Marc Bulger.
I advise you to think Marc Bulger.
Why, you ask in an inquisitive voice, should I think of Marc Bulger on the Memorial Day weekend? Well, as I shared with you in a previous post, the NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora was reporting the Broncos are more likely than not to keep Kyle Orton when the season eventually gets underway. That seemingly eliminates one semi-attractive veteran quarterback option.
Yet another post this week had Bengals owner Mike Brown swearing Carson Palmer won't be traded, thus putting a dead end sign on that possible veteran QB avenue.
The possibilities are dwindling, folks.
So today when LaCanfora did his weekly segment on my radio show, Armando and the Amigo, I had to ask, what legitimate most likely options that leaves the Dolphins? We both agreed not Kevin Kolb of Philadelphia. We both agreed not likely Donovan McNabb.
We both agreed Marc Bulger is a possibility.
Disclaimer: The last time I saw Bulger play was 2008 in St. Louis and he looked tentative, worn, and frankly, a little afraid to stand in the pocket. I thought he was done. LaCanfora acknowledged that Bulger was not good in his latter Rams days. But he told me something I didn't know about Bulger's most recent stint as a backup with Baltimore in 2010.
"I have some pretty good sources on the Ravens," he said. "When I talked to people there they were very impressed with Bulger. They told me when he's on the field and running the offense, the ball often doesn't hit the ground ... They believe he's going to be a very good quarterback in 2011. They would love to keep him in Baltimore as the backup but they think someone will sign him to compete to start or be a bridge quarterback and a pretty good one at that."
Bulger makes sense for Miami because he does have plenty of experience. He has had time to recover from the beating he suffered in 2008-2009. He won't require draft choice compensation. He won't be extremely expensive to sign. He is not exclusively a West Coast offense guy like McNabb and others. And the last time someone took a chance on a seemingly washed up former St. Louis QB, it paid off handsomely.
Kurt Warner went from New York Giants has-been to Super Bowl QB in Arizona.
I'm not saying Bulger will reap similar benefits for his next team. I'm not saying he will be the answer to Miami's QB problems for the next five years. The truth of the matter is the Dolphins are not likely to find that guy in free agency or via trade. Those guys don't just show up on your doorstep.
So if that is what you're hoping for, don't bank on it. I've told you, Peyton Manning isn't signing with Miami.
I'm just saying don't dismiss Bulger out of hand as a Miami possibility. He might not turn the franchise around. But he would serve as competition fo Chad Henne. At this point, that may be the only possbility the Dolphins might be left with.

Wow! Wishing someones family member dead?

Rob in OC,
Well if my post was good at 1pm, yours was even better at 4:10. Surprisingly we agree with a lot of what was in your post.
I agree with you that a QB should have been drafted but when you consider 4 were gone by the time we drafted and we didn't have a second round pick, I don't think it's surprising we didn't end up with one. For me it was either going to be Kaepernick or Dalton and I think the fact we didn't have a second round pick was the reason we didn't end up getting one of these two guys. I think it would have cost us our first round pick next year to have been able to draft one of them in the second and I think we all would agree we would have been p*ssed had Ireland of done that. Thomas wasn't the guy I wanted. Leshoure was the guy I liked the best, followed by Ryan Williams. Failing that I would have liked to have seen Demarco Murray added. Again, with the way things fell, not having a second round and all, I don't think it was meant to be. I have no problem with what Ireland gave up to move up and take Thomas. When you look at it, he really gave up a fifth and a seventh to take the guy. Most of those guys don't usually work out, so now problem. I'm not NEARLY as sold on Taiwan Jones as you are.
And you're last comment is very accurate...it's kind of hard to even think or get excited about football these days. Each day and week that passes I feel less secure that there will be a season. I know there is a lot of posturing going on from both sides right now but the fact there are no discussions going on is disappointing.

I was in Sun Life Stadium this morning. I was down own field, the luxury box levels, locker room(eveen taking home a gatorade towel as a momento), even got to see the 2 SB trophies displayed in the trophy case.
Wow, it was so unbelievable to be able to do this today. It was all possible because I have a relative who actually works at Sun Life Stadium. Also got all kinds of inside scoops of stories going on that only those who are employed thier may have privy too.
Posted by: DyingBreed | May 29, 2011 at 11:11 PM
Oh yeah, also saw the elevator only Steven Ross himself and the coaches are privy to. The box seats right at the 50yd line. The lounge is very nice too.
Yeah and I saw the inside air conditioned batting cage the Marlins are using for pregame batting practice. The opposition batting practice cage is inside too, only it isnt airconditioned like that of the home team Marlins.
Posted by: DyingBreed | May 29, 2011 at 11:16 PM
What was really cool about the Dolphins locker room is that there are flat screen tv monitors encircling inside. So during halftime these guys are actually watching and hearing everything the tv announcers are saying about them and what they need to do to be successful in the 2nd half.
Guys doing the the full stadium tour this morning was just so fantastic!
Posted by: DyingBreed | May 29, 2011 at 11:19 PM
Bulger is done. His YPA and Rating fell every year after 2006, the last decent season he had as a starter. Hell, Trent Green in 2007 was a more viable option.
I'd rather just stick with Henne and Thigpen if Bulger is the alternative.

GO SOX, GO BRUINS!!. see that's how real teams and ccoaches do it. you get the best players that are out there to become a winner. the dolphins need to learn that is the way to do it. or do they enjoy being horrible every year?

it's going to be really embarassing when a wrestling event draws more people than the dolphins will!

The Platypus(puss? puses?)are rare and amazing animals(I know one who conducts a Radio show). They have hair(but also a bill) and produce a high-pitched squeaking sound like static in the Air. Platipussis, say the Aborigines, can be used to satisfy yourself sexually if the bushes are empty(however you must choose a female for that purpose as the male has a poisonous claw and can sting your d--k). After banging them on top of you, the Aborigines say you should place them gently in the water(they are also aquatic), and if they float, say a prayer for them(as they are also Sacred).

Craig M,
Excellent Post @ 7:20! I believe we think more alike than some of our verbal squabbles let on. I really like the backs you posted. If Murray stays healthy he has game. Leshoure is a hard runner as well. Thomas would be down my list a bunch. I say Alex Green in GB will be a stud. That's who I wanted Miami to get . You are correct, I like Taiwan Jones a lot and it sounds like you ate Luke warm on him at best. That's what makes the draft fun to guess the studs from the duds.
Thanks for the reply Craig. Cheers!

Bulger would be yet another in a long list of "Stop Gap" alternatives since Marino. He only excelled when he had among the best lines in the league, and when he was 4 or 5 years younger. I say start guessing the worst teams of next year's season, and try to trade something for their first rounders. If we can pull that off, then go for Andrew Luck.

On this special day we celebrate both our military gains and losses in the name of what we as a world nation treasure so dear. That is freedom and certain God given rights which are "inalienable rights" deesrving of all. No matter what creed, race, color, or religious affiliations.
May God continue to bless us and bestow upon us the fortitude to preserve these inalienable rights wherever and whenever tyranny threatens to tear it down. Happy Memorial Day to all and Godspeed!
