Brandon Marshall reports to Dolphins -- early

Brandon Marshall's, um, drama-filled offseason has led to much speculation about his status with the Miami Dolphins.

Let's clear some of that up. Again.

In April, following Marshall's alleged stabbing which police said was at the hands of his wife, I reported the wide receiver's status with the team was not in danger. The Dolphins did not intend to get rid of Marshall. Made sense since, despite his history for domestic violence, this incident cast Marshall as the victim.

I've not heard anything that would change Marshall's status with Miami since then so I'm assuming he'll be with the Dolphins.

Apparently Marshall was assuming the same because he showed up at Dolphins training camp today ready to work out. In fact, he showed up around 8:30 in the morning and wasn't allowed to immediately enter the facility.

The NFL mandated club training facilities were not to open from their lockout state until 10 a.m. And so Marshall apparently waited in his car for 90 minutes until he was finally allowed in the facility at the allowable time.

Interesting right?

Speaks to the kid's diligence.

Simon,

Rumour has it that Tennessee has a deal out there for Hasselbeck to be their starter. He's apparently weighing it...

HaHa!, Mr OC.

CraigM,

I would swap Crowder for Barnett at the exact same rate of pay. Crowder's biggest problem is he runs his mouth like he's a legend. Yet plays like he's a lesion.

At least if you get the same similar play from Barnett as did Crowder. We wont have to listen to Barnett sound off like he's an all-pro.

Thanks Craig M. By the way, read back to an earlier post of yours. Apparently (coming from his agent a week ago, I know thats suspect) Soliai is in excellent shape, a few pounds under normal. I'm guessing a few pounds under is better than a few pounds over.

I like Crowders rant. It's entertaining. All in fun. Who wants serious players that only give you the company line. Thats boring.

Thanks for the update. I hope his agent's comments are accurate. If it's true I'd get working on something for Soliai to free up some money for other FA's.

Interesting first day. Looks like Seattle has their QB situation figured out and Minnesota will add McNabb if he agrees to renegotiate his contract. Takes two teams out of the QB derby. It also looks like Hasselbeck will end up in Tenneesse. If that's the case it looks like Arizona and ourselves to figure out what we're doing. Apparently Kolb and Orton are in play and soon to be Young. Wouldn't be surprised if the 'Skins get in on the QB shuffle too.

Also disappointing to hear that D Williams might be heading to Carolina or Denver. Are we still players on Bradshaw? Hope so!

Please guys im in Law School need to focus... I cant be reading these blogs because I should be reading my notes.... FOOTBALL!!! drives me crazy thinking about Marshall being the guy we traded for!

Marshall is a brilliantly talented WR who has aspirations to greatness, works to his aspirations and is not particularly tolerant towards players and coaches satisfied with mediocrity.

I can live with that.

Give him the rock.

I heard on ESPN we traded for Orton. What's up?

WHAT'S GOOD EVERYBODY?

LONG TIME.

WHAT'S OUR CAP SPACE LOOKING LIKE?

GIVE ME TWO JETS HOLMES AND HARRIS.

GET RID OF CROWDER.

OH AND HEAP.

JUST GIVE CHAD HIS SECOND YEAR CHANCE!!!

HOLMES HEAP BESS AND MARSHALL

NO EXCUSE.

IF IT DON'T WORK WE GET A QB NEXT YEAR.

why waste a year....have we been a perennial playoff contender who can afford to ..."take a year off".....

I don't think so.....

Its the GMs job to stack this team with the best available talent that the TEAM can afford year in and year out....

This "wait till next year" mentality is a loser's mentality.....PERIOD....

Win this year....Win next year...and necessary.....until You win the FINAL GAME OF THE PLAYOFFs......

KRIS:

ARE YOU SAYING I HAVE A LOSERS MENTALITY?

I KNOW WE CAN WIN WITH CHAD.

I ALSO KNOW IT WASN'T CHAD THAT WAS THE PROBLEM LAST YEAR.

