For the Miami Dolphins I'd pick .... quarterback No. 1

Quarterback No. 1 threw 20 touchdown passes and nine interceptions last year, culminating two seasons in which he threw 41 touchdowns and 21 interceptions while collecting 7,455 passing yards.

Quarterback No. 2 threw 14 touchdowns and 15 interceptions last year and in the past two seasons has thrown 36 touchdowns and 25 interceptions while his spirals have covered a total of 6,930 yards.

QB No. 1 is 28 years old, which suggests he still might have more upside left. Quarterback No. 2 is 34 years old which suggests you've probably seen him at his best already.

Quarterback No. 1 has played in a system very similar to the one the Dolphins will run in 2011. In fact, he's been in that system for two years.

Quarterback No. 2 has never played in a system similar to the one the Dolphins will run in 2011. QB No. 2 has always played in a West Coast offense.

So quick, pick one.

QB No. 1, right?

You just selected Kyle Orton over Donovan McNabb.

And the more I think about it, as the Dolphins and the NFL barrel headlong into next week's free agency-slash-trade period, Orton is becoming more and more attractive to me as Miami's logical acquisition.

We know McNabb will be available. The Redskins have demoted him to the No. 3 QB slot after he fell out of favor with coach Mike Shanahan. Geez, if you're a QB and cannot excel under Shanahan that means something's up-- but that's another story for another time.

McNabb will be available relatively cheaply -- perhaps for a fourth or fifth-round draft selection.

Orton? The Denver Broncos haven't exactly put him on the trade block. But there are whispers that are growing in volume as the league's first day draws closer that Orton will indeed be available. The Broncos seem to want to measure what they have in Tim Tebow and then decide where to go from there. Orton is a veteran caretaker luxury they seem willing to part with.

The price, contrary to popular belief, likely will not be objectionable. Perhaps a fourth-round pick. No higher than a third, I'm guessing.

So the question: Why wouldn't the Dolphins make a run at Kyle Orton? It makes perfect sense to me.

Ah, yes, the angry gallery chimes in with various complaints and yeah-buts.

He's not a franchise QB. True, he is not a franchise QB. But considering his statistics, his experience and relative youth, he would become the AFC East's second best QB if the Dolphins get him. Yes, Jets fans, that means Orton has been better the last couple of years than Mark Sanchez and that isn't likely to change in 2011 unless Sanchez improves by leaps and bounds. Beyond that, think of what the Dolphins might have done with a QB that provided the stats Orton posted last year. He threw 20 TD passes after losing his best offensive threat when Brandon Marshall went to the Dolphins.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, scored a grand total of 25 offensive TDs with only 14 of those coming from their starting quarterbacks. (Henne threw a TD vs. Tennessee but did not start that game.)

Anyway ...

As someone following me on twitter argued Thursday afternooon, Orton isn't likely to be a franchise QB because, well, those type of QBs don't historically go from one team to another. Really? Steve Young, Matt Hasselbeck, Mark Brunell, Matt Schaub, Jim Plunkett, and Michael Vick all were discarded by teams and went on to become quality starters. Kurt Warner was discarded by a several teams both early and late in his career and he will eventually be in the Hall of Fame conversation. So much for that.

Well, someone else complained, the Dolphins should not add someone like Orton because they should solve their QB issues through the draft. The draft indeed would be the right way to do it, but there is no draft planned for next week that I know of. So that argument is simply childish.

The Dolphins feel the need to do everything they possibly can to improve as much as they possibly can as quickly as they possibly can. Kyle Orton is a better QB than Chad Henne. Adding him would be an improvement. So do it!

There were will a chorus of folks saying the Dolphins would be better served sticking with Henne. That groups says Henne is worthy of that confidence because he's about to blossom. A smaller portion of that group believe perhaps the Dolphins should simply try to stink so they can position themselves for a high draft pick and a nice college QB to draft in 2012.

All of those thoughts have holes.

If Henne indeed is on the verge of proving you can suddenly become fantastic after struggling for two years, why would that preclude a move for Orton? If Henne is about to get suddenly good, he'd simply have no problem winning the starting job over Orton. And the Dolphins would then have a star being born in Henne and a competent reserve in Orton. It's a win-win.

And to the folks thinking a tank is in order in 2011 to line up for college star, I assume your last name is not Sparano or Ireland or anyone associated with the Dolphins. These guys are in the game to win. They are not going to sit around and stink so a good QB will be available to the next coach or general manager. That idea has no basis in reality so stop having it.

