Marc Bulger perhaps more attractive than you think

Marc Bulger.

I advise you to think Marc Bulger.

Why, you ask in an inquisitive voice, should I think of Marc Bulger on the Memorial Day weekend? Well, as I shared with you in a previous post, the NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora was reporting the Broncos are more likely than not to keep Kyle Orton when the season eventually gets underway. That seemingly eliminates one semi-attractive veteran quarterback option.

Yet another post this week had Bengals owner Mike Brown swearing Carson Palmer won't be traded, thus putting a dead end sign on that possible veteran QB avenue.

The possibilities are dwindling, folks.

So today when LaCanfora did his weekly segment on my radio show, Armando and the Amigo, I had to ask, what legitimate most likely options that leaves the Dolphins? We both agreed not Kevin Kolb of Philadelphia. We both agreed not likely Donovan McNabb.

We both agreed Marc Bulger is a possibility.

Disclaimer: The last time I saw Bulger play was 2008 in St. Louis and he looked tentative, worn, and frankly, a little afraid to stand in the pocket. I thought he was done. LaCanfora acknowledged that Bulger was not good in his latter Rams days. But he told me something I didn't know about Bulger's most recent stint as a backup with Baltimore in 2010.

"I have some pretty good sources on the Ravens," he said. "When I talked to people there they were very impressed with Bulger. They told me when he's on the field and running the offense, the ball often doesn't hit the ground ... They believe he's going to be a very good quarterback in 2011. They would love to keep him in Baltimore as the backup but they think someone will sign him to compete to start or be a bridge quarterback and a pretty good one at that."

Bulger makes sense for Miami because he does have plenty of experience. He has had time to recover from the beating he suffered in 2008-2009. He won't require draft choice compensation. He won't be extremely expensive to sign. He is not exclusively a West Coast offense guy like McNabb and others. And the last time someone took a chance on a seemingly washed up former St. Louis QB, it paid off handsomely.

Kurt Warner went from New York Giants has-been to Super Bowl QB in Arizona.

I'm not saying Bulger will reap similar benefits for his next team. I'm not saying he will be the answer to Miami's QB problems for the next five years. The truth of the matter is the Dolphins are not likely to find that guy in free agency or via trade. Those guys don't just show up on your doorstep.

So if that is what you're hoping for, don't bank on it. I've told you, Peyton Manning isn't signing with Miami.

I'm just saying don't dismiss Bulger out of hand as a Miami possibility. He might not turn the franchise around. But he would serve as competition fo Chad Henne. At this point, that may be the only possbility the Dolphins might be left with.

Aloco,

Your right Sapp must be a fan of the Pro Athlete Gang of deafeat leader Barkley, you know you shoud probably start a gangs of defeat from looser players instead of your fellow bloggers, just an idea and you can start with "Sir" excuse me I mean "Miss" Charles Barkley, Daisy Duke and Sapp.

I WONDER WHY CHARLES HATES MIAMI,MAYBE ITS HIS DEIT.,OR LACK OF ONE.

DIET, SORRY TYPO.

Aloco,

It`s the mojito`s and Cuban food to go with his black eyed peas and you know what a bad mix that is, so he can`t sit and do the shows in Miami cause because Ernie Johnson will ask him to leave, to much Barkley stank farts on the air.

MOJITOS AND BLACKBEANS HAVE BEEN DEEMED A W.M.D FROM THE UNITED NETIONS.

Barkley is classless he sits live on the air cutting farts, picking his nose and butt while sniffing, haven`t you seen how he tries to play it cool with his hand always under his nose.

Really Armando. Those guys don't show up on your doorstep Huh. Hmmm that really makes me think about your qualifications as a writer. I remember just a few years ago 1 of those guys did show up on our doorstep. Ohh thats right we took Culpepper instead. Nice pic Saban. DREW BREES WAS ON OUR FRIGGIN DOORSTEP MEATHEAD !!!!!

Aloco,

Take it easy I haven`t been in Key West in years gonna go with my friends into town and do a little sight seeing, enjoy your Memorial Weekend!!

EVAN MY FRIENDS UP HERE SIAD WHY IS CHERLS ANTI MIAMI,FIRST AGAINS THE CELTS THEN AGAINST THE BULLS,ALWAYS SAYING THAT BOTH TEAMS WOULD BEAT THE HEAT.

Aloco,

Barkley disses the Heat because he was to stupid and waited to long to go join Pippen and Hakeem in Houston and retired without ever winning anything. So he says he hates the decision but secretly he wishes he could still play and be a Heat player

Enjoy your Memorial Weekends!!!!

YOU TO.

Derek4Dolphins, I agree with you, 100%.

"Dismissing Chad Henne before we see him play under anyone other then Dan Henning may be one of the most foolish things Miami would ever do."

