There is always another side to the proverbial coin.
When I discuss the interest I've perceived from the Dolphins for Cincinnati quarterback Carson Palmer -- based on conversations I've had with folks within the organization -- I always am very careful to point out this account only applies to Miami's interest.
I cannot tell you exactly what will happen when the lockout is lifted and players are allowed to be traded because I am not certain what the Bengals will do about Palmer. And they also get a vote. Yes, I believe the Bengals have offered small hints here and there they might be willing to part with Palmer for the right price.
But I haven't actually talked to the Bengals, I don't know what the price would be, and I have no clue what the Dolphins would think of that price.
That is the other side of the coin. And Geoff "Butch" Hobson, who was so good at covering the Bengals for so long the team waved the white flag and actually hired him (If you can't beat them, hire them), says the trade winds for Palmer are so still, there are no trade winds.
Not for the third-round pick Dan Marino suggested he would give. Not for anything any of you are willing to part with, based on my reading of your comments.
"... If [the Dolphins] think it’s going to take Dan Marino’s suggested third-round pick, they should take a drug test," Hobson wrote recently. "Mike Brown giving up Palmer for only a third-rounder? Never happen. Brown giving up Palmer period? Maybe less than never."
I sat next to Hobson during the NFL annual meetings in New Orleans. He mentioned more than once to me he thinks Palmer is simply outstanding. He said watching him during practices, he's seen Palmer make every single throw imaginable -- dashing the theory Palmer is too injured and diminished to make a difference any more. He also, on more than one occasion, compared Palmer to Jim Plunkett.
Plunkett, like Palmer, was a former No. 1 overall pick. Plunkett, like Palmer, had his share of struggles with a struggling franchise that drafted him. And Plunkett was traded to the Oakland Raiders where he won a couple of Super Bowl titles.
If that analogy is accurate, Palmer would be exactly the right veteran QB to chase once the NFL labor situation is settled.
I suppose that's the third side of the coin. Um, yeah, the third side of the coin.

Big fish lover are you redsky !

Redsky...I serve both local Buffalo, and local Beef. And my opinion. There is a huge difference. Thr buffalo is much healthier then beef, since none have hormones shot into them(both free range) but the lack of fat make some of the premium cuts(rib, sirloin, loin) not nearly as tasty. The buffalo move around to much, and their muscular make-up lends to a much drier, less tasy product. Plus is doesn't dry age as well. I think the buffalo tastes to off when aged.

redsky it`s interesting you would bring up a BBQ`d churrasco, I have only heard the term used in Vzla. and yes that`s one hell of a good piece of meat. I haven`t had the pleasure of a Buffalo steak but your post about it has me curious, so I`ll be on the look out for it.
Posted by: fin4life | April 10, 2011 at 12:10 AM
DD, you run a steak house in Montana ? What is the best piece of meat you`ve come across ?
Posted by: fin4life | April 10, 2011 at 12:12 AM
fin4life...I have a restaraunt, I wouldn't say it is a steakhouse. But we serve some cuts. fin4life I don't know if you mean the best we serve, or my favorite from the animal, or all time. So I will answer them all.
The best we serve is a rip off of the Bisteca florintina. We do a 36 oz porterhose for 2, cut it off the bone, slice it, put it back. We serve it with just S&P and Arugula, and tomatoes with lemon and olive Oil. My favorite cut is anythin I can Braise. Short ribs are my favorite. For Grilling Hangar steak. And my favorite beef is the Chianina cows from Tuscany. Nothing close(IMO)

Fin4life, I love sushi!!!! DarrylDunphy, are you in Montana? My father-in-law lives in Bozeman. I've had Buffalo in Montana, CO, and at the Disney World Wilderness Lodge. It has always been tender and flavorful. I love it! But it has always been fresh, not aged. In MT I had it at Ted Turner's place, he has a ranch there....
Posted by: redsky | April 10, 2011 at 12:26 AM
Dang! All this high end meat talk?
Did I stummble into the Hells Kitchen blog?? LOL
You guys are killing me with all the meat chat as I sit he with good old fashioned Cup Noodles. They used to be called Cup O' Noodles back in the day but Nissan felt the need to drop the O'. It has nearly real bits of reconstituted chicken in it and enough salt that a briny shrimp would love it!
Bon Apetit!
Cheers!

DD, You just made me hungry ! That 36 oz. steak sounds delicious ! Were about in Montana do you live, so I`ll be sure to stop in and have that Bisteca and by the way I also love Short ribs. I work in the Frieght fowarding business so I deal with alot of clients that ship frozen beef and one in particular always has a 35 to 40 pd. box set aside for me
Posted by: fin4life | April 10, 2011 at 12:30 AM
Redsky...I live close to Bozeman, or should I say Bozeman is the closest big cith to where I live. One of Turners ranches is near Bozeman. In fact the one right out of Yellowstone is where we get our buffalo. They stray out of Yellowstone, and have to be killed because they cary bruceloisis, which kills the cattle if passed on.
Dry aging is easy, you just need temp control and a fan. We put sea salt in clay(this is just how I learned???) we age it 27 days. Dry aged beef isn't for everyone. It makes the protiens break down, and gives the beef a totaly different, much stronger flavor. Some find it to gamey.

