« Fins privately compare Pouncey to Stephenson | Main | Jeff Ireland has his say -- all of it right here »

Live draft blog begins here, now

Day Two of the draft is about to begin and two questions dominate:

Will the Dolphins trade into the second round?

As to getting into the second round, I have serious doubts the Dolphins will use their limited ammo to get into the round. That is obviously just a prediction, but I have a hard time believing Miami will invest the kind of capital necessary to come from nowhere to the the second.

That would require the Dolphins giving up their 2012 first round pick.

If the idea is for them to use their third round pick to try to move up into the second round, they still would have to yield either their fourth-round selection or perhaps the third rounder plus a high pick next year. Again, that is a prohibitive price.

I'm not saying the Dolphins would never pay such a price but ...

“I think you can always get ammunition," Ireland said yesterday abou tthe prospects of moving up. "I mean, look what Atlanta did. You always have ammunition I think. You can use your picks up until 2014 if you wanted to. We had a couple players on the board that if they fell to a certain spot then we might have jumped up, but we didn’t choose to do that.”

I swear these guys running the Dolphins are morons. Ireland and Sparano can kiss their butts good-bye after this season.

Bring on the UFA's!

ok, the best way to deal with idiots is to smack the facts, that is right, the facts right in their face. According to NFL stats, Thomas has no fumbles, so those spreading around crappy info, CUT THE FOKING CRAP already. You are acting as stupid fools who don't know jack. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=487957

Remember...Mandy thinks Jeff IRELAND is a rising STAR! LOL

dj williams!!!!!!!!!!

They should have picked Iupati last year for their o-line (instead of trading down).

I realize it's hindsight but we probably wouldn't have been 7-9 and no need to pick o-line with this year's 1st round pick

I meant rookie RB

ESPN (espn.go.com) stats:

Kansas State running back Daniel Thomas raised a red flag with seven fumbles last year and 11 for his career. Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter fumbled twice last year, but 10 times in his career.

If we can get DJ Williams in the 4th will be okay with the picks. So far have been 'safe' in area of need. Didn't have the ammo like NE to take a flyer on a player like Mallet.

I think (I realize I'm in the minority) that Henne bounces back this year with a new OC and some additional help along the line. Pick up a veteran QB to push Henne and add speed in later rounds at WR/RB.

Sorta like Mando's Post...

I am "privately comparing" myself to John Holmes.

People have got to quit slobbering all over Bellicheks member. Seriously, they have all these picks every year, and pick average at best players high. Outside of Mayo, who was the last GREAT player taking by the Pats? If they are so smart, why do they pick DB's high every year, along with LB's, only to do the same thing the following year because they bombed. Aaron Hernandez was a 4th round pick, Woodhead was cut by the Jets. Since Pioli left, they haven't done jack in the draft besides trade back and get more picks for next years draft. And, for as good as they are, they haven't won a ring in 6+ years. Bill is the best coach in the league, no doubt. But personell wise? Seriously, what am I missing?

CALL THE OWNER AND TELL HIM YOU ARE NOT BUYING ANYMORE TICKETS TILL HE FIRES IRELAND AND SPARANO !

Hankerson to Washington with our former pick....arghhhhh!!!!!!!

Do the Math???? If you take the second pick and trade it with the third. It is still one pick? We didn't aquire or lose anything more then a 5th and the 7th. We were still in essance using one of the picks on a running back. So in reality we gave up our 3rd for a second, and gave away only 2 picks...That is the math.

In addition we aquired a running back that is built to carry the load. Something that needed adressed. If you have a problem trading away 2 picks that is fine. But again we filled a need, with a good player. We are not a flashy team, deal with it. Is it the right way to go about building a team? We will see. I can put my own ego aside here as my ego does nothing for this team. Before screaming bloody murder because we didn't select your favorite. Lets see how this plays out..