There are undoubtedly reasons why trying to add Kyle Orton to the Dolphins roster might not be a grand idea for the Dolphins. His name isn't Dan Marino, so I guess that's one reason. But I cannot think of many others.

It cannot hurt to investigate and negotiate. Maybe it doesn't work out. Maybe it does. Doing the work costs nothing but sweat. Time to work in my opinion.

Please follow me on twitter.

LMAOOIJPMP.....(Laughing my az off opps I just pooped my pants)At Lil Aloco, Apperantly your diffenition of greatness is semi deffirent then mine... again lMAO At Lil Aloco...., Gotta love him...

THE REAL ALoco is back from work............

CAN ORTON LIVE WITH HENNW IN THE SAME TEAM ?

I SAY NOOOOOO

ORTON IS VERY SURE OF HIMSELF ...

Who's the equivalent QB in the OC upgrade rationalization?

If the Dolphins use the same strategic method to add a quarterback as they did when they hired Daboll to replace Henning, the obvious new QB is going to be T. Jackson.

Because that's how the Dolphins roll....

TIM... YOU HAVE A GOOD POINT.... JEFF IRELAND ALSO LOVES TO SIGN UN DRAFTED PLAYERS .

HE MUST BE WORKING HARD TO SIGN ONE RB OR A QB FROM THAT GROUP OF UNLUCKY PLAYERS .

Ireland wants to pay for a Hyundai and hope it becomes a BMW.

HYUNDAI IS BECOMING A GREAT CAR ,,,I THINK IERLAND WANTS TO PAY FOR YOGO HOPING IT BECOMES BMW ,...............

Vince Young mando

Vy

I don't know, Arrmando. Orton is going to be expensive for a stopgap QB which he certainly is going to be here; besides, I don't think Denver will let him go, Tim Tebow is unproven and Orton is a good backup. For some reason, the Dolphins FO is banking on Henne. Do they know something we don't? Also, remember that the offensive philosophy of TS is to run the ball, control the ball and if so, we don't need a gunslinger but rather a thinking QB.

Armando have you lost your mind? To say any vet qb is better than Henne at this stage in his career for the most part is very unqualifying at best.

Orton has peaked, what you see now is pretty much what you will get for the rest of Orton's career. Heck Armando, in two seasons max Henne will at least be as good as Orton is right now.

As a matter of fact Henne is well on the way to being the next Kyle Horton. There maybe only one nfl qb who checks down more than Henne. That's Orton. Henne's gaining ground fast.

Armando this is why I wonder so greatly if you're just a Jetfan masquerading himself in the hallowed aqua and orange.

assuming Palmer and Kolb are too pricey
Terrelle Pryor
then VY Real competition most upside
then McNabb cuz he has a chip and would take the backseat in order to groom Henne
Orton will never win neither will Bulger

0rton for a fifth at most and thats still overpaying

Ortons td numbers didnt go down just because Marshall left. Marshall only had 7 td catches while with Orton.

Orton's td's went down because he's a checkdown charlie qb. Though he did miss the 5-7 td's he "may" have gotten with Marshall. I say "may" because Marshall only had 3 td catches as a dolphin in 2010.

Armando your Orton logic has "very serious" flaws. Before Orton VY would make much better sense. Neither will consistently beat defenses with the deep ball. But at least VY can also beat a defense with his legs. Posing more variety of threat to the opposition.

Orton's about to lose his starting gig to Tim Tebow. Why would we want to bring in Orton as insurance to a qb(Henne) thats better than Tebow right now.

WTH kind of logic is that!

If we had a superior starting qb and needed an adequate veteran backup. I would say hell yes to bringing in Orton. But bringing him in as "the answer" to our starting qb future? Are you out of your f^cking mind?

The list Armando used to compare Orton to was laughable at best. Plunkett never won a SB beginning the season as starting qb. He always ended taking over the starting qb job once the starting qb went down to injury. He never won the starting job in any of those two SB season with the Raiders.

Steve Young began his pro career with one of the worst nfl teams(Tampa) and playing behind one of the worst olines in nfl history. Who can be a great qb while spending most of the time running for your life. Once he went to a SB ready team(49ers) all of a sudden he was a hof'er.

Curt Warner? Nobody saw him coming. He's one of those type of players who comes from seemingly out of nowhere destined for greatness. You cant compare Orton to a freaking anomolly either. That's just insane!

Step up your game Armando, seems youve slipped and busted your head wide open. The white meats showing buddy. Get medical help immediately! LOL.......

Also Matt Shuab and Mark Brunnell are very forgetable. Shuab definitely has yet to live up to the hype prior to arriving with the Texans.

