Draft Day No. 3 live blog starts here at noon

When the draft resumes this afternoon, I'm hoping the Dolphins land a certain RB that I've had my eyes on for a while whose name I will not type here because, believe it or not, I've recently learned at least one rival AFC team reads this blog for updates on what the Dolphins are thinking -- obviously not recognizing that I don't know squat about squat.

Joke's on them!

Nonetheless, I won't mention this RBs name at this point, not that it's a big secret.

Lookit, the Dolphins need speed today. It is lacking for them on offense. It is lacking on defense, although not to the same degree. It is definitely lacking on special teams.

Speed, speed, speed, speed, speed, speed!

When Bill Parcells first started constructing this team it started looking like a mirror image of the 1990 New York Giants for a while there. The Dolphins were big, hulking, and bulking. This team looks very imposing in the airport.

But the game has changed since 1990 and is played on the field not in an airport. So the plodding Fins have some adjusting to do.

They need speed to be more dynamic. They need speed to make sure those kickoff returns and punt returns stop going 90 yards in the other direction. They need speed to do something that we haven't seen around here a lot lately: Blow somebody up with a 90-yard punt return of their own, or hit them on a 74-yard run, or throw a 68-yard bomb over the top of their defense, or return an interception 101 yards.

So my hope is today is about turning the Incredible Hulk into Flash. Or something like that.

The hope for today is a:

Change of pace fast RB.

A return man. Must be ... fast.

(Hopefully the Dolphins can get two for one by having the fast RB also be a fast return guy.)

OLB help to punish Tom Brady and Slim Shady now that they're boys in New England.

Maybe a  NT. He's the only one that doesn't need to be fast. Don't sleep on the NT, by the way.

[NOTE: Live blog happening right here at noon. Yesterday was the biggest day on this blog in all of 2011. Enormous! Thank you. And thanks to that team for checking in. I don't know anything.]

Gates isn't a reach at all he was graded out in the 3rd rd.

Rest of the draft they are looking for a fast TE, smaller fast RB and in the 7th round a solid special team player or a project . In free agency we look for QB help and probably some vets to sprinkle in on the defense. I also think once we are allowed to trade they might deal some of their depth at DL for help in some other area. With better QB play we now are set to challenge for a wildcard spot.

i see its important to you that everyone agrees with you. i got over that when i was 12.

i like Yates, i think he will be a solid backup QB and maybe just maybe he can be a starter one day. I saw a lot of UNC games and there is something about the kid, he has the it factor.

Stretch the field, YES!

raiders are picking next .. hold your breath?

who will throw the ball to Gates,Ilike the pick, but who will throw the ball?not Mallet!

My prediction?

Actually Scout, Henne completed 61.4% last year. Which isnt that bad. Puts him ahead of guys like Sanchez, Cutler and Roethlisberger

Barrett Wallace are you retarded?
Watch the stats streaming on the screen. Our passing game ranked 16th. Total offense was 21st. That's because our running game was ranked 28th. Henne's not holding back the running game; the running game is holding back the whole team.

bess is one of the best route runners in the league. gates no better than ginn as a route runner. he'll catch two bombs a season.

from the videos he can get separation. I like the pick. This is a good draft for the phins so far. I hope we can still get taiwan jones

someone finally graded out higher than Gates on the ESPN board. WR Tandon Doss to the Ravens.

Taiwan JOnes, gone to the raiders

taiwan jones to the raiders. no surprise there.

Taiwan Jones to the Raiders.

I like the pick of Gates! If his speed is as advertised, he will makes defenses play the Dolphins more honest! Now we only need a seam TE and we will be set!

Henne and McNabb were pretty simular in stats and Henne is getting better and McNabb is declining, but so maany people want to bring in McNabb.....WHY?

Hey Bulldogs,

I am with you on Derrick Locke. He can play the slot, return kicks and punts and also play RB and add a nice change of pace to Daniel Thomas.

Again I seem to be in minority for some reason but I really like Miami's draft so far.

Taiwan...all gone :- (

For not having a 1st rounder, the Raiders did surprisingly well.

Let the whining begin the Raiders just took the RB from EWU.

Gates.........Great Pick!

