The NFL draft is finally here and this blog is a-live!
So do the Dolphins go with the primetime pick in this primetime draft? Do they trade back as I've been told they are trying to do? Do they pick a quarterback?
"A quarterback makes sense if and only if they think a FRANCHISE quarterback is there," Dan Marino tweeted today. "Otherwise, I am firm believer in taking the Best Player Available."
So whom would the man once hired to lead the Dolphins franchise -- he quit two weeks later -- consider the franchise quarterbacks in this draft?
"With my CBS gig I spend more time watching the QBs on Sunday so it wouldn't be fair for me to say if a guy is or isn't a franchise QB," Marino followed with another tweet.
The national insider types are reporting there will be a run on QBs in the top 12 picks. We'll see about that. Aside from the QBs, here are some names I'm going to ask you to keep in mind:
Alabama RB Mark Ingram if they do not trade back.
VT RB Ryan Williams if they trade back.
Florida C Mike Pouncey if they do not trade back.
Purdue OLB Ryan Kerrigan if they do not trade back.
Kansas State's Daniel Thomas if they do trade back.
I'm rooting for the trade back. OK, meet me in the comments section. Let's go a-live!

It's not the most exciting pick but some of you are straight up morons. A great offense starts with a great offensive line. We have 2 pro bowl offensive ends, now hopefully the center will be as well.
Solid pick.

Don't forget Nate Gardner...he was a solid player before he got hurt.

In the 3rd round, the Miami Dolphins select the speedy.....
OG DeMarcus Love!
After all, we haven't spent TOO many picks on the Oline, right?!
This is collateral damage from pursuing Harbaugh. Sparano's extension gave him more say over personnel and, being an Oline 'guru' (insert huge laugh here), he talked Ireland into picking Pouncey.....HUGE surprise, NOT!!
Posted by: Matt | April 28, 2011 at 09:53 PM
Some people just think football is giving the ball to a speedy guy and see him run for a 100 yard td... This is not madden
Posted by: jtlawson5 | April 28, 2011 at 09:53 PM
Dolphin in mont, they have Tom fang Brady.!!! Are u serious?
Posted by: jrljr2 | April 28, 2011 at 09:53 PM
We also picked Ginn with what, #7, 9, we all see how well that turned out with all his "speed". Speed can be found later in the draft. All levels of football are won and lost with the the o and d lines. Smart, solid pick. Not flashy, but solid.
Posted by: DolphaninNJ | April 28, 2011 at 09:53 PM
>U know Belicheat is laughing his a so bad now. He will take Bowers AND Ingram,
They took an OT on the next pick. Yeah, you got it all figured out....
Posted by: TheFakeSteveYoung | April 28, 2011 at 09:53 PM
how can you reach for a guard at 15???????? why not an OT at least. ireland's gotta go!
Posted by: greg z. | April 28, 2011 at 09:53 PM
After 4 drafts they've spent 3 first round picks on lineman.
Of the 9 lineman this regime has drafted, the only solid winner is Long. They are batting 1-9. Ross, begin your FO search for 2012 tomorrow.
Posted by: 0x80 | April 28, 2011 at 09:53 PM
I love the pick... Now resign ronnie

Good comment 1 in Montreal.
Posted by: ltcdolphin | April 28, 2011 at 09:53 PM
Craig M.....hope your right.....
but I think Ireland just fired himself.....and sporano
Posted by: Kris | April 28, 2011 at 09:53 PM
You know, the City of Miami is on Fire. It would be very simple to spread it up. Mr. Ross, don't suffer, let us buy you out. Think about it.(No moves to other States whatsoever!).

