I'm at the facility and expect to live blog practice so head on over to the comments section starting around 11:05 to check out what's going on.
I can say this early on:
I cannot believe what I've already heard this morning. No, not about the Kyle Orton trade or Reggie Bush or Mike Pouncey's contract status.
It's the words of owner Stephen Ross. This is what he said, in part, during his meeting with the media moments ago:
""There's a fine line between winning and losing. There's three games we could have won for sure and then there's Pittsburgh, which we all think we won and then look at what our record is. The Jets squeezed by and got a few lucky wins as well. The thing is winning and knowing how to win at the end of the game. That's what's important. Our record doesn't show that's what we do. But you can't say these are teams that are much better than we are and we're really a lagger to them ... You can't draw a fine line and say this team is that much better because they're not. There's a lot of parity in the NFL and we have a lot of great young players. Look how far we've come in a short period of time."
Um, note to Mr. Ross:
The Patriots were 14-2 last year.
The Jets went to the AFC championship game for the second year in a row.
And the Dolphins didn't lag behind?
Crazy.
"

freedog,
It's not worth the effort. Let them freak out.

Get used to hearing this during the season...
"Matt Moore's pass is complete to Asomugha. Touchdown Jets!"
Thank you Jeff Ireland. Way to be patient.

Dear Jeff,
I owe you one man. Thanks a million for taking Moore over that impossible to defend Vince Young. Appreciate it. Good luck this season.

greg z,
you think the fans should run the team?? haha, just watching this board gives me a good idea how that'll turn out.

Matt Moore really?
Posted by: noland8929 | July 29, 2011 at 01:11 PM
People who imagine Luck is a lock are way off base.
The Dolphins will be middle of the pack again this year, draft in the mid teens and will not be able to move up to the 1st pick.

Listen guys, I have no problem with letting Henne have one more year. But come on, sign other guys at need positions. If Henne fails, then all they need next year is a QB. I can't believe that Sparano and Ireland are as dumb as they are. I mean if this were year one, then yes, by all means be patient. This is year four, and worse year four after two 7-9 seasons that were worse than the records indicate. The time for patience is with a first year regime. This tired show is on a continuous loop to nowhere.
Posted by: jrljr2 | July 29, 2011 at 01:12 PM
Free Dog,
I not attacking you per say, but, the flawed logic of a wait and see approach with this regime. We,fans have not seen any positive signs other than B. Marsh and Dansby in over two years to keep up with the Pats and Wets. Just disgusted with the inactivity, and don't dislike anyone, but, i'm really pissed off. And as a season ticket holder, I have a right to be after watching this franchise for over 25 years.
Posted by: Nick | July 29, 2011 at 01:12 PM
Impossible to defend V Young LMAo....really...then why is he a back up with a 1 yr deal? Jeez....every time I come back to this site I get pizzed at all the idiots and leave again...back to the SUN....

CaymanFinfan, calm down. First, you have no idea how old I am. Second, I am a diehard fan and I never said i was happy with the moves so far but i am willing to give it past the first F-ing day to see what other moves will take place. Everyone attacking me should take a breath and realize none of us know what the hell is going on behind the scenes. I have not said one bad thing or cussed at any of you in return so relax, I am not your enemy. And for someone who claims to be so much older and wiser, you sure don't act like it.
Posted by: Freedog | July 29, 2011 at 01:13 PM
After the Bush signing 50,000 fans were on hold for season tickets. After hearing about the Matt Moore signing they've all disconnected on the phonelines.
Posted by: DyingBreed | July 29, 2011 at 01:14 PM
Yes Kennedy we are freaking out, I am sure 3 years ago, 2 years ago and last year you were patient and are wathcing the team grow, i dont see it as that, they place minimal value on the QB position period. Signing this guy and Orton is stupid. UNLESS they trade Henne.
Posted by: qcs | July 29, 2011 at 01:14 PM
Looks like Jamie Dukes was right on NFL Network yesterday.. "Someone is going to get fired for not taking a chance on Vince Young"...
I thought this was the kicker from Ross: “I think we’ve said before we have a lot of confidence in Chad,” Ross said.
Really?!?!? What gives you that confidence? Chad doesn't even have confidence in himself, have you seen his face after an INT? Where was that confidence when you f'ing benched him twice last year? He was below average.
Posted by: Nick B | July 29, 2011 at 01:15 PM
Cayman Finfan, I am a true fin fan and I'm not concerned because they haven't even played a game yet. I have hope. The Orton thing isn't dead and even if it never comes to fruition, there are dozens of other scenarios that can play out in the Dolphins favor.
Posted by: Chopper Riding Fin Fan | July 29, 2011 at 01:16 PM
Henne to the bengals and a 3rd rounder for palmer.
Posted by: qcs | July 29, 2011 at 01:17 PM
This organization cries about fans not coming out to home games. Then turns around and signs garbage like Matt Moore.
Sorry but the city of Miami will not come out and support your sanitation workers union.
Posted by: DyingBreed | July 29, 2011 at 01:17 PM
What a great live blog this is. Thanks for all the great updates Armando. So many better writers that are clued in with the Dolphins I'm not sure why you all waste your time here.

