Dolphins are not interested in Plaxico Burress

Yes, I'm still on vacation. But I'm not sipping drinks garnished with little umbrellas on some island and I'm certainly not hiking any mountain. I'm home. And I'm aware.

And I'm keenly aware many of you are wondering if the Dolphins are going to show interest in wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who was released Tuesday from prison after serving 21 months for a gun crime related to his blowing a couple of holes in his leg at a nightclub in 2008.

Burress, 34 when the NFL season eventually begins, may be an interesting topic. But I am told by a reliable source the Dolphins are "absolutely not" interested in Burress.

So much for that rumor.

I happen to agree the Dolphins should have zero business interest in Burress, despite the fact he is a South Florida resident. Why?

Did I mention he'll be 34 in August?

Did I mention he just spent 21 months in jail?

Did you know he has not played NFL football since 2008?

Did you know it is now 2011?

Maybe none of that bothers you. Maybe you think Burress can be the next coming of Michael Vick. And perhaps he can weave a tale of redemption and resurrect his fading career. I hope he does.

But Michael Vick was 28 years old when he returned to the NFL, not 34. And it still took him a year to get up to speed again.

Sorry, but the odds are against Burress. And it simply doesn't make sense for Miami to take that gamble.

Burress, in his prime, was an imposing 6-foot-5 target who combined that great size with very good speed and an increasing experience of defenses that made him very dangerous. But even in 2008, following his grand 2007 performance that helped the Giants win the Super Bowl, Burress was a troubled dude.

He was missing practices and was late to team meetings and was something of an enigma in the Giants locker room. He was also apparently in decline. After catching 70 passes for 1,025 yards in 2007, Burress had only 35 catches in 10 games in 2008. His average per catch was the lowest since his rookie year and the lowest in what was a steady four-year decline from 19.9 in 2004 to 16.0 in 2005 to 15.7 in 2006 to 14.6 in 2007 to 13.0 in 2008.

And you expect it will go up after not playing since the winter of 2008 and spending 21 months in jail?

Here's another thought for you to consider:

If the Dolphins decide they want a receiver to help Brandon Marshall and Davone Bess and the rest of the receiver corps in 2011, they aren't going to chase a 34-year-old guy. They're going to chase someone in his prime.

Did you know Santonio Holmes is a free agent? He's 27 years old. And fast. And hasn't been in jail the past two years. He played football last year ... and the year before. And putting him out there with Brandon Marshall would turn just about any QB into a playmaker. And it would be a blow to the Jets to lose him.

Did you know Braylon Edwards is a free agent? He's 28 years old. And his yards per reception number last year was 17.1. He also was a Michigan teammate of Chad Henne's and the two had good chemistry together. And yes, he drops passes, but he caught 53 last year for 904 yards and seven touchdowns.

And seven TDs is only one fewer than Brandon Marshall and Davone Bess had combined in 2010.

I am not saying the Dolphins will be interested in either Edwards or Holmes. But I am using them to illustrate the point that if Miami were to dip into the free agent WR market, there would be several players that make much more sense than Plaxico Burress.

Think on that.

So back to vacation I go. Please follow me on twitter as I am on there regularly and you can interact with me while I'm on this great vacation I'm on -- thinking about football.

Brawn brawn is actually playing great. The 'heat' he has received is more than a bit unfair.

Wade missed the biggest FT of his life last night and turned the ball over in the final min as I recall and everyone is screaming about how James.

You look at his stat line, 9 boards, 7 assists.
Everyone is hyper focused on his 8 pts. At any level 9 boards 7 assists is huge! and real difficult to achieve.

This your SF with 7 assists. Plus he dealt dimes on several player who just could not grab the ball or missed the open shot.

He is not a pure jump shooter and he has a good defender on him in Marion. The strength in his upper body is the thing that makes him pretty much unguardable off the dribble.

If he takes it to the rim off the dribble and crashes the offensive boards off the weak side he is going to have a large impact on the game tonight.

J Kidd is a triple double threat tonight too.

OREGAN......... ANY CRAPY PLAYER CAN HAVE 9 BOARDA , 7 ASSISTS AND 8 LOUSY POINTS..................

LEBRON IS A GOOD PLAYER,NO MORE .

BRUNIS WILL DESTROY THE CANADIANS TOMORROW .

BRUINS

No matter how much you pay them, they don't play any better.

