Draft Day No. 3 live blog starts here at noon

When the draft resumes this afternoon, I'm hoping the Dolphins land a certain RB that I've had my eyes on for a while whose name I will not type here because, believe it or not, I've recently learned at least one rival AFC team reads this blog for updates on what the Dolphins are thinking -- obviously not recognizing that I don't know squat about squat.

Joke's on them!

Nonetheless, I won't mention this RBs name at this point, not that it's a big secret.

Lookit, the Dolphins need speed today. It is lacking for them on offense. It is lacking on defense, although not to the same degree. It is definitely lacking on special teams.

Speed, speed, speed, speed, speed, speed!

When Bill Parcells first started constructing this team it started looking like a mirror image of the 1990 New York Giants for a while there. The Dolphins were big, hulking, and bulking. This team looks very imposing in the airport.

But the game has changed since 1990 and is played on the field not in an airport. So the plodding Fins have some adjusting to do.

They need speed to be more dynamic. They need speed to make sure those kickoff returns and punt returns stop going 90 yards in the other direction. They need speed to do something that we haven't seen around here a lot lately: Blow somebody up with a 90-yard punt return of their own, or hit them on a 74-yard run, or throw a 68-yard bomb over the top of their defense, or return an interception 101 yards.

So my hope is today is about turning the Incredible Hulk into Flash. Or something like that.

The hope for today is a:

Change of pace fast RB.

A return man. Must be ... fast.

(Hopefully the Dolphins can get two for one by having the fast RB also be a fast return guy.)

OLB help to punish Tom Brady and Slim Shady now that they're boys in New England.

Maybe a  NT. He's the only one that doesn't need to be fast. Don't sleep on the NT, by the way.

[NOTE: Live blog happening right here at noon. Yesterday was the biggest day on this blog in all of 2011. Enormous! Thank you. And thanks to that team for checking in. I don't know anything.]

I like all our picks, filled O-line needs with Pouncey, Rb with Thomas, I cant remember how many times Ronnie gor pulled down by an arm tackle, and I like Ronnie, Wr speed, Clay's versatility at HB or TE is sweet, then Kearse who is a beast and WIlson who hits like a hammer, at lease speacial teams, veteran QB to back up Henne from free agency and we're looking good baby.

Just one thing for Sparano, he needs to coach like he did his first year, and go for it!

FINS baby!

WILDCAT!

jj, try reading what the detectives say and not get wrapped up in the sugar coated tear drop story. the guy commited murder. jam that.

D grade. We got 2 starters only one who should be which is Pouncey. Not sold on Thomas having a better career than Brown. Same type of back....less power...less speed. Sad. I hope the wr starts over Hartline...that may give us a chance at a passing attack. Keep Bess in the slot where he belongs. Sheets isn't as good as Derrick Locke. Not as elusive and his cuts are slower. Sheets is small but is a straight line guy that is fast but not very quick. Locke would have done work as a Fin. Too bad we will have a rb core filled with fullbacks to move the ball in small chunks of yards every down.

society, LMAO @ your blind ignorance!! Read what the detectives said, YEA NO BIAS there?? How about read what the Defense Attorney said?? In what World do you live in? Ultimately, the man was released from jail. That's the decision that matters at the end. Now go back and read your Sherlock Holmes books.

Pretty darn goood draft considering we went in with no #2. You can't have everything, but a lot of holes were filled, quality selections in the later rounds. Gotta love the Gates pick! All you whiners need to chill. Free agency will address the rest of the needs. I am psyched! Go phins!

Problem is that it's about what the jury says, not what the detectives say. If the man was found innocent then who are you to declare that he isn't? So, in your eyes, everyone who detectives arrest and charge with a crime is guilty?

Well, I'll let it go at that. We disagree.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

bobbd, so you think the defense attorneys know better than the detectives, they are paid to get their client off.

i guess you guys believe OJ was innocento, his attorneys and the jury said so.

sad sacks really... be happy in your land of make believe.. if the jets picked him you'd think differently...gossip queens that you are. haha!

Finally, I have concerns about Pouncey being a Center; if he's not, I hope that discovery it's not made during a game. I have plenty of concerns with Thomas, he is a project and not an immediate starter, my opinion. Gates will make an early impact one way or another. Great pick with Clay, if he learns the system quicly, he's a load to bring down. The others ?

ALOCO, you asked for the strangest case I dealt with as a LT in DV.....that would be the time your wife called when she came home and found some guy named Bubba had you handcuffed to a chair at home and you were dressed in ladies undergarments blindfolded, begging to be spanked....she beat you and Bubba with a broom! It's all true readers, except it wasn't Aloco.....there are hundreds if not more stories but you guys are going to have to buy me drinks. Stories about news media people, politicians etc. But my lips are sealed unless you're buying!