WOW SO WE COULDVE HAD INGRAM AND MALLET

INSTEAD WE REACH FOR POUNCEY AND THOMAS

I GUESS THAT GUY ROLY MIGHT HAVE HAD AGOOD IDEA WITH THAT STRIKE

WOW UN FRIGGIN BELIEVABLE

BoulderFinFan,

I like the Comparison to Curtis Martin. Martin always fell forward and had deceptive shiftiness to his game. I like Miami's draft alot and who cares about the 7th rounder in that trade. They have 3 of them who probably won't make it past first cuts.

Henne would become the 2nd string QB if McNabb, Young or Palmer are brought in to compete.

Thomas was the 2nd best brusing back in the draft. He is the typical size(230) pounds that this regime likes. He also was an exQB which means he may be able to throw from the wildcat.
It comes as no serprize to me that they drafted him. How many if you have been a Dolphins fan for the last 3 years. If you have you to should not be serprized by the pick.

NOT THAT I DONT LIKE DANIEL THOMAS AS A RB. IM PISSED IRELAND MAY HAVE GIVEN UP A 3RD, 5TH, AND 7TH RD PICK JUST TO SOOTH HIS EGO.

IRELAND JUST WANTS TO GLOAT HE RECOVERED A 2ND RD PICK. BUT HE GAVE IT ALL AWAY FOR A "GLORIFIED" 3RD RD PICK. iT WAS THE ABSOLUTE BOTTOM OF THE 2ND RD!

I DONT GET GIVING UP SO MUCH FOR THAT!

I think it's PALMER! The Bengals clearly are ready to move on with Andy Dalton. Would they rather see Palmer retire or trade him and get something for him?

You guys heard it here first. Carson Palmer!

THINKA ABOUT IT INGRAM MALLET WE COUDLVE ADDRESSED THE LINE WITH FREE AGENCY

I don't know where anyone is coming up with these fumbles, but they NEVER happened. ESPN player profiles, RotoWorld, CBS Sports, all of them show the same thing, Thomas had ZERO Fumbles in 2010.

i think most people on here are cnuts!

INGRAM MALLET WOW I JUST DONT GET THESE GUYS

SHOCKING IM GOIN TO HAVE TO CHANGE MY BLOG NAME CUZ I DONT HAVE ANYTHING ON THESE FOOLS

DD,

A BOTTOM OF THE BARREL 2ND RD PICK IS NOTHING BUT A "GLORIFIED" 3RD RD'ER. WE STILL COULD HAVE GOTTEN A GOOD RB IN THE 3RD.

WE TOTALLY GAVE AWAY THE 5TH.

Darryly Dumphy,

You are the only one thinking clearly! Miami swapped a 2nd for 3rd and threw in the 5th to move up! The 7th is nothing guys.

If Miami gets a speed WR or a TE I will be very happy with this draft. Because again once this CBA gets resolved Miami will go VETERAN QB

I can't believe what they're doing. Whatever happened to drafting for SPEED? What happened to making an exciting, explosive offense? This draft isn't offense...it's OFFENSIVE! Screw you Dolphins! I've had ENOUGH!!! Morons! Idiots! Destined to be behind the Patriots and Jets FOREVER! You sorry POS's!!!

Glad the Patriots draft has become much more important than what the Dolphins are doing. Darn the luck that I wasn't just born in Boston and raised on chowda'.

I'm hoping for a 1-15 season so I can see that that Short Fat New Jersey C**kSu*king Fa**t get fired. When Parcells left the owner should have cleaned house like he started to do. This is just like J.J. sticking us with Wanny after he left and put us in a hole for years. F Sparano F-ing Penguin.

Hey stinkyoldfart look at some other ESPN stats they don't show any fumbles lost for any RB's or FB's so your theory is incorrect.

Oh no...We suck again!

knowing us, we probably wont get a FA QB either... we'll just settle for what we have now... F**k Us!!!

