Scout loves AFC East draft work (except for Fins)

More draft grades coming your way. Normally, I give you mine (if you force me) and move on. But I want to share with you today the AFC East draft grades put out recently by Dave Razzano.

Why Razzano? He's got the credibility of having 22 years of scouting experience with the San Francisco 49ers, St. Louis Rams and Arizona Cardinals. He was around for five Super Bowls and three Super Bowl wins with those teams. So again, he has that credibility guys such as Mel Kiper and others (me included) do not have.

Razzano is not a big fan of the Dolphins draft. On his blog he gave the Dolphins' draft a D. It was one of five D grades Razzano passed out, with Miami joining Detroit, Atlanta, Carolina, Seattle. Razzano did not give out any Fs so, basically, the Dolphins got the lowest grade he gave out.

"OC Mike Pouncey is solid but the Dolphins still lack a quality QB," Razzano wrote. "The next two picks of RB Dan Thomas and WO Edmond Gates look like back-up types.  Late round DC Jimmy Wilson will contribute early on special teams."

That's tough. It gets tougher considering Razzano apparently liked the work Buffalo, New York and New England did.

He gave the Patriots an A. He gave the Bills a B. He gave the stinkin' Jets a B.

HAWK,

4 starters on the entire team?

can't be from this draft. Maybe Ponce. WR needs to learn routs, HB will be in on some plays and Thomas will be riding the pine when he starts leading the league in fumbles as he did in college. He will be a combo rusher in any event. neither 3 will be starters, although i do see them contributing 20-30 snaps a game.

Thomas is also turning 25 years old in a few months. While other top Rb will be in their prime from this draft, Thomas will already be retired. Tri-dummies strike again.

Mike Mayock

Safety - Boston College

Pro career

He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the tenth round (#265) of the 1981 NFL Draft. His playing career was with the New York Giants from 1982 to 1984.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Mayock

MAYCOK WAS LOUSY NFL PLAYER FOR 2 YEARS THEN HE SAT ON HIS BEHIND AND BOUGHT FEW NICE SUITES AND BECAME AN EXPERT ..........

THAT'S WHY THE TUNA DOESN'T LIKE THESE GUYS .

arent most 4th rounders back ups? what a douche

Paitence is waining for me. Remember the only reason this regime has had ANY success at all is because Pennington fell out of the sky their 1st year. They have done very little to make me believe they will ever have anything but an average draft...I am still bitter about the Pats whipping them 38-7 in the final game when NE had nothing to play for other than the chance to embarrass Miami.

So, some yahoo hates the draft picks, boo-hoo, let's give up now and sit out the season.

I guess it depends WHICH 22 years he was at those teams, because I don't recall the 49ers being a legit team in the last 20 years. Rams had those few years as the Greatest Show on Turf, and the Cardinals had like 1 or 2 good years recently. So, if those are the credentials for this guy, BIG WOOP!!!!

Mando, this is stupid (and kind of a cop-out on your part). Let's hear about news that's actually HELPFUL to your followers. Maybe the thoughts of the FO, Coaches, etc. Let's hear from Brian Daboll (how he plans to utilize these players). How about what's going on with the players? I heard Drew Brees is setting up practices for his team, is Henne doing that? Or Dansby? Marshall? Anyone?

The Draft is over. We got who we got. No one will be able to say with any credibility how the Draft grades out until the year plays out. So let's get off these silly Day After draft grades. Anyone who gives Day After draft grades is a joke, and should be considered as a joke.

DC......... WE HEARED ENOUGH OF EVERY BODY ,DON'T YOU THINK ?

WE HEARD ENOUGH OF IRELAND ,SPARANO,DOBALL,THE QUILTY COACH ................ TIME TO SHOW US ON GAME DAY ,(( NO MORE TALK,NO MORE BLOA BIP,BLA BOP ))..... QUOTE FROM JAMES CAAN IN THE GOD FATHER.

I would have liked Miami's draft better with Ingram 1st round and a Center/Guard in round 2...but we will not know for a while anyway.

I agree with his view of Miami's draft. I gave them a C+, but I'm biased because I'm a Dolphins fan. Dolphins team is made up of mostly players who would be backups on other teams. Draft picks usually are backup quality until the coaches develop them and make them into starters. Its also up to the players, do they want to work hard to be a starter, or are they ok with being a backup.