Jimmy Jam, society doesn't have a clue, I explained it in a previous post, but after his...

Society, are you a cop? Have you served your community? That was a weak case and he should not have been charged! BobbyD, JimmyJam thanks for standing up. Society, most of the time people are guilty, but this case NEVER rose to beyond a reasonable doubt. They had probable cause to arrest, but that's the minimum. Personally, you EFF with MY family, you're toast! He paid his price, now give him a chance to shine!

not thrilled with the picks, wasn't thrilled last year either and we stunk. It's kind of like the other side of the coin from JJ. Use a smaller net maybe get a fish or two.

Oscar, did you watch the video on Pouncey at center that Mando put on his blog, he was awesome at center, even in the shotgun!

Futhermore..don't take a chance and be great. Just play it safe and be good. Only problem is this team isn't even that.

WHO INVENTED THIS CRAP CALLED DRAF ANY WAY ? EVERY TEAM SHOULD HAVE NO 1 AND 2 PICKS AT SAME TIME.........

REDSKY IS TALKING TO HIMSELF .

Okay, I feel a little better about our draft once I read that Clay also played Tight End at Tulsa (as well as FB/H-back) and that Kearse projects better as a Nose Tackle than DT! That means that they actually do fill some positions of need. But, both look like major projects.
I'll give the Fins a good solid "B" as a grade. Now, if we can just get this party started and begin Free Agency!

i hope this guy thomas works out for us and everything but i have to say i seen a few of u guys on here knockin ronnie brown and ya i understand hes probley not gonna be that big a factor after the last season he had but if u guys dont agree that he was a solid rb every season before a unlucky injury happend ur crazy and i would be very happy of this guy shows potentioal like ronnie used too

Mark, I was so disappointed last year, but this year I'm optimistic!!!! Yes, I waffled about some of the picks, but when I researched them I changed my tune

TRACY...MY UNDERSTANDING ALL PLYERS WE DRAFTED ARE NOT a one POSITION PLAYERS ,LIKE CLAY PLAYED( TE AND FB/H-BACK ) ...A PLAYER WHO USE TO PLAY BASKETBALL AND ANOTHER USE TO A QB.

BOTTOM LINE.... THIS DRAFT COULD END IRELAND LIFE IN MIAMI .

This team is crazy if it gets rid of Ronnie Brown...washed up at 27 or 28??..yeah they drafted 2 rookies that will be 25. Try him at RB for a full year and give up the weakcat. Let the guy just run the damn ball.

overall, i'm satisfied with the way things went over the last 3 days and i'm not trying to rationalize or fool myself. 4 starters from this draft is pretty good. edmond gates was somewhat of a steal in the fourth round and charles clay was a little bit of a steal in the 6th. i was a fan of dj williams but i think i got caught up a little bit in the whole thing where he was concerned. i realize clay was from a lesser conference but you can't argue with his production. he had more yards receiving over his career than williams had and scored 18 more td's as a receiver. in addition, he rushed the ball for 911 yds and 10 td's in four years. williams had no yards rushing or rushing td's. clay is extremely versatile and productive. he's the same size as williams and green, has the same speed and is a lot more versatile. green didn't even have 1,000 yds receiving in four years. clay had over 2,000 yds. so, the pick was pretty good. so, i can't say that i am disappointed in the pick

Dolphan26, if we keep Ronnie, and that's a big IF, I think the Oline upgrade will open some running lanes!

R/BROWN LAST YEAR,ANY ONE WOULD TOUCH HIM FOR A TACKLE ,HE WOULD FALL DOWN ...IT WAS PAIN TO WATCH .

Wow!! Aloco, good post to Tracy, you almost sound smart...you still wearing your wife's undies? No really, good positive post!!!

Aloco, I agree wholeheartedly! They either make it work this year or Ross needs to clean out the Front Office! I think he considered it last year, but he was smart in that he waited for a new CBA to be in place. If the Dolphins win this year, he looks like a genius owner and will be forgiven for the whole Harbaugh thing. If we're cellar dwellers, he brings in a new coach and staff and keeps Ireland till his contract runs out for continuity. Or, he can clean house! At least a new coach would get to pick himself a franchise QB next year in the draft (which is probably a better draft for that position than this year).

Aloco you're right, it seemed as if a fly went by R

I AM NOT MARRIED YET ....NEXT YEAR WILL .

Aloco, got cut off, it was a compliment! Right on Tracy!

players i would like to see in camp:

lestar jean
john clay
derrick locke
keith darbut
joe lefeged
ryan barholomew
mario fannin

Aloco don't do it! DO NOT GET MARRIED!!! you'll thank me for this!!!