The sky is falling lol lol lol.
Relax

I don't get the hate for the pick. The way some of you guys are talking you'd think we had a good line last year. We didn't!! Now if Jerry progresses, Incognito moves to centre and Pouncey settles in beside Long we have the makings of a solid line. What is wrong with that? Can we judge this team after the draft and FA, instead of just ONE pick. Irleand is a lot smarter than most of you give him credit for. He's not done yet.
Posted by: Craig M | April 28, 2011 at 09:54 PM
Ireland def going after FA QB now and pick up RB in third round
Posted by: laces out | April 28, 2011 at 09:54 PM
#1 DF Montreal - I agree that an OL pick is okay since that is where it all starts but Pouncey is still a reach at 15. Nonetheless, he will be a vast improvement over what we've had and this improves the offense in a big way. Well, it'll give Henne more time anyway, so I don't know if that'll actually help...
Posted by: Jimmy Jam | April 28, 2011 at 09:54 PM
...How do we know Pouncey will compare to his brother? The kid hasn't played a snap yet, and we already know how his career will play out. Why would anyone say this? Isn't in our best interest for Pouncey to work out better then his brother? We needed interior line help. We addresed the need. It may not be exciting. But it is a better pick then reaching for a quarterback that we may not have been sold on...
Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | April 28, 2011 at 09:54 PM
Wouldn't be sad to see the Dolphins use a 3rd rounder on another offensive lineman. This unit just simply sucks...Anyone who can't see this just don't know anything about football...We couldn't run block and couldn't pass protect. You think you can win in the NFL with such a crappy o-line? Uhh, nope!
Posted by: #1 Dolphin Fan in Montreal | April 28, 2011 at 09:54 PM
You guys are frigin' idiots!!!
Wish you new as much about football as you do about s*#ting out of your mouths!
Line needed to be upgraded to help improve running game and pass protection.
Good pick!
Posted by: Surfrat | April 28, 2011 at 09:54 PM
the jets didn't get good until they fixed their o-line. pouncey is the best interior lineman in the draft.
Posted by: boulderfinfan | April 28, 2011 at 09:55 PM
Phon, it's a terrible pick. He's not even a center. Has trouble snapping ball. Who will run ball? No second pick. Really? Solid pick? Not!!!
Posted by: jrljr2 | April 28, 2011 at 09:55 PM
The OL makes all us QBs and RBs look realllll perty!
I sucked at tampa, but gosh I was great in SF.
Posted by: TheFakeSteveYoung | April 28, 2011 at 09:55 PM
Ok, I hated this pick at first. But if Miami couldn't trade down, didn't want to take Dalton or Mallett this high, and think running backs are deep this year in the draft, I guess this is a pretty solid pick. No need for a corner or defensive end, no receiver worth taking that high. My only question now is do you put him at guard or center? If you put him next to Long, ill start to get excited.
Posted by: Jon | April 28, 2011 at 09:55 PM
Crap Pick.
None of this would have been neccessary had they picked Jason Brown in Free agency instead of Jake Grove.
Meanwhile, despite Armando's tweeted assurance that he'll play center, the 940 a.m. shills say he's gonna play guard.
More years of futility on the horizon.
Utter Crap.
Posted by: The Seer | April 28, 2011 at 09:55 PM
They've been trying to build line for four years and still wasting picks.
Posted by: jrljr2 | April 28, 2011 at 09:56 PM
Odin,
You watch, Pouncey will be MVP of the next SB. I'm ready to bet on it! Name your price.
Posted by: 0x80 | April 28, 2011 at 09:56 PM
We aren't morons. We have no Qb, no Rb and we draft a lineman. Please. Tgat make no sense in anyone book. This 1980's football in never going to work. Ireland is a parcels idiot.
Posted by: hguido1 | April 28, 2011 at 09:56 PM
You guys are HILARIOUS!! Did you think we were going to solve ALL our problems with that ONE pick. Ireland doesn't pick your guy and you're ready to jump off the edge....do us all a favour....JUMP!!
Posted by: Craig M | April 28, 2011 at 09:56 PM
Re-sign Ronnie is right, get d-will... I would love it if that happened.
Posted by: poizen | April 28, 2011 at 09:56 PM
When do we pick again, 79?
Great, we used the 15 pick on a guy we're basically converting to Center. Never mind he was a better guard in college. We do the O-line shuffle and the field goal fist pump!
Other than that, we'll getting Spitlers and John Jerrys from here on out.
I can just see Jeffy and tony high fiving right now. Totally freaking CLUELESS!!!!
Posted by: odinseye | April 28, 2011 at 09:57 PM
Yawn....hour and a half of my life wasted waiting for that? Help the run game? Ricky already said he's not coming back and Ronnie is an injury risk as he gets older. Man, I'm glad I didn't renew my tix.
Posted by: STH | April 28, 2011 at 09:57 PM
Come on folks, almost everyone had Pouncey to Dolphins. Hey NE needs defensive help and they just picked an OL as well, are they stupid now too
They know they have to protect QB
Posted by: Craig | April 28, 2011 at 09:57 PM