I admit to wanting Henne gone after last season. But have reconsidered after learning:

Henning playcalling was atrocious.

Not just atrococious but also predicatable to where opposing D's knew what play was coming.

Henning / Sparano gave Henne no ability to call audibles. Unfathomable in today's game. Even Sanchize gets to call audibles.

Run game was poor.

Henning calls WildCat plays when Henne is in rhythym and making throws. What sense does that make?

Mr. Conservative, Sparano order 3 running plays when the Fins are on the 30 yard line to get in better position for the FG - instead of letting Henne pass and going for a potential TD. Can't count how many times I saw that.

With a more varied offense under Dabol, a better run game with Pouncey and Daniel Thomas (i hope) a guy like Clay to implement various sets, and a deep threat in Gates Henne now has a chance, to improve his play and the Fins O.

The only caveat is that all the guys mentioned above have never played in an NFL game. Nor has Kory Sheets who could be, should be the speed back the Fins need.

Pouncey, Thomas, Clay, Gates, Sheets - on paper they will all solve many of the problems on O, and help Henne be a better player.

But will they do that on the field? Is it a safe bet to say that 5 rookies are all going to come through and play well as rooks?

No. But hope springs eternal.

I'm going to think about peppermint hand sanitizer today.

Later, I shall expose myself at Home Depot.

All this qb talk all offseason and ratings, accomplishments, etc just shows us that we have something good with Henne. He matches up very well with these guys. Maybe that is an eye-opener for the fans. And Henne has the upside that he is young and on his way up, not getting toward the end of a career like these guys.

I don't see where Salguero thinks Bulger is so attractive. He's OK looking, and I wouldn't throw him out of bed but nothing spectacular.

Now Tyler Thigpen, that's another matter. TOTAL hottie. Mmmm, mmmm.

I'm always truly amazed at some fans apparent Dolphin 'fans' have thrown in the towel on Henne and Sparano and company before a single snap is ever taken. These are the guys who will declare 'I've supported this team through thick and thin', when the Dolphins finally have some success......No you haven't. You've criticized and complained and whined and second-guessed all the way along. I've said it before but that's not a fan. A fan has SOME confidence in what the team and regime are doing, not criticize every move. These are the guys who say Henne isn't good enough. Fair enough....who is it you guys want? Manning, Brees, Brady and Rodgers aren't available. So who's next? What do Jets fans do? They get behind their team, despite the fact they've been one of the jokes in the NFL for years and despite the fact they have a QB running the show with inferior numbers to Henne. That's what being a 'true fan' is all about. It's fine to question a team's decision but to write a team off before a single snap has been taken is nothing more than a 'defeatist'. I don't consider you a fan of the same team I cheer for. Not even the Bills or Browns fans talk about their teams that way. Reality check guys...

Je pense à ma petite toilette et toutes les choses merveilleuses que je laisse à l'intérieur.

Craig M | May 28, 2011 at 12:39 PM

The Jets win games, make the best of what they have. Fins make the least of what they have. Huge difference there.

Craig M you sir speak the truth!!!!!!
And I agree with you 100%
The fact that I read some so called fans who
Want us to tank the season so the fins can get Andrew luck really why would anybody want there team to lose they are not true fans

More discussion of wicker furniture, bees, gelatin, and Neo-Realist art trends of the 1960's please.

bulger very good option. hes cheap, accurate, smart. he would easily beat out henne.

I have been to Tampa.

Charles Nelson Reilly

Today's question....who does America owe it's greatest debt to????

George Washington, Julia Childs, and Jack LaLane.

Izar,

Our Nation owes a debt to many but for me the most deserving is President Thomas Jefferson, he expanded the Country by buying the Lousiana Purchase from Napoleon and funding the Lewis and Clarck expeditions going West which tripled the size of our Nation.

Todays question... who does America owe its greatest dedt to ?????????

The.... P.O.W.

Hey "Image"

ON BULGERS WORST DAY, HE'S TWICE AS GOOD AS HENNE WILL EVER BE,.,.,.,. EVER...!
WE AIN'T GOIN TO THE P,LAYOFFS REGARDLESS ...!

Henne sucks & he will never lead us into the playoffs.
There isn't 1 single NFL team out there that would offer a 4th rnd pk for Henne.
We screwed up big time.

We ain't gonna settle our long term QB problems in 2011.
We just need some one to give Henne some competition for 1 year.

You ain't gotta like it but that's the bed we made ignoring the QB position & trading away draft pks.

We may have to draft QBs in the 1 st/and or 2nd rnd for the next couple of yrs just like everybody else who regularly goes to the Playoffs.

There are no short cuts or magic crystal balls you just gotta go out & invest & spend 3 yrs developing high grade talent.

America owes its greatest debt to Britney Spears, Maury Povich, and. Gallagher. These titans of culture and intellectual achievement proclaim to all the world the greatness of America. Sarah Palin and Justin Bieber, too.