REDSKY,

I WANT CHILD TO RAISE ...I WANT TO LIVE HAPPY ,,,,,,,MARRIAGE WILL DO THAT TO ME .

TRACY....RIGH ON ...WE HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE .....

I THINK.......WE WILL SIGN A BIG NAME QB AND RB .

I READ AFEW PAGES FROM THIS BLOG TODAY AND IT WAS BAD ....

Aloco, I'll give you my kids...no I'm kidding....I understand! I loved raising my kids and coaching them in many sports. Both my sons lettered in High School, multiple times! Great times!

lol at the dolphins

I now see the genius in this drafting. Every week they are going to field each player in a different position. This will totally screw up the other teams game plan.

Someone said we got 4 starters? I think that is a bit premature to say at this point. Pouncey guaranteed will start. Thomas and Wilson unknown. Gates maybe starts as KR, for sure Hartline will be the season starter opposite Marshall.

One starter now. By end of season? We'll see.

Gates returns k/o and punts too. Perhaps no more Cobbs and Bess in these two areas.

Still see 3 and 13 (1 and 8 in a strike shorten season), But a good 1st round pick.....

ireland and sparano get an f in this draft. worse than last year. actually it is great, no qb, and they probably won't adresss that position with a trade or fa either. that leaves suck boy henne at the healm, in which he will be a bust again and that will be the end of ireland, sparano and henne for good once and for all.

Love is love and Home will fade away

One of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's sons -- Saif al-Arab Gadhafi -- was killed after a NATO airstrike, a spokesman for Libya's government said Sunday at a press conference.

Moammar Gadhafi and his wife were in their son's house when it was targeted, spokesman Musa Ibrahim said. Both of them are in good health, according to the spokesman.

The victim is one of two Gadhafi sons whose names begin with Saif. The other is Saif al-Islam Gadhafi, who had previously touted reform but has emerged as one of his father's most visible defenders in recent months.

Ibrahim said several of Moammar Gadhafi's grandchildren also died in the attack.

The house in Tripoli was destroyed by the strike, with a massive crater where the house used to be. At least one unexploded bomb could be seen.

The building was in a residential area of Tripoli, according to Ibrahim, who insisted that Saif al-Arab Gadhafi was a student in Germany who was not deeply involved in Libya's military and government.

I SEA THAT THE GANG OF DEFEET IS OUT IN DROVES TONITE,DLOPIN77,ARE YOU A NEW MEMBER OR JUST A FARMER?

aloco, read the article titled congratulations jeff ireland, you are officially a dumbass. that explains everything. it tells the truth, and nothing but the truth.

I can't blame them for not picking a QB high. Too many extenuating circumstances between cba and the possibility of a new FO in 2012. They've committed to giving Henne a chance, so they brought in help to give him the fairest chance possible.

It seems to me there is just no point in picking a QB after the second round. I say you pick them high, and use your current vet or FA vets as your backups or groomers.

To do so much with so little, this maybe this fo's best draft so far. I think it will playout on the field very well.

the lockout is looking better and better for the dolphins each day!

0x80,

After calming down and reading the whys, I ve concluded on offense this new personel blends perfectly with the present and really does upgrades it.

Emund Gates absolutely has to have a safety over top. He burnt corners alive at the stake w/o over top help. Place safeties atop Marshall and Gates then then Clay sneaks into the seam down the middle.

Thomas has the quick Franco Harris type feet. Franco Harris wasnt a homerun hitting rb neither, but he's now a hof'er.

Clay and Thomas proves the wildcat isnt dead either. It just became more dangerous with Thomas a former qb and Clay with route running and recieving skills.

I think we'll see a very exciting offense in 2011.

On paper when you look at weapons we already have and the ones just added. The 2011 Dolphins offense should be much more difficult to defend.

The Big problem is to many holes to fill, RB,QB,Head coach,GM, New Owner,Better OC(Dont forget we got a guy that had a worse offense then the Mighty-air breathers last year)ETC.ETC, again 3 and 13 here we come........

Breed, how much have you drank tonight???LOL

With draft, seems now our offense has the ability to attack the entire field. That wasnt so in 2010.

DB,

Overall I think it was a sensible draft.

Even though I am on record saying I didn't want Pouncey at 15, as much as I wanted Ingram, maybe Pouncey really was the most sensible choice too.

Thomas I'll give the benefit of the doubt, but so many of these guys don't look nearly as good in the NFL as they did in college, so I'm in wait and see mode.

I like the Gates pick and those other late rounders just may show promise.

With the draft done, and I really do hate to say it...I just really can't muster up much confidence in Sparano and Dabol.

Cuban,

I know inside as a loyal dolfan youre hoping to god youre wrong about this draft. LOL.......

Well Cuban, that's good news, at 3 and 13 we should be able to get Andrew Luck next draft!