Matt Moore is a smokescreen to force Denvers hand..........watch
Posted by: jamesthefinfan | July 29, 2011 at 01:18 PM
Mando, I know you don't agree but I am very happy to have Chad Henne as our starter. A lot of us have been saying it takes another year of starts and he deserves the chance under somebody besides Henning. This will prove us Henne supporters either right or wrong, we have enough cap space to add another quality Free agent around Henne. Henne now has the weapons and the coach to either prove he is the man or not.
Posted by: bobbyd12 | July 29, 2011 at 01:18 PM
Matt Moore = Moore of the same
Moore of the same = 7-9
Posted by: DyingBreed | July 29, 2011 at 01:19 PM
smokescreen... a wasted of 5 million dollars...
Posted by: qcs | July 29, 2011 at 01:19 PM
Nick .. Have u ever seen Mannings face after 6 int one game pretty much the same!
Posted by: socalfan | July 29, 2011 at 01:19 PM
Miami is a joke!!!!!.....Matt Moore is who you choose to sign!? Meanwhlie, they let Vince Young walk to Philly WHEN THEY COULD HAVE GOT HIM CHEAP!!!....This organization is weak & below average!!!....While the Patriots & Jets continue to take risks & reap the rewards!!!....Chad Henne & Matt Moore your QB'S....Say hello to 4-12!!!!
Posted by: DAN the MAN | July 29, 2011 at 01:19 PM
Wait a minute. I figured this out. Colts are having a difficult time getting Peyton his new contract under this new salary cap. They'll eventually have to cut him, and Ireland will be there waiting to scoop him up. Jeff Ireland - The GM who thinks unlike 31 others. What a visionary. See you in South Beach next week, Peyton.
Posted by: wlc | July 29, 2011 at 01:20 PM
From a Red SOx fan... Chad Henne= JD Drew
Posted by: qcs | July 29, 2011 at 01:20 PM
No it aint - Dolphins organization sucks.
Posted by: watagatapitusberry | July 29, 2011 at 01:20 PM
jamethefinfan,
Hate to burst your bubble but espn has reported Miami's "COMPLETELY" out of the Orton sweepstakes.
I know you were a VY-hater too. After signing Matt Moore VY looks awful enticing right now, doesnt he! LOL...
Posted by: DyingBreed | July 29, 2011 at 01:21 PM
This is not fantasy football. Why are you guys all upset about Kyle Orton?
Kyle Orton Blows!
Yes, Matt Moore is worse than Kyle Orton, but Kyle Orton still blows.
Remember the Chicago Bears once had him, and dumped him.
Posted by: dolfdan13 | July 29, 2011 at 01:22 PM
Mando???? Mando?????
Posted by: qcs | July 29, 2011 at 01:23 PM
Hey Simon....ya moron!! Not sure if you're still around....show me where I said NO ONE would touch Vince Young? Ya complete clown!! I guess nobody ever taught you how to read...
I've you had bothered following anything I'd said, I said Young would be my second choice to come to Miami. So how does that mean I don't want him or think anyone would touch him? If you go back and ACTUALLY read what I said, you would see that I said yesterday he will very likely end up as the backup in Philly. Seriously...go back and read it...better yet, have someone read it for you....you're obviously incapable of reading anything in front of you. I still think Orton is the guy in Miami and I still think there's a chance he might become available. What I said this morning, if you bother to go back and read is that the Dolphins should go out and sign Matt Moore and take any leverage away from Denver. Guess what happened....Matt Moore. But yeah, I'm clueless....you complete MORON!!
Posted by: Craig M | July 29, 2011 at 01:23 PM
All you Vince Young lovers out there need to wake up and realize he sucks...that is why Ireland passed on him and he is now a back up in Philly.
Please get over it and move on.
Posted by: NHFINSFAN | July 29, 2011 at 01:24 PM
DolfDan-
