Dolphins are not interested in Plaxico Burress

Yes, I'm still on vacation. But I'm not sipping drinks garnished with little umbrellas on some island and I'm certainly not hiking any mountain. I'm home. And I'm aware.

And I'm keenly aware many of you are wondering if the Dolphins are going to show interest in wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who was released Tuesday from prison after serving 21 months for a gun crime related to his blowing a couple of holes in his leg at a nightclub in 2008.

Burress, 34 when the NFL season eventually begins, may be an interesting topic. But I am told by a reliable source the Dolphins are "absolutely not" interested in Burress.

So much for that rumor.

I happen to agree the Dolphins should have zero business interest in Burress, despite the fact he is a South Florida resident. Why?

Did I mention he'll be 34 in August?

Did I mention he just spent 21 months in jail?

Did you know he has not played NFL football since 2008?

Did you know it is now 2011?

Maybe none of that bothers you. Maybe you think Burress can be the next coming of Michael Vick. And perhaps he can weave a tale of redemption and resurrect his fading career. I hope he does.

But Michael Vick was 28 years old when he returned to the NFL, not 34. And it still took him a year to get up to speed again.

Sorry, but the odds are against Burress. And it simply doesn't make sense for Miami to take that gamble.

Burress, in his prime, was an imposing 6-foot-5 target who combined that great size with very good speed and an increasing experience of defenses that made him very dangerous. But even in 2008, following his grand 2007 performance that helped the Giants win the Super Bowl, Burress was a troubled dude.

He was missing practices and was late to team meetings and was something of an enigma in the Giants locker room. He was also apparently in decline. After catching 70 passes for 1,025 yards in 2007, Burress had only 35 catches in 10 games in 2008. His average per catch was the lowest since his rookie year and the lowest in what was a steady four-year decline from 19.9 in 2004 to 16.0 in 2005 to 15.7 in 2006 to 14.6 in 2007 to 13.0 in 2008.

And you expect it will go up after not playing since the winter of 2008 and spending 21 months in jail?

Here's another thought for you to consider:

If the Dolphins decide they want a receiver to help Brandon Marshall and Davone Bess and the rest of the receiver corps in 2011, they aren't going to chase a 34-year-old guy. They're going to chase someone in his prime.

Did you know Santonio Holmes is a free agent? He's 27 years old. And fast. And hasn't been in jail the past two years. He played football last year ... and the year before. And putting him out there with Brandon Marshall would turn just about any QB into a playmaker. And it would be a blow to the Jets to lose him.

Did you know Braylon Edwards is a free agent? He's 28 years old. And his yards per reception number last year was 17.1. He also was a Michigan teammate of Chad Henne's and the two had good chemistry together. And yes, he drops passes, but he caught 53 last year for 904 yards and seven touchdowns.

And seven TDs is only one fewer than Brandon Marshall and Davone Bess had combined in 2010.

I am not saying the Dolphins will be interested in either Edwards or Holmes. But I am using them to illustrate the point that if Miami were to dip into the free agent WR market, there would be several players that make much more sense than Plaxico Burress.

Think on that.

So back to vacation I go. Please follow me on twitter as I am on there regularly and you can interact with me while I'm on this great vacation I'm on -- thinking about football.

Miss the picks like offerdahl McNeal and Stephenson

Go fins

I've been doing a really wierd thing lately.

I pull up Dolphins In Depth and I just sit here and stare at the blank comments box.

I got NOTHING!

(I'm not even EXACTLY sure why, but I hate Roger Goodell, Jerry Jones, DuhMaurice Smith and Tom Brady)

LOL @ ODIN, YOU SAYING YUR DOING SOMETHING WIERD IS WIRED.LOL

Odin,

I don't know why you hate the players either. They got locked out.

Odinseye, aka Cyclops:

Go slap yourself, then read page 2, June 8th, 12:12pm...

It will give you something to ponder.

I should say the players got locked out by ubber rich men who want more money.

Whats not to like?

Why in the world would you side with billionaires over players?

I still think that the Heat, having 3 dominant players each of which can take over a game and win it, will lose to the Mavericks who only have one such star. I will go with my older son's prediction: the Heat in six.

