Live blog chat today at 1 p.m.

New week so let me tell you the newsy tidbit first:

The Dolphins are hosting a visit from West Virginia inside linebacker J.T. Thomas, according to the National Football Post. Count him among the half-dozen or so inside linebackers the team has shown considerable interest in since the interview and workout process began.

That suggest, well, the Dolphins are feeling a need to add help at inside linebacker. Now, I don't know about you, but with Karlos Dansby, Channing Crowder, Tim Dobbins, A.J. Edds, and Austin Spitler on the team, you might think the team is good at inside linebacker.

You would think wrong.

The club obviously wants to upgrade special teams, obviously wants depth because Crowder will be in the final year of his deal in 2011, and because Spitler is alright but not really great so far.

My suggestion?

Consider moving Koa Misi inside. He can play the position and the Dolphins could use a pick to add a superior pass-rusher, which is also a need. It will not happen, in all likelihood. But why not think outside the box?

I don't see Misi as a 15-sack player. I see him as a solid seven-sack player when he gets completely comfortable with the OLB job. Why not improve two positions at the same time and try to land a big playmaking pass rusher?

Just saying.

Anyway, today is live blog chat day here. We'll get it started at 1 p.m. I will hang here with you until your questions or comments are done. If you cannot be here then, leave your question or comment now and I'll answer those first.

See you then.

fin4life,

It's all good. I understand where you're coming from, believe me.

Two things right off the bat. He's a defensive minded coach and I love that. Also, he came in and right away took the wets, of all teams to the AFC championship game two years in a row. Even if you don't like the guy personally, you HAVE to RESPECT that.

If you brought Rex to Miami tomorrow you could watch me eat my words, do a flip flop, whatever you want to call it. BUT! Until you get him here, he's that DESPICABLE coach of the wets that I LOVE to HATE!!!!

Derek,

My ADHD was clouding my comprehension skills earlier.

I re-read it and THEN understood what you were saying.

I even posted an apology, which I'll do again. My bad(feeling a little sheepish)-LOL.

0x80 @7:18,

Totally feeling that vibe as well, aside from all he leaves to desire as a HC I also question his ability to get them pumped before games. They really seem half asleep sometimes before kickoff, old marble mouth TS needs help in his pre-game to his team as well because there is no sense of urgency sometimes. I really wonder what he said to them before the Jets game Sunday night in front of a packed house at home and before a National audience because we were flat !! You know what thinking about it he probably said something lame like.

K, we gotta a div. one here K can`t let these get way K, ya know 73% of the time when ya lead at the half we win K, # don`t lie K, plus were wearing da orange jerseys tonight K, we never loose in dem, so dis puppy is in da bag K !!!

Odin,

I knew you weren't saying Palmer for a one year high priced patch. I'm just thinking if Sparano/Ireland are as eager to replace Henne as Armando makes it sound they are, they will want a guy they believe can step right in and perform. Don't get me wrong, they should grab a guy like Mallet in the draft, if possible.

They are probably looking at winning as much ASAP, while not appearing as they are not looking at the future. Tough one to figure out, especially this year with the lockout.

odin @7:25,

Now that I won`t argue with but it`s why I`m really miffed people don`t get more bent out of shape with the statement Parcells made on ESPN.

Men, they will fear the mystical powers of our orange jerseys !!!

Armando, this is new.... Been hearing this for weeks. Maybe a couple months.

Darryl,

Hope your MRI goes well. You didn't mention the problem but I hope it's not serious.

I'm saying a prayer for my fellow Dolphin Fan!

Jump on board people, the Good Lord knows what's in your hearts!

AMEN!!!!

That's pretty much it fin4. I knew nothing about Sparano when he got here. I had no opinion formed. Gave him the benefit of the doubt. Initially I thought he was a straight talker, a good guy, maybe the right coach, I was on his side. I still think he is a good guy, just don't think he is NFL HC material for all the reasons already bantered about. I just don't think he is the long term answer at HC.

