Dolphins are not interested in Plaxico Burress

Yes, I'm still on vacation. But I'm not sipping drinks garnished with little umbrellas on some island and I'm certainly not hiking any mountain. I'm home. And I'm aware.

And I'm keenly aware many of you are wondering if the Dolphins are going to show interest in wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who was released Tuesday from prison after serving 21 months for a gun crime related to his blowing a couple of holes in his leg at a nightclub in 2008.

Burress, 34 when the NFL season eventually begins, may be an interesting topic. But I am told by a reliable source the Dolphins are "absolutely not" interested in Burress.

So much for that rumor.

I happen to agree the Dolphins should have zero business interest in Burress, despite the fact he is a South Florida resident. Why?

Did I mention he'll be 34 in August?

Did I mention he just spent 21 months in jail?

Did you know he has not played NFL football since 2008?

Did you know it is now 2011?

Maybe none of that bothers you. Maybe you think Burress can be the next coming of Michael Vick. And perhaps he can weave a tale of redemption and resurrect his fading career. I hope he does.

But Michael Vick was 28 years old when he returned to the NFL, not 34. And it still took him a year to get up to speed again.

Sorry, but the odds are against Burress. And it simply doesn't make sense for Miami to take that gamble.

Burress, in his prime, was an imposing 6-foot-5 target who combined that great size with very good speed and an increasing experience of defenses that made him very dangerous. But even in 2008, following his grand 2007 performance that helped the Giants win the Super Bowl, Burress was a troubled dude.

He was missing practices and was late to team meetings and was something of an enigma in the Giants locker room. He was also apparently in decline. After catching 70 passes for 1,025 yards in 2007, Burress had only 35 catches in 10 games in 2008. His average per catch was the lowest since his rookie year and the lowest in what was a steady four-year decline from 19.9 in 2004 to 16.0 in 2005 to 15.7 in 2006 to 14.6 in 2007 to 13.0 in 2008.

And you expect it will go up after not playing since the winter of 2008 and spending 21 months in jail?

Here's another thought for you to consider:

If the Dolphins decide they want a receiver to help Brandon Marshall and Davone Bess and the rest of the receiver corps in 2011, they aren't going to chase a 34-year-old guy. They're going to chase someone in his prime.

Did you know Santonio Holmes is a free agent? He's 27 years old. And fast. And hasn't been in jail the past two years. He played football last year ... and the year before. And putting him out there with Brandon Marshall would turn just about any QB into a playmaker. And it would be a blow to the Jets to lose him.

Did you know Braylon Edwards is a free agent? He's 28 years old. And his yards per reception number last year was 17.1. He also was a Michigan teammate of Chad Henne's and the two had good chemistry together. And yes, he drops passes, but he caught 53 last year for 904 yards and seven touchdowns.

And seven TDs is only one fewer than Brandon Marshall and Davone Bess had combined in 2010.

I am not saying the Dolphins will be interested in either Edwards or Holmes. But I am using them to illustrate the point that if Miami were to dip into the free agent WR market, there would be several players that make much more sense than Plaxico Burress.

Think on that.

So back to vacation I go. Please follow me on twitter as I am on there regularly and you can interact with me while I'm on this great vacation I'm on -- thinking about football.

Quite the jacka s s aren't I.

ALoco,

You have been sniffing my butt for years now.
When are you going to propose to me?

DB IS THE POSTER BOY FOR THE DUMB HEAT FANS .

As a Heat fan I hate to say it, but it looks though the Heat will lose and Pat Riley will be coaching them next season.

I have no clue why James Jones hasnt played in any of these games. This is also a great series to get Ilguaskas some minutes. Tyson Chandler really doesnt have to work on the defensive end because we have no offensive center threat. This leaves Chandler free to double team without consequence.

I feel Spoelstra's doing a horrible job on his personel decisions in this championship series.

ALoco,

Calm down.
Take a big whiff of my butt and you will feel better.

Ilguaskas needs to play this series for two great reasons:

1. He can force Chandler from underneath the basket. This gives us better chance to offensive rebound.

2. If Chandler tries to show on double-teams it can mean wide open layups underneath the basket for Ilguaskas.

Im shocked Spoelstra still has yet to figure this out.

GOOD NIGHT TO ALL .... TIME FOR COACH DB TO POST A 100 TIMES PLUS TALKING TO HIMSELF .

Dying Breed... I think that even if the Heat do not accomplish their goal of a championship this year(they still have home games not over yet) The best is yet to come for this team. It is still obvious that Wade and James struggle sometimes in the 4th quarter as to who should have the ball. The addition of a distributing point guard will do wonders for this team, and make them very difficult to defend. LeBron is so used to having the ball all of the time, he hasn't mastered movement off the ball. He would be able to move around more freely if there was a guard handling the ball, making the decisions.IMO

Ilguaskas is a broken player. His feet are broken and he cannot keep up with Chandler.

