When the draft resumes this afternoon, I'm hoping the Dolphins land a certain RB that I've had my eyes on for a while whose name I will not type here because, believe it or not, I've recently learned at least one rival AFC team reads this blog for updates on what the Dolphins are thinking -- obviously not recognizing that I don't know squat about squat.
Joke's on them!
Nonetheless, I won't mention this RBs name at this point, not that it's a big secret.
Lookit, the Dolphins need speed today. It is lacking for them on offense. It is lacking on defense, although not to the same degree. It is definitely lacking on special teams.
Speed, speed, speed, speed, speed, speed!
When Bill Parcells first started constructing this team it started looking like a mirror image of the 1990 New York Giants for a while there. The Dolphins were big, hulking, and bulking. This team looks very imposing in the airport.
But the game has changed since 1990 and is played on the field not in an airport. So the plodding Fins have some adjusting to do.
They need speed to be more dynamic. They need speed to make sure those kickoff returns and punt returns stop going 90 yards in the other direction. They need speed to do something that we haven't seen around here a lot lately: Blow somebody up with a 90-yard punt return of their own, or hit them on a 74-yard run, or throw a 68-yard bomb over the top of their defense, or return an interception 101 yards.
So my hope is today is about turning the Incredible Hulk into Flash. Or something like that.
The hope for today is a:
Change of pace fast RB.
A return man. Must be ... fast.
(Hopefully the Dolphins can get two for one by having the fast RB also be a fast return guy.)
OLB help to punish Tom Brady and Slim Shady now that they're boys in New England.
Maybe a NT. He's the only one that doesn't need to be fast. Don't sleep on the NT, by the way.
[NOTE: Live blog happening right here at noon. Yesterday was the biggest day on this blog in all of 2011. Enormous! Thank you. And thanks to that team for checking in. I don't know anything.]

I hope they get Yates

Henne way to robotic

I'm not right all the time. I just pass along information the Dolphins gave me.
The official height on Gates is 5-11 7/8 according to combine information I have.

Diesel
I would say Palmer is best option if we can get him without hurting ourselves
Posted by: Richard | April 30, 2011 at 02:09 PM
Why worry Gates height. Believe me, he wasnt picked to throw JUMP BALLS to. LOL..............

Posted by: SureShockMiami | April 30, 2011 at 02:10 PM
Richard, thats what we are trying to tell this idiot, he thinks he is like 5;8" or something. He is the only guy that doesnt like the pic on this board and he thinks everyone else is wrong. It is his opinion so who cares but the guy doesnt shut up.
Posted by: finatic13 | April 30, 2011 at 02:10 PM
Parcells blew it

