DeAngelo Williams returns to Carolina :(

The Carolina Panthers will announce in the next 24 hours that they have retained running back DeAngelo Williams.

Why am I reporting this?

You have to ask?

The Dolphins were interested in Williams and were one of three teams that made offers to perhaps the best running back available in free agency.

The offer was considered no more than a flirtation by Williams, however, once it became clear the steep price it would take to pry him loose from the Panthers or keep him from going to Denver. ESPN.com is reporting Williams has agreed to a 5-year, $43 million contract that includes a whopping $21 million in guaranteed money.

The Dolphins were shopping for a running back and continue that search. But they were looking around at Sears and Williams was hanging out at Sak's.

So what does this mean?

Miami still needs a running back to pair with rookie Daniel Thomas. Ahmad Bradshaw is still a possibility, although the Giants are considered the heavy favorites to retain him. He could be considered the next-best available runner. He also would not come cheaply as it would require outbidding New York.

The Dolphins have talked to agent Drew Rosenhaus about Bradshaw and Rosenhaus has given the team the appropriate parameters for making that work.

Then we head to the clearance aisle. Miami can still go back to Ronnie Brown, who is offering himself to the highest bidder. Miami can look at Cedric Benson, assuming he's not in jail today. Miami can go very cheap for Atlanta's Jason Snelling.

I suppose there's also Ricky Williams.

The pray-for-it-to-happen solution is that Reggie Bush gets cut by the Saints because he has a cap value north of $11 million. Then Miami swoops in and add him for the sake of giving him the football 15 times a game or so.

Don't bank on that working out perfectly.

Other running backs that are available include Willis McGahee, Joseph Addai, Marion Barber, Carnell Williams, Darren Sproles, or ...

Nevermind.

Oregon it will be interesting to see if you're right. I will keep a close eye on Young this season and remember what you said and we can revisit it after game 8.

they are scared owner is so full of shhhhhhh

LouD, try reading your own posts. I hesitate to respond because I am thinking you are 15. You didn't even answer the questions because you just want to believe you know what you are talking about. Here are is W/L stats

Statistically over the last 6 years, Titans and Broncos roughly equal.

Who ways all the experts agree Orton is better than VY? Nonsense. Orton only has one single team interested in him, the lowly, quartback starved Miami Dolphins.

Craig,
Wrong choice of words. Teams address weaknesses, as do Dolphins. Aggressive teams address weaknesses but also reinforce and improve the team strengths also. The Jets are a prime example. The dolphins deal only with the apparent weaknesses. Why not sign another fast established WR? Just because they got Marshall, god forbid you sign another. A good GM would. Why not go after a name RB? The D is very good, why not try to get an established and proven Safety to make it a great D? Nope they just plod along and make the safe and necessary moves. That's what I mean. Pounce was the safe pick in the draft. Take a flier on a guy that has a high risk high reward talent set? Nope play it safe and pick an average Olineman. Just saying.

LouD there is no question.

Orton is a far more talented QB than Young.

Young is a better ATHLETE.

But Orton can make far more thorws, delivers the ball far more cleanly, and is far more accurate passer.

Vince Young will win you more games. Make things more complicated for the DC.

I expect he will have more than one team calling tomorrow. Orton has only had Miami interested and nobody else.

Who's on the hook for VY's contingent of psychotherapists?
Does it come out of his own pocket?

Of all the QB deals done so far, each QB had more than one team interested. Kyle Orton had only 1. Thats how hot he is. He may even blow off Miami and stay with Denver.

I am P. King.
P stands for Peter.
I am the king of the Peter.

is ORTON our FUTURE qb, to me he is good, but not great......

can someone check his 3rd down % and RED ZONE numbers from what I hear it is HORRIBLE...

fins also drop out on BRADSHAW fins say he wants to much money..what a JOKE...

Got to admit Kyle is at least a nicer hunk to look at than VY.