IN ANY LINE OF WORK ,IF YOU PAY PEOPLE MORE THEY WORK HARDER EXCEPT BASKETBALL AND FOOTBALL .

BILL....GOOD POST

AND BASEBALL , THE WORST SPORT EVER .

Oregon..Whats happening?? Long time.

Marion is a freak...Watch how he shoots free-throws..It cracks me up. Totaly unorthidox. The thing about James is he has to be involved. He looked totaly out of it in the 4th quarter game 4. I think he will have a ton of energy tonight. He may only score 12-16 points. Who cares, he doesn't have to score for the Heat to win. His defense has been incredible up to game 4..that is where I think wee will see the biggest turnaround from game 4. Just an off night for him..I give the guy a pass.

DD ,

I AM SHOCKED THE FINS DIDN'T SWEEP THE MAVR'S YET .

Spoelstra needs a consistent game plan, better rotation. He has been the weak link holding the team back.

Aloco,

I have to totally disagree about rebounding and assists.

Rebounding is mans work. Very few come easy and creating an assist takes real skill.

These teams are playing at a very high level. None of it comes easy.

In my 20's and 20's i played a ton of city ball. I was a busing inside player at the 4 position. I'd have guys crashing into me on pretty much every possession and block out for rebounding always involve contact.

I'd typically get 8-12 foul shots a game which is a lot for a running clock situation.

The next morning after games like this I'd have a hard time making my body climb out of bed I hurt so bad. I imagine I was feeling about a quarter the pain a RB feels post game.

A physical player like James, he's young but it is still taking a tool, same for Wade.

These guys are going to be limping around after their careers are over.

Still takes a toll not a 'tool'.

I meant to write 20's and 30's.

Typos.

OREGAN,

RONDO OF THE CELTICS AVERAGED ABOUT 11 REBOUNDS AND 14 ASSISTS A GAME AND YOU R MAKING A BIG DEAL ABOUT A 100 MILLION DOLLARS FOR 4 YEARS PLAYER AS LEBRON AS A BIG DEAL ?

Pay Brandon and Lebron more and they will play worse. Cut their salaries in half and you will get a rise out of them.

I MISS THE DAYS OF JORDAN WHEN HE SHOWED THE WORLD HOW BASKETBALL IS PLAYED .

PS...... WADE IS BETTER THAN LEBRON AND IS SURE BETTER THAN THE OVER RATED HOSH .

Lebron is the Donovan McNabb of basketball. Fades when you need him most.

Bosh looks like the creepy guy in the raincoat that flashes women in alleys. He is just an ordinary player.

DD,

Yeah you have to give James a pass. The guy is a beast and is effecting the game in many ways the average fan does not see.

His D has been phenomenal and that is the side of the game many star players just do not give full effort at.

The man made D Rose disappear!

Little kids need to cover their eyes watching Marion shoot free throws. But the guy is good and has a solid all around game.

Your point about Barrea (sp) is a good one and Kidd is a problem for the Heat too.

Also the Heat do not have an answer for Chandler. I know it sounds crazy but Chandler is starting to really have an impact on this series.

Someone on the Heat roster has to keep him off the offensive boards. But who?

It's getting closer

Aloco,

Rhondo is a rare talent. His stats are mind blowing.

Chances are you are going to get a couple of championships down there with James before it is all said and done.

He will be worth every penny then.

I MISS THE DAYS OF JORDAN ,45 POINTS A GAME THROUGH PLAYOFF GAMES NOT LIKE LEBRON WHO PLAYS LIKE SECOND RATE PLAYER VS A BAD TEAM AS DALLAS .

OREGAN,

DO YOU KNOW WHAT LEBRON WORTH ? HE PLAYS BASKETBALL FOR PASS TIME BESIDE NIKE'S MONEY AND HIS BUISINESS .

OREGAN,

RONDO LAST CONTRACT IS 50 MILLION FOR 5 YEARS ...VERY CHEAP .

Oregon,

I'm sorry, maybe I can make it up to you.

You know I love everyone here.

I do all of my posting in the buff-lol!

Terrelle Pryor, future Dolphin.

Hi ALoco

Haven't seen you in a day or so.
I so miss you smelling my butt.

Terrelle Pryor can't throw the ball. No accuracy. No velocity. Never makes it in the NFL. Ireland is just not that stupid to invest in him.

ALoco?
Are you there?

Are you seeing another tube?
I thought we had something going.

