Live draft blog begins here, now

Day Two of the draft is about to begin and two questions dominate:

Will the Dolphins trade into the second round?

As to getting into the second round, I have serious doubts the Dolphins will use their limited ammo to get into the round. That is obviously just a prediction, but I have a hard time believing Miami will invest the kind of capital necessary to come from nowhere to the the second.

That would require the Dolphins giving up their 2012 first round pick.

If the idea is for them to use their third round pick to try to move up into the second round, they still would have to yield either their fourth-round selection or perhaps the third rounder plus a high pick next year. Again, that is a prohibitive price.

I'm not saying the Dolphins would never pay such a price but ...

“I think you can always get ammunition," Ireland said yesterday abou tthe prospects of moving up. "I mean, look what Atlanta did. You always have ammunition I think. You can use your picks up until 2014 if you wanted to. We had a couple players on the board that if they fell to a certain spot then we might have jumped up, but we didn’t choose to do that.”

I wish the Miami FO watches how NE builds an organization. Stockpile picks and don't give them away for diva WRs (with serious off field issues) or reaching for players in the draft

Mallet gets to go to NE and sit behind Brady - we reach for a RB. Unbelievable - we should have taken Mallet if we are giving away that many picks to move up.

daniel thomas catches the ball very well out of the backfield and he didn't fumble in his 2 seasons as a rb at kansas st so stop with the rumours. 2nd, when it comes to backs he is 230 lbs and he runs the same 40 time as ingram and the same 10 yd split as ingram. so, the kid is a good pick for the team. this pick also says to me they are probably going to resign ronnie brown and it will be running back by committe with brown, thomas and sheets. not exactly the guys i envisioned doing it but it's what i was talking about when i said that you bring in one after another without giving the defense a break. with pouncey added to the line and now thomas in there as a back things are looking better for the offense.

I bet mallet doesn't last in NE more than a few years. As someone said once. If you're trouble when you're broke what are you gonna be when you're rich? Eight balls galore

Yep, it's either VY or Palmer now.

Greg

That was a good one (9:14) HaHA

Dear Jeff Ireland draft Leonard Hankerson now!!! Trade up for a real talent in the WR position. Stop watching 20/20 and get in the game man!!!

I hope Brady gets hurt and Mallett starts so you dumb fans can finally see what a retard Mallett is.

I'm done with this team. They don't want to get better. Same old boring, safe crap BS. I'm done. Ross has no one to blame but himself for surrounding himself with idiots.

Daniel Thomas. Love him. Big AND fast. Experienced running the Wildcat. Will tote 20 times a game. Doesn't dance his way to the line. By the time the ball is handed off, he has already decided where he is running to. Occasional fumble. Could be a Pro Bowl back in a year or two. KUDOS! Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBld17O-d8E&NR=1

Any QB will thrive in NE's system. All these idiots thinking Mallet will be great are probably the same that asked for Brady Quinn.
Has anyone of you wondered why teams in urgent need of a QB didn't select him? Seriously, Ponder, Dalton and Kaepernick went before him...Even Washington that has a serious need passed on him repeatedly.

Belichick will eventually fleece a team into giving away the farm for Mallet in a few years. Mallet will come in for some mop up duty for Brady, go 15 for 18, 220 yards and 3 touchdowns, and will all the sudden become the next Matt Cassell. (I still don't think Cassell is all that good).

i must say, i am laughing my arse off with some of these posts. Reading them are far more entertaining than watching the slew of effing commercials.

Starting QB for the Miami Dolphins number 12..opps thats retired...#13...opps that retired...#14 Tom Brady!!!

when the Dolphins win 3 in a row, all you read about in the papers is how great the Dolphins are. But let them lose two in a row, and billboards start popping up demanding that the Dolphins fire the coach. No class.

So we waste picks to move up for a back without break away speed, fumbling problems, and the inability to get around the corners on his runs..Wasnt it preached by the dolphins brass that we wanted break away speed for this team? This pick makes no sense whatsoever.Great job

one last thing about thomas is he was more productive than just about every back in the last two years with 1585 in 2010 and 1265 in 2009. like parcells said on espn you look at production with backs and thomas had the production. he also had 25 catches in 09 and 27 in '10. i have my favorites and i was getting sick to my stomach when i saw the backs going off the board, then greg little was gone and i thought we wouldn't have a chance to get anyone but thomas puts us back on the right track.

We have to get DJ Williams in the 4th!!!

SOOOOOOO all offseason we heard every coach tell us the team needs speed & big play ability. With that, they go out and draft a Guard to play at Center & a 4.63 40yd dash RB with fumble issues? Who runs upright which will likely lead to injury problems?

Holy cow this franchise is a fraud AND a mess. Whenever anyone on this team mentions speed, expect the opposite LOLOLOLOL

HELLO 7-9!

did they spend a 2nd rounder on thomas?

did they throw in a 5th and 7th?

that's 3 picks you dummys spin it however you want.

they just spent three picks on a big lumbering 4.63 fumbling machine that can't catch or run routes.

3 count em-THREE!

FIST PUMP

Shulashula (9:18)

You got that right I hardy ever post but read alot of posts. These peeps are funny.