UT,

Great point there always harping the need to have a plan and stick to it, while trying to win now and not looking like they abandoned there own reasoning, it is a tough one to read.

0x80,

I don`t have anything against Tony Sparano seems a likeable and humble enough guy, for that matter I had nothing against Dennis Erickson when he replaced JJ at the U either but there in a business were nice guys unfortunatly finnish last because the bottom line is winning. Hey I thought it was sad the way the U treated lifetime alumn Randy Shannon, as a matter of fact it was rather classless but I understood it none the less.

fin4life,

What statement did Parcells make?

odin... I'll jump in on that... not long ago Parcells was speaking about Rex Ryan, saying he is one of the very few that truly get it, when it comes to coaching of course, he clearly admires him. So you wonder why in the world didn't he bring Rex on board in 2008?

0x80...

There is no doubt Rex is a good coach. His players like him and he can put together one hell of a D.
I don't like the endless "Superbowl Predictions" and I don't like the way he dismisses team when they beat him. 2 Seasons ago, Miami swept NY and Rex acted like he gave the games away in the post-game interview. First, we all know that idea is Bullshiznit in staggering amounts! Second, It’s a classless and tasteless way to acknowledge the team who beat you. It is a “Poor Loser” mentality.
The final thing I don't care for, is something Tony Sparano fixed. A "Head Coaching Job" is a professional occupation man. It does not look good for your team when its front man looks like he is wearing a parachute for a shirt and his pants are down around his thighs when he runs. I'm not promoting wearing a suite on the sideline. But looking like a professional coach of the worlds best athletes should be enough to inspire him as it did Tony S. to look a little more ship shape on TV. Instead of looking like a Friday Night League Bowler, with a pitcher of beer, half burned cigar, gut hanging out from shirt tail and 5 o'clock shadow... Maybe I’m being a nitpicker? Maybe no...?

I apologize to everybody if my anti-TS rant was a bummer but I needed to vent because I wanted him fired the minute the reg. season ended and apparently hadn`t gotten it out of my system. I would love it if like odin says the guy proves me wrong and I have to eat every word of this but I can`t seem to hang my hat on anything about him that sells me anymore.

Derek,

Yeah, I can agree with that side of things. Rex could be a better loser. He scoffed at us whipping him with the WC and then he turns and starts using it as well, stuff like that. Agree with your points as well. His attire is one thing, but the more that guy talks the more its just plain embarrassing really. Can't say a think coherently.

Rex has no class. That's pretty obvious.

Hence, my mention of Shula. It might not be fair to Rex to compare him to Shula, but I'll reiterate. Next to Shula, Rex Ryan is an embarrassing joke!

odin, comparing anyone to Shula is useless. Can't think of a coach with more class and character than Shula. He always told it like it was, with pride, win or lose.

Just got done watching last years dolphins/packers replay.

All i have to say is... Henne had time and looked PRO BOWL-ish! Made one bad mistake, but got screwed on a td where marshall forgot to tap his feet at the back of the end zone. Ronnie and Ricky both looked real good.

I am not sold on Henne not being the answr, with a good o-line he would be VERY good. And Ronnie and Ricky still have some left.

The future is not bleak at all!!!

odin,

He went on ESPN after stepping down last season and made the following remarks:

I had spoken before the 09 season with Mike Tannenbaum (Jets G.M.) with whom I have a very good relationship and recommended Rex Ryan to him as a strong candidate to be there new HC, REX IS ONE OF THE FEW WHO GETS IT.

The conversation was much longer but you get were I`m going. Parcells was under contract to us as our Exec. V.P. in 09 and thru 2011 really at that time, how is it he`s recommending anybody for HC much less to our biggest div. rival ?

He would go on to say "Rex called me alot for advice during the 09 season" ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!

Everybody seems to give him a pass for the statements, me if I`m Ross I`m suing his a/s for breach of contract and every other thing I can think of !! I would involve Goodell as well because there has to be something on the books against it, or maybe even franchise tampering on behalf of N.Y. and Parcells.