Been a while since I been on...

Apathy is running rampant with me and this lockout.

Craig M, You got to get off the whole "You NO FAN if you complain thing".

Discussing differing opinions, mindsets, guesses and ideas are EXACTLY why most here show up.

You want some zany chorus of a bunch of people all singing the exact same song and all nodding in agreement??? ....BORING!

As much as my eyes have seen with Henne is all I need to know about my opinion of him as a starter. Could he improve...possibly. Will he improve? I am not believing so. Since I actually believe I am assessing it correctly (just as passionately as you are saying he is the real deal give him more rope) that is why I am a naysayer or detractor.

Henning and the old QB coach may have contributed to Henne struggling but I'm not going with the whole "Handcuff" the kid theory. Henne had endless throws where the time was there, the patern was there and he simply was not accurate with the throw.

WR Ed Gates has speed...so did Ginn so that's not the big answer. Henne heated up and was pulled for wildcat. Henne was dealt some lame 3rd and longs but there is no way of knowing whether he advances the ball if he is in there all the time.

After all his time at center he stared receivers down just as much as his rookie year, he still was unaware enough NOT to quick snap the ball when the other team was a mile offside, he looked at the rush as much or more than ever, he was erratic with the game on the line serving up picks on numerous occasions. Some were not his fault but that could be said on any play with any QB. Bottom line numbers are what counts...wins/losses, TD's/Int's, making a play vs not.

Pointing out and making a case for reasons I don't believe Henne will get it done definitely doesn't make me less of a fan than you. I would give you the nod of being a bigger homer that supports the team with zero backtalk even if they make moves that others (media or fans) question.

I had a QB I liked in the draft but to come out of the draft without even a flyer QB of some sort seems shortsighted beyond belief.

The one thing we ALL would agree on is we need better QB play...period. Whether it be Henne getting better or any other option fathomable. Not drafting a QB at all takes away the latent crap shoot chance you have to uncork a Brady type pick.

I'm a diehard Fins fan and I think that was a very bad turn of events. Hang me for not being all rah rah.

Cheers,

Of the options we have left at QB I think it would go, in order... (Orton and Palmer left out as I believe they wont be in play)

VY. He is the youngest. He has the most upside athletically, he has already won quite a bit being 30-17 as a starter, Sparano has had decent luck with troubled souls Incognito, Marshall. If our line is bad his movement skills would help extend plays or gash a DEF with the run.

Hasselbeck. He looked pretty good in his playoff win over the World Champion Saints. I believe his attitude would fit with the Bifecta. I think he would come fairly reasonably cheap.

Bulger. He is my last option. He may have something left in the tank but, I don't see a huge turnaround like Warner brought to the Cards. He would have to come cheap.

For the record Orton would be first on this list in terms of coming right in and beating out Henne. His price would kill the deal for me most likely.

As for Palmer. He has revealed a lack of passion for the game and that kills it for me. Who's to say if he became a Fin he wouldn't mail it in if things did not go well. Bengals would ask for too much and Mike Brown won't trade him anyways. Mute subject.

Cheers,

Why don't we just sign Vinny Testaverde? This team should have drafted a QB every year until they found a franchise player. None of the washed up has beens referenced in this article will lead us to a championship.

Happy Memorial Day.

Grondz

Even a platypus is posting here. What else?

I do so hate rethreads.

oscar canosa la babosa.....you think you are funny???? You sir are a joke hahahahahahhah

Craig M take a flying leap you A-Hole

IDIOCRACY IS ON THE COMEDY CHENEL,DAX SHEPERD SHOULD HAVE WON A OSCAR.

Anyone who wants orton seem to forget to realize how pathetic a qb he really is. What was there record last year? Any other year he been good?
Dolphins have no chance this year, almost makes me
Hope for the lockout.

nice imposter post @ 10:19

Using a zero instead of the capital letter o for the OC portion of my screen name. Clever.

I go back and forth with Craig M all the time (even though we agreed that QB Colin Kaepernick would have been a good addition).

He knows I would not come at him with that sort of trash talk. Just not my thing to sling mud in that direct attack manor.

Cheers,

inimounts,

Are the Fins really in a QB position to talk about how pathetic Orton is?

His TD to Int ratio over the last 3 years would smoke Henne's. Since we come up with field goals quite a bit I would think that part alone would make a big improvement in our offense. Plus the guy knows Brandon Marshall well and they have a chemistry.

In the end, Denver seems to want the guy so it's asking price would most likely be too high.

Cheers,

Faith in Henne! Probowl year coming up!