Some bloggers do ZERO research or can't even comprehend well written research when it its in their face. Isn't it amazing how many bloggers still want Plax even after reading Armandos blog which illustrated a whole slew of negatives? All they can see is Plax making a TD catch in the SB FOUR years ago and they are blind from there. Those people should not be allowed to vote.

Hey tube,

You can lube me and tube me if ya like !

Craig, you crack me up. Detailing others' shortcomings while generally insisting that Armando is the be-all source of Phins insight. I'm fine with people reading and claiming what they want. Are you ok with me being ok with that?

Craig,

I sometimes think Armando just types nonsense to fill in the void, but I always remind myself that he is privledged with info straight from the horses mouth - of which you or I will never, ever gleen, until Armando relays it, first.

That is why I always appreciate the posts he shares in advance! In retrospect, Armando is nearly always right in his accessment of the fins, like it or not.

So I agree with you when you say many here are not suitable to vote in substance, regarding the selection of players addressing this franchice.

Trust me, if Armando says that the Dolphins are not interested in plaxico, they are NOT interested in Plax.

Thank you Armando, and sorry I have not frequented your blog in the past 6 weeks, but starting two days ago, I will be back my friend, as always.

dishpan

Armando is by no means the be all source of phins insight. But...in this case, facts are facts. Fact, Plax will soon be 34. Vick was 28 and still took him a year to get his legs back. Its plain ludicrous to think Plax will just waltz back in in superior form than he was during his last season when his stats were already down. 21 months of crap prison diet and limited training won't cut it. Why would we bump any young receiver with promise to make room for a 34 yo guy who hasn't played in 3 seasons, who at best needs a full year of training to get maybe the one average season left in him. Senseless.

Just not sure about Lebron. Expected more from him. Dallas showing more heart this game.

Now Ricky says he wants to come back to the Dolphins to finish his career according to NFL.com. Do we bring him back

bobbyd12,

Heck yes, resign that Williams. Dude wants to play, and is more sound and solid than Brown.

Check put the numerous hightlight reels of he vs. Ronnie from last year (then check the stat boards, of course).

It is a mature prediction that Ricky will administer to Daniel Thomas great things for basically a bargain $.

Plus, Ricky is still a monster.

IMO

LMFAO. LeChoke artist strikes again!!!!

Isn't it ironic that the league's biggest front runner goes to the country's largest population of front running fans.

The mockery will exceed anything the fishies have brought on you all the last decade. This is pure humiliation. Watching this trio choke year after year is going to be great.

Dirk > D Wade. Poor little D Wade has a sore hip and now he is useless!!! Panic Panic Panic. The big 3 sh*t the bed again!

BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH D Wade misses another free throw. He is choking just like his lover LeQuitter.

Tortured,

Seriously. You must be one extremely bored individual in life if you need to get your jollies trying to taunt others on a blog. Nobody really cares. You sure know how to make yourself look pathetic.

Tortured, Game ain't over. Miami in front now. Maybe you can go try masturbating for the 19th time today while thinking of the milkman.

LEBRON MY......... AS SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

IF JORDAN COMES BACK NOW ,HE WOULD SCORE 4 POINTS IN THE MINUTE LEFT IN THE FOURTH Q ..THAT'S MORE THAN THE OVER RATED MR LEBRON MY AS,,,,,,SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

YOU SAID MIA IN 5
THEN YOU SAID WELL IF NOT IN 5 THEN IN 6. HUH?
WHAT DO YOU SAY NOW?

ALoco - your back.
Where have you been honey?

Lebron is not earning his salary.

DB........ THE BASKETBALL EXPERT PREDICTED MIAMI WINS IT ALL IN 5 MY AS..SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

ALoco - do not ignore me!

Lebron = Least Valuable Player

HOW CAN ANY ONE COMPARE LEBRON TO JORDAN OR KOBE.IT'S INSULT TO OUR BRAINS ......................

MIAMI FANS ARE NOT THAT SMART AFTER ALL LIKE DB THE BASKETBALL EXPERT .

ALoco - please come to bed and sniff my butt.

Miami is not a dynasty team. Wade is the only superstar. Lebron does not look confident or hungry.

TIme for Lebron to join Dancing with Stars.

Carlisle > Spoelstra

Thats the difference.

ALoco?
Come out come out wherever you are.

WHERE ARE THE THE BLOGGERS THAT SAID MIAMI IN 5? OR 6? HIDING?