Once upon a time, Bill Parcells was the larger-than-life figure who saved the New York Jets from themselves, driving a hoax of a franchise to the brink of the Super Bowl. So maybe it was fitting that Parcells gave the Jets one last gift.

Maybe it was fitting that he notarized a candidate named Rex Ryan.

"I was very impressed with Rex when I met with him," Parcells said Tuesday night by phone. "I could just sense that, 'Hey, this guy's going to have a chance.'"

This was three years ago, when Parcells was the executive vice president of football operations for the Miami Dolphins and a man in dire need of a head coach. He sat down with Ryan and discovered a kindred spirit, a football lifer born in Oklahoma but one projecting that Parcellsian Jersey Guy vibe.

The success of most College players does not translate well to the NFL. That's what I understood from the Bill Parcells phone talk with Armando. By the way, great hitch, Armando.

Bill Parcells told the Jets to hire Rex Ryan
January, 19, 2011 Jan 199:53AM ETEmail Print Comments41 By Tim GrahamA few weeks ago, there was a bit of an uproar in South Florida over a report the San Francisco 49ers wanted to seek Bill Parcells' counsel regarding their organizational direction.

Dolfans didn't like the idea of Parcells helping another NFL team while he's still drawing a paycheck from the Miami Dolphins as a consultant.

Would it make Dolfans feel any better that two years ago -- while still a full-fledged executive vice president with an office, parking spot, secretary and access to free office supplies -- Parcells advised the New York Jets to hire Rex Ryan?

ESPNNewYork.com columnist Ian O'Connor caught up with Parcells to revisit that moment and other thoughts on Ryan's success. Ryan has reached the AFC Championship Game in each of his first two seasons as Jets head coach

Don't be surprised at all these great Coaches getting involved in other Sports. I remember Shula, also, wanted to coach baseball.

Joe Barksdale is a raw athlete could even move inside possibly LSU's best lineman. I think he is a 4th rd guy from what I read

fin4life....

We are all allowed to have our opinions man. I believe that last year was very disappointing also. And initially everyone was pissed that there was no post-season play to come. It sucks when it just... "Ends".

For all the frustration that was last year, it was nowhere NEAR as bad as many made out. One of the easiest way's to determine that is by seeing what pick we have in the 1st round. A team that was awful rarely picks at #15. Those teams pick between 1 and 5.

No reason to go into details, we have all exhausted that talk by now. However, had Miami done a coaching change AGAIN! It would have been very disconcerting.

Aside from talent, a team needs Stability in Ownership and Management. Managers must stay long enough to develop their vision. The idea a system should need 3 years to develop is a LIE! Perhaps 25 years ago it was accurate. Players stayed a long time. Salary caps and FA did not exist.

The endless pursuit of parity has destroyed the "3 Year lie" Forever.

Teams also need Continuity in their coaching staffs. I don't care what team it is. You keep switching Head coaches the way Miami has done the last 16 years and your team is going NOWHERE! It would have been a DISASTER to bring Bill Cower into Miami this year. Besides, Tony should get a shot without Henning and without Parcells to run his team. I firmly believe Miami is going to be a good football team in 2011. I believe they win the 3 or 4 that got away from inexperience and injury last year.

Along with players having more experience and getting healthy. Miami has Stability and continuity going for them this year. Daboll and a few others will not be disruptive like a Head Coach change.

I know, I know... It's all just "Sunshine" right? Well, It’s no different or no less or more likely then the negativity that is flying about, and it is just as easy to say and much more fun. I feel sunshine has more facts backing it up also! Negativity is based in the idea that nothing ever changes... and we all know that's not true. But to each their own… Right?

OK, Derek! It's not negativity or positivity or that everybody is entitled to their opinion. It is a stark Reality. This Team is muchmuch better than before the Parcells era here in S. Florida. It(the Team) is also young and will improve vastly. Another blunt Reality. Those are good realities.

To borrow a Jersey phrase: Parcells is a "SHMUCK"!!!!