Also Armando, for your info Vick wasnt discarded by Atlanta, he went to prison. Primarily because of the PR fiasco it would have created, plus drafting Ryan, Vick was no longer in demand in Atlanta.

Pretty sad when the big thing to get excited about is Kyle Orton. You know you are the new Detroit Lions when ......

1st u were hot on Palmer
Which Home knows is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE & TOO OLD

2nd u r hot on Orton, who is a good QB and has a relationship w Brandon Marshall, but still might be a bit TOO EXPENSIVE & HAS BAD HAIR

So Armando
U might as well come around and get the pick right now

The Dolphins are going to sign QB Vince Young in FA

His QB RATING IS THE HIGHEST,VY can is also a good running QB and VY would be good running the Wildcat without having to pull the QB

The price is right for the Dolphins to sign Vince Young

This allows more $ room for Miami to sign the new #34 Stud RB DeAngelo Williams

Home was right last year with his only 2 picks in Miami Dolphin FA signings being, ...

Brandon Marshall
Karlos Dansby

Even though all sportswriter/bloggers said, "No Way Home"

So Armando
When all the Hot Air Settles

U might as well go w a proven Winner w real Miami Dolphin Insight

Home & RB Deangelo Williams + QB Vince Young

All in Good Fun, of course ;)

There Is No One Like Home
There Is No One Like Home
There Is No One Like Home

have a HAARPy day :(

Home, Whats up with the temp. in Minnasota, 123 degrees the other day...

Menace,
Without HAARPing on it, prob was agriculturally induced

The dew point sensor at Moorhead spiked to 88 degrees at 7pm Tuesday evening. That's the highest dew point ever recorded in Minnesota. (Previous record was/is 86 degrees)

When you combine the air temperature of 93 at that hour, the heat index calculates out to a Persian Gulf level of 130 degrees! That would also be the highest heat index ever recorded in Minnesota.

For the record over 3000 all time record high temps were set to date during the recent July 2011 heat wave in the USA

There will be a lot of head scratching by the sheeple this year as they look stupefied, shrug their shoulders and say, darn that "Mother Nature"

but some of us will know better,
wont we menace

have a HAARPy day :(

The ability of the HAARP deliver very large amount of energy, comparable to a nuclear bomb, anywhere on earth via laser and particle beams, are frightening. The project is being "sold" to the public as a space shield against incoming weapons, or, for the more gullible dunmmies, a device for repairing the ozone layer.

In addition to extreme weather manipulation, HAARP has a number of related uses: "HAARP does contribute to climate change by intensively bombarding the atmosphere with high-frequency rays. Returning low-frequency waves at high intensity could also affect people's brains, and effects on tectonic movements cannot be ruled out.

More generally, HAARP has the ability of modifying the World's electro-magnetic field. It is part of an arsenal of "electronic weapons" which US military researchers consider a "gentler and kinder warfare"

WEAPONS OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER

HAARP is a major part of the weapons arsenal of the New World Order under the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI). From military command points in the US, entire national economies can and are destabilized through climatic manipulations. More importantly, the latter can be implemented without the knowledge of the enemy, at minimal cost and without engaging military personnel and equipment as in a conventional war. The use of HAARP when it is to be applied, does in fact have devastating impacts on the World's climate.

Responding to US economic and strategic interests, HAARP is used to selectively modify climate in different parts of the World resulting in the destabilization of agricultural and ecological systems. It is also worth noting that the US Department of Defense has allocated substantial resources to the development of intelligence and monitoring systems on weather changes. NASA and the Department of Defense's National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) are working on never ending "imagery for studies of extreme heat, drought extreme snow, hail and rain fall, flooding, erosion, land-slide hazards, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, ecological zones, weather forecasts, and climate change" with data relayed from satellites. The year 2011-2012 HAARP Will be responsible for ending much of the life on planet earth

Roger Goodell is a member of the Illuminati

Robert Kraft & Jerry Jones are also members of the Illuminati

However only Jerry Jones is a Reptilian shape shifter

Armando has captured a picture of Jerry Jones without make-up still in the process of shifting back from Reptilian to human during the Dallas Cowboys draft last season

Picture even though a bit hard to look at, is an amazing rare shot of the Reptilian leader Jones in the final stage of the shape shifting transition and should be put back up for more blog topic discussion

no 1 qb must be less than 3rd round pick (4,5 i'm not even happy with)

stop trading away our future

may wind up trading away a player and pic for qb

only cheap (if cut) qb's (with exp) r mcnabb and young (he is a major psycho bomb for the team)

others r absolutely unproven for what they'll cost - orton, kolb etc or past it hasselbac/bulger

past its bulger and mcnabb r probably the best of a bad bunch but would give henne legit run for his money

should prob just keep thiggy as a back up this season, and TRUST henne to turn it round

Vince Young's record against teams Miami will play against and 2010 QB rating speaks for itself

So the man got down when losing and it troubled him

No sense HAARPing on it

Last year his QB rating was just under Tom Brady & Mike Vicks

Why do the dumb dumb try to focus on what happened when the man was down a few years ago?

