First things first: Please check out my column from the pages of the Miami Herald this morning. It discusses how ugly the Dolphins looked as a football team at their first training camp practice Friday and why. It also tells you why there is good news on the way.
It also tells you that there still could be great news on the way. And the great news is that, contrary to many reports, the Dolphins have not completely closed the door on Kyle Orton.
Once you get done with that, head back here to the comments section because I will be live blogging the Dolphins 11 a.m. practice -- as I did yesterday.
See you in the comments section.

Mando is it crowded? Thinking of coming down from WPB 2,000 cap, will I get in?

DB, I hear ya. I'm listening to Miami radio from Chicago right now and everything sounds like a state of panic. And we're TWO days in. Hilarious
Posted by: dishpan | July 30, 2011 at 11:17 AM
Has to be some concern with a significant amount of time off Jake is still having significant shoulder issues.

Armando,
Here's my 2011 pro bowl watch for Dolphin players. Love it or hate it, baby:
Defense
Cam Wake
Vontae Davis
Sean Smith
Carlos Dansby
Randy Starks
Kevin Burnett-- (Wont be a pro bowl snub if he put up numbers like 2010)
Paul Soliai-- (Has to at least be an alternate to justify franchise tag)
Offense
Jake Long
Brandon Marshall
Kyle Orton--(I think he will be signed and we have enough weapons to make it happen)
Reggie Bush--(Must stay healthy)
Davon Bess--(This could be his year)
Charles Clay--(Im thinking he'll be a mismatch nightmare on dc's)
Clyde Gates--(I just have a longshot feeling about this kid)
ST's
Phillip Livas KR-- (You dont know him now but you will)
Dan Carpenter-- (We shouldnt have to kick fg's until his leg falls off this season.
Posted by: DyingBreed | July 30, 2011 at 11:19 AM
Mando,
Do you have a man crush with Marshall?
lol
Posted by: mandotoo | July 30, 2011 at 11:20 AM
ONE MORE THING........ TURNS OUT EVEN IF ORTON IS CUT, HE GETS PAID THE FULL 8 MILLION .
Posted by: ALoco | July 30, 2011 at 11:20 AM
By the way, the charges against Mrshall's wife are expected to be dropped. He would not cooperate. So no witness. She's obviously not going to testify against herself.
Case will be closed.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | July 30, 2011 at 11:21 AM
Mando,
The Denver Post reports the Orton deal is totally dead and the teams have stopped negotiating. Why is your source saying the deal is still alive?
What does your gut tell you? Does this deal go through or what?
I just can't believe Matt Moore is the QB supposed to push Henne... because the guy can't push Henne.
Posted by: DC | July 30, 2011 at 11:21 AM
Armando,
Marshall Looks Trim?
Marshall's already said he's in the absolute best shape of his career a few weeks ago. You didnt believe him?
Posted by: DyingBreed | July 30, 2011 at 11:22 AM
No Orton doesn't get paid full 8.8 Million if cut. He will get 4.4 million according to today's Denver Post
Posted by: bobbyd12 | July 30, 2011 at 11:23 AM
Anyone catch Michael Irvin's nutty ramblings on NFL Network? Scary
Posted by: dishpan | July 30, 2011 at 11:23 AM
ARMANDO....... THE CHARGES AGAINST MARSHALL'S WIFE HAVE BEEN DROPPED ALREADY ......
Posted by: ALoco | July 30, 2011 at 11:24 AM
the jar of butterlies is y far the best comment in this blog for two years
Posted by: David | July 30, 2011 at 11:24 AM
The Braylon Edwards talk was started on twitter last nite. No confirmation from a reliable source at this point.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | July 30, 2011 at 11:24 AM
Guys, I'll bet the Denver Post isnt reporting the Broncos will be able to restructure Orton's contract. Ireland's waiting for him to be released.
Posted by: DyingBreed | July 30, 2011 at 11:24 AM
Edwards to who? Miami?
Posted by: dishpan | July 30, 2011 at 11:25 AM
I really believe that Henne should be given one more chance under a 21century offensive scheme to prove us wrong. Let the Broncos keep Orton and spend the $$$ on OL, RB and depth.
Posted by: mandotoo | July 30, 2011 at 11:26 AM
Orton killed the deal according to the Post. He would make less money playing for Miami AND lose his free agency status if he agrees to play here. According to Denver Post, it is a bad deal for Orton, can't blame the guy, he is looking out for himself.
Posted by: bobbyd12 | July 30, 2011 at 11:26 AM
Dishpan, the Dolphins are in the mode of trying to find a real QB. Not many out there right now.
They will continue to work the Orton angle, maybe try the jedi mind trick on Mike Brown to trade for Carson Palmer (don't hold your breath), and hope for something good to drop from the sky (a la Pennington in 2008).
Not a great plan. But they have no real choice.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | July 30, 2011 at 11:26 AM
Correction: Clyde Gates is here. He is wearing No. 10.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | July 30, 2011 at 11:27 AM
DB- Kyle Orton is not a pro bowler, never has been and never will be, period. Average middle of the pack QB we are talking about here people! Time to wake up!
Posted by: Tee | July 30, 2011 at 11:27 AM
DB........... EVEN IF ORTON WAS CUT,H WILL BE GETTING HIS MONEY WHICH WAS UNKNOWN UNTIL TODAY ......
CHARGES AGAINST MARSHALL'S WIFE WAS DROPPED YESTERDAY ARMANDO .
Posted by: ALoco | July 30, 2011 at 11:27 AM
I think we still need to add another Veteran inexpensive OLB---to add quality depth behind misi, wake,
Targets---
Tully banta-cain
Antwan Applewhite
Brandon johnson i think is a cheap steal has some real talent at 6'5 240---28 years old--very Athletic---keep adding speed to our defense and coverage abilty---to let Nolan be creative
Posted by: allen | July 30, 2011 at 11:27 AM
Keep in mind that Henne was handcuffed and brow beaten by Dan Henning since hes been in the NFL. Hopefully Daboll will teach him to loosen up and improvise. Still kinda hope we get Orton though.
Posted by: Ixxy13 | July 30, 2011 at 11:27 AM
Tee, you are completely correct on Orton. Average. But that is an UPGRADE for the Dolphins.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | July 30, 2011 at 11:27 AM
ARMANDO,
HOW DO EDDS AND MISI LOOK...........
Posted by: jamesthefinfan | July 30, 2011 at 11:27 AM
DyingBreed, IMO Orton is head and shoulders above Tebow, Denver will keep him and pay the price in the end
Posted by: bobbyd12 | July 30, 2011 at 11:28 AM
Thanks Mando. The force isn't very strong with Ireland, so that's a bummer. Does Gates play fast?
Posted by: dishpan | July 30, 2011 at 11:28 AM
EDWARDS TO MIAMI..YES.......RUMOR IS ALL OVER THE JETS BLOG
Posted by: jamesthefinfan | July 30, 2011 at 11:28 AM
Mandotoo, you obviously haven't read the stuff I've written about Marshall or said about him on my radio show.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | July 30, 2011 at 11:29 AM
Don't lie to me James! Don't you dare get my hopes up!
Posted by: dishpan | July 30, 2011 at 11:30 AM
ORTON THE SUPER STAR IN DENVER, EVERY DAY HE PRACTICES ,HE OUT SHINE TEBOW AND QUINN ...............
Posted by: ALoco | July 30, 2011 at 11:30 AM
Carson Palmer again stated he would announce his retirement before playing another year for Cincy. See what happens
Posted by: bobbyd12 | July 30, 2011 at 11:30 AM
History shows you don't have to have an Elite QB to win a SB, but you do need at least an average one - Orton fits that bill.
Posted by: NHDolphan | July 30, 2011 at 11:31 AM
Mando,
Why are you sooo down on Henne? Don't u think that how he was handled by Henning had a lot to do with his lack of success. The Fins offensive plan last year was put together with Cliff NOtes! Come on man! A little more patience here! He also had a mediocre OL that made it more difficult to be unpredictable
Posted by: mandotoo | July 30, 2011 at 11:31 AM
DISHPAN,
IM SERIOUS ITS ALL OVER THE LANDING STRIP(JETS BLOG)...........COULD YOU IMAGINE.....HENNE WOULD HAVE A GREAT YEAR WITH MARSHALL EDWARDS THEN BESS IN THE SLOT THEN GO 4 OR 5 WIDE WITH GATES AND BUSH IN MOTION.WOW WOW WOW WOW
Posted by: jamesthefinfan | July 30, 2011 at 11:31 AM
Mando,
Is Long's knee residual from his injury in last year's preseason game? Or is this something new. Forget the QB situation, this is what concerns me.
Posted by: lafinsfan | July 30, 2011 at 11:32 AM