Will Skins take Hankerson with our 79th pick?

I guess you all think the average speed in the nfl for a rb is what 4.4 speed.....get real i would bet the average is 4.6 and speedy os 4.5. i believe if im not mistaken that this kid is faster than Ingram. Im sure he doesnt have the skills as Ingram but he is faster. Wh cares how fast you run in shorts anyway. Walter Peyton ran like a 4.8 but had mad skills. Speed isnt everything. You can teach someone how to not fumble so don't worry about that.

I have a feeling we will not be drafting a qb this year. The only qb left that is half way decent is Stanzi. Unless they like Yates or Mcelroy. I would reall like DJ Williams in the 4th lets hope. But Kendall Hunter is still there too and he would be a solid pick.

Mallet went to NE!!!
\We are screwed for ANOTHER 10 YEARS, unless we can just stink so badly next year...a REAL possibility, that we can trade up with the other teams that have a QB and get Andrew Luck...or someone.
I hat the trade up to get a crummy RB that we could have had in round 3. And what's the deal with the Wildcat thing? We draft for the Wildcat?

I'm exactly Not sure of the formula regarding trade value (lousy in math...lol), but I bet we got short changed again.

I just want to SCREAM.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh

Most Phin Fans want a QB so who do you think will be left in the 4th round?

i actually like our 2 picks. we needed starters and in 2 moves we have addressed 2 major needs. what else can you ask for?

how does picking mallett address a need? a project QB who is crap under pressure. sounds like henne to me.

Hey what's up fellas?

I will be honest I wanted Mallet BAD! But fact of the matter is Sparano is coaching for his life this year. If he fails he will never get another head job again so they get the best Center in the draft in Pouncey which was a GLARING NEED and they get a productive RB Daniel Thomas who has no injury history.

1 more point all you idiots who know nothing about college football need to know Thomas is a player and his 4.6 40 yard dash means nothing. He definitely plays faster and always falls forward something Ronnie Brown doesn't do.

I like the way Miami drafted. They are clearly going veteran QB. Let's go Carson Palmer!

Well I gotta go and order my Miami Dolphins Tom Brady #14 jersey on NFL.com see yall later!!

WAY TO GO DOLPHINS! DON'T TAKE THE QB THAT WILL HAUNT YOU FOR EVER!!(RYAN MALLET)AND LET NE TAKE HIM. I'm done, no direct tv next year. , no nothing. I've had had it with this regime. (38 year fan).

NE drafted Mallet? LMAO All the blowhards in here this afternoon saying Belly stays away from players with questionable character.

Yea, by trading for Randy Moss & now drafting Mallet. LOLOLOL Miami is getting exactly what it deserves.

you can't even count to three and were going to listen to your dum apologizing

don't think so.

a guard for center, slow fumbling running back and a 4th 6th and 7th left

the bright side? It can get worse, but they only got 3 low picks to do it with.

great draft so far. I am dolphin fan, but i never been fan of total ignorance and this is what it is

MIAMI DOLPHINS AND THESE IDIOTS IN THE FRONT OFFICE ARE UNBELIEVABLE NEED A QUARTERBACK AND DRAFT A RB WHO CAN BE FOUND IN THE FOURTH AND FITH ROUND AND HAVE TWO DECENT RB IN MIAMI NOW WILLIAMS AND R BROWN SHOULD HAVE TAKEN RANDAL COBB OR RYAN MALLET FIRE THESE TWO FOOLS AND RUN THEM OUT OF FLORIDA AND DONT BUY ANYMORE SEASON TICKETS WATCH GAMES ON TV! COULD HAVE PICKED MALLET AND COBB IN THE EARLY ROUNDS!

Thomas fumbled 7 times last year. 11 career total.

That's not a rumor, it's a fact.

Let's face it guys, Sparano belongs back in the 60's, he doesn't have a clue what's going on in the NFL today. "Run First" translates as "Lose Most."

Andy,
I agree. I would have liked mallet but they needed a good RB and this guy is a player. I saw him a few times here in boulder when they played colorado and he's pretty good. Reminds me of curtis martin a little.

If DJ Williams is there I think they pick him. They were really in love with that kid. They were probly using the Mallett hype to try to hide some of their interest in Williams.

one last time! let's get it straight! daniel thomas does not fumble the football. zero fumbles in last two years, zero fumbles lost. alright!

bk,

Could McElroy turn out to be a Bob Griese style of QB?

Griese supposedly had a genius IQ (152).

Joe

I am telling you thier are spped backs out there. They just are not rated high. You can get Derrick Locke or Da-Rel Scott in the 5th to 7th round. Hell Rickardo Lockette a speed reciever with speed will not go till the 6th.
By the way all if these players I just mentioned run in the 4.0 range. They all have speed.

HANKERSON!!

Let me get this straight... We draft a center that cant snap the ball in the first round, and we spend 3 picks on a slow fumbling RB in the second round.. You just can't make this stuff up people. This is entertainment! Go Phins

HEre is the thing. If you had a choice today to take Vince young or Alex smith or mallet which would you pick?