This guy couldn't scout his way out of a paper bag. Mando, please come up with something better for tomorrow's edition. Miami's draft was pretty good. This team is going to surprise people this year. They can get a QB in free agency. I really don't see anyone out there that is cleary better than Henne. I think with a good OL and Running game he will be better. Another 3 wins and we are in the playoffs. Either you are a FAN or you're NOT.

ALoco, we've definitely heard enough from anyone outside of Miami (i.e. "the experts"). And while I don't expect Sparano/Daboll to put out their entire game plan today, I personally wouldn't mind hearing some more from Daboll on how he will change the offense, maybe what he intends to do to help Henne NOT repeat last season's disaster (end-of-season).

But, I get your point, it's time to actually play the game and shut everyone up and see what we got on the field. Unfortunately, there's a little thing like the lockout to overcome first. I hope the league gets beat back in the court room in June, is forced to open for business, and let the free agency period begin.

Until then though, yeah, I guess we've heard enough.

all OF THE SUDDEN,PEOPLE ARE MORE SUPPORTER OF HENNE AFTER SEEING THE QB FA OUT THERE ......NO ONE IS BETTER THAN HENNE ......

LUCNYC IS RIGHT ,WITH THE RUNING GAME AND BETTER OL ,WE WILL BE BETTER THIS YEAR WITH THE HELP OF OUR NEW QUILTY COACH .

Slow news day, huh. Who really knows how this is all going to work out? Time will tell. Draft grades a week after the draft are a creation of the media to drum up visits to blogs, web sites and formerly magazines...Useless, useless...and all too often wrong.

DC,

I RATHER HEAR FROM YOU , ODIN,ROB ,DB ,AT LEAST THESE ARE HONEST VIEWS BUT WITH THESE COACHES AND EXPERTS ,THEY ALL JUST TALK THEIR PAY CHECKS FIRST .........

PS...... DABALL IS A BIG HOPE FOR THE DOLPHINS,HE'S A QB COACH FIRST ,HE MUST DO REAL GOOD OR WILL BE GONE ..HE HAS ONLY ONE YEAR CONTRACT .

That's stupid! I thought our draft was great! but I'm not the expert either. The teams he gave a high grade to were in great positions last year which put them in great positions for the draft.

WE DID GREAT WITH WHAT WE HAD TO WORK WITH, PERIOD!

I know JIreland and Armando will agree.

I'm not an expert by any means! But take it from a football player... Talk to Tom Brady about pre-judging players before they emerge into stars...

if you add his blog and dollar you can barley buy a cup of coffee. I actually think the pats had a terrible draft but we'll see.

Who the F is Razzano anyway? Screw him and his lame opinion. He is just providing an educated guess like everyone else.

Tarence,

Your spelling may be the worst! As Doug Hefernan would say... Shutty

As we have all read we surrounded Henne with the aspects missing from our offense. Speed up the middle, speed deep, and yes another o-lineman, and another one or two are still needed. We got done with our oc and various other offensive coachs. We had no running game or pass blocking. The new 3 second rule that created the robot... HOW can anyone say Henne was the problem with all this missing. So my point is this jamoke gives us a "D" BASED ON NO NEW QB.

I agree with Dave Razzano., but at least the clowns running the show will finally be fired AND we'll have a shot at Luck next year... Well unless the clowns are still here in which case they would pass on Luck and take an OL, or a punter or whatever. Sad... So sad (shaking head). Well Go Heat! Least THEY know how to bring in talent!

Every highlight I seen of Daniel Thomas showed him running into the endzone from 5 yards out... While I agree getting 7 instead of 3 was important... REALLY... this is the guy??? Move up for this? I really hope I'm wrong guys.. I wish I shared your enthusiasm, but I feel we're in for a long friggen season

WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH

BOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

That is all I hear. From what I assume are grown-ass men. Shut up and let the season play out before you start complaining about the draft picks and the offense and the fact the sky is not always cloud free.

Jesus people, you make me want to stop being a fan just so I am not associated with whiny women. And comparing the Heat signing Lebron and bringing in talent to the Dolphins and the NFL in general is about a stupid as it gets Miamiphinphan. NBA and NFL talent collecting could not be more different man!
I love my Heat, Canes, Phins and Marlins as much as anyone, and it makes me sick all the know-it-all negativity some of you spew. Do you not realize this team was 7-9 last year, beat the Packers in Green Bay, SHOULD have beat Pittsburgh in Week 7, and lost some games late in the season that easily could have went there way? Had the Dolphins sat on their hands and done nothing I would understand your frustration, but so far I've witnessed as much change as the lockout allows, both in staffing and the draft. Give it a chance to play out on the field before we call it a failure. JEEZ!!!

