Mark Ingram has clean bill of health

Alabama running back Mark Ingram, soon to be a first-round pick in Thursday's NFL draft, does not have any significant knee issues teams should worry about and to prove it, he's offering them a letter from noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews saying as much, according to a source familiar with the letter.

So much for that pre-draft rumor.

Further disproving the talk that the former Heisman Trophy winner should slide -- perhaps all the way out of the first round -- is the fact he was not asked to return to Indianapolis for a medical recheck for any reason, a source said. Potential draftees with medical red flags are often asked to return to the site of the Indianapolis Combine for rechecks so doctors can report the findings to interested teams.

Ingram is in New York since Monday and will be among the 25 players the NFL features on its draft show, which airs on ESPN Thursday evening. Players selected for such duty are typically considered first-round picks.

The clean bill of health is important to the Dolphins. Ingram is prominent on the team's radar because of his obvious talents -- having been named the Heisman winner in 2009 -- and because he would fill a dire need for Miami at the running back spot.

The Dolphins have only two running backs signed to contracts and both of them -- Kory Sheets and Lex Hilliard -- are unproven.

So where did this knee rumor begin? Well, Ingram did miss games early in the 2010 season because of a knee injury suffered in August.

On his way to the Heisman Trophy and a BCS title, he rushed for 1,658 yards and 20 touchdowns as a sophomore. Last season, he missed two games because of the knee injury and rushed for 875 yards and 13 touchdowns.

When he ran a 4.62 time at the Indy Combine, teams wondered if Ingram's knee where the reason. The medical reports apparently say otherwise and Ingram did improve his 40 time during his Pro Day workout when he ran 4.53.

Assuming Ingram does indeed hold a letter from Andrews vouching for his knee, that is a valuable piece of paper because teams general regard him as a credible and highly regarded source for medical information.

When, for example, Dolphins team doctors told Nick Saban that signing Drew Brees was a major risk based on his shoulder injury and subsequent surgery, Andrews sent the team a letter guaranteeing Brees would suffer no ill effects from surgery on his shoulder.

The Dolphins went with the opinion of the doctors over Andrews. Brees went to the New Orleans Saints, suffered no setbacks and has missed no games because of the shoulder, and is today among the NFL's elite quarterbacks.

RB Daniel Thomas is still great value #62 2nd rd.

Here's My Mock After Bears Tradeback scenario:

1. Ryan Mallet #29(Bears)
2. Daniel Thomas #62(Bears)
3. Taiwan Jones #79
4a Virgil Green #111
4b Mario Harvey #127(Bears) ILB
5. Steven Burton #146 WR
6. Ricardo Lockett #179 WR
7a Noel Devine #217 All Purpose
7b Greg McElroy #219 QB

So as you saw above, this Bear tradeback can be manipulated or flip flopped as to what's done with the 1st and 2nd rd picks.

Trading down with the Bears gives us great flexibility with picks 1 and 2. Bears desperately need a quality LT, moving up to #15 is well within their best interest.

Worthy of giving up a bottom rd 2nd and bottom rd 4th rd pick to do so. If you dont believe me see Jay Cutler playoff injury.

With this mock you could take Ryan Williams or Leshore at #29 1st rd. Especially if reports Mallet could fall to top of 3rd rd. Then we could take Mallet #62 2nd rd. Two slots before the 3rd rd begins.

This mock is flexible and it addresses everything except oline. Oline can be manipulated in 2011 moving certain guys around.

Anyway, we get 2qb's, a power and speed rb, a seam threat TE with very high upside. Then Crowder's replacement "Mario Harvey". He's big, faster than Crowder, a run stuffer, and known as a great blitzer in the middle.

I even added 2 speed wr's because you never know if Marshall's wife stabs him again before season's end. What more could ask for with this mock?

Hey Dying, what did you think of the latest Bleacher Report's mock?

cocoajoe,

Havent seen them, post me a link.

bleacher report is a rag with artiles written by people who wouldn't know a football if it was stuck in their a$shole.

DB, I still believe they will address the QB position in FA once the lockout is over.
We NEED a real back up to Henne and we all know thigpen is not a starter....
...So I suggest we grab the true playmaker in Mark Ingram @ 15 then get a QB project somewhere in round 3.
Kolb & Palmer would press Henne in camp and we have a nice rookie QB to groom if none of the above work out in 2011.

STEVE,

IF WE SIGN R.BROWN AND R.WILLIAM ....NO FANS WILL UP AT THE STADIUM .

EVEN THE SS HAS 3 POSTS ABOUT THE PASSING GREAT JIM MANDICH ....