His lack of mobility makes him a liability against both Chandler and Dirk.

That is why he is not playing.

But I'm sure you know more about basketball than Spoelstra.

Morning all,

I had a long night after staying up to watch the Heat lose, but I'm up early to smoke a fatty. Reminds me of playing bass in my former bands days. Makes me want to play (with myself) again.

Valhalla !

For all the high-fiving and festiveness of the Heat haters, be aware of this much:

Yes, they are poorly coached. Yes, James has largely vanished at crunch time the past two games.

But Miami will also win these last two at home and when all is said and done will be the last team standing.

Mark my words.

What about Terrelle Pryor in the suplimental draft?

Wade and Lebron can't coexist on the same team. Either one plays great or the other, but not both together. Spoelstra seems to have run out of ideas. Dallas is the better team.

Lebron is in a daze on the offensive court. I think they just have to make Wade the go to guy, let him run the game.

DB amd others om the verge of jumping ship....

Its OK....Miami has controlled and dominated this serious almost for 44 mins. of most 48 min games....

Its OK....

Its not they way I envisioned the HEAT winning the series (in 7).....especially since this could just as easily have been a sweep. ....

So DB and others....sit back, have comfidemce....and enjoy the bonus basketball....

Dallas has the Heat figured out. First time Heat dropped two in a rwo in the finals. Wade can't beat the Mavs by himself. Lebron's defense is just not enough without him scoring points too. Bosh? Scares nobody. Looks timid and average. Spoelstra looks lost, out of answers.

rgb,

BOTH TEAMS DON'T DESERVE TO PLAY IN THE FINALS ..THEIR GAMES LOOK AVERAGE AT BEST AND NO REAL THRILL WATCHING THE GAME .....

LE BRON
BOSH.............. THEY BOTH LOOK WAY OVER RATED EVEN IF THEY WIN NEXT 2 GAMES ...............

WOW

LOOK AT THE HEAT FANS BACK PEDDLING FASTER THAN DION SANDERS.

IF THE HEAT DON'T WIN THIS YEAR THEY WON'T WIN ONE.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

AND DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE NEW COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT.

THE OWNERS WANT A CAP LIKE THE NFL.

I'M SURE THE HEAT WILL BE OVER THE CAP.

KRIS @ 8:15

YOUR SO RIGHT DALLAS SHOULD HAVE WON IN 4

OK OK

LET ME TALK HEAT FOR A SEC.

THEY CAN STILL WIN IT. ALL THEY NEED TO DO IS DO WHAT THEY DID AGINST THE BULLS.

HERE A FLOP THERE A FLOP EVERYWHERE A FLOP FLOP.

AGINST DALLAS THEY ONLY DID ONE FLOP AND THAT WAS WADE.

AND THEY WON THAT GAME.

JUSTIN,

DO YOU LIKE WATCHING THESE GAMES BETWEEN DALLAS AND MIAMI ?

I FIND THEM THIRD RATE BASKETBALL GAMES WITH OVER RATED PLAYERS EXCEPT WADE,DIRK AND JASON KIDD .

ALOCO:

THAT'S FUNNY.

BUT I'LL TAKE BRON BRON OVER KIDD

Its not Lebrons fault that Chalmers keeps over throwing fast breaks and our Bench misses all their shots. No James Jones is killing us.

Wade and Dirk are the only two players on the court worth watching.

Rgb, u are correct. Just like the Dolphins passing on Plaxico, like we have all these bad ass WR's worth watching.

Dan Marino = Never won it all.

Le Quitter = Will never win it all.

Two peas in a pod. Two front runners for the front running fans to be proud of.

The Difference between the Dolphins and the Heat. An essay on loving and loathing.

Maybe it was the bold and unique colour scheme of the Dolphins uniform.

Maybe it was the incredible rise to football dominence with Miami winning 2 SuperBowls and obtaining the NFL's only perfect season within a decade of entering the league.

Maybe it was some of the colourful characters of those early Dolphin years (Mercury Morris, etc).

Maybe it was the well cultivated (and well earned legend of Don Shula).

Maybe it was the sustained culture of excellence at the Dolphins -- even though they did not win a SupberBowl since 1973 -- they were a consistently good team with only two losing seasons through the 70's, 80s and 90s.

Maybe it was Dan Marino -- who record shattering performance -- captivated the nation.

Maybe it was the generally warm feelings that people had about a football team playing in a tropiocal paradise.

Maybe it was the cheerleaders -- always the hottest in the league.

