The NFL draft is finally here and this blog is a-live!
So do the Dolphins go with the primetime pick in this primetime draft? Do they trade back as I've been told they are trying to do? Do they pick a quarterback?
"A quarterback makes sense if and only if they think a FRANCHISE quarterback is there," Dan Marino tweeted today. "Otherwise, I am firm believer in taking the Best Player Available."
So whom would the man once hired to lead the Dolphins franchise -- he quit two weeks later -- consider the franchise quarterbacks in this draft?
"With my CBS gig I spend more time watching the QBs on Sunday so it wouldn't be fair for me to say if a guy is or isn't a franchise QB," Marino followed with another tweet.
The national insider types are reporting there will be a run on QBs in the top 12 picks. We'll see about that. Aside from the QBs, here are some names I'm going to ask you to keep in mind:
Alabama RB Mark Ingram if they do not trade back.
VT RB Ryan Williams if they trade back.
Florida C Mike Pouncey if they do not trade back.
Purdue OLB Ryan Kerrigan if they do not trade back.
Kansas State's Daniel Thomas if they do trade back.
I'm rooting for the trade back. OK, meet me in the comments section. Let's go a-live!

Great pick. Glad some of you geniuses aren't running this team. It all starts up front FA is still ahead. Some of you need to take a tranquilizer.

Armando:
How the heck does Miami get into the 2nd round?
Posted by: SomeGuyInIowa | April 28, 2011 at 11:21 PM
they are not going to put the pressure of saying he's going to start at center right now so they'll talk about looking at him and seeing where he fits best. they'll say he'll get a chance to fit wherever he fits best.
Having said that, Mike Pouncey better be a center.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | April 28, 2011 at 11:11 PM
Armando,
This is the problem! We use the 15th pick on a guy were not going to pressure to start? Are you freaking kidding me?
The 15th overall pick on a guy were going to see where he fits in? I'd be rolling on the floor if i wasn't so G.D. pissed off!
Whatever happened to using the 15th pick on a sure fire starter that will make a difference? Armando, seriously, Am I in the freaking twighlight zone or something?
The 15th overall pick on an INTERIOR lineman that we have to "SEE" where he fits in?
Somebody Help Me-PLEASE!!!!

J-E-T-S SUCK SUCK SUCK!
Posted by: Jimbo | April 28, 2011 at 11:21 PM
I didn't know that o-line scores points, what a blunder of a pick, not bad player we needed a QB or RB instead we draft a need that we can fill in FA... I would have drafted Dalton or traded up and got Gabbert!
Posted by: ray | April 28, 2011 at 11:22 PM
Armando,
If free agency ever starts do you think the Dolphins will be active and make a splash?
Posted by: DolFan Rick | April 28, 2011 at 11:22 PM
Craig,
The Giants controlled the clock cuz they took the run and shoot our for short drives all day with great D. Bills were all O that year (and it was not O-line), Bills did not have a great D. Probably why they lost (besides Norwood).
If I were GB, I would take O-line - cuz they have a great D and tons of playmakers on O. Can't compare.
Honestly, I would have taken Amukamara. Rather have 3-4 good CB's than a good O-Line