What? The Patriots draft was horrible... The Lions were excellent... Fairley, LeShoure and Titus Young... Dan Thomas is a backup, so the two backs New England took before him are studs? This guy is a joke.

Ok... We'll see... You'll be no where to be found when the season is going down...I'm not gonna argue with you or trade names... We'll just see

When you draft safe, average players...that's the type of team you'll have. That's the team we have had!

While other teams go up & get the guys they want, this regime is content to sit where they are or try to trade back & get the left overs. Why can't this regime fall in love with a stud player & make moves to get him?

There is a reason we are fighting the Bills for 3rd place.

Don't say that Joe... They don't want to hear the truth

Oh, I'll be here buddy, I love bashing Armando and HIS negative crap he spews more often than not. You don't have to worry about that. I don't bash draft picks or players before they step on the field. Even Ginn, I supported him and hoped he would develop into what Miami needed. How many of you whiners cried and complained when Miami picked him over Quinn? Swore it was a mistake and Miami would regret it? Swore they were done with the team? LOL! How did that play out? Get a grip, be a mature fan, or move on with a new hobby. And I am not singling you out Miamiphinfan, trust me, there are TOO MANY of them to name.

Exactly Marcus, well put. Armando needs a new job assignment, let's try to get the Herald to put him on the FAU beat!

Have a feeling this guy was influenced by performance of this regimes past draft pics. That and still no quality QB on the horizon.

Unforgivable not to at least fill out your roster with a late round QB. NFL teams need 3. But overall D was way overboard.

Like I said... Well see (and I hated Quinn). Also always said Henne would be average at best. Took a lot of heat for that. Now everyone in the free world sees it. Don't think a center that can't hike a ball (that still cracks me up) is gonna solve our problems. While I don't agree with you I respect your opinion. Like I said... We'll see

My wife licked Armando's nut sack a couple of years ago and I truly hate the guy every since.

what a heel.

i think we shall call joe schmoe "Moriarity"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuStsFW4EmQ

Nice, mature way to respond, whoever used my name on the 9:48 post. Whoever you are, it's people like you that makes society hopeless. Grow up and argue your point child!!!

dm1, perhaps you should stick to telling me what you disagreed with in my post instead of posting links to youtube nonsense. Just a thought.

I think I will not respond any further comments until the imposter apologizes to me.

I was the one that licked mando's nut sack, not my wife!

Mike

How did it taste Mike? Inquiring minds want to know.

a little nutty

well, this guy give the fins draft a "D" and charlie casserly, who was a gm, liked what jeff ireland did with the draft saying he got the best rated interior o-lineman in the draft, went after one of the top running backs in the draft when the run started, picked up a speed receiver to help brandon marshall (casserly said he is raw at running routes but just having him in the game to keep the db's honest will help) and he also likes the charles clay pick. so, you'll find guys who like the fins draft and guys who don't all over the web. baldinger liked their draft as well.

For the record... It was obvious it wasn't you....sad we have children on here

joe schmoe,
everything.

The imposter must have had his hoo-hoo touched by his pop-pop when he was younger. It's okay little child, you'll overdose or off yourself soon enough! All the pain will end then.

I wish I could lick my own nut sack. Now that is something to write about.

joe schmoe (moriarity),
everything you post on this blog about our fins is negative. i haven't read one positive post from you since i've been on here.

sparano will be fired before the end of the season.
other teams go and get the guy they want. this regime is content to sit there.

always with the negative waves, moriarity.

I wish I had a nut sack. that is why I envy mando so much. Must be nice.

Anyone believe the phins will win more than 6 games this year?

I did not renew my tickets!

Kinda want to have a shot at Luck if we are going to suck anyway.

joe schmoe,
everything.

That's amusing because I didn't say anything that WASN'T true. Nor have you called me out on anything I said other than a blanket "everything" LMAO Way to win your point!

EPIC FAIL!

See, it's easy to bash & mock the other side simply because they disagree. Have a point or move along.

When you make statements like you just did, without any clarification, shows just how far into la la land & up this regimes as* you really are. You can be objective & still be a fan. You do know this right? You have proven, you are not.

I didn't say one thing that WASN'T true. Yet, you disagree? If you disagree with REALITY, you have ZERO credibility.