Darryl, what part of the animal is that Bisteka, (beefsteak), (bistec in Spanish), cut from? I'm interested. I marinade my steaks in a ginger, roasted garlic, light soy, brown sugar, and sesame oil....plus a few other ingredients, that is to die for....if you are in Montana, I will visit your place next time I'm up!!!

Redsky...I'm actually 2 hours northeast of Paradise Valley. But I have to drive through there on the way to town. Going through there on Monday to go to Bozeman(that's where we go for supplies) Going to do some fishing on the Yellowstone on the way there, and the Gallatin on Tuesday. Yellowstone Club? That place is sweet. Who do you know that got you on there? That is high class stuff!!!
Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | April 10, 2011 at 12:49 AM
I personally sometimes am left scratching my head at the posts Mando puts up. I mean are we led to believe because some idiot fan who now works for the Bengals says that Palmer can make all the throws like he did coming outta USC, that were supposed to buy that hook line and sinker ? I love the refrences to Punkett as well, you wanna talk about zero comparison that`s the one. Plunkett didn`t have all the toys that Palmer has had until he got to Oak./L.A. Rob I`ve thrown that Plunkett comparison around a bit myself and always felt it compared more favorably to a kid in your neck of the woods in A.Smith
Posted by: fin4life | April 10, 2011 at 12:49 AM
Funny Rob! Cheers and beers!
Posted by: redsky | April 10, 2011 at 12:50 AM
Darryl, my father-in-law's wife's sister is a multi-millionaire realtor. She has a place at the Yellowstone Club, close to the lodge, that's the only way a poor guy like me could get in, she gets about 150 passes per season for friends and family....
Posted by: redsky | April 10, 2011 at 12:57 AM
Palmer, maybe gets the Bengals to the S.B. and wins it, if not for the cheap shot Keeno Von Offelmen put on him in that Playoff game. I know Keeno apologized but if you watch the replay he was clearly down then jumped at Palmer`s knees, that injury basically ended his career, remember it was so severe there was initial talk he would never walk correctly again much less run, then it got infected an the lower leg was almost amputated. In watching his game since you can see his hesitation in stepping into the pocket and delivering throws with any kind of authority, also prone to throwing some real ducks in the flat. The guy is dammaged goods his career was left on the field in Cin. in those 05 playoffs !
Posted by: fin4life | April 10, 2011 at 12:58 AM
Darryl, so Cooke City can't be too far from Bozeman. What's the restaurants name?

fin4life,
Agree on the Kimo hit. He took a second effort lunge. It looked like he thought about it afterwards but too late, the damage was done.
I am not a fan of Plamer coming here. A little to expensive, long in the tooth, sounds like he gets robbed of his passion for football if things don't go right.
Too much risk he will sign and end up like Randy Moss...paid and disinterested.

@Rob,
I did see that NFL Net. piece on Ingram and agree with you on that subject whole heartedly, you know that ! Your argument against him is sound and rings verbatim with everything I`ve posted on it for a few weeks now as well. I try not to let myself get as engaged as you though with the Ingram followers on here, there argument for him has basically become gospal and they aren`t interested in seeing the guy for what he is, which in my opinion is a short yardage type who will be a change of pace option off the bench for some team at the next level. I`ve read countless articles that suggest that the drafts 1st. big suprise will be Lashoure going ahead of Ingram in rd.1
Posted by: fin4life | April 10, 2011 at 01:23 AM
My Offensive helper draft...
1. QB Ryan "The Heater" Mallet
3. WR Jerrel "Jukes" Jernigan
4. TE DJ "The Agressor" Williams (+1 for Mallet familiarity)
5. RB Taiwan "Flash" Jones
6. TE Schuylar "Skyscraper" Oordt
7. G Chris "Bulldozer" Stewart
These guys would bring much needed speed and big playmaking ability to the OFF and ST.
I am pretty sure we can't have an OFF only draft but I do feel the DEF could hold it's own in year 2 of Nolan's system. With ILB EaGads coming back and FA to pick up a filler if we need it. S Reshard Jones should be better in year two. Grab a vet QB to compete and for injury insurance. Grab G Carl Nicks from N.O. to have the needed beef at G. That would be 700+ lbs at G between he and Stewart. Resign Ronnie Brown.
Whimsical mock but we could do a heck of a lot worse.
Cheers,