You might be mistaken about only courting orton. Where did you get that from ?

LouD,

You want to make a talent comparison between VY and Orton. Orton is talented sure. He was in a big play system last year put up good numbers yet Denver is moving on.

I feel VY is a better fit with the Dolphins. He knows the run 1st style and as much as I do not like Sparano, he's here.

The Dolphins need star power, they need to be interesting again to put fans in those empty orange seats.

I just think Young has that star power over all other options. Plus he wins games and extends plays.

Defenses are so good now. The QB who extends plays becomes even more important. Besides the OL fell apart last year...so a mobile QB makes sense there too.

I am not saying Orton is a bad QB, I just think Young has more upside AND comes without giving up draft picks or costing as much cap space.

VY cries when fans boo him and when people yell at him. Oh yeah, I want that guy as my Quarterback! Also, Minny, Tenn, and Arizona all showed interest in Orton per Shefter and Jay Glazer. Tenn and Minny wanted a bridge with an older vet, Arizona has a hard on for Kolb. Just sayin'

I would rather look at the cheerleaders.

They wanted Orton so bad they all signed QB's like yesterday. Ha! They may have asked about him, and moved in a flash on someone else. NOBODY thinks Orton is worth the price they are asking. Ireland only one at the negotiating table. And his pet Spot.

Ireland will act like he pulled off some great achievement when in fact, he was the only person showing interest.

P.King,

Well said. Post 8:36.

Bear with me folks.
I am trying to be the biggest a s s hole I can be.

The Kolb deal is done. 2nd rounder and Rodgers Cromartie. Kolb gets $30 million guaranteed! That's crazy

P. King @8:36

You make a good point. I might have to rethink my opinion on Orton now.

Oregon 8:32,

Hit the nail on the head.

VY WILL GO TO CAROLINA TO UNITE WITH NEWTON AND HELP HIM HOW TO RUN AND WHEN HE SHOULDN'T RUN ,,,,,,,,,,

AS WHY IS TALKING TONG TO SIGN ORTON AFTER ALL THESE QB'S WHO SIGNED ALREADY....IS B/C HIS 11 MILLION DUE HIM THIS SEASON ...........

Good to see my Beloved Miami Dolphins VERY ACTIVE and AGGRESSIVE in Free Agency.....

Nah....i'm just kidding...you know those guys are goona get ut together....just targeting the right player and such.....yeah.....

Bradshaw not looking too likely at this point. Looks like another season of Ronnie Brown. Maybe Kory Sheets can give us a spark.

This is a wildshot call, but I won't be surprised if Buffalo makes a play for VY. Gailey took CJ Spiller, Thigpen, he likes athletes that can run.

Expect more late round cast offs from Cleveland. Cleveland is the new Dallas farm of late round acorns.

Kyle Orton is getting closer to becoming the starting quarterback of the Miami Dolphins.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that the Broncos are in serious trade discussions with the Dolphins about Orton. And multiple reports out of Miami indicate that the Dolphins seriously want Orton.

The deal isn’t done yet: It does not appear that the Dolphins and Broncos have agreed on what a fair price for Orton would be, and Orton, who is due more than $8 million this season, would likely need to agree to a new contract with the Dolphins. So there are some potential obstacles.

PFT HAS AN ITEM NEWS ON THE NEW DOLPHINS STARTER QB .......KYLE ORTON

Henne must feel right now just like Sparano did in January.

THE FUTURE OF THE WHOLE DOLPHIN BRASS WILL DEPEND ON ........KYLE ORTON

How do you spell: Instant Quarterback Controversy!

Except for the 2008 season when everything magically fell our then still ended in a humiliating one and done playoff playoff loss. We have faile to crack .500 win loss as a football team.

This fo's answer to that, bring in a qb(Orton) that has slightly better than a .500 career win-loss record. Guys I guess this means we're a lock to become a .500(8-8) win loss team this season. WHOOPIE!!!!!!

