Mike Sims-Walker? Really?
I've had a handful of e-mails from fans suggesting I check out the story about erstwhile Jacksonville Jaguars receiver's intention of joining the Dolphins once the lockout ends. So, being one that eventually takes a hint, I checked out the original post from which the rumors are now heating up.
All I can say is we're hurting for something to talk about. The post is a conversation between a reporter and a player. It's good stuff. But it never says Sims-Walker is headed to Miami. All it says is the receiver, friends with former University of Central Florida teammate Brandon Marshall, would like to reunite with Marshall.
"Me and him, our relationship on the field and off the field, we make each other better," Sims-Walker told the Florida Times-Union. "We compete with each other so much that we're going to bring the best out of each other every single minute. That will be the best thing for the whole team."
That does not mean Sims-Walker is headed to Miami. Will he shop his services with the Dolphins? Probably. Will he shop his services with the 30 other teams not headquartered in Jacksonville and Miami? Probably.
Sims-Walker will be hunting for a job after the lockout ends. I'd get interested if and when the Dolphins are hunting for Sims-Walker.
And I would not exactly bet on that happening for several reasons:
1. He is injury prone. He missed all of 2007 with a knee injury. He had various nagging heres and theres last season, including an ankle injury.
2. He is outgoing and vivacious and at times provocative. The Dolphins hate outgoing and vivacious and at times provocative.
3. He's had only one good season -- that in 2009 -- out of four in the NFL. That means he's hitting .250 which isn't too good.
4. The Dolphins have young, hard-working, faster players in the pipeline -- including Marlon Moore, Edmond "Clyde" Gates, and Roberto Wallace.
5. The Dolphins have needs above wide receiver that they will almost surely address ahead of wide receiver. The wide receiver position, barring some significant move with Marshall, is not likely going to be a position of major upheaval.
Other than that, sure, Sims-Walker might become a Dolphin.

marshall was a mistake, we all know that now

The name of this game is collecting talent....either thu the draft, FA, or undrafted players......
If Sims-Walker is a talent.....then collect him.....he can always be used later in a trade.....or allows us to trade other potential talent....surely Hartine is worth his orginal value........
Collect talent.....then make smart decisions with that talent....

Everyone that wants Marshall traded is a joke. He's the only skill player that made NFL networks current top 100 players by FAR which is an extremely hard list. Your logic is sense less. Trying to trade our only player that DEMANDS double teams. Dont worry about his troubles. Worry about your own S*** life. Go Fins!

Everyone wanting Marshall traded are jetsfans. They only want to see him traded to the crapdusters.

Undecided on BM. A man with that humongous talent but impeded by his other faculties is not worthy of criticism but rather of compassion.

The NFLPA should impeach Demaurice Smith. They should fire him, impeach, whatever it takes to get his dullard a s s out of the way of a new deal!
How long did he know a new deal needed to be done?
How long will it be before he comes up with an ORIGINAL thought?
I can't even stand to look at the slack jawed, slope headed dumbass!

OK
I live in Atlanta, and was planning to go to the Falcons vs Dolphins pre-season game on August 12th.
I can get 40 yard line seats just behind the Dolphin bench, for 50.00.
Is it a waste of money, considering the lockout?
Posted by: HAWK1052 | May 20, 2011 at 07:43 AM
DeMaurice Smith has passion alright. He has passion when it comes to trying to steal money from his employer.
He and his cohorts think they're ENTITLED to 50% of their employers profits. They believe that because they have suits and law degrees behind them, their different than common low life thieves!
They should be prosecuted for ignorance, greed an attempted theft!
Shut Up and PLAY!!!!

Mondo, Me thinks you nailed this one.....
Posted by: WileyDolphin | May 20, 2011 at 09:20 AM
Nice player but I'm not sure he fits. SOmething tells me that if there wasn't a strike the Dolphins would have looked to trade Hartline. As it is there is just too many players at WR. At some point they need to work Gates into the equation too. It's a nice idea but there are only so many players that fit on the roster. Highly doubtful that it's going to happen.

This Sims Walker guy reminds me of a loud, talk-to-much David Boston. He can't catch, has a ton of talent, but runs his mouth like he is Jerry Rice.
Posted by: Poizen | May 20, 2011 at 09:45 AM
DID YOU SEE THE NFL NETWORKS SHOW ABOUT THE BEST 1000 PLAYER EVER IT WAS MR JERRY RICE THEY PUT ON THE TOP OF ALL TIMES . IT IS FUNNY HE PLAY IN SAN FRACISCO BECAUSE THERE WERE IN THE OLDEN DAYS THE ADS FOR ((RICE A RONI THEW SAN FRACISCO TREAT)) WITH THE TROLEY THAT WOULD GO DING DING DING. AND JERRY ((RICE)) PLAYS THERE.

Mando,
Perhaps the headline should have read:
"Mediocre Wide Receiver Seeks Mediocre Team"
Posted by: Tracy474 | May 20, 2011 at 11:16 AM
Umm, just read Mr. Mara's piece about the lockout hurting players. And for the most part I agree. In the end, the players will lose more than the Owners, so it's in their best interest to compromise.
But, excuse me, haven't the players already said they were willing to give back money? They'd just like to see the books to see how much is fair. Regardless, from everything I've read/seen on TV, the players understand this last contract (that the Owners signed by the way) is skewed too much to their favor and needs to be reworked.
But to ask players to give up money AND play more games is going too far. I say both sides compromise, the players agree to give up money, while the Owners get off the 18-game schedule kick and get some of the things they've been asking for (reduced salaries of draftees, etc). Both sides give up a little and gain a little. That's the only way a deal will be made folks. You can't force one side to take it or leave it. That's the Republican way and you see the disaster of that strategy.