Just as you point to Casserly as saying it was a good draft, what makes him anymore right or wrong than this other guy? It doesn't, but because Casserly agrees with you, you point to him as credible & the other guy isn't. Hilarious!

That's not objective, it's biased.

Armando your love affair w old man Palmer is PUKE INDUCING

Vince Young is MUCH BETTER CHOICE

U seem to omit how strong of an arm Young has

How much stronger Young is physically

Young is YOUNGER

Young is tough on his feet

and, Oh yeah, Young TORCHED THE DOLPHINS WITH HIS ARM ONLY 2 SEASONS AGO

Home has spoken

MANDO TO THE FAU BEAT, START THE BANDWAGON NOW!

Childish imposters, remember, only YOU can end the torment that goes on inside your head each day. Take control and stop the voices, show them who is in control. End it! LOL!

GO FINS! Thomas for offensive ROY!

joe schmoe (moriarity),

You don't know the difference between reality & negativity. That's your problem. What exactly, in what you just cited, ISN'T true?

If Sparano doesn't do well this year, he will in all likleyhood be fired before or after the season is out. Almost everyone here would agree with that because that's the reality.

Other teams do trade up while Miami is content to sit back or trade back. What about that ISN'T true?

Please obtain a copy of a dictionary to look up Reality & Negativity. Maybe then you'll understand.

Not to bud in, but how can anyone really objectively grade a draft before the players have even played one snap?

we have on this team two guys in chris clemons and rashad jones that are going to excel at their positions. some people expect davis and smith to be the elite cornerback tandem in the league this year. we have one of the best d-lines in the business and we have an olb in koa misi that is expected to have a breakout season at his position. we have one of the best pass rushing olb's in the league and we have one of the best ilb's in the league in karlos dansby.
we just drafted the #1 rated interior o-lineman in the draft. we got speed at the wr position and one of the top rated backs, as well. we have the premier left tackle in the game.
there is a lot to be positive about this year. so, don't be a "Moriarity."

dm1,

you make good points, but misi only had 4.5 sacks and could regress, clemons and jones have not proven themselves yet. Each one had one INT last year? Smith was benched, Davis is still not a cover corner...and we still have henne.

we drafted a RB with 11 fumbles last year in college who will turn 25 years old in a few months.

Oh, yes, and sparano is still our coach

Now I remember why I don't visit the Herald that often, it because Armando is a tool. This loser was part of the worst division in football. Cardinals? Seahawks? 49ers? really? Miami has been lacking a good center for as long as I can remember and it was long over due. I can't wait for Henne to light it up this year and see how many people backtrack and say they were on the Henne train all along.

Moriarity,
being objective is one thing but, if people within the organization had the same negativity about this team that you do we wouldn't this team wouldn't win many games during the season. you fail miserably in your analysis of this team and why it has such a bad year in 2010 and you're being far from objective in your opinions. you must be a jets fan posting comments on a fins board. that's it, you're a jets fan. good luck with that.

Go back and look at the highlights of Daniel Thomas. He PUNISHES the defenders when he hits them. (Ala Walter Payton) He may not be pretty and flashy. but he is going to get a lot of 10 to 20 yard runs. He will keep the chains moving, make it easier for Henne to succeed, and have an overall positive impact on the offense. Pouncey was a solid pick in an area of need and Gates was a steal in the fourth round. The first legitmate deep threat since Clayton and Duper. they will all either start or contribute this year. Free agency will also yield hopefully another starter or two. We used to own that division. Our time will come again. I call them like I see them.

Joe Schmoe....was Miami content when they traded two second round picks last year for the alpha reciever the Miami fans wanted AND demanded? Was that content? They did not have a second round pick this year because they WERE NOT CONTENT, Ireland wants to win people!

They did not trade up for an offensive player, maybe because they did not have the chips to do so? Lockout means no trading players. Or perhaps there was not an offensive player worth trading up for that was a surefire way to kick start the offense???

Perspective people, please gain some.

dm1dolphan, the only thing you posted at 10:10 that is true is what you said about Long, Wake & Dansby.

Everything else is a what if or an expectation. Jones is expected to. Clemmons is expected to. Smith & Davis are expected to... BLAH BLAH BLAH.

What happens if they don't? Assuming will only make you look like an As* in the end.

Misi only had 4.5 sacks and could regress, clemons and jones have not proven themselves yet. Each one had one INT last year? Smith was benched, Davis is still not a cover corner...and we still have henne.