All the qb options blow, so they spend money on the wrong position,. If Henne is the starter, fine, sign Bulger and put the dough into another position.
Posted by: qcs | July 29, 2011 at 01:24 PM
We get more news from the oregonian than our own beat writer....WOW.........MOVING OVER TO THE SENTINEL
Posted by: jamesthefinfan | July 29, 2011 at 01:24 PM
Armando reported on his radio show this morning that the Orton deal was dead, ESPN 5 hours behind. And I can care less about VY, he will probably be the next Professional athlete on the show Addiction
Posted by: bobbyd12 | July 29, 2011 at 01:24 PM
Moore, Young, Orton, whatever. The real crime here is the failure to sign Pouncey. You draft a center at 15 and expect him to start. No OTA's and a compressed training camp. Arguably the most difficult position to learn after QB, and he's not in camp. This is a true indication of the incompetence of this organization.
Posted by: Boozgr8 | July 29, 2011 at 01:25 PM
dolfdan13,
Im not upset about not signing Orton. The greatest calamity is that we ran to Matt Moore just to "PROVE" we didnt want anything to do with VY. Ireland is a dick and we'll never win anything significant while he's in control of personel influx.
Posted by: DyingBreed | July 29, 2011 at 01:26 PM
@DyingBreed - No...Matt Moore has absolutely nothing with Vince Young being a terrible pocket passer, a terrible leader, a head case, immature, all that combined with incredibly thin skin who cannot handle the slightest bit of criticism. Matt Moore is a career back up and will be on this team. ESPN knows what they are told, nothing more and nothing less. They are used for posturing and to get fans into a frenzy...why is that so hard to comprehend. Who knows what will happen this weekend, next week, or whenever. This free agency period was filled with scrubs and a few good players...it was only marked as great b/c of the long wait...so let it go. People need to relax and breathe...cause you all sound pretty pathetic. Like the guy who was showing off how big his Dolphin schlong was...
Posted by: D | July 29, 2011 at 01:28 PM
We are on the same page Freedog.
Bulger is over the hill, and very unlikely to take a 'minimum' gig anyway, even if we would take him for that. Delhomme. Please! VY was just as likely to be a team cancer. Find me another diamond in this haystack. Cool your emotions folks and look at it from a rational perspective. We haven't had a franchise QB land in our lap, but neither is this an apocalypse given what was out there.
Stay classy CayminFinFan.
Posted by: Rick | July 29, 2011 at 01:28 PM
DB,
i would rather have Henne than VY........and as for Matt Moore he is a better back up than tyler thigpen.......anyway who cares we are mediocre at best again........so tired of knowing my team doesnt have a chance to compete.......havent been happy since Jimmy Johnson left......we need a new regime and i guess we will get it next year........maybe chuckie will be the coach..........gotta keep nolan........im just gonna hope the rookies show promise and everybody stays healthy so we can at least beat the bills twice
Posted by: jamesthefinfan | July 29, 2011 at 01:29 PM
The signing period isn't over. There's still an opportunity for Orton. The salary cap does go into effect until the 4th or when the union is re-certified. So Denver doesn't have to make a move on Orton until then.
Posted by: Michael | July 29, 2011 at 01:29 PM
Failure to sigh Pouncey??? WTF are you talking about?
Posted by: Freedog | July 29, 2011 at 01:29 PM
CALM DOWN PEOPLE!!
Even if we sign Matt Moore, it doesn't mean we won't get Orton. Orton will only stay in Denver if he restructures his contract (which he will only do if he is given the starting job). I applaud Ireland for not bidding against himself. IF we DON'T get Orton, then there is cause for disappointment.