Craig M
I think the simple point is many of us felt there was better value at 15 than Pouncey. You can get guards in the later rounds too, I listed on in my mock. We are a team with one lonely sole offensive weapon. At what point does this team FINALLY start drafting serious offensive weapons? In Irelands own words, "sure you can get rbs in the late rounds, just like you can get QBs and TE's in the late rounds, but over time, the RB's taken in the 1st and 2nd round will be the best. I know that" 24 of the last 28 HOF's RBs were first round drafts, and 3 2nd round.
Or we could have gone D or found a replacement for Carey. Pouncey can't even snap the damn ball! Sheez!
Posted by: 0x80 | April 28, 2011 at 11:22 PM
Tawain Jones then?
Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | April 28, 2011 at 11:23 PM
Odin,
We've tried the other way of fixing the OL, namelyt drafting guys in the mid to late rounds. I'm talkig about guys like Murphy, Garner, Satele and too many other numerous guys to mention. How has that worked out? It's been a revolving door. If we can find a guy who can play on our line for 6-8 years I'm all for it. If it makes Jake Long better I'm all for it. If this kid can eventually play a good centre for us and go up against some of the tougher NT's in the league I'm all for it. If he can open up holes for the running game and protect Henne, I'm all for it....I really couldn't care if he was drafted 15th or 28th.
Posted by: Craig M | April 28, 2011 at 11:23 PM
Dolphins need to trade up for LeShoure from Illinois. Or hope Dalton or Stanzi are around later.
Posted by: Scooter | April 28, 2011 at 11:24 PM
Somehow I get the feeling Miami will be selecting offensive linemen, DEs, and DLs the rest of the draft, with maybe a TE thrown in for spice.
Posted by: TonyCane | April 28, 2011 at 11:24 PM
DeMarco Murray if he slips to us in the 3rd
Posted by: beerphin | April 28, 2011 at 11:24 PM
Craig - at least you are replying and sticking up for your point unlike Montreal who just is talking smack.
I do agree a good O-line is important, just think we should improve elsewhere.
At the end of the day - none of know what will happen, but you can see real fans. Nice chatting withone someone who actually is interactive and not just going off!
Posted by: Ked | April 28, 2011 at 11:25 PM
Barrett,
Show me the direct quote where he says "it matters who the QB is". You're interpreting his comments rather than quoting him directly.
Make sure you hang around, cause I've read direct quotes where he has said he would like to come to Miami.
Posted by: Craig M | April 28, 2011 at 11:26 PM
So now we have 3 first round offensive line man. Carey, long ,pouncy, Jerry 3rd round . Are we done now?
Posted by: tonysfins | April 28, 2011 at 11:26 PM
What do guys say 'you shouldn't have 4 years to fix the OL'. It's THREE years guys....get it straight!!
11-5, 7-9, 7-9.....that would be THREE years.
Posted by: Craig M | April 28, 2011 at 11:28 PM
I actually like the pick........................Sure they dont have a featured back signed,Sure they still have Mr.Roboto Henne as QB, Sure they have Brian Daboll as OC, Sure they still have the Fist Pumper as the HC, What's not tolike about the pick????????
Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 28, 2011 at 11:28 PM
Tonysfins,
we have drafted a qb how many years in a row now and we still have people crying for one???
Posted by: phinfactor | April 28, 2011 at 11:28 PM
That's why Armando I say and will keep saying it that until we get people in that know how to run a draft and a decent coaching staff that know how to put talent together and get the best out of their players we will be bottom of the AFC east, I think The Bills have a better chance to make the playoffs than the PHINS because they have a decent QB!
Posted by: ray | April 28, 2011 at 11:29 PM
OK - so we have 3 #1 picks on the O-line now...Jets have 3 or 4...when NE won 3 bowls in a few years, how many 1st rounders did they have....
hmmmmm
Posted by: Ked | April 28, 2011 at 11:29 PM
im so tired of the Henne haters they wonder why we have not had a QB since Marino, they have never stuck with one long enought to prove them self. Henne is bettr than 85% of the QB'S that ever played in thier 2nd second year....and thats a fact. I am a huge Dolphin fan but i live most of the year in new engald/NY and it amazes me haw the Jet fans stuck by Sanchez, and im not prazing NY because after Elli's 2nd year they wanted him out..how did that turn out? That bieng said i realize most of the people don there are all about the big names, realy what have palmer or v young have ever done but get released by thier teams...but you still rather have them then Henne...get over your blame game and realy watch this KID, yes KID. He is our future
Posted by: g | April 28, 2011 at 11:30 PM
Da'Quan Bowers will slip to us in the third because he has a deteriorating knee in need of microfracture surgery and we will take him. Bets, anyone?
Could be a huge pick for us. I hear these total knee replacements are unreal. He and Odrick can keep each other company in the training room.
Posted by: Jimmy Jam | April 28, 2011 at 11:30 PM
We have no ammunition to trade up with, pipe dream. The only chance for a second was to trade down. Now if they give away next years picks to move up, I will not be happy. Lets not go into the draft every season short picks while smart teams stockpile them.
Posted by: 0x80 | April 28, 2011 at 11:30 PM
Fellas...There is still time to aquire playmakers. In fact the meat of the offensive talent is from round 2-4..This whole first round was flooded with defense, and some questionable quarterback talents...Pouncey will be fine at center. Do you think that he would have been considered if he couldn't snap the ball? Go look at his highlight reels, or watch some games...The guy dominated. He was always on his feet. Hate the pick if you want. but this was no big suprise...I predicted it that should tell you something...even Armando got it right...That never happens.