Does Kyle orton or Vince young kick field goals? No they don't and coach fist pump wants 3's so what difference does it make whose leading those drives to the other teams 30yard line

Simon Says,

Seems we're back to WoodStrock!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DB........... SHEER THE DOLPHINS...DON'T GET UPSET ,YOU R A FAN FIRST AS A DOLPHIN NOT VY........ NOW HOP ON THE NORTON WAGON .

how bad are the phins they cant even get a RB because its to much money ha we will suck this yr

Lets start the 2012 draft discussion early. Who should we take with the #15 pick?

I will issue the same caution I did 12 hours ago. It still is not a done deal. We know they are trying hard, but the price might not come down enough for Ireland.

If Kyle Orton had even the smallest of clues what he's walking right in the middle with Dolphin fans. He would steer as far clear of Miami as he possibly can.

He'll be greeted with both cheers and jeers on opening day. I guarantee it!

I'll bet if all of the Dolphin players were polled. VY would be our new qb in a landslide, not Orton.

WHEN I SEE YOU
I FEEL YOU
SINCE I LOVE YOU.......BACALA

SOLITARY MAN W/ MICCHAEL DOUGLAS AND SUSAN SARANDON.....IS A HELL OF A MOVIE ................

DB HAVING A BREAKDOWN ..................

can u imagine vy, bush and marshall on the field at the same time

KYLE ORTON RULES................................ BACALA

The Fins drafted wildcat talent and a wildcat OC to take the running game to the next level. Their o-line should be better and Sparano said he wants to run first.

VY could keep teams honest because he could run a w/c play at any time because of his run/pass skills.

VY now has better receivers. That's why I believe his game will improve dramatically.

Yes!

Denver does not even want the guy. He is about to count as 8 million against their maxed out cap this year.

Looks like Denver will have to just release Orton...unless Ireland jumps in to give away future draft picks and hand over a DE! Yay!

This move is totally stupid.

DB...we know how you feel about Orton......

But this blog seems to be fit 45% to 45% with 5% that are undecided....and another 5% who want to keep Henne as the un-challanged starter....

Simon Says @ 9:23....

Good Observation,,,,

and DB....as the ONE WHO SHALL REMAIN NAMELESS says at 9:36....

Were FIN FANS FIRST........

If this deal happens we should get behind Kyle Orton...

And whish nothing but the WORST (on-the field...barring injuries).....for VY.....

Much the way you have posted about Mallett....

The case for VY: There isnt one. He's a mediocre passer on his best day. Super Bowl teams have QB's that make plays from the pocket.

The Case for Orton: Far superior QB to VY. Doesnt need a team of shrinks. Familiar w/Marshall. Smart. Right now, better than Henne.

The Case For Henne: 2 years invested (3 total). He's a big, strong guy, with a big arm. Cant say he's not tough. He took a pretty good beating last year. Those attributes dont grow on trees.

No reason to pull the plug prematurely. Henne has less than around 25-28 starts under his belt. History shows us many Pro Bowl level QB's have it "click' for them around the 35 start mark. Look it up. The game slows down for them.

If Henne doesnt improve this year, or simply treads water, the is a fantastic group of QB's coming down the pipe in next years draft. And there will certainly be another Orton-like vet available as a stop gap.

Jay Glazer said Kyle Orton is a damn good QB. Compared him to Pennington. 42 TDs and 21 INTs last two years plus Brandon Marshall really likes it. He wont make many mistakes. When is the last time we had a QB with those numbers?? Good pick up for Fins, count me as a believer after hearing people who actually KNOW or PLAYED the actual game talk about him today.

*** typo: less than 30 starts, around 25-28.....

WELCOME MR BOBBYD12......... LONG TIME .................YOU R A TRUE FAN WHO EVEN HAS A SEASON TICKETS .

GarbagePlate, good analysis. Add in South Beach which wouldn't be the best place to put Vince Young in either.