It's not the height it's the weight. When he goes accross the field and one of those monsters LB's hit him, what then?
Posted by: oscar canosa | April 30, 2011 at 02:11 PM
I'm starting to be impressed with Jeff Ireland!
He's a gunslinger! Moving up into the second and getting the second coming of OJ Anderson! in Danile Thomas but with more speed. And then shooting for the speedster Edmund Gates! who has good hands and great speed and will also play special teams.
Ireland sticking to the core principles of tough hard nosed football but with speed.
I love the Pouncey pick!
So now we have a young good rb with a much much better O-line and a player who stretches the field for all the playmakers!
Now we need a TE!
Dolphins4life!
Posted by: Dolphins4life | April 30, 2011 at 02:11 PM
Gotta love our fins. Ireland and sparano mende the fences????
Posted by: koamisi | April 30, 2011 at 02:12 PM
I'm still sitting here wondering what we are going to do about TE. I just can't see going into another season with only Fasano. What if he gets hurt???
Anyone have the scoop on FA TE's?
Posted by: 0x80 | April 30, 2011 at 02:12 PM
And that eighth of an inch should not matter because the combine info I have is Gates had a 40-inch vertical leap.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | April 30, 2011 at 02:13 PM
Hey Price Master, let me ask you a question.
If you are defending a QB that does not make good, accurate decisions with the ball, how would you defend him?
I would stack the line of scrimmage, to stop the running game, and I would force that QB, who is not a good decision maker, to beat me with him arm. I would have run blitzes and I would bring more people than you could block and force that QB to do what he has not been able to do.
That is what Defensive Coordinators did to this team last year and that is what they will continue to do until Henne proves that he can read and beat the blitz.
To back up my statement, here is a quote from DeAngelo Williams about the QB play.
“It’s all going to boil down to quarterbacks,” Williams said. “In this league, the running game is all predicated on if you have a quarterback or not. If you don’t have a quarterback, teams stack the box and they force you to do what you do best.”
-----------------------------------------------
Now this may be to much, coming from a kid and all but why don't you offer something to rebute my points.
Posted by: Barrett Wallace | April 30, 2011 at 02:13 PM
Gates picked to run by people. He's already doing good job running by posters in here! LOL.............
Posted by: DyingBreed | April 30, 2011 at 02:13 PM
Matthew, its not about the 1", its about Scout9 being obtuse and anecdotal and not being able to take being called out on it. Just be a man and admit when you're wrong, I do it all the time. We all do it on here. i did a complete 180 on Jake Locker last week. Just an annoying stubbornness to have to be right all the time
Posted by: GarbagePlate | April 30, 2011 at 02:13 PM
Armando did you see his broad jump stats from the combine, WOW
Posted by: finatic13 | April 30, 2011 at 02:14 PM
DJ Williams to the Packers.
Posted by: UTdolfan | April 30, 2011 at 02:15 PM
lol, ill eat some crow on that DB
Posted by: finatic13 | April 30, 2011 at 02:15 PM
GATES PICKED TO RUN 2 PATTERNS. POST AND FLY! LOL................
Posted by: DyingBreed | April 30, 2011 at 02:15 PM
Wow...Just avoided disaster..A propane pipe busted and was hemoraging gas into the bar...Holy moly am I glad we weren't open today. It would have been all she wrote for ol'DD
I see Jones went to the Raiders..Nice call DB!
Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | April 30, 2011 at 02:15 PM
that sucks well whos left at TE that can be a deep threat with hands
Posted by: finatic13 | April 30, 2011 at 02:15 PM
DJ Williams gone... Also the pats got Marcus Cannon...
Posted by: beerphin | April 30, 2011 at 02:16 PM
The Pack just took DJ Williams. The Phins need to do something to secure Virgil Green. He's the last hope left on the TE board...and I think he gets taken soon. This sucks.
Posted by: Ian | April 30, 2011 at 02:16 PM
DyingBreed,
Two patterns are enough for me if it means 7 in the box and an opposing OC has to spend time game-planning for him.
Posted by: Matthew Stevens | April 30, 2011 at 02:17 PM
3 routes, you forgot the bubble screen
Posted by: finatic13 | April 30, 2011 at 02:17 PM
Wow, the Pack took DL Williams? And they have JerMichael Finley. Thats quite the TE duo
Posted by: GarbagePlate | April 30, 2011 at 02:17 PM
Barrett Wallace , You have a good point the problem is though with the Lockout BS why risk drafting a QB when the depth of talent isnt that great knowing your going to have to groom him anyway. Who is going to teach him Henne ? lol. Stick with Henne , pick up QB in FA and draft a better QB next year if he sucks again
Posted by: Richard | April 30, 2011 at 02:17 PM
DD,
WAS WAITING FOR YOU TO GET HERE. TOLD YOU JONES WOULD BE A RAIDER. JUST SHOCKED AL DAVIS WAITED SO LONG! LOL.........
Posted by: DyingBreed | April 30, 2011 at 02:17 PM
DJwills is goin to ball in green bay!!