Note to Ireland:
Bush and Orton will not be enough to energize the fan base. Bush can't stay healthy.
Don't react to fans' reactions that we aren't doing enough. Washington ALWAYS makes a splash in the offseason but stinks during the season.
I trust you know that if the Dolphins fail this season you will be looking for another job, therefore, I have faith you are doing the best job you can.
Posted by: Matt from CT | July 29, 2011 at 01:29 PM
CraigM never said anyone wouldnt touch VY. He only challenged me that no one would touch him psuedo right away.
CraigM, looks like I was right though because he and the Eagles seem to be salivating all over each other right now.
Posted by: DyingBreed | July 29, 2011 at 01:30 PM
I feel Matt Moore preculdes us from signing another qb, with that salary unless Henne is gone.
Posted by: qcs | July 29, 2011 at 01:32 PM
Sun Sentinel= NE Patriots
Herald= Miami Dolphins
Omar Kelly= Kyle Orton
Armando Salguero= Matt Moore
Posted by: Dim | July 29, 2011 at 01:32 PM
db... IS THAT MEAN THAT PHI HAVE TO PAY VY HIS 4.5 MILL BOUNS FROM LAST CONTRACT W/TITANS .
Posted by: ALoco | July 29, 2011 at 01:32 PM
Guys can we ALL take a breath. Where does it say that Matt Moore is the backup this year and they are done looking at QBs? The alternative is to do nothing and hope Orton gets freed up next week. Is that what you guys wanted? This was a strategic move by the Dolphins and nothing more. Matt Moore is not a bad QB and I don't care what anybody says. The team he played with in Carolina last year was TERRBIBLE!! You guys want to judge him on the guys he played with last year. How did Claussen's numbers look last year. How many games did Carolina win last year?
We needed another QB. If Ireland had done nothing and waited for Orton and got nothing then guys would have ripped him for that. To me this doesn't preclude them from getting Orton. Orton won't renegotiate with Denver, so the laternative for Denver is to pay him $9 mil to be there backup. Let's see how it all plays out before we rip Ireland.
Oh and if he's played this well I doubt they'll be too many guys on here saying 'good job Ireland'....'I was wrong'. Tat's just how thing swork around here.
Posted by: Craig M | July 29, 2011 at 01:33 PM
Freedog, You did call people names. You called me a fly on the ass of Dolphin Nation. If you going to talk sh*t then you should take sh*t
And as for being rational, I'm a fan brother. I don't have to be rational. I want a Superbowl NOW... is that rational? Nope! But I want it!
Posted by: CaymanFinfan | July 29, 2011 at 01:34 PM
jamesthefinfan,
If you think we're a mess now wait til "chuckie" takes over. Cowher is a much better "no-nonsense guy to have at the controls.
Cohwer is of Steeler pedigree and better understands what it takes to win against the better teams. This is a "throw it against the wall" and see what sticks regime we're under now. Chuckie isnt much different.
Posted by: DyingBreed | July 29, 2011 at 01:34 PM
Matt Moore..........omfg........we are the laughing stock of the league........right behind the browns........at least they had a good draft by most accounts.........i hate my life........at least i still got ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE FOOTBALL........ROLL TIDE

Dim - That's a great way to look at it!!
Posted by: ddill2 | July 29, 2011 at 01:35 PM
Matt from CT, we are not getting Orton. Read Ross's interview today and Jeff Darlington the other day. Denver would not be too smart putting their hopes in Tebow anyway. We go with Henne this year and if it don't work, first round pick on a QB next year.
Posted by: bobbyd12 | July 29, 2011 at 01:35 PM