TODAY IT WILL BE GORMET BERAKFAST TIME. TO MAKE BACON YOU PUT IN A SKILET AND IT WILL START TO SIZZELE ((NO BUTTER OR OIL IS NEEDED)) BECUASAE IT HAS ITS OWN OIL GREESE AND YOU PUT IT ON PAPER TOWLES FOR THAT. THEN EGGS ((SCRAMBELED)) YOU PUT THEM IN A BOWLK AND WISK WITH A FORK OR SPOON AND THEN IN A PAN AND THEN WAIT AND YOU CAN SCRAMBEL THEM . AND COFEE ALSO.

THE GANG OF DEFEAT WILL HAVE THERE PLAIN TOAST AND THEY ARE TOO POOR JOBLESS TO COOK THE FOOD OR COFEE NOT FROM DUKIN DONUTS.

Henne is the Quarterback I want to see, Dolphins do not need a revolving door when it comes to this position, Sure he has made some mistakes under pressure, sure he has made some bad throws or has had poor judgement at times, What Quarterback hasn't? Henne will get the job done, Just STFU and let him !

Bacon and eggs is gourmet breakfast? Yucko.

BACON IS THE CUT LINING FROM A PIG'S STOMACH...

have you ever seen how its made???

I try NOT to eat bacon unless I'm REALLY hungry!

D.C Dolfan, Please know your history in advance, and I'm not talking about reading Wikipedia or watching CNN, before putting yourself in this situation again.

MR SAXA THE BACON I HAVE COMES FROM THE MEAT PART OF THEW PIG THERE ISNT HIS STOMACH THERE. I GET IT IN THE STORE. THE GANG OF DEFEAT IS JOBLESS SO THEY CANT AFFORD IT AND HAVE TIO TRY TO CATRCH PIGS OUTSIDE THERE TRALER PARK.

Rob in OC,

I knew that wasn't you calling me an a-hole. We may disagree on things but we don't hate or throw names around. I agreed with you that Kaep would have been a good option and I agree with you that VY is probably going to be our best option in FA, based on age and skillset. Plus I think he will have a chip on his shoulder going forward. Vick picked his game up after almost seeing his career end. I'm thinking we'll see a new Vince Young this year too.

Rob, I also think you misread my post. I have NO problems with fans calling out the regime and players and not loving everything the team does.....in fact I think it's healthy. We have a RIGHT to express our opinions and not follow along like zombies. Freedom of sppech I have NO problem with. But where it crosses the line are those 'so-called' fans who criticize EVERYTHING the team does and has already thrown in the towel on this season. Ireland and company are trying to get better. They WANT to keep their jobs and would love to bring a Championship to Miami. Will they? No question, it's an uphill battle. But to the fans that try and make out that this guys are stupid or lazy or incompetent or uncaring or whatever else they are....it's BS!! I don't like the defeatist attitude that too many of the fans carry and I don't like this suggestion that we should THROW the season to get Andrew Luck.

What season? There isn't going to be any football this year.

Linda is broccoli, and Gary is cauliflower. Susan is zucchini, and Pedro is lima beans. Maggie is okra, and Herbert is corn. Deborah is string beans, and Theodore is asparagus.

Dear Mr. Aloco

"THE GANG OF DEFEAT IS JOBLESS SO THEY CANT AFFORD IT AND HAVE TIO TRY TO CATRCH PIGS OUTSIDE THERE TRALER PARK."

Why in Heaven would they have to look outside the trailer park ?

Its been my personel experience when I open the door of my trailor and step down my milk crate stairs that you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a loose pig.

Anywhoo LOL outside the trailor park...thats a good one

Soiled :)

Craig M,

Good post at 1:00pm. Glad you didn't take the bait with the fake post. We can agree and disagree on many things but as you stated...it is each persons right to free speech.

Where there are "Pollyanna's" there will always be "Doom and Gloomers". Kinda comes with the territory.

The draft didn't go at all like I wanted. (wanting to add QB Mallet and other speed guys). Those conservatives that said lets just build up around Henne pretty much got their way. We shall see what QB vet they add. I am wondering if they will offer any apologies if the Fins are simply middle of the road even after the OC switch, "better plays", "the handcuffs coming off", the extra help at Oline, RB, WR and TE. The F.O. gift wrapped a bunch of new parts to "Help Henne" succeed. I don't think this tact shows enough concern for if he doesn't make it. A QB should have been drafted...period. Unless of course they are sold on Thigpen or Bstetter. Time will tell how this shakes out.

Trading away multiple picks to get RB Thomas was a huge foible in my opinion. They coulda stayed put and added excellent pounder RB Alex Green (went to GB)in the 3rd and super fast RB Taiwan Jones with his great hands in the 4rth. Picked up WR Niles Paul as a fast, stout, tough guy receiver in the 5th. Still got C. Clay TE/H-Back from Tulsa in the 6th.

It's all coulda, woulda, shoulda now.

With the lockout it's hard to even put too much thought into football as it seems so distant right now.

Cheers,

GANG OF DEFEAT R PIGS LIVING IN TRALERS