Sure, when the Steelers win the SB.
Posted by: NY "G" | April 28, 2011 at 09:57 PM
Ox, only if they trade him to NE.
Posted by: jrljr2 | April 28, 2011 at 09:58 PM
Could you pick anymore scared ? I don't care that the line needs to be upgraded we were supposed to HAVE DONE that 3 years ago. This is a travesty. If Ross had any balls he'd fire Ireland right now, he can't pick any worse than this loser. Maybe the NFL will let us play with a jugss gun at QB next year, oh wait they already do Chad "The Robot" Henne.
Posted by: Drew | April 28, 2011 at 09:58 PM
I understand perfectly the olines importance. But these clowns have been at it for 4 years. How many years before we actually think about offensive weapons that scare the peewee league?
Posted by: 0x80 | April 28, 2011 at 09:58 PM
They have a QB to protect. We don't.
Posted by: hguido1 | April 28, 2011 at 09:58 PM
Armando just called--has anyone seen his nitro pills?
Posted by: Angry Elf | April 28, 2011 at 09:58 PM
I wonder if Ireland avoided Ryan Mallet because of his lack of leadership and the rumors of his partying ways. South Beach is not the place for a young millionaire with substance abuse issues. I still can't believe we didn't go for Ingram even though his numbers dropped significantly and there were injury concerns.

Luck 2112
Posted by: miamiphinphan | April 28, 2011 at 09:59 PM
I can see morano fist pumping the fumbled snaps already.
Posted by: jrljr2 | April 28, 2011 at 09:59 PM
Be prepared. No censuring of legitimate comments, Armando. Ya hear.
Posted by: oscar canosa | April 28, 2011 at 09:59 PM
Ireland is lining up to take Ray Finkle with the 3rd pick.
Posted by: Angry Elf | April 28, 2011 at 10:00 PM
I hope that they still draft high energy explosive impact players. C'mon Ireland we know that you can do it! You can't suck that bad!
Posted by: djstarface | April 28, 2011 at 10:00 PM
This is a great pick. In the post tuna era, we finally pick a Gator/sec player. The big tuna was in love with the big 10.
Posted by: Chris | April 28, 2011 at 10:00 PM
You know after 41 years this just isn't fun anymore.I'm not interested in a running first team or a run first coach. You have to change the people to change the mind set.I want a passing team, a Dan Marino team win or lose, at least you had fun. Sparano can stick it, I hope the NFL cancels the season and gives the players the finger.
Posted by: Phin4Life | April 28, 2011 at 10:00 PM
why reach for an average guard??????????????????
Posted by: greg z. | April 28, 2011 at 10:00 PM
Looking at the teams in the rest of the 1st round, I'm guessing they couldn't find a trade partner to move back.
Four QBs were gone already, this is a defensive heavy draft, and lots of those guys are falling. There was no one left wanting to trade up for a QB, so why trade up when so many guys are going to be available 10 picks from now.
The Fins had to take Pouncey there. The only thing they need on the line was Center, and if he pans out then they've made the QB and RB (whoever they turn out to be) better by solidifying the O-line.
They should trade Crowder to get back into the 2nd round, since players are supposedly going to be able to be traded starting tomorrow.
Posted by: Ithaca Phin Fan | April 28, 2011 at 10:00 PM
Pouncey can't hike the ball.
He sucks.
Did Ireland bother to watch one Gator game this year?
Glad Ireland didn't waste the pick on a QB as we will likely have a shot at the #1 pick next year.
You suck Ireland.
Posted by: Irelandsucks | April 28, 2011 at 10:01 PM
Armando just tweeted he has no problem at all with the pick. So don't expect Armando to write any negativity on this
Posted by: bobbyd12 | April 28, 2011 at 10:01 PM
As unsexy as can be, it's not a bad pick. Our O-line sucked last year. This is a huge piece of the puzzle required for a good offence!
Posted by: zeik | April 28, 2011 at 10:01 PM
hey at least we didnt trade our draft this year and next for one receiver
Posted by: boulderfinfan | April 28, 2011 at 10:01 PM
Craig,
NE has a hof QB, offensive weapons, they can afford it. We have one single weapon in Marshall period. Who the hell is going to score points? More average late rounders and undrafted fa's?
Posted by: 0x80 | April 28, 2011 at 10:01 PM
A center! That can't snap the ball!!!îîîîîîîîî
Posted by: jrljr2 | April 28, 2011 at 10:02 PM
Odinseye
Wrong!
Pouncey rated 19 overall, 1st at position
Solder, 23 overall, 3rd best at position
I believe the plan is to go all in for Dangelo Williams.
Posted by: Craig | April 28, 2011 at 10:02 PM
"He's a fighter. Tough, hard-nosed player with a mean streak. Has some fist-fighter qualities and backs down to nobody. Not cheap but definitely works through the whistle. Plays with an aggressive attitude and not afraid to mix it up."
That's who I want hiking the ball to me!