Why?

Cuz Most People SUCK!

Vince Young throwing to Brandon Marshall, Simply The Bess, Hartline & Gates would be a real good thing

Period.

Home, One day the "Sheeple" Will wake up, Unfortunitly it'll be to late, And BTW, I saw that Video of the reptile Jerry Jones, Frightning......

Vince Young and Brandon Marshall,

Can't Wait.

Stop Stop Stop with the quarterback thing already. It's not like changing a lightbulb - next best thing and you're done. Henne (yes, Checkdown Chad) is our best chance to win this year. He only needs some protection help and a little courage. The line should be stronger the rest is up to him and the new OC. But Kolb or McNabb or Palmer or anyone other teams GAVE UP ON is not better for us. Change for the better I am in favor of. Change for the sake of change got us Barack Obama. Nobody sane wants that.

Garage, That's all the cowardly lion in the "Wizard of Oz" needed too......

CUBAN,YOUV BEEN AWAKE POSTING ALL NIGHTT,HOW MUCH DRINK HAVE YOU HAD?

Garage,

Stop Stop Stop with our quarterback,Henne. You've got to be kidding me with Henne! Here is one thing that is for sure about this guy, I don't care if he has all day long to stand in the pocket. He stares down one guy and then throws an interception. Truth is yeah he was a good QB for Michigan, but like so many, he can't take the next step.

Me personally, I agree with some of you about Vince Young coming to Miami. Look it makes sense, you get him for nothing, and he brings more than Henne. He can beat you with his legs. The question is, what if he now becomes the player that everyone thought he would be? Sounds good to me.

Last but not least, Stop Stop Stop this belief that Henne is going to turn it around.

That's my take.

Best, Gotta agree here, No way Chad(Neck Fat) Henne is the answer here, Though I dont think V.Y is either, Maybe Vince is getting bad press, I dont know, Just tired of 14 years of mediocrity(At best) from my beloved Air-breathers...

Brian Griese was a good QB when He was in Mich.,He's broardcasting now and sounds exactly like his old man, To bad he did'nt play like him.....

Cuban M,

Thanks. So many people on this blog talk about VY being a head case. You know what, we have head cases on our team. For me it's really scary to think a team like Buffalo could possibly get VY. We would pay the price dearly for that. Couple things about that, as I mentioned we would get him for nothing and the guy wants to come here. As far as Orton is concerned, everywhere this guy has been they want to get rid of him. LOL

Yeah, lets put a cap on trading our future draft picks.

That's my take.

come on man, henne hasn't been given enough time yet. what a joke. did freeman need more time, how about ryan, flacco, sanchez, bradford? either you are a leader and actually a good qb, or you are a bust. henne is a bust. if you are with a woman and she hasn't showed any signs of giving up that a## after 3 years what are you gonna do? enough said. time to move on!

Best, Gotta wonder why two teams(One got rid of him)and the other want's to get rid of this guy while he's in his prime??, Is it cause the cost or is it cause he's not worth his cost???I mean 10 Mil a year, This guy is getting Manning,Bress Dollars but yet two teams are casting him aside, And one of those teams are pretty good(Bears not the Broncos), Makes me wont to say NO....

D77, Three Years???, You gonna go out with a chick for three years without getting any tail???? LMAO Come on bro, The old saying applys here "If she dont put out after after three, she must be cast her out"...........

Sorry, Should have read "If she dont put out after three, Cast her free"...........

CUBAN, YOU SO DRUNK YUOR STARTING TO BABBLE, GET SOME SLEEP AND EAT A GRILLED CHESE SANDWICH,YOU SHOULD HAVE PLENTY OF CHESE ,YOUR ON WELFARE RITE?

I say taking Orton for a 4th-round pick is a no-brainer. Look, you guys are missing the point, he's not coming in to be a long-term starter, he's filling a hole!! Look at it from the GM/Coaches position, they're only signed QB had to sit on the bench the last time you saw him. The only other guy was on the practice squad. THAT'S IT!