I originally liked the idea of him coming here. But MAN! Talk about a guy just collecting a paycheck.

I think we've all worked with those kinds of guys at one time or another. No passion for their work, they don't care if things turn out good or bad. As long as nothing reflects badly upon them, they don't give a shyt, just make sure the checks properly signed.

I AM SURE WHEN I SAY WE WISH DD THE BEST TODAY WHEN HE GOES FOR MRI ,I DO SPEAK FOR ALL ON THIS BLOG INCL ARMANDO .

WE WISH YOU NO THING BUT THE BEST DD FOR YOU SHOWED US EVERY THING DONE IN CLASS AND HUMOR .

Odin, I agree bigtime about the Tuna. He got his money and rode off into the sunset. What an ass!!

WHEN TUNA WAS ASKED ABOUT HIRING REX FOR THE JETS ,TONY SPARANO JUST HAD 11-5 SEASON AND EVERY THING WAS KIND OF ROSY SO TUNA DIDN'T DO ANY THING WRONG ........ NOW YOU CAN SAY ,WHY HE DIDN'T HIRE REX FOR THE FINS WHEN HE FIRST CAME ???????

ANSWER....... HE KNEW HE CAN'T CONTROL HIM ......

ARMANDO HAS WROTE VERY NICE ARTICLE RE BILL PARCELL IN THE HERLAD FOR TOMORROW.... GO READ IT ...........

Derek4,

I`m not disagreeing with you about the need for continuity at the HC position. I rather tend to agree it`s no coincidence that the SB winners of the last 15 years have enjoyed just that. I am raising questions about the ability of TS to effectively be that guy. I have seen to many instances 3 years in, were he still has trouble being the Game Manager/Clock Manager/Overall tactician that alot of the other HC`s seem to get down for the most part this far into there careers leading the way, it`s not year 1 of the TS experiment anymore, we should expect a little better by now.

When you refer to being aloud to run his ball club without Parcells interfering aren`t you really refering to Ireland. I haven`t truely seen evidence of Parcells meddling in any Coaching decisions outside of maybe the occasionally solicited advice. Furthermore when you say he should be given a chance without Henning aren`t you indicting his ability yourself, I mean who`s the HC ?

I was simply pointing out Derek that I think we could have done better, Parcells could have done a better job of finding a qualified guy to lead the team. There is a reason even some of his more mild mannered vets showed there frustration with the direction of the team which quite frankly looked stuck in neutral at the end of last season but yes to answer your original question, everybody has a right to there own opinion, by the way you posted some time ago in the papper a piece on your thoughts regarding Team liability in the new CBA and how you didn`t think it fair that teams should be left holding the bag on that forever, tended to agree great post !

The bad Reality is we have no offence at all.

I not so upset about the Tuna's coaching selections...well let me take that back. I never liked Pasquale or however u spell it. I mean Henning did have alot of experience. Its the prototypes that drive me crazy and his refusal to acknowledge the media and the fans who paid his freakin paycheck. And when he decided break to the mold he breaks out with Pat White and Ted Ginn...what a legend..geez.

BILL PARCELL ON PAT WHITE .............. (( HE CAME AS MVP PLAYER AT THE SENIOR BOWL,A PAT WHITE FEVER SWEPT THE DOLPHIN PERSONAL DEPARTMENT AND COLORED OUR JUDGEMENT ))

ANOTHER NICE QUOTE .......... (( HE COULDN'T COMPLETE ON PASS,HE WAS A FLOP ))

ONE PASS

Well everyone thought White would be good in the Wildcat.. I gotta admit i thought so too...oh well..

odin,

I can`t believe you didn`t know about that.

If I were exposed to the Media(that shambling, opportunistic, mediocre group of People), I would stay away from them too. Yes.

Aloco 9:30

Good call on that one !!!

Aloco just read your post on Darryl, did something happen to him ?

LOL@ Oscar at 9:36

I keep flip flopping on the draft. Tonight I think I'm back on selecting Mark Ingram. Barring a trade down. At least he might add some spark to our offense.