Posted by: SureShockMiami | April 30, 2011 at 02:17 PM
Armando...Mike Wallace also had a 40in vert. I got him listed at 6' 1/4 "...
Again, hate to keep coming back to this comparison, but I believe they are almost identical players on paper.
And Mike Wallace has had a HUGE impact in Pittsburgh.
Posted by: Bogota Phin Fan | April 30, 2011 at 02:18 PM
FLY, POST, AND BUBBLE SCREEN FOR GATES GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME TOO FELLAS! LOL........
Posted by: DyingBreed | April 30, 2011 at 02:18 PM
Gates is a great athlete! And played Basketball and has a 40 vertical.
As a football player he needs route running to be polished up quite a bit. But has that pure raw speed that when this guys gets the hang of his routes man look out, he has good hands, huge upside!
Posted by: Dolphins4life | April 30, 2011 at 02:18 PM
If gates can utelize his speed to get separation from defenders when running routes he then will have the skills to be a very good wr...I really like this pick...don't know if Ireland will draft another rb since he traded up for one in the second round as that pick is clearly his "baby".
Posted by: Flipper13 | April 30, 2011 at 02:18 PM
Some really good players flying off the board right now.
Posted by: MojoMark | April 30, 2011 at 02:18 PM
40 inch vert!! thats nasty!!
Posted by: SureShockMiami | April 30, 2011 at 02:19 PM
Breed,
Turn off the 'CAPS LOCK'! lol
Posted by: Matthew Stevens | April 30, 2011 at 02:19 PM
DJ Williams going to Green Bay only means he'll be a star in two years. Yes, Finley is awesome, but they'll go double tight with Williams in the slot and he'll kick butt. Guaranteed.
Sheesh.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | April 30, 2011 at 02:19 PM
Armando Gates is just over 6 feet
not 5.11
Ted Ginn was 5.11
Perhaps u r confused like when u said RB Thomas was a one cut runner that burst through holes
When in reality Thomas is a "patient runner"
just like Ronnie Brown
aka as "hesitating and dancing through holes
Lay of B-Marsh for being a "Victim"
Armando u r not a detective and u were not there
Ronnie Brown was arrested for drunk driving
So every time he drives is he also drunk?
U make no sense
Please stop making up crimes for B-Marsh
and NO he doesn't have other issues to deal with
B-Marsh has not been charged witha crime
Think he did pretty good last season playing in only 14 games and being doubled and even triple covered all season
Combine that w the inaccuracies of QB Chad Henne and a porous O-line
Posted by: Home | April 30, 2011 at 02:20 PM
AARON RODGERS WILL MAKE DJ WILLIAMS A PRO BOWLER IN 1ST YEAR. HE'S NOW #1 ON MY LIST FOR OROY. BETTER GET HIM YOUR FANTASY TEAMS FELLAS! LOL..........
Posted by: DyingBreed | April 30, 2011 at 02:20 PM
i think we can get Williams from Car if we want. he wants to sign with us and he would be a perfect fit at RB
Posted by: finatic13 | April 30, 2011 at 02:20 PM
Surprised Virgil Green is still on the board so is Dion Lewis , maybe we can snag one
Posted by: Richard | April 30, 2011 at 02:20 PM
I still like Kitna in FA. Don't care if he's 48..er 38 or not. Smart, tough and this young team needs a veterain leader. Doesn't matter if he's under contract, we never have a problem trading with Dallas.
Posted by: Chris in the 623 | April 30, 2011 at 02:20 PM
thats exactly what i wanted for us Armando lol
oh well he didnt drop i reall didnt think hed last this long
now what?
Posted by: SureShockMiami | April 30, 2011 at 02:21 PM
GarbagePlate...nice job incorporating the word "obtuse" into this otherwise Miami-Dade County Public School message board.
Posted by: Bogota Phin Fan | April 30, 2011 at 02:21 PM
Matthew Stevens,
Since you asked so nicely. lol...........
Posted by: DyingBreed | April 30, 2011 at 02:21 PM
Armando,
What do you give the dolphins draft grade so far?
I have to give them a solid B+. They don't get an A because we didn't address the QB position but all other picks I'm pretty happy with.
Posted by: CaymanDolfan | April 30, 2011 at 02:21 PM
where did Dion Lewis play and what are his stats? I havent heard of him.
Posted by: finatic13 | April 30, 2011 at 02:22 PM
Also add in the play calling of Dan Henning forcing the nonexistent running game and the often called failed Wildcrap and B-Marsh did just fine earning over 1000 yds
Posted by: Home | April 30, 2011 at 02:22 PM
finatic,
We only get Williams if there is a new CBA. Otherwise (ie 2010 rules apply) he is a restricted FA and Miami will not/should not give up a high pick for him.
Posted by: Matthew Stevens | April 30, 2011 at 02:22 PM
finatic he got overplayed by wannsted in pittsburgh had better stats freshmen year
Posted by: SureShockMiami | April 30, 2011 at 02:24 PM
when do the fins pick again?
Posted by: capamando | April 30, 2011 at 02:24 PM
That blows
Posted by: finatic13 | April 30, 2011 at 02:24 PM
Armando,
Are you kidding? Rodgers makes DJ Williams pro boler in year one. Better get him on your fantasy team! LOL........
Posted by: DyingBreed | April 30, 2011 at 02:24 PM
matthew theyre going to release him cuz he is too expensive to keep around
Posted by: SureShockMiami | April 30, 2011 at 02:24 PM