Get Orton at all cost! If nothing else get Mcgahee if nothing better. Fix the problems or get out of the business of football. I have been a FAN since "69" and am tired of watching the garbage I saw last season. I played the game for 9 years, 3 as a semi-pro. There are some semi-pro teams that could have kicked the s%#t out of the dolphins last season.Get rid of the egos and grow some cajones' and play some Damn BALL!!!!

kris,

Totally agree with your 10:29 post. I'm not a fan of taking a backseat to anyone. Fresh start, let's get after the Pats and Jets.

the people who write posts every day anD EVERY YEAR ON THIS BLOG SHOULD BE CREATIVE AND NOT REPEAT THE SAME OLD,SAME OLD ........

KRIS
EVERY YEAR YOU SAY THE SAME CRAP .

GRAIG M.............. YOU R MUCH BETTER THAN MOST .

DB......... YOU ALWAYS TRICKY TO FOLLOW SINCE YOU R ALWAYS ON THE WAGON FOR SOME HOT PLAYER AT MOMENT .

Don't count Devlin out,Romo was also undrafted!
Miami still needs a #2 WR and a #1 back.

Dolphins have a ton of cuts coming to fit some FA on the roster.

FASANO WILL BE RELEASED...........

HARTLINE IS HOT ON THE RUMOR MILL .......THE WORD HE WILL BE GONE .

Tyler Thibpen is now a Buffalo Bill.

IS THAT NEWS DB OR YOU JUD=ST SAYING THAT ?

TYLER THIGPEN AGREES TO 3 YEAR DEAL WITH BILLA,,,,,YOU R RIGHT DB

10 MILLON FOR 3 YEAR ......... BACALA TIME

TO BE OR NOT TO BE ..IF THIGPEN SIGNS 10 MILLION FOR 3 YEARS , HENNE SHOULD GET 7-9 MILLION A YEAR AND HAVE A BABY WITH HIS WIFE .........

IF THE DOLPHINS WON'T MAKE AN OFER SOON TO HENNE ,HE WILL SIGN ELSE WHERE WITH 9 MILLION A YEAR ...........

WHERE'S ARMANDO ? HE SEEMS TO WRITE A CRAPY POSTS ABOUT MARSHALL GOING EARL TO TRAIN AND NEVER BREAK ANY NEWS LIKE DB .

like i have been telling everyone for months. henne will never start another game here, thankfully. bulger and brad smith would be 2 great signings

yes we all knew gailey loved thigpen last year. but the idiots in the front office refused to deal him in the div. unreal how dumb these guys are

DUSTY BOTTOM.... ARE YOU SAYING , B/C BILLS SIGNED HIM AND OVER PAID HIM ,THEN THART MEAND WE ARE DUMB ?

I DISAGREE

THEN THAT

no aloco im saying the bills are idoits and have wanted thigpen for couple years. fins could of dealt him last year to them

Dolphins in very tedious situation regarding signing a qb. If they sign Orton it most likely costs at least 5yrs @ $6 million a season. $6 million a season is too much to pay a backup.

Reasoning is: Should Henne still win the starter position and shows significant progress. Then we're on the hook to resign Henne for no fewer than 6yrs @ around $8.5 million a season. Meaning Orton gets paid about $6.5 million a yr to hold a clipboard for the next 5 seasons.

DB.......

IS HENNE A BLACK SHEEP...... EVERY TEAM THROWING MILLIONS AT EVERY PLAER BUT......... HENNE .........WHAT THE HELL ,.......... PLEASE DSIGN HENNE FOR 200 MILLION AND LET HIM HAVE A BABY ......

If I were gm I would sign Henne to a 2-3yr extension right now. Reason being if the lights do come on for him this season. Then we can still have him locked down for basically peanuts the next 3 seasons.

If Henne has a very good season this year we'll be locked into franchising and over paying him in 2012. If he sucks in 2011 we can dump him at season's end.

Soliai made great improvement in 2010, but it wasnt $12 million dollars good. The fo should give Henne a 2-3yr extension just to avoid another potential Soliai situation. We can always cut him at season's end if he truly sucks in 2011.

Henne isnt a fa Aloco. 2012 is his year unless we sign him to an extension. An extension would be wise move to advert a potential franchising and overpaying him situation in 2012.