BUT THE CONCLUSION IS CLEAR: The Miami Dolphins have always had a National -- and indeed international -- following of football fans and a market presence that extends far beyond South Florida.

In the ENTIRE LEAGUE -- the only teams that can boast a wider national following than the Dolphins are the Cowboys, Raiders, Steelers and Packers...and (maybe) the Redskins, Jets and Giants.

NOW THE HEAT -- are differnet. They are defined by their whining. by their excuses. By Lebron and Bosh quitting their previous teams because the work was too hard. They are a team that has felt entitled to greatness from their ridiculous South Beach Party onward. And they are lazy. And they choke. They tried to buy a championship with me-first primadonnas. They are failing. And eveyrone outside of Miami (including legions of Dolphins fans) loves it.

Le Quitter signed for 5 years. He'll get at least one.

Yes there is an national following of the Dolphins.

If by national you mean having the stadium 1/2 full of fans on vacation from whoever the opposition is.

PUH LEASE. Give me a break.

Stop living in the 70s 80s an 90s. This team is as irrelevant as any in the NFL. No one attends your home games. The stadium is full of empty orange seats which is so obvious on tv. You have made the playoffs like once in the last 10 years.

You are a nice vacation and road trip. Nothing more.

All Le Quitter has done is vanish when it matters. Boston G5 last year. Now we have the debacle of 4th quarters in the Finals. No reason to think he will ever get it done. He is a broken little boy. Confidence blowing in the wind. He wanted to be loved. Now he is hated. He will not be able to cope. This is the best you will ever see him. He is going into a shell and will never come out ... and I love it.

The Vanisher got us this far. If not for his 4th qtr play against Boston & Chicago, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Is it his fault we missed 20 free throws and 18 3's in game 4? Everytime he gets the ball he is triple teamed. But Silly people blame him for everything. Shameful..

Ahh 'Sparano's Son's Fist' -- your grasp of rudimentary logic is every bit the equal of your dad's grasp of rudimentary offensive football.

You are pointing out a flaw in South Florida sports culture -- notorious for having fair weather fans. I don't blame them. There are many many fun distractions living in a tropical paradise and one of the entertainment / party capitals of the world. In -- say Cleveland -- fans are little more rock-ribbed because -- in Cleveland -- there is not much else for fans to do.

I am talking about something completely different -- national fan followings. The Dolphins -- thoroughly mediocre last year with exactly ZERO brand name stars have somehow ended up playing 3 Nationally televised games. They do so because they are still a ratings draw. Not a 'Dallas Cowboys' style ratings draw -- but still miles ahead of the Jacksonvilles, Detroits or Seattles of the world.

You may thank me for correcting your errors at your convenience. Cheers.

SPARANO'S SON FIST:

I THINK WHAT THEY DID WAS WRONG BUT I FOR ONE DON'T HATE HIM.

I THINK HE WENT OYT LIKE A SUCKA BUT HE HAD EVERY RIGHT TO MAKE HIS ON CHOICE.

WE FORGET THIS IS AMERICA AND WE DO HAVE SOME FREEDOMS.

PLUS LETS NOT FORGET THE CAVS KNEW HE WASN'T GOING BACK. YEAH THERE WAS HOPE BUT THEY PUT ALL THIER EGGS IN THE BASKET AND HAD TO LIVE WITH IT.

WE MUST ALL AGREE IN THE LAST YEAR HE MADE BASKETBALL WORTH WATCHING.

FROM HIS LAST GAME WITH THE CAVS THE CHOICE HE MADE TO TAKE HIS TALENTS TO MIAMI TO DIVIDING THE WHOLE COUNTRY WANTING HIM TO WIN OR LOSE.

DON'T HATE THIS MAN FOR DOING WHAT HE WANTED TO DO AND HAD EVERY RIGHT TO DO.

HE DID NOTHING WRONG TO ME OR ANY OF YOU AND HE REALLY SHOULDN'T BE TREATED IN THIS MANNOR.

WITH THAT SAID F U C K HIM

JUSTIN,

LEBRON IS NOT MARTIN LUTHER KING ,HE'S A SECOND RATE PLAYER ...YOU TALK ABOUT HIM AS IF HE'S IN THE SAME LEAGUE OF JORDAN AND KOBE .

Herald reporting that the Heat are changing thier name to Cold Soup.

Interesting that Ricky is voicing desire to return to the Dolphins.

This would be a great move for the team, the two young RB's and Ricky. But the team and more so the young RB;s would benefit the most.

Let's not forget that Ricky is one on the hardest working players this organization has ever seen.

Remember Saban being blown away about how Ricky goes 100% every play of every practice?

