have prostrated ourselves before the throne, and have implored its interposition to arrest the tyrannical hands of the ministry and Parliament. Marshall is a Beast, the problem here is our quaterback sucks, he might have a strong arm, but still sucks, he is only a mediocre backup, forget about the hype of the strong arm, you can have the best rifle in the world but if you cant shoot it aint worth nothing, we have had a terrible front office for years now, we could've had this quaterback situation all ready settled, if you go way back on our draft picks since 10 years ago see how many great players we did not choose to draft, and see where the ones we drafted are now. stop selling Henne, you'll see.

Mando are you saying that if Henne had not been pulled off the field for 80 plays last season for the BACKDOOR WILDCAT that Marshall would have had even more production?

First off I have been thinking about the fins acquiring a vet QB and there isnt one worth giving a draft choice for. So I say give a "real" shot to Thigpen for the starting job against Henne (thats all Thiggy wants is a real shot). Lets see who the better QB is with a real chance, same prep, and same OL.

With the draft see if we can trade with San Diego for their 1st #18 and a 3rd (they have two). That will give us 2 3rd round picks and push us back 3 spots. Of course this only happens if a player falls that they want.

Mock draft

1st - QB Washington Jake Locker- I know there are alot of people that have him dropping on their boards but I really think he is going to play with a chip on his shoulder. Could be the next Aaron Rodgers or at least he has the same skill type. I also think Ross is going to want to make a splash in the draft to get us excited again.

3rd- OKlahoma ST RB Kendall Hunter- Has the speed and power to be a #1 RB

3rd- OG Wis John Moffitt- The pulling OG we need

4th- Mich ST ILB Greg Jones- Also athletic enough to be a OLB if needed fills 2 holes.

5th- Portland ST TE Julius Thomas- Seam TE that we needed

6th- ND DT Ian Wiliams- the BU DT needed as insurance for Soilia.

7th- Aub RB Mario Fannin

Let's do the math: instead of 80 BACKDOOR WILDCAT plays if Henne had thrown to Marshall 80 more times, with a 61% completion percentage, Marshall would have caught 49 more passes at 11.5 yards per completion, he would have had an additional 550 yards or so and Henne wold have been over 4000 yards for the season.
In that scenario instead of putting up identical stats to Sam Bradford which Henne did he would have out passed him by 500 yards.
If that were the case we'd have nothing to complain about in here other than what a mediocre journalist Mando is.

When Marshall was in one of his tirades and screamed at Thigpen to "go back to the bench" was that before or after he admitted what good chemistry he had with Thigpen?

I say we should've ALSO taken Dez when the opportunity arose. BM is one piece of several needed. The Dolphins continue to be conservative in everything they do, from drafting, to FA, to playcalling, they do it from a position of weakness. That doesn't win in the NFL. BM was definitely worth it, but if there's nothing on the other side, you get what we saw, teams doubling and tripling BM. Dez would've changed that and opened up the field. Our WR corp should've looked like this, BM, Dez, and Bess in the slot. THAT would've gotten production in chunks, plus opened it up for Ricky and Ronnie. Bottom line, I'm a Fin fan for life, but they need to get aggressive