DB......... REMEMBER WHEN ROSS WENT TO PLAY GOLF WITH HENNE FEW MONTH AGO, THE ROUMOR IS THEY WENT OUT TO TLAK CONTRACT .

Don't get it. Thigpen is better than Devlin and has far more experience to start in an emergency.

Thigpen had 3 teams after him. Nobody drafted Devlin.

Plus if Henne were given a 2-3yr extension it may give him more confidence in his ability going into this season.

However its doubtful Ireland has the guiles to think of the things Ive just posted.

DAREN .......... THIGPEN DEMANDED 3 MILLION A YEAR FROM THE FINS AND THE FINS REFUSED , SO HE WENT TO THE DUNB BILLS .

DB... SO SMART POST @ 12.36 PM

Follow the money.

Let's replace our mediocre players with cheaper less experienced players. Winning formula?

Darren,

The fins also were looking to upgrade the backup qb position. Guess theyre assumming if bringing in Orton+ Henne theyve accomplished this. Devlin could end up being a very cheap 3rd string backup.

Henne/Thigpen combo wasnt very good last season. So even if Henne ends up 2nd string(or Orton) the backup situation is still upgraded over 2010. Both Henne or Orton would make a better backup than Thigpen. Thigpen was very uneven in his performances.

It could be they already have the Orton deal in hand, just working out the details.

Who's left? Orton, VY, Bulger, Hasslebeck

It would be even more stupid not to give Henne an extension if they bring in Orton and Henne beats him out as starter. They'll be locked in to "franchising" him in 2012.

If Henne beats out Orton, well it doesnt say much for Orton does it? Still if Orton beats out Henne I would still like to resign Henne for at least 3yrs at backup. Henne would be very good quality at #2 and would still have opportunity to overtake Orton for the starting job over those 3 seasons.

I'd give a little more credit to Ireland. No doubt he has thought of the extension.

Im going out on the limb to say they'll land Orton because I dont believe this regime has the balls to go after VY. They probably would go after VY if they had more faith in Henne as a starter. I expect them to play scared and go after Orton instead.

I hope so Darren.

I would hate to see us paying Henne like a top 5 qb next season when his 2011 play didnt completely warrant it. No more potential Soliai situations.

The press for what its worth has Miami tied to the Orton deal. According to Hyde at the SS, insiders told him as much.

Best time to negotiate an extension with Henne is right now when he doesnt have an overinflated value of himself.

Darren, its the norm for this fo to play it incredibly safe. That's all Orton is, "incredibly safe".

I like Orton to Marshall, don't think it will happen....but I'd take VY at the right price, he can run AND pass! With the right coach, VY is a winner.....but do we have the right coach?

Don't know. Marshall and Incognito weren't so safe.

Redsky, Im more concerned with us bringing in the "right players" first. Then if we cant win with the right players, its conclussive we dont have the "right coach".

Not to defend Sparano, but we've yet to have all of the right players in Miami either.

Ya know....there are snags in the Peyton Manning negotiations....just saying. I like Peytong to Marshall, Peyton to Bess, Peyton to anybody.

Darren, I'll always believe the Marshall signing had more to do with Ross than Ireland.

Incognito's only character flaw unsportmanlike penalties. He had zero off field issues. He wasnt a great gamble if you get him to get his on the field anger issues under control.

Darren pinch yourself. Manning will be a Colt until he retires. LOL...

In other related news Brandon Marshall has been signed as a paid endorser of Penis Safe. It is a kevlar shield worn around the groin area which protects the penis and testicles from being sliced off by an intruder or loving wife. Brandon fell on some glass, luckily he was wearing the Platinum Model locking Penis Safe Groin Protecter. With the PMLS his manhood will be safe from being ground up in the garbage disposal by his loving and supportive wife who saved him after his tragic accident of falling on a cocktail glass.

Wow! John Clayton says the Broncs maybe looking for a 2nd and a 3rd rd pick for Orton. If Ireland's willing to give up that nuch he should be fired on the spot!