The problem with the draft, is fans get sucked into the hype machine with all these mock drafts, Mel Kiper, Mike Mayock etc. Then come draft time, someone becomes a 'reach', or someone would have been there because he was a 'projected' lower round pick. The reality is, these guys don't work in the NFL for a reason. Not saying they aren't good at what they do, they just aren't as on point as most teams are. There is always a handful of guys that are projected 2nd-3rd rounders, and drop to the 5th-6th round.

Destined to be behind the Patriots and Jets FOREVER! You sorry POS's!!!

GO BE A MASS-HOLE THEN! GOOD RIDDANCE!!

we should throw in our 4th and 7th to move up and grab DJ williams before the 3rd round ends. cant afford to miss him. that would be 3 starters. cant beat that.

this just in - big mondo finally finished first sentence for internet article - only took 34 minutes - should be done with article and back blogging bytime draft resumes saturday

exactly, they don't show any fumbles for o9 or 2010..that is what i said so what's the beaf?

We got a zillion holes to fill and we use 4 picks on a guard to play center and a slow running back. Leaving us with 3 lowly picks to fill out our needs

I'm not knocking Thomas, I'm knocking Ireland smug I'm stupider than everybody attitude.

I honestly don't think Thomas is much if any of an upgrade. I know he wasn't worth the 3 picks he cost us.

Wonder if Thomas already feels the pressure of 3 picks?

Wonder if Pouncey likes the comparison to Stephenson.

Way to start the psycho warfare on the new young talent. At least they won't have to put up with Henning blaming them for not executing.

DD, YOUR MATH IS ON POINT

BUT INGRAM COULDVE DONE A BETTER JOB AND WE WOULDVE HAD A QB FOR COMPETETION FOR HENNE

WE COULDVE ADDRESSED THE LINE IN FREE AGENCY

INSTEAD WE GET A SLAP TO THE FACE FROM OUR DIVISION RIVALS AND THEY DRAFT MALLET WHEN THEYRE MORE THEN GOOD WITH THEIR QB SITUATION

IM GLAD THAT YOU GUYS LIKE TO SEE THE POSITIVE IN ALL OF THIS BUT COME ON DUDE AND SOME POINT WE HAVE TO STEP BACK AND ASK WTF?? IS GOIN ON HERE

THOMAS WAS A SLIGHT REACH

WE BARELY HAD PICKS IN THIS DRAFT TO BEGIN WITH

BTW 3 ROUND IS ALMOST OVER ;)

Vince Young's style of play reminds me of Doug Williams in his early career with the BUCS.

He probably has more upside than Palmer or McNabb but I think the Fins will go after Palmer or McNabb. With an improved o-line any QB will do better.

big mondo - you would look sweet if you had omar kellys pimp hat

Guys I cant wait to you all slobber over how good Thomas is. Don't knock him. Knock yourselves for only knowing about 20 total players in the entire draft! You guys are the worst when it comes to football knowledge. You guys only know the big names and read about the rest, how about WATCH the game and then say I don't like a guy because of THIS: and then give a reason. But dont sit there and say "he ran a slow 40" or "he has fumbling problems" or "he can't catch the ball"

For all you stats who just look at stats and 40 times look at this

Thomas was 7th in the NATION in total rushing and 5th in rush TDs. He did all this for a team who had ZERO pro prospects outside of himself on offense!

Dying..I posted that if anyone has a problem with the picks we gave up it is understandable. But in the big scheme of things we have talked about finding 2 starters. We have done this. I call this a success. If people have a problem with the picks I'm not going to try and talk anyone into the reasoning. We found 2 starters, 2 guys that are going to play a lot of snaps. What more can we ask for?

Fins might actually have some decent choices at #111.

Lot of good guys still out there:
QB Ricky Stanzi, Tyrod Taylor, Pat Devlin
TE DJ Williams, Virgil Green
RB Taiwan Jones
LB Quan Sturdivant, Casey Matthews

darryl

math. 4 picks two plyers

be honest. do you see this 24 year old running back we spent 3 picks on as a major upgrade over Hilliard, Brown and Williams?