FIN4LIFE... ,
(( NO THING HAPPENED TO DD ,HE JUST SAID EARLY IN A POST ,I AM GOING FOR MRI TODAY ,WISH ME WELL ))
THIS BLOG WITHOUT DD AS ODINSEYE WITHOUT HIS MUSIC GETAR ,AS DB WITHOUT A FIGHT.AS CUBAN WITHOUT HOT ASHLEY .

got on late but just read what armando had to say about jt thomas and, i too, had him as a later round pick to help upgrade the special teams unit. i also agree with moving misi to the inside linebacker position and drafting the elite pass rusher on the outside if we were stuck at #15. that player would be aldon smith. that's the only way i would agree with that type of move. as far as misi moving to the inside i think the transition may be a little more difficult for him than from defensive end in college to outside backer in the pros but i think, if there was a guy who could do it, it would be misi. i have to agree with armando on this one. misi is solid against the run and probably a 6 or 7 sack guy but he's not going to get the pressure from his side we need.

Got it Aloco, I was back tracking thru the posts and saw the one odin put up as well, I wish him the best along with you guys !!

fin4life,

You can't believe I didn't know it? How do you think I feel-LOL?

I do get a little embarrassed when I miss something that everyone else knows. I remember the deal with the 49er's. If I did hear about the rest of it, I was missing the context or something.

The point that SpOrano had just finished a season 11-5 is basically irrelevant.

I mean if you're employed by Adolf Hitler, you don't offer your advice and your expertise to the Western Powers.

My analogy might be extreme, but it's the way I feel. If there's not some types of NFL rules against this, there should be.

Conflict of interest anyone?

WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH FACEBOOK ?

TODAY AT WORK EVERY ONE ALMOST HAVING TALKING AND POSTING ON FACEBOOK ,NO ONE IS WORKING ANY MORE IN THE USA .

WHAT HAPPENED ?

THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO ARE WORKING IN THE US ,ARE THE FARMERS ,THEY DON'T HAVE CELL PHONES AT WORK .

Hell, everybody is up in the air regarding this Draft, including the owners, draftees, and us Fans. As to what pertains now, do the owners have to pay these rookies their asking value or is their monetary value going to change if a CBA is finalized???

odin,

I don`t think your example extreme, if I or you would look to benefit our employers competitor in any line of work, the best we could hope for would be to have our employment terminated with forfiture of any benefits. That`s the best scenario at worst we could be looking at legal ramifications the severity to be determined in a court of law. The guy is classless to say the least and I don`t get why Ross has simply swept it under the rug or has he ?

Oscar,

I got a feeling that there contracts will be up in the air till the new CBA is settled and yeah they probably will be looking at a wage scale but thats only fair, you or me go for a job and there not gonna give us top $ over proven performers.

Odin, how did the Smelt Dipping turn out?

It's official. I'm back on the Dolphins BandWagon!

I've only had one favorite NFL team my entire life. But the end of last season has been THE MOST DIFFICULT to recover from. I'm not going to go into all the reasons why, I'll just blame it on myself in that maybe my expectations we a tad too high.

Having said all that, let me say this: I for one, don't think things are as bleak as they seem.

We went 7-9 getting what seemed like every bad break possible. The officiating may have cost us a game. The special teams probably cost us two games. No telling how many games Henning MUST have cost us. Thigpen and a massive amount of injuries surely cost a game. Henne's indecisiveness and inexperience surely came with a cost.

If our D improves at all we should be able to at least pick up a game.

I think the subtraction of Henning and the addition of Daboll equals AT LEAST a game.

If Henne improves, or God willing, the light comes on for him, that should equal a game.

Straightening out the run game with a return to form of a season ago, we should gain a game.

Minus the special teams meltdown, I think we improve a game.

Lastly, with our injuries being healed, last years 1st and 4th round picks contributing and our new draft class improving us, we should be able to pick up a game.

I know that's a lot of ifs and I'm sounding like an optimistic homer. Still, if even half of these things come to fruition, we're looking at 10-6.