Draft Scout Edmond Gates News
03/24/11 - Edmond Gates might be small-school, but he has the potential to be big-time in the NFL. As if the Abilene Christian wide receiver’s performance at the NFL Scouting Combine last month hadn’t done enough for his draft stock, Gates put on a show once again in front of representatives from 22 teams at the school’s pro day on Monday held outdoors on FieldTurf. Gates (6 feet, 189 pounds) stood on his impressive combine 40-yard dash time of 4.37 seconds — which he did with a groin injury and was tied for tops in Indy among receivers — but re-did the broad jump, posting an 11-foot-2 mark better than his 10-11 jump at the combine, which was second among receivers. Gates also had a 4.13 short shuttle and a 6.82 3-cone drill. During his individual workout, Gates was outstanding, looking more advanced than Bears WR Johnny Knox, another Abilene Christian alum who was named to the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2009 and has done pretty well for himself overall in the NFL. Gates is every bit as good as Knox, probably better based on what we’ve seen of him. The fact that 22 teams showed up to watch Gates work out tells you how good he is. It’s not like he was just an OK starter at a small school; he was a star. And he has backed it up in workouts. Knox’s success also gives credence to Gates’ ability. Knox was a fifth rounder. I’d say Gates is a third or fourth rounder. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Aloco, pretty stupid question on many levels. If he did, you think I'd tell you? If he didn't, you think I'd tell you?

Be better than that.

hennes stats buffered by check downs. sanchez comes up big consistently with the game on the line, makes plays. henne fades like a dead flower.

wow!!! t- money to da rayduhz!! sucks

free agency my friends this FO better get it together

Barrett Wallace if you are a child I apologize.

Whatever Gil says is the truth, that guy is a guru.

please lets leave henne convo for another day

finatic13: to answer your question, it's because logic and reason elude many people on here. If you're gonna base your opinions on logic and reason, rather than anecdotal evidence and hyperbole, please join myself and Craig M in the "Swimming Upstream Club"

Jets just grabbed a good player, the Bilal kid from Louisville. Dang.

Taiwan Jones Going to the Raiders shows how Al Davis has a fetish for Black guys that can run!

I tell ya, that corp of WR's is rounding up. All we need is also a speedy TE and, broder, with the right QB on, forget it.

Armando...are Wallace, Moore, and Sheets all history now?

1st 15 Mike Pouncey
2nd 62 Daniel Thomas
4th 111 Edmond Gates

6th Delone Carter RB Syracuse/ Charles Clay HB Tulsa

7th Lee Smith TE Marshall/ Julius Thomas TE Portland St

7th T.J. Yates QB UNC/ Adam Froman QB Louisville

i dont see daniel thomas and reggi buch or even sproles who both i really like being a good one two punch combo

i think we cant settle for anything less then Deangelo now

sproles or reggie are not every down backs and we cant put the weight of this teams on the shoulder of d thomas

so wee need another power/but explosive back like d williams

if he is healthy of course

Taiwan Jones to the Raiders means Darren Sproles will be on the radar for the Dolphins.

Sproles is obviously a UFA option, not draft.

Why are the experts making such a big deal over the rookies from today not getting a playbook? Can't the vets/rookies that already have playbooks share them with those that don't?

Delone is gone... Jamie Harper Clemson RB

Jets just showed us how to pick a rb. Bilal Powell led the Big east in rushing. Every down back but extremely explosive...fast.quick feet..strong and can elude. Dude will get carries from day one and be a game breaker. Headaches on the way for our defense trying to chase this kid down.

i ve been saying sproles since the season ended lol

if they took gates they obviously weren't interested in Taiwan Jones.

I wonder what Miami does with their next pick but there are a few nice change of pace, special teams type RBs left that could really contribute

Derrick Locke
Jaquizz Rodgers
Jordan Toddman
Noel Devine

He Bernard Scott firs cuzzzin cuz!!!

The Bad news is if Henne is still CheckDown Chad than little Darren Sproles is gonna get killed!

We may very well need 2 FA QBs to fill out the roster. Unless Thigpen sticks around that is. Productive draft so far. No complaints given how few picks we had. Just hope we can overcome that old saying "you're only as strong as your weakest link."

Is Julius Thomas gone?

Matthew, assuming these picks know each other, they can get the copies of the playbooks. I don't know how many of these guys know each other.

str8 why is Powell rated so low on ESPN. I know ESPN is always right but they have him graded out real low.

Wrong again Scout9. see finatic13, this is what i mean by anecdotal evidence. Scout9 just made the argument that Sanchez is great in the 4th quarter. Why? Because thats the conventional wisdom. Yet i just looked up "4th Q passer rating" from last year. Sanchez was not in the top 20.

Scout, it takes 30 seconds to look this stuff up instead of just spouting off misinformation

Sproles would also be a welcome addition for the Miami Dolphins

Home loves that elusive wet watermelon seed game changing go to RB

that was sarcasim incase u missed it on ESPN

A mistake learn from the ted ginn draft, this where you draft a punt returner project receiver. I hope as well that he is tougher than ted ginn and can catch contested passes.

Know each other?

You don't think that Henne/Marshall can't find out where the draft picks live?

Sanchez has been worst than Henne for the last two seasons. Just because he has a better team than the Dolphins everyone thinks he is better. Do the research and you will see.

Andy: Todman is more than a change of pace guy. He's got feature back skills. I'd rather have him than Thomas