Gulf,

I had already read your dumb "Cyclops" response.

Six weeks later? The NFL is on strike and I am bored, but I'm not that bored.

Call me back when you have a thought that's not a month and a half old.

BTW, anybody that uses the word "ubber" has no business even trying to discuss economics, let alone the NFLPA CBA demands.

Correction to my 12:51: I REFUSE to think...., I must be drinking some bad Rum or something.

I have one for you.

The Dolphins really ought to spend a 3rd round pick in next years draft on T Pryor.

Sure the guy is immature and really stupid.
However, he is an elite talent at the QB position.

A news flash talent wins games.

This whole idea that the team does not want bad character guys is pathetic. Football is full of bad character guys.

Superbowl championship teams throughout the history of the league are full of bad character guys.

What the organization is saying in it's avoidance of a V Young or failing to consider drafting T Pryor is that the Head coach, the GM the organizations culture is too weak to manage the locker room.

The result is the Dolphins perpetually end up with less of the most important commodity....talent.

This is a parody league. Teams that take chances rise to the top. Teams that dont, dont.

Pryor is a primer talent and a steal in the 3rd round. Go after V Young, spend a 3rd on Pryor and the QB position has been upgraded dramatically. This GM and this teams HC would never do it.

They love players like Hartline and clamoring for Cowboy rejects.

Anyone who uses terminology like DuhMaurice Smith has zero business discussion player league relations.

Odin, you have been pounding out your drivel on this subject for too long.

Your mentality is that of a house slave to billionaires.

ORAGAN DOLPHIN FAN,WHAT ARE YUO HAVING GFOR LUNCH TODAY?

ORAGAN THE REASON I ASKS IS ODIN IS A ELITE POSTER AND SHODE NOT BE RIDICULED,YOU SIR ARE RISKING JOINING THE GANG OF DEFEAT.

Oregon,

Come on now, take a step back and get a grip.

You called me a cyclops(which I thought was funny), you used the word "ubber" and then you make a comment on MY mentality.

Yeah, I'll take it to heart. I'll put "ubber" stock in YOUR opinion-LOL!

T Pryor?

ROTFLMAO-Get out of here with that!

Character issues aside, Pryor wasn't even as good as Pat White. We all saw how that worked out at the NFL level.

T Pryor/3rd round pick, LOL-that's a good one-Duh..............................

WTH, was that a Freudian slip on my part? Yeah, I know. Sometimes you become so very passionate about some things that you neglect another. Well...

Gulf is a dum fuh cyclops.

Pryor will be locked up by the next draft like his fellow team mate from 8 years ago,as a matter of fact the HC should be brought up on charges of crimes against humanity.......

LOL at the Menace!

OSU can also surrender their Nat'l Championship over the Hurricanes!!!!!

Two cents, Miami won that National championship in MHO.........

Menace - thanks!

It was that phantom interference call.
That official MUST have been from Columbus,OH.

Menace -

I expect Jim Tressel to plead not guilty to crimes against Humanity when he makes his appearance at the Hague in the Netherlands.

Your mentality is that of a house slave to billionaires.

Aloco,

This lockout is getting to me.

The NFL strikes, Armando goes on vacation, the next thing you know I don't know what to do with myself.

I did some landscapping to my front yard and side lots.

I installed at least ten air conditioners the past two weeks for all the elderly shut ins I volunteer with.

Got all my work caught up at the shop and even organized the garage.

Tuned up my truck, Car, motorcycle, lawn mower and even fixed the kids bikes.

I got enough wood stock piled at the fire pit to outlast the New World order.

My Bull Matstiff/Pit Bull Debo is holding up pretty good though. He's got a head like an alligator and tips the scales at a 100 pounds now. He's a good dog(thank God). I even clipped his nails and gave him a bath the other day.

OH YEAH, not only that, Debo quit drinking too. He used to like Rum and Bourban just like me. Then a friend left some Black Velvet(yuk)here the other night. I didn't want it to go to waste so I shared it with Debo like I always do. Bad idea. We were BOTH hungover the next morning and he hasn't had a drink since. It's probably a good thing though. A 100 pound dog with an alligator head ain't always the most cuddliest of creatures after he's had a few to many Jacks on the Rocks!