Be honest, do you see him as a little upgrade over what we;ve akready got?

Be honest now, is he even an upgrade at all?

I'm tired of all the apologees and spin. So tell me honestly!

goodbye and good ridance to brown the bust and ragWEED ricky

I see this as a good pick for a number of reasons:

1) We filled a huge need
2) We were able to move up 17 spots that put us ahead of NE who, took 2 rb's after that
3) We don't have the luxury of multiple picks like NE so we cannot afford project players like Mallet. Plus look at all the other teams that passed on him. Our picks HAVE to count and I believe that Pouncey and Thomas, if they stay healthy will be starting in 2011
4) Now, lets hope we can get DJ Williams in the 4th
5) Use the 6th rd pick on a speedy WR/RET
6) use the final 2 picks in the 7th rd for DEF/ST players

Just my 2 pennies worth...

AMAN!

i feel like shooting a stinky old fart and letting it linger in the air; its aroma permeating the the nostrils of Jeffy and Tony,,,,,,,mmmmmmmmmm Aaaaaaroma~~~~~~~~

Little worried here about the Falcons pick. Gonzalez is old. Hope they dont take DJ Williams.

Pouncey,

I see Thomas as a HUGE UPGRADE over them 3 stiffs. Facts are Ronnie is DONE. He didn't average over 4 yards a carry in any game past game 4! That is ridiculous. Ricky is on his last legs. He can't produce as a starter and be that bell cow. And are you freaking serious with throwing Lex Hilliard? What a joke. Thomas is going to be a very good player for Miami. It's a shame I wish you guys had a clue and actually saw him play.

PAT WHITE all over again...

you stoopid retards , we gave up everything for this nobody !!!!! while Ryan Mallett was right there !!!!

It takes more skill to be consistantly below average than consistantly average. One must make an effort to be this bad in the draft. Once again, the Phins are a train wreck that I simply can't turn away from. Sporano has his revenge.

You are the only one thinking clearly! Miami swapped a 2nd for 3rd and threw in the 5th to move up! The 7th is nothing guys.

Wow, someone here is actually dummer than Ireland

compensatory picks are meant to be wasted. 7th are NOTHING. Hey maybe bellicheat will give us all his 6ths and 7thss.

or he might try and find another Brady with one.

thats the pats though and were the phins so we can just give em away. they don't mean nothing

i smella cheese.....hmmmmm ooooops it's me

is thomas really 24! crap we'll barely get 5 seasons out of him.

I know everyone is clamoring for speed, because the owner said he wanted an explosive offense. What we really need is scoring. Our offense couldn't score in the red zone. Daniel Thomas scored 30 rushing TDs over the past two years. That is red zone scoring! Now he's going to run up the middle behind the best center in the draft. It might not be flashy, but it makes the difference in tight games like we had last year.

Also MUST SIGN tough veteran QB Vince Young

Nice compliment to our revamped RBs

Go Phins!

First off Palmer isn't a and won't be a free agent sorry. So you can kiss that pipe dream good bye, he still has a year or so on his contract and Cincy isn't going to cut him.

Vince Young, really, you would rather have the crybaby side arm wuss over Ryan Mallet.Maybe we do have the stupidest fans in the league. This guy is a loser and should the the Fins even think that I'm taking my 30 years of loyalty to the golf course on Sundays.

Kevin Kolb is the same as Palmer, under contract and going to cost picks. Then again our retarded front office would trade the 1st pick in next years draft to get him, he'd get hurt, we'd lose 14 games and miss out on Andrew Luck because we traded the pick.

Sparano and Ireland are clearly in over their heads and it looks like another dreary fall of watching the Pats and Jets fight for the playoffs while we safely go 8-8.