Gentlemen, I think we're stuck with Henne, so I hope he has an epiphany! Divine intervention would be welcome with that lad! I think we'll solve Japan's issues as well as the Middle East before TS can fix Henne, any wagers? LOL!
Posted by: redsky | April 10, 2011 at 01:30 AM
fin4life,
Thanks for the vote of confidence brudda! I know 0x80 and I as well as others gte into it a little too heavy about that guy.
I'll be glad when the draft has past and he is with another team. I didn;t like LeShoure at first but he has grown on me. I saw Ryan Williams ran a 4.43 at his pro day and looked like a beast. He would be nice get.
The serious challenge is navigating the draft with that hole at #2. So many nifty players will go in that second round.
It is said to be too much of a reach to tab Mallet but I don't think the Fins would cacth too much flak for it as everyone knows they need to add to the competition there. If they trade back that would nice but I believe QB hungry teams would leap frog them at that point.
Too be honest picks 11-14 could be spots that people jump too.
We know as we have seen lately. QBs save or lose jobs for coaches and GMs and thus seem to be coveted moreso than other positions.
I heard Jason La Canfora talking about one of his sources saying there could be 6 QBs taken by like pick 50-60.
If Mallet gets by us in any way I would switch gears to position for Kaepernick. If he was snapped up I would take a late round flyer on Scott Tolzien from Wisconsin. Guy hit mearly 73% completions as a Senior! Had a 68.1% career completion percentage. That is some serious accuracy!
Cheers,
Posted by: Rob in OC | April 10, 2011 at 01:41 AM
@Rob,
I like your mock draft but I would much rather trade back and grab Mallet later at the end of rd.1, while adding an extra pick or 2 a real possibility if S.D. wants to move up 3 spots to take Watt before the Pats and it would be a great way to stick it to Belichek as well. Here is a bleacher report for you that breaks down the R.B.`s in this draft you might like it while not agreeing with it.

redsky, Vegas odds would put your wager at about 60/1 against Henne, not much faith in the W.R. Coach fixing what ale`s him, what huhh !! the W.R. Coach !! yeah !! he`s the guy TS hand picked to work out the kinks in Henne, sheesh !! what a gumba !!

fin4life,
Good read thanks!
I would rank Ingram lower and I feel Noel Devine should be on that list as well as Derrick Locke.
I really think Taiwan Jones will create a buzz after his pro day on April 14th.

Rob I found it interesting that the only guy they mention when using the term "elite speed" was T.Jones, I also really like Locke in the mid rounds and your guy Williams gets some serious props as well !

0x80 @ 4:31 pm,
i here what you are saying about sparano not playing sheets because of his inability to block but it has less to do with a player's ability to make plays and be a contributor as it has to do with the shortsightedness of an nfl head coach. if sparano has a talent that can be a playmaker for the team and he wishes not to play him because of some "standard" he has then he will live or die by that standard. in my opinion he is making a mistake and, if someone were to ask people around the league about this, they would probably say the same. it's probably one of his biggest failures. he doesn't know how to utilize the talent he has. sparano had some guys on the team last year in wallace and moore that probably should have contributed more to the offense than they did. he chose not to play them. moore had a very nice catch and run for a td in the oakland game. where was he after that game? other coaches would have given him more of a chance and worked with a player like that to help elevate their game. moore disappeared. he averaged 21 yds a reception and was barely used. why? so, like i said, i don't think sheets lack of playing time would have as much to do with his ability as much as it has to do with the coaches ability to properly utilize the talent he has on the team.
Posted by: dm1dolphan | April 10, 2011 at 08:33 AM
Palmer won't get away from the Bengals.
Posted by: beerndrums | April 10, 2011 at 09:22 AM
dm1 @ 8:33
You bring up a good point, something that has been spoken about here in the past but still gets overlooked often. It's as if Sparano needs each player to do 100% of the things necessary to play his position, his standard is too rigid. You cite just one more of the many reasons why I'm not sold on Sparano and don't believe he is a competent HC at the NFL level.
Regarding Kory Sheets though, odinseye @ 7:34 did have a pretty good write up on why Sheets in particular really just may not be good enough.
Posted by: 0x80 | April 10, 2011 at 10:40 AM
I like Mikel Lashoure as our #1 in the draft and will stick to that, some say he lacks toughness but I tend to disagree. I don`t think the comparison to Mendenhall is fair outside of the fact they both wore the same # and played at the same school. I think he has the ability to make things happen in the open field with the speed to run away from everybody and can grind for the tough yard when necessary, could easily be the best back we`ve had since we had a young Ricky.
If we go Q.B. in rd.1 as Rob and others would like and take Mallet then I would pull the trigger on a trade with S.D. swapping #1`s and taking there 3rd. allowing them to leap frog N.E. at 17 and taking JJ Watt. Then at 18 I`m looking to move down again to the very bottom of rd.1 while adding another 3 or better and still taking Lashoure who should be there ahead of everybodies consensus pick Ingram. I truely believe we still get Mallet in rd.2 if we have some ammo in rd.3 to offer if that were our predilection.
Here is a link to NFL Net. 1st. look at M.Lashoure.

Do we go into our next campaign by churning the O-line roster all the way up to week 1?
Do we accept all the rejects from the Dallas Cowboys again?
Will the culture change from preparing to fight to preparing to whip another team's a s s?

We are not tied exclusively to the Cowboys trash pile this year.
We now get first crack at the Browns trash pile also via Daboll.

Also we still have access to the emplyees of Footlocker and Walmart so that we can find a couple starters like we did last year with McQuistan and Mickey Shuler.