NHFINFAN,

IMO, we need to be developing "a real" qb behind Henne. Not bringing in other teams "castaways", "unprovens" and "tail enders".

Been over a decade post Marino. This method hasnt worked yet.

Justin,

You were doing good and then like many, went to far.

Every president has to prove he was born in American. Standard procedure, white or black.

To be fair, white y didn't cause this problem.

Obama's own Grandmother caused the entire snafu by repeatedly going on TV and telling everyone that would listen that he was born in Africa.

I grew up in Detroit where more policemen are African Americans than White.

Look at the entertainment industry in America. African Americans are thriving. Look at the business world, it's the same. Why an African American was even elected President.

Come on now, please tell me you're not one of those types that will hide behind anything too point a finger and cry racism!

Dying, go back to my 5:28pm post on pg 1

ODINSEYE:

I DON'T CRY ONLY FACTS.

THE FUNNY THING IS I COULD CARE LESS ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.

HOWEVER I AM A TROUBLE MAKER AND WANT THOSE THAT DOUBTED TO ACKNOWLEDGE BUT THEY WON't.

SO I WILL GO ON.

GOD BLESS US AND EVERYONE ELSE.

ODINSEYE:

ONE MORE THING.

I WOULD LOVE FOR EVERYONE TO LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND BE HONEST WITH THEMSELVES.

Cocoajoe,

They have Bears selecting Derrick Sherrod LT. Bears could do much better trading up to #15. That's why Im believing Bears may be best "realistic" trade scenario to gain a 2nd rd pick. With the "value" system we may even poke them for thier 4th rd pick(#127) too.

Anyone dont believe the Bears "desperately" need a quality LT, need look no further than the 2010 Jay Cutler playoff injury.

So I will be a little surprise if we truly pick at #15. I'll bump my head for joy on the ceiling if the Bears become our tradedown partner.

Nearly every mock Ive seen has the Bears taking LT Derrick Sherrod at #29. They can do much better sitting at #15.

I WOULD LOVE FOR EVERYONE TO LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND BE HONEST WITH THEMSELVES.

Indeed!

It would make the world be a beautiful place!

Honesty and truth is a powerful thing!

I have a dream Justin, I have a dream..........

Amen, Justin.

The "race card" IS used too often and in too many unfortunate ways. But to say that none of this "birther" nonsense and some of the other idiocy leveled at Obama has NOTHING to do with base level racism, ignorance and fear of the 'other' flies both in the face of American history and sheer common sense.

People want to criticize his politics and policies, that's fine. Even as an overall supporter, I share some of them. But nobody can tell me some of this other brain-dead garbage doesn't originate in a very dark and ugly place in many hearts.

Not to mention the fact it's pretty sad that the White House even felt compelled to respond to the cave-dwellers among us.

Fair enough Dying. I do believe we stand a better chance picking up a 2nd third rounder than getting that 2nd back tho.

i still us trading down at least twice in the first, picking up more picks in other rounds, and maybe even trading completely out of the first with denver. denver has the #36 pick, the fourth pick in the 2nd rd and another 2nd besides. after looking at what they did last year i wouldn't be surprised to see them want to try and move back up into the end of the first and get another player. they may pick defense at the top and take an offensive player at the end of the first.
as far as our trades go we could possibly trade with philly first and then chicago. if we do that we can end up with two 3's and two 5's plus a 2nd. if we trade down with denver we can end up with another 3rd. so we would then have two 2's, three 3's, a 4th and two 5th's.

DB,

I think the Bears could be in need of help all across the defensive line as well.

Julius Peppers ain't getting any younger and I think something happened to one of the tackles too.

They could be wanting to move up for Cameron Jordan or one of the other defensive lineman.

when we talked about it last night, a couple of peopl said the bears would never do it. I agreed at first. Then i thought about it some more.

We could maybe throw in one of our 7ths to make it more enticing and get their 4th as well.

25.5 and counting DOWN.

Tick-TOCK! Tick-TOCK!

Oh MAN! I think the clock is SLOW!

The fly in the ointment with moving down is the likelihood that some of the teams drafting immediately prior to Miami probably want to do the same.

Obviously, if they can offer a little better draft position at equal cost that's where the 'trading partner' will go. Sweeten the pot? Well, then you run the risk of the Dolphins not getting enough in return.

Not gonna be easy. Sometimes what a team wants to do and what they can ACTUALLY do are two different things.

We'll see.

Odin..Alright here is what I would do if I were GM..Thank Goodness I'm not. I will post my "What would Jeffy do" mock below this one.
I would trade our 15 to San Diego for their 18, and their 82nd giving us two thirds.