Anyways, like I was saying, this lockout is really starting to get to me.

Norse, I hear it's Illegal to own a Pit Bull in south Fla..., Anyone in So.Fla, can you Confirm this????(Another way "Big Brother" is taking over IMHO)

Cyclops,
Oregandolphinfan obviously doesn't know how to spell "upper", instead typing, "ubber". If the person would have typed , "udder", I'd have thought the person witty, but no.

Gulf is one dumb fuh dude.

THE GULP DFOLPHIN IS WELL KNOW AS THE STUOID DOLP.HIN OF THE DOLPHIN WORLD

I WILL ALSO HAVE MY CHINA STYLE CHICKEN TONIGHT WHILE THE GANG OF DEFEAT AND DB THERE JOBLESS LEADER HAVE THERE BRUNED TOAST AND WARM BEER IN A CAN IN THERE OLD TRALERS WITH CAT POO ON THE FLOOR. THE CHINA STYLE IS THAT YOU PUT ((SOY SAUCE)) ON THERE AND ALSO SCALLONS LIKE IN CHINA.

YOU CAN PUT THE GINGER IN TO.

Is there anyone more Lovable then our Lil glue-sniffing friend Aloco???,

I'am sorry, Is there anyone more Lovable then our"HARD WORKING" Lil glue-sniffing friend Aloco........

Lil Aloco, Did you get that recipe from the future HC of the phins Bill Cohwer??????

Just checked back in here. Funny, I could have predicted the response if it can even be called a response.

Careful reading is obviously a thing of the past on this blog. I never mentioned cyclops. I guess that is to call someone a dick? I'm not about calling someone names like that. House slave? Sure, if the shoe fits.

Oh whats the other thing? Yeah, Ubber. Should have been uber. I added a b, wow. I misspelled a word. That never happens on here or on blogs in general, right. And so what anyways?
The word means top and is derived from the German and Latin languages. Look it up.

But sure one misspelled word is plenty of reason for some of you to discount ideas you do not agree with. That is a real demonstration of higher level thinking, not!
So far the case I made for Pryor has not been addressed.
By one posters account he is not as good as Pat White. Sure. Yet your entitled to your opinion.

I say he was the #1 most recruited high school player in the nation for a reason.

And let's see he was 12-1 last year at Ohio St.
27 td's 11 int's, 4, 100 yard rushing games and an 157 QB rating.

Yeah he sucks. Better to stick with Thigpin.

Oh and what was the other?

Cuban, your a die hard football fan which is a predominantly an African American sport but you care about my race? Try checking your racism at the door dude.

If you all want to get bent even more take a look at my page 3 post about the Heat!

I am a die hard Dolphin fan but that is as far as it goes for S Florida teams. Could not care less who wins this series.

I am looking for a good series and it appears we have one.

The national media and most of this blogs thinks the Heat were supposed to sweep and that's just silly.

Cuban, your a die hard football fan which is a predominantly an African American sport but you care about my race? Try checking your racism at the door dude.

Not Really throwing the race card at you, And BTW My Mother is black and my pops is cuban....What are your thoughts on tonights game Oregon??

About Terelle Pryor -

NFL Network analyst Charles Davis said he doesn't believe Pryor would be drafted before the fifth round.

"Based on what I've seen, he's not an NFL quarterback," Davis said, citing concerns about Pryor's accuracy and arm strength.

Jason La Canfora says -

a 21-year-old, slightly-tarnished developmental quarterback in need of prolonged teaching and instruction.

I could go on and on.......................

A BLACK MOTHER AND A CUBEN FATHER= A LOSER OFF SRPRING.

Oregon,

My bad, it was Gulf that said Cyclops.

As far as Pryor, I'll stick with my initial assessment. At the collegiate level he was arguably, maybe, a tad better, if that, than Pat White.

Not worth a 5th round flyer, let alone a 3rd and simply doesn't appear to be NFL mterial.

Cuban,

If not throwing the race card at me then I happily retract pushing it your direction.

Regarding tonight's game, it's a total guess.

But the trend I am seeing could result in a Mavs blowout tonight. See my page 3 post for why.