No Ray,
The bills have speed!!! We do not..
Posted by: phinfactor | April 28, 2011 at 11:31 PM
dj scarface, like you have all the answers?
Do yo ass even know how close to 4,000 yards Henne threw last season?
Of course you don't know. Otherwise, yO, would not post dirt.
Henne threw for over 3,300 yards...4,000 is merely a 43 yards more per game average.
In otherwords, one or three more completions...
And Pouncy will help in that regard.
Ps, Get off that demoralizing crybaby bandwagon sissy...
Sick and tired of you naysayers

Craig
Why were we 11-5 the first year.
Cuz the O-line was great or cuz Chad P?
Posted by: Ked | April 28, 2011 at 11:31 PM
Hate to break it but offensive line has been a weakness for much longer than 3 years.
Posted by: Jimbo | April 28, 2011 at 11:32 PM
Craig,
It is now the 4th draft, the 3rd has long passed and the oline still is musical chairs.
Posted by: 0x80 | April 28, 2011 at 11:33 PM
Hey I think the PHINS are going to keep picking OL until they pick one that can throw the ball!! LMFAO!!!
Posted by: ray | April 28, 2011 at 11:34 PM
You know what Craig M. every year I put my money down and support the team in the freaking stadium, I dont know where you are, but I dont need to be told about this team when I have seen them live, sitting in a nearly empty stadium, being laughed out of your own stadium because of the pathetic product on the field, I've lived it for years. I witnessed live the wreck that is Henne and watched how the defense handled him.
The simple truth is this team needed Playmakers. They needed to be agressive not safe. They needed something to ignite the fanbase and that didn't happen and there is not certain reason to believe that anything special will happen in free agency. There is no reason to believe that this FO will be aggressive there either. This is crap and as I have said, they wont be getting my 3 grand until this FO is gone.

Posted by: Ked | April 28, 2011 at 11:35 PM
Ked....cheers!!
The only thing I would add, in that Bills vs Giants Super Bowl, Otis Anderson ran the sh8t out of the ball. Jeff Hostetler was the starting QB, hardly a star. All the playmakers were on the Bills' side with Kelly, Thomas, Reed, Lofton and McKeller. The game was won with strong offensive line play and keeping the Bills off the field. That was key to the game.
I'll also add that the Packers likely will go OL, despite a lack of good running game.
Posted by: Craig M | April 28, 2011 at 11:37 PM
Bottom line,,,,If Henne plaed for the Jets they win the SB