Slice it, dice it, call it whatever you want. It's official, I'm back on the Dolphins Bandwagon!!!!

Aloco, you are WRONG!!! Not only do farmers have cellphones, they have GPS guided tractors!!!!!

I agree, fin4life, that unbelievable price for rookies I am sure was dragging many Teams down.

Hey, odin, don't play so much electric guitar sitting down or you might also need an MRI for LBI(lower back injury).

REDSKY,

FARMERS CHECK THEIR CELLPHONS AT THE GATE BEFORE GOING TO THE FIELD TO PICK ORANGES OR WHAT EVER .

FArmers can hide between the trees and no ONE CAN SEE WHO'S WORKING AND WHO'S ON FACE BOOK ,THAT IF THEY ALLOW THEM TO HAVE THEIR CELLPHONES .

fin4life...

Nothing is more frustrating to me then posting a thought in the hopes that it is not misinterpreted. I was not "addressing" or "taking a cross view" of what you said that led to my post. I believe that your view is very similar to mine, I just think we have different causality for what is going on.

First, I believed three was one too many Rosters in the Dolphins Hen House. It seemed from the start Bill insulated himself from looking responsible for building the team, even though he did just that. By hiring Jeff Ireland he placed a guy in the managers chair, even though Bill’s job title superseded that of Ireland. It placed Ireland in the front row of player acquisition and financial strategy, it seemed. Except for the believe that exists by both myself and many others who believe Parcells to be behind at least 85% of every draft pick or FA Miami acquired.

Second, He placed a rookie in the head coaches chair. Now, you may want to call me a conspiracy theorist, but I feel that move was straight out of "Deny Everything 101"... It gave Parcells control because his young first time HC is certainly going to seek out his swami’s advice. Giving Parcells control of the compound without having to stand his watch or answer to the man when it went bad. Well played again by BP…

Wayne Huezinga was experienced and crafty enough in the owner’s game to keep Parcells Honest. Once Ross wrote the Billion Dollar Check... Parcells was a Chimp with a loaded revolver. He could tell Ross that the Dolphins needed to draft some 5 foot nothin, hundred and nothin QB out of WV who ran the spread with their second round pick and Ross would have bought it.... Wait a minute.... He DID BUY IT!!!

You would need a bunch of people pointing at Ireland to sell me on him making that pick. That pick was pure Henning, Dee and Parcells. Tony and Jeff took it in the 5 hole on that deal (and perhaps others like Merling being picked in front of DeSean Jackson)…

Parcells had all the power and none of the final responsibility. He always had the "Out Clause” he demanded should Huezinga leave. A to my thinking, as soon as it looked like it was going to be a tough year... he used it.

So, No.. I will not hold Ireland 100% responsible for ANYTHING except the decisions he has made since last August. And, yes, Tony is a young and inexperienced guy, with much to learn. This is year 4... I feel that without a CBA, removing him would have been a disaster. Should the season go ugly, which I seriously doubt, I can see the Move Mike Nolan to interim HC while booting up Bill Cowher for 2012 thing happening. Should Tony prove that he can butter the bread... LEAVE HIM ALONE!!! Don’t break up the continuity chasing "Supercoaches" that may just run back to the chair next to Dan at the first sign of trouble.

I think Bill should have been the team manager and hired a good coach. But he wanted to be something more with less true resposability and with less exposure. And for that... he is on my shyt list forever.

I hope this clarifies where I think things got rtricky…?

Redsky,

The smelt dippimg went great. We got two 5 gallon buckets full.

More importantly, were my kids. I just got full custody of my 15 and 6 year old. They moved in with me at the start of the second semester this year.

This was a great experience for them considering they were born and raised on 8 mile and Vandyke(the border between Detroit and Warren Mi).

We stayed up until 4:00 this morning cleaning and packaging smelt. Today we passed out quite a bit of it to elderly shut ins up here that just love fresh smelt.

Next week were going up to a little river just off of Lake Superior's Taquamenom Bay.