Still anyone's series. In the history of the 2-3-2 final series, which I hate by the way,
the team that wins game 3 wins the series every time.

Within a normal 2-2 1-1-1 series the winner of game 5 typically wins the series.

If the Heat win tonight I suspect it is a 95% chance you win the series.

it will be interesting. This basketball at it's highest level right now. Adjustments are everything.

The Mavs were breaking down the Heat D tail end of last game. We will see how the Heat adjust and if the Mavs come with yet another adjustment this game to counter. It is very cerebral at this point.

Odin, I just thew out a 3rd rounder in my initial thoughts about it. I could be totally wrong. Not claiming to be some kind of expert.

He could be such a dumb ass that he never makes it in the NFL and then again college is not for everyone and he could flourish after a few years on the bench and after maturing a bit.

If your locker room is strong a young kid can come around and 'get it'. That would be my hopeful scenario.

I just see an opportunity to add cheep talent.
The kid is a physical freak. I'd throw a 5th at him in a heart beat just on the potential upside.

But I would have initiated a trade with Tenn for V Young too just to assure he gets into the Dolphin fold.

Having a physically gifted QB is a big deal in today's NFL IMO.

Should be a great game tonight, Though I think Lebron went about leaving Cleveland the wrong way I've Always Loved D-Wades game, And being from Miami I always root for my Homeys.....LOLEnjoy the game tonight bro...

Oregon,

To be honest, I'd be tempted to "throw a 5th" at Pryor as well.

Just exagerating a bit to make a point.

I'm a Michigan fan so I have to hate all things Buckeye-lol!

...Besides the obvious. Lebron being more involved offensivley. And Dirk going off. The key to this game I think is J.J. Barrea. The Heat cannot put the Muppet(Bibby) on him and hope he can stay in front of him. Barrea is the only player on the floor(for both teams) with the ability to break down the defense, and distribute the ball. If he can do this, and the Mavs find their shooting touch. I sat curtains for the Heat in game 5.

Now if the Heat can stop Barrea, keep creating easu transition baskets off turnovers, and get more from Lebron(all seem realistic) Then the Heat could win this game by double digits. The one thing the Heat have going for them is that they do not need James to have a huge scoring night to win. Just a little off the ball movement. James is so static without the ball. This in fairness is part of the learning curve on this team as he and Wade are both trying to figure out who should have the ball. James isn't used to playing without the ball. I'm sure he hasn't been asked to do this much in his whole basketballl carreer. I say Heat win going away tonight 94-86

when there's no news ,there's the cuban menace WITH HIS FAKE ALoco AND HIS DUMB JOKES ........

DD,

PLEASE TELL ME THE THOUGHT PROCESS FOR YOUR MIND TO COME UP WITH ,94-86 .. A HEAT WIN .

ODIN.........

I HAVE A LITTLE TINY DOG AND NEEDS A FAMLE ...CAN I BARROW YOUR FEMALE DOG FOR AN HOUR ?

Odin,

having grown up west coast I am not afflicted with the whole big blue vs the buckeyes thing.

Though I do know it is a big deal.

About Pryor, I am most disillusioned about the mentality of the Dolphins organization. I do not see Ireland or Sparano ever being willing to go after a guy like Pryor or for that matter V Young.

Some team is going to take a flyer on Pryor and if he clicks like Vick he is going to make that team a lot better.

Playing it safe all the time in a parody league is just a recipe for mediocrity, IMO.

OMG, Lil Aloco is "Peeking" on his inhalents...LOL

Whats up ALoco??

I see the game playing out in scenario 2 that I put forward. I think the game is close at half time and then the Heat open it up in the 3rd quarter..The Mavs haven't scored over 90 points yet, I can't see them doing it tonight. Thats why I think the Heat cruise by 8..At least.

If the game plays out in the first scenario(which I think is less likely then my second one) Then as I see it Miami is doomed. Even so the game will be close. The Maves have to work to hard to get baskets to blow out the Heat (IMO)

Lebron may just go nuts tonight. Not by scoring 30 points but by being active...Triple double perhaps?

OREGAN,

YOUR POSTS ARE VERY GOOD AS DD'S POSTS .