So kill 2 birds with one stone. Get a possible backup who can compete for a starting position. Orton is by far better than Thigpen, so there's nothing to say there. Name me the last Dolphins' 4th round pick that would be worth keeping by passing on Orton (A.J. Edds?, Brian Hartline?), I think not. Truth is, I'd rather have a possible starting QB more than Brian Hartline ANY day of the week and twice on Sundays.

VY is a possibility, but he carries more risks, and I doubt the GM/Coach want to incur any more risk than they have to this of all years.

I rest my case.

dc............... WHAT MAKE YOU THINK ORTON WHEN HE'S TRADES AND GET PAID 11 MILLION THIS YEAR WILL BE JUST FILLING A HOLE ?

HE WILL BE A STARTER AND A GOOD ONE IN ANY HUNGRY TEAM FOR A QB LIKE ARIZONA OR SF .

DC, Got a feeling that after this season it's rebuilding time(Again) For the mighty air breathers, No matter who they pick up it's gonna be a wash, three years down the road nobodys gonna remember who played QB for the fish this season.. IMHO..

CUBAN............. I NOTICED YOU R A DESTROYING MORALE POSTER, I AM STARTING TO THINK YOU R A JET FAN ...PLEASE POINT OUT ONE POST IN THE LAST YEAR YOU POINTED OUT A POSITIVE THING ABOUT OUR DOLPHINS ........ I AM WAITING ...........

Aloco, Arnt you the one that loves Henne????, Always saying how under paid he is???, Come on Lil Buddy, Stick to a cause and stay with it.... You slam Mr. Breed for "Flip Flopptng" What about you Sir???

Lil Aloco, I've said a number of times that I love what they've done with the defense, With that being said besides the 02 Ravins no team with there strengh being defense has won a super bowl... What are your thoughts sir??

Speaking about free agents, Who are the cowboy free agents????????(These will be the ones signed).........

CUBAN............... YOU MASTER THE ART OF DECEPTION ............

DC,

Wow, I don't want to get rid of any of our draft picks this year. Orton is not the answer. He really has done nothing great and everyone wants to trade him. There is a reason why. Who knows.

Has anybody heard anything about AJ Edds? This guy had a pretty good career at Iowa. As far as Crowder is concerned, please give me a break. Incredibly all mouth with very little talent. Let's trade him for a fourth round pick, if we can get it.

That's my take.

For all you dumb ones that still think Henne is a bud about to flower into an elite QB, please stick your head in your toilet and pull the flush handle. Miami needs to make up a trade package that would include Henne, Cobbs and a third or fourth round pick and bring in Orton! Armando I'm with you on this one. Then go and get either D. Williams or Bradshaw, Santonio Holmes, and a monster guard (Robert Gallery). Put Ike Hilliard into the mix and now our offense is 100% improved. And lets not forget the defense- say Namdi Asomua?

If I had to bet I would bet that we re-sign Thigpen and that's all folks...status quo from last year on the QBs. HC and GM seem content if not stubborn to pin their wagons to Henne's star....
Gary Stevens is right....just below the surface of our few marquis players lies mediocrity...this team isn't that good at all, sad to say...

Best, Crowder was being "Groomed"(think about the word "Groomed", Means your helping a guy take your job)(Doubtful any player helps another player take your job) so lets stop with this garbage about "Groomimg" Joey(Duhhhh) Porter was "Grooming" Channing , channing got the mouth part right but missed the train on the playing part..., He Sux...

BTW, I Hear that Channing (Duhhh #2)Crowder has been retained by Gieco for there upcoming commericals for"It's so easy, even a caveman can do it", He needs no makeup according to Gieco spokesmen..........

IT'S AN OLD JOKE AND HOPE IT WOULD HELP OF YOU TRY A NEW ROUTINE CUBAN ...............

TIME TO GO TO WORK TO SUPPORT MOST OF YOU .........

OF (( GIECO ))

I am so bummed out they canceled the Hall of Fame game. Was looking forward to that since January.

Well there's one thing we can all agree on:

Saying NO Donovan McDrabb!!

Scratch his sorry a s s off the list.

Lil Aloco, Have fun at work(Lol) Though Iam sure you'll be on here for the next 48 hours and claiming it's the fake aloco....LMAO @ My lil amigo..

3 coaches in 3 years will have discarded Orton. And yet only in Miami do they see a guy like that as the next savior. Incredible.

Good morning carl,

Do you feel that Orton may possibly be an upgrade over Thigpen?