YEAH WHATS UP WITH JAKE.......THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PLAYER ON OUR TEAM
Posted by: jamesthefinfan | July 30, 2011 at 11:33 AM
TEE,
I put Orton on my pro bowl watch "if" he lands here because:
1. I like the offensive weapons he'll be surrounded by here in Miami.
2. Based on Bush staying healthy all season.
As I said to someone last night, a hurrican watch is not a hurricane warning. My list is a pro bowl watch, not a pro bowl warning. Now examine it again with that in mind:
My 2011 Dolphin Pro Bowl "Watch" List:
Defense

I need to know more about Edwards, but don't want to wander into the pervasive stupor that follows any trip into a jets blog. Help?????!!!!!
Posted by: dishpan | July 30, 2011 at 11:34 AM
Come on guys screw Orton at this point , lets just protect Henne give him a crap load of weaopans and build a defense that makes QB crap themselves and have faith that on this glorious 40th Anniversary of the Undefeated season we will conquer
Posted by: LoboNoches | July 30, 2011 at 11:34 AM
NICE TRADE EDWARDS FOR HARTLINE.........NO BRAINER
Posted by: jamesthefinfan | July 30, 2011 at 11:34 AM
Armando, possibly an upgrade and in my most humble opinion not enough of an upgrade to justify what he wants in terms of a contract and what we would possibly have to give up in trade scenarios.
Posted by: Tee | July 30, 2011 at 11:34 AM
ORTON IQ ABOVE ALL NFL PLAYERS ,HE ASKED FOR GUARANTEED MONEY AND FINS BACKED OFF .
Posted by: ALoco | July 30, 2011 at 11:35 AM
heard Ireland likes Ross's package and is milking it for a 7th rd
Posted by: figuro | July 30, 2011 at 11:35 AM
Pablo, don't you think there are worse team than Miami. I do. Try being a Jacksonville fan, Cincinnati, Denver fan, Carolina fan, Oakland fan. So don't put thinks out of perspective.

Posted by: jamesthefinfan | July 30, 2011 at 11:38 AM
Jake Long and the o-line are far more important than orton
Henne with solid o-line MUCH BETTER THAN Orton on last years team...
so think about it.