Meanwhile, look at our offensive HOG index...
http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/Articles/2_1024_Off._Hog_Index.html
Below us are St. Louis, Baltimore, Seattle, and Chicago (last). Gee - Chicago did ok, despite the worst offensive line rating....ok - guess O-line is so important - LOL!!!
Posted by: Ked | April 28, 2011 at 11:38 PM
I really hope all you Henne lovers are right. I would love to be wrong... I am serious. I just don't see it - whatever the stats say, all you had to do was watch the guy. That said, he'll be our starting QB this year, I am 90% sure so, I have to pray that he plays up to your expectations. With a WR coach as a QB coach, I have to wonder who's really going to teach him the nuances? Daboll?
With Pouncey (hopefully at LG), Henne should have plenty of time and the running game should be solid (hopefully they pick up a speedy WR who can at least stretch the field and keep the D honest). If Henne can't do it with this OL and an improved running game then I hope you all can admit that he's not worthy. If he can, I will be the first to admit I was wrong.
Posted by: Jimmy Jam | April 28, 2011 at 11:38 PM
0x80,
They have had THREE drafts to get it right. This draft isn't over yet. People want to say 4 seasons the way they say Henne has had THREE years when in reality he has started for TWO.
Posted by: Craig M | April 28, 2011 at 11:39 PM
D Will wont play in Caroline because Cam will get more Carries than him...ewww
Posted by: g | April 28, 2011 at 11:39 PM
Or run the ball! Who is going to run the ball who is going to make the big plays who is going to put fear on the eyes of the defense!!
Who Tell me who!! You guys can't handle the truth!!!
Posted by: ray | April 28, 2011 at 11:39 PM
We need two centers now, one to snap the ball and the other to block. Crap!
Posted by: joke city | April 28, 2011 at 11:40 PM
Cheers Craig,
I agree with your Bills Giants analysis, but the Giants D was a huge key also. I am not saying a running game or O-line hurts. Just that it does not make a team.
I agree the pack will go O-line (which they just did). It was the weakest part of their team!
Posted by: Ked | April 28, 2011 at 11:40 PM
The biggest bummer here is we didn't get the trade down. Pouncey is who I (and a lot other guys on here and over half the major mocks)thought they would take with no trade down.
We are just going to have to continie make good picks and be very active when free agency starts.
This team has to win. Jobs are on the line.
Posted by: DolFan Rick | April 28, 2011 at 11:40 PM
Jimmy Your Thoughts on who will be the RB???????
Posted by: Cuban Menace | April 28, 2011 at 11:41 PM
Another Dolphins draft, another disappointment. I should start setting my expectations for this team a lot lower. Definitely the pick of people just hoping to be mediocre enough now to have a job in 2012...rather than really building the Miami franchise.
Posted by: Alpha | April 28, 2011 at 11:42 PM
Jimmy jam, I basically said the same thing earlier
Posted by: phinfactor | April 28, 2011 at 11:43 PM
Barrett,
I don't know what your rant has to do with anything. I just asked you to post the direct quote where D'Angelo Williams said he won't come to Miami because Chad Henne is our QB. So you go to games every year and spend $3 grand on tickets....what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? I get that you're frustrated but I would think that Williams will look at the Dolphins as a viable option when the time comes. How about you buy me a D. Williams shirt if he ends up here....deal?
Posted by: Craig M | April 28, 2011 at 11:44 PM
You guys can't tell me who from TBE PHINS offense puts fear on the defense! I'm waiting!
Thats what I thought.... I hear crickets, listen

Craig,
What is your reasoning on this post:

Craig M.
What I posted inmy first post was a direct quote.
“It’s all going to boil down to quarterbacks,” Williams said. “In this league, the running game is all predicated on if you have a quarterback or not. If you don’t have a quarterback, teams stack the box and they force you to do what you do best.”
Carolina just got the most exciting player coming into the league. Like they said on the NFL Network. The Panthers will focus on the running game to help out the new QB and they have a very good line, so they will do everything they can to keep the RBs at home.
Posted by: Barrett Wallace Lives | April 28, 2011 at 11:44 PM
Craig, ur still fixing the line in the 4th year. They don't even know where he will play. Glad u can count though..
Posted by: JB | April 28, 2011 at 11:45 PM
0x80,
Who are the THREE OL we have drafted in the last four years in the first round. You said that earlier.
Posted by: Craig M | April 28, 2011 at 11:45 PM
I'm told Mike Pouncey will definitely play center.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | April 28, 2011 at 11:46 PM
Henne has been a pro 3 seasons whether he started them all or not. A full year of being tutored by Pennington you can't conveniently just sweep under the rug. Henne has had 4 years college and going into his 4th year as a pro. To quote Mr Don Shula "If the kid has something to show, he should be showing it by now".
This is their 4th draft, not likely they are drafting more lineman.
Posted by: 0x80 | April 28, 2011 at 11:46 PM
I would love to see Michael Bush as a dolphin, He is a beast and never had the chance to carry the load in oakland because of mcfadden
Posted by: g | April 28, 2011 at 11:46 PM
To sum up:
We used the 15th overall pick to keep on shuffling the O-line around.
I know our line needs help, but how prudent is it to use this pick on a guy we have to see where he "fits in"?
The 15th overall pick and, who knows, he'll probably play somewhere. He can't be any worse than the guy we picked last year or the Dallas cast offs we picked up out of the dumpster.
So yeah, we'll see where the 15th overall pick of the draft "fits in".
I'm going to puke! I don't know if it'll be because of Ireland or the alcohol, but you can bet your a s s I'm going to puke!
Where he "fits in", Whoop, WHOOP!!!!
Posted by: odinseye | April 28, 2011 at 11:47 PM
Armando, what would you like to see happen in 3rd round?
Posted by: henny | April 28, 2011 at 11:47 PM
Our O-Line better beat up people this year, or it is a waste!!!
Posted by: Ked | April 28, 2011 at 11:47 PM
Craig,
I already answered you. I said lineman, not olineman. Odrick was the other.