18 Andy Dalton QB
3rd Tawain Jones RB
3rd John Moffit c/g
4th Virgil Green te
5th Nate Irving ILB
6th Alex Linnenkohl C
7th Mario Butler CB
7th Ricardo Lockette WR
7th Jimmy Wilson SS

That was my smoking rock on a burned matress, out of money searching through the carpet to find something draft.

My real one was this
1 Pouncey C/G
3 Stocker TE
4 Colin Mcarthey ILB
5 DaRell Scott RB
6 Greg Mcellroy QB
7 Ricardo Lockette WR
7 Jerron Johnson SS
7 Mike Pearson G

I guess mando didn't like Jim Mandich. No mention of the greatest dolphin broadcaster

If we don't trade down to get a extra pick we darn sure better take Ingram or the Patriots sure will and use him to pound the football down our throats! We need a workhorse running back that has the leg strength not speed to get that first down and wear the defensive lines down. This will open the passing game. Go for a qb in later rounds, best available. We don't need guys with character issues especially in a enviroment like South Florida.

REPS AND DEMS REMIND ME OF BLOODS AND CRIPS.

IT DOESN't MATTER WHO's RIGHT OR WRONG IT's THE INNOCENCE THAT GET HURT.

JUSTIN,WHAT WERE YOU DOING UNDER A BRIDGE?

These is my mock as I would do it, not what I think Ireland will do. I guaged the rounds by the SI round projections.

Basically I am not trying to cover all bases with the draft, just make the offense more dynamic with youth. I'm leaving the D for free agency.

1. RB Mark Ingram (Looked close at Leshoure and Williams, neither looks nearly as good to my eyeballs)

3. TE Virgil Green or DJ WIlliams (coin flip, whoever is there)

4. G Zack Hurd (Forget Pouncey in the 1st round and take this guy)

5. RB Mario Fannin (wt 231, 40 time 2.38, my idea is he drops some weight and runs even faster and more elusive just like Ricky did when he came here, excellent pass catcher)

6. WR DeMarco Sampson (decent speed, tough, strong handed receiver, what they wish Patrick Turner would have been)

7abc BPA

JUSTIN,WHY WERE YOU UNDER A BRIDGE IN THE FIRST PLACE?

ALOCO:

IN MY TRUCK DRIVING PASS I SAW HIM AND PULLED OVER.

DB,

I like your mock @5:55 although I really don't get the warm and fuzzies about Mallet. I don't have a problem with the Dolphins reaching for their fave 2nd tier QB in the first because they must have some insurance behind Henne.

They really need to get the trade down done though because I don't think they can afford the luxury of reaching without a 2nd rd pick.

I'm obviously no expert on the matter though as my 1st rd choice last year was Brandon Graham. I tied with the Dolphin's brass with a wounded pass rusher...lol.

Justin.....your act of charity are very honorable.....and best of all they come from they heart.....and not from a person looking to get a tax write-off......

OK.....back to football......

Kris,

We may disagree on Mallet, but we do agree on SOMEONE else, wink, wink!

Discrimination is no longer based on Black or White, it's all about the color of MONEY!

Kris,

None keep all their promises, at most just a few. You just don't elevate to President, CEO, or Hedge Fund Manager without being a con man. Impossible to get there being straight up and honest....corruption is fierce and so is the competition. Business is cold and shrewd. All's fair in love and war and politics and business. Every major corporation has broken or abused countless laws, or lobbied the government to simply create new laws in their favor. Why do companies get a tax break to offshore jobs? Who ok'd that? The government makes money off taxes, yet gives a tax break encouraging companies to offshore jobs. The corporate lobbyises simply grease the right palms and get laws passed that help big business at the expense of the general public. Welcome to America.

Humans are not capable of governing themselves honestly, never have been.

Back to football.

Your right Odin......and I'm not green enough......

80% of the US are just "Sheeple" As Home would say,10% arnt interested and the Other 10% could care less....

why a hedge fund manger IS A CON MAN IF THE LAW ALLOWS HIM TO WORK AND THE DONKEYS GIVE HIM MONEY TO INVEST ?

0x80.....I agee with EVERYTHING you said.....but that doesn't make ANYTHING you said right......

the question is this.....when will ENOUGH BE ENOUGH?????

When will you and me....and everybody else stop allowing ourselves to be swindled and take to the streets ......

When we we stop saying "its ok to run on lies"...we won't hold you too it.....

This country was hijacked a long time ago....and not by a black man....but by bankers....who see nothing but GREEN......

They (polititicians) are responsible for the collapse of this great company....dems and repubs......

They steered us in to this mess.....vote them all out....and start over.....