Mallet would be 3rd on my list. I mean mallet had to transfer from michigan cause he couldn't beat out henne.
We could go out and get a good vet to compete with henne. I like daniel thomas pick more than mallet.

And there is still free agency!!

guys...the plan has always been to grab a veteran QB in FA to push Henne...Kolb or Palmer will be in Miami by the end of next week.

Tom Brady was a 5th round pick. I would be ok with the pick but giving up three draft picks for this guy is rediculous. There are many starters in the NFL which were picked in late rounds and even undrafted. I think Ireland and the fist pumper know they do not have time to groom a rookie QB so they wont even try. We are so mediocre it hurts, if you go 7-9 every year you don't get good first round picks. Sporano says we are going to be a run first team again this year with a slow, midsized rookie QB and a Rookie center? Good fukcing luck with that. I hope the mighty fists pumper does not spend all his money this year because thise season will be the last he will ever see as a head coach in the NFL. Maybe his son fist pump jr will spark whis team with his 0 years of NFL experience. I have no enthusiasm for this joke of a team anymore. Henne will join John Beck as a backup QB somewhere after he shows no progess this year learning from a QB coach with zero years experience as a QB coach. What a travesty Ross let thisd happen.

According to The Cold, Hard Football Facts:

Daniel Thomas, RB, Kansas State

Over the past two seasons as the Wildcats’ starting running back, Thomas carried the ball 545 times for 2,850 yards and 30 touchdowns. He’s also a threat out of the backfield, as evidenced by his 52 receptions for 428 yards over that time frame. In 2010, Thomas finished in the Top 5-7 in all major national rushing categories.

I'll be damned!

Skins did take Hankerson with the pick we gave them.

So much for the MVP of the Senior Bowl.

Daniel Thomas has excellent vision, makes his initial cut, and finds the open field. He does not, however, out run safeties.

There are a lot of running backs out there who are capable of outrunning anyone, but can't seem to find their way out of the backfield to prove it.

I'll take a guy like Thomas who will be able to navigate his way through an NFL front seven.

neither kolb or palmer are free agents. I think its more like VY, Alex Smith, or Matt Hasselback

how do I hate the Pats more and more???

Raiders traded their 2012 2nd-rd pick to NE for Patriots' 3rd and 4th this year. So New England now has double 1s and 2s in 2012. Again

oh yeah.. that's how..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBld17O-d8E&NR=1

Okay, I watched it... yawn. Looks like Ronnie Brown II. Doesn't really break anything even in his highlight reel. Can make the first guy miss but gets caught from behind. I'm not dismayed at the pick, just that we wasted our 3rd and 5th (who cares about the 7th?) to move up 17 spots to get him.

But, he's ours now, so we better hope he's better than his highlight reel. Didn't Parcells say the Wildcat is finished? Things that make you go Hmmmm.

Where do they go with the 4th round? It's anybody's guess but I'll guarantee it's not anybody any of us expect.

THESE FOOLS CANT EVALUATE ANY TALENT LOOK AT THE LAST THREE DRAFTS! THEY HAVE PASSED UP ON ALOT OF GOOD PLAYERS!

im tired of going thru this EVERY YEAR!!! i really hate our front office. once again we fail during the season, and then fail in the draft! one day i hope i bump into ireland somewhere so that i can let out all of this anger

Im out, just wanted to say I REALLY HATE YOU DOLPHIN FANS> THE WORST IN THE LEAGUE BY FAR> I HOPE YOU ALL SWITCH AND ROOT FOR THE PATS. The Pats will be garbage and be rebuilding for years once Tom retires. Every team struggle for a while after they lose a hall of fame QB of that caliber. So good long and F U all you fake fans.

I guess you all think the average speed in the nfl for a rb is what 4.4 speed.....get real i would bet the average is 4.6 and speedy os 4.5. i believe if im not mistaken that this kid is faster than Ingram. You can teach someone how to not fumble so don't worry about that.

Who cares about the averages? We don't want average. three guys available for a lot cheaper they run 4.2 4.4 and 4.4.

But you want to talk nfl averages?

Spin spin spin

Jimmy jam, curtis martin didn't do any of those things either. But he killed us. I hated martin.

Can we just trade away the rest of our picks to get more picks next year when Ireland and the fist pumper will be gone and hopefully have a real GM/coach to use the picks?

I'm starting to think that Ireland is a "Manchurian Candidate" GM in the employ of the Jets.

Mando said...
Jim, Jerry disappointed in how he picked up new technique and coaching and the playbook. But I believe if they use him, use him, use him, his development will come eventually.

Do we not check to see if these guys have the IQ of a Guava?

Also, I've been saying Ryan Williams since day one here. If he stays healthy, he will be better than DeAngelo Williams, Esther Williams, Edy Williams, Robin Williams, Treat Williams, but not TED Williams.
You heard it here FIRST! LOL
I'm am not well right now.
Brandon Marshall better catch 200 passes next year.

I'm not going to stick around to see if the Fins trade away more picks to moce into the end of the 3rd round.

I'd vomit.

so we only got 2 starters out of the 2011 draft?
we all know our 6th & 7th round picks are headed to the practice squad!