Remember how Ricky, who is probably still a better RB than Ronnie took him under his wing and tutored him.

I suspect the Organization will turn it's back on Ricky in a short sighted and vindictive move because Ricky told the truth about Sparano's over coaching.

Only Lebron could leave a nation rooting for Mark Cuban.

Telly Savalas is nude on my patio.

ALOCO:

NO NOT AT ALL.

BUT HE IS DR. KING'S VISION.

I'M NOT SAYING HE'S RITE BUT HE'S NOT WRONG.

IT WAS A CHOICE HE MADE FOR HIMSELF AND THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG.

W CAN PICK A CHOOSE WHAT WE WOULD HAVE DONE BUT WE'RE NOT IN HIS SHOES.

ME MYSELF I WANT TO BE THE BEST MAYBE HE HAS THAT MENTALITY TO JOIN THEM AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

ALOCO:

I HOPE THIS IS NOT THE FAKE ONE I DON'T LIKE BOOTLEGS.

Aside from that annoying and ill-conceived "The Decision" debacle (that even LeBron has apologized for) what the hell has this guy done that's so freaking horrible?

Changed teams? Well, big whoop-de-do. Since when is that noteworthy in professional sports? LeBron James played in Cleveland for SEVEN years. He "owed" them NOTHING. Sure, I feel bad for the fans there that felt jilted but, hey, welcome to the real world. A player has the right to pursue other options and James didn't do anything that countless others have done before him.

Yeah, he's been less than spectacular the past couple of games but I would also caution that the Finals are NOT over and, frankly, if you don't think the Heat can win two straight at home then you are clinical.

Knocking James overall ability? Puh-leeze. The guy will be in the Hall of Fame someday, and deservedly so.

It's your right to hate the guy (or the Heat as a whole) but I also retain the right for calling out a lot of that vitriol as insipid and juvenile.

Consider the source, Dan. Most of the hatred is coming from the resident board idiot.

We are paying Lebron to play like a superstar, he is playing like a bench warmer. These guys get too much money and lose their fire. Far too many replays show Lebron just standing around. Its sickening.

The pressure has Lebron psyched out. I think its that simple. He is not right in the head. Doesn't appear he is going to get it together.

ALoco - where are you?

Perhaps the greatest joke of all is that so many people actually thought Lequitness and his decision was worth caring about. Turns out he is a fraud of epic proportions. Numbers don't lie and he is nowhere to be found all series in the fourth. What a joke!

LeQuitness is like the fishes hurry up o in the fourth quarter.

D Wade doesn't get a pass either. His premature celebration turned this series around. Thanks D Bag! I wonder if coach Spo will console all his blubbering babies when the Mavs are celebrating on your home court.

Hope you all enjoyed this little run bc this is as good as it gets. When they all start to realize this little experiment isn't going to work it is going to get ugly.

TorturedDolphan, you may be right.

Then again, are you man enough to eat crow and come here with a 'mea culpa' if the Heat wind up being the ones celebrating a title?

It is pure fantasy at this point to think the Heat are going to win?

You think their bench is suddenly going to have an answer to the Mavs after 100 games? You think Dirk is suddenly going to fade after 100 gmes when ilness and injury hasn't stopped him? Is Lebron suddenly going to find his touch in the 4th quarter when it is clear that what was once thought to be an anomaly is in fact a chronic mental block?

You guys had your chance and instead put together some of the greatest 4th quarter chokes in finals history. I guess the arrogance of the decision and subsequent party is still a big part of the team. The players are worried about the attention Dirk is getting instead of just playing.

This series should be over. Miami should have won. Instead the big three have engineered one of sports greatest choke jobs. Love it!!!

You are all Witnesses to the D Bag and LeQuitter CHOKE job!

Bloggers don't waste your time responding to Tortured. He is so bored in life and so desparate for some attention that he has nothing better to do but come on a blog and try to fan some flames. He is nothing but a bored child needing attention.

The Heat may win, the Heat may lose. So be it. Nobody is going to be traumatized. In the end it is merely entertainment.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP)
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall's wife has been arrested again after previously being charged with stabbing him in the abdomen.

The Broward Sheriff's Office reports that deputies responded to a 911 hang-up at the couple's home Friday morning. Despite a protection order requiring her to stay at least 500 feet from the home, 27-year-old Michi Nogami-Marshall told deputies she had been living there while Marshall was out of town. When Marshall returned, an argument occurred, followed by the 911 call.

Deputies charged Nogami-Marshall with violating her pre-trial release. She remained in jail Friday evening. Online court records didn't list her attorney.

Nogami-Marshall was charged in April with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after Marshall was stabbed with a kitchen knife. He has since recovered
