First things first: Please check out my column from the pages of the Miami Herald this morning. It discusses how ugly the Dolphins looked as a football team at their first training camp practice Friday and why. It also tells you why there is good news on the way.
It also tells you that there still could be great news on the way. And the great news is that, contrary to many reports, the Dolphins have not completely closed the door on Kyle Orton.
Once you get done with that, head back here to the comments section because I will be live blogging the Dolphins 11 a.m. practice -- as I did yesterday.
See you in the comments section.

If we brought Edwards into the fold. We could make an "outter-worldly" trade of Hartline and get back a box of moon rocks in return!

Posted by: ALoco | July 30, 2011 at 11:40 AM
Ortons numbers and play have him on the bubble of a top tier qb in this league. who is better? Manning, Brady, Rivers, Rodgers, Rothlesberger, Vick, Eli?, Cassel? Mcnabb(now)? Schaub, who am i missing? Thats about all i can think of. He's better or on par with everyone else that is even close to that list. That is a HUGE upgrade from anything we have had since Marino. Someone tell me different and talk me off the ledge please.
Posted by: James | July 30, 2011 at 11:41 AM
Folks, I continue to predict the Dolphins 2011 QB will be Kyle Orton.

YES IT'S TRUE...HENNE IS HAVING A BAD DAY ...HE OVER THREW MARASHALL AND OTHERS /
Posted by: ALoco | July 30, 2011 at 11:47 AM
relax folks, this is a poker game.
a stare down. and both teams have a good idea what cards they are holding.
but here is the kicker.
do you really think Ireland bets his career on Henne?
No chance, a deal gets done, he is just holding out for a good deal. Its 4 days into free agency, there is no rush. If he signed a new deeal (very likely) he wouldnt even be able to practice to the 4th anyway.
Orton will be a Fin, the sky is not falling.
Feeding the media bs is part of the poker game, its called bluffing.
Posted by: donpaizon | July 30, 2011 at 11:48 AM
the answer is yes lobo
Posted by: jamesthefinfan | July 30, 2011 at 11:48 AM
I hope your right Armando - I want to see Orton in Aqua and Coral (orange) this year.

Highlight of practice so far is Brandon Field's 60yd punt!
Posted by: DyingBreed | July 30, 2011 at 11:48 AM
can you give us more play by play? what the hell is going on out there?
Posted by: Eric | July 30, 2011 at 11:48 AM
it would be easy to open talks with denver but the $ for orton would have to make sense for orton to accept. we overpaid for bush;i'd rather overpay orton because you cant win without him.
Posted by: greg z. | July 30, 2011 at 11:49 AM
I agree jamesthefinfan I think this is going to be a killer squad and if by some grace of the Football Gods we get Miller,Edwards and Huff or any combination of the 3 then it is on baby

why do i get the feeling that the Fins already made the deal for Orton, but can't announce it until Aug. 4th? why? the deal perhaps includes Henne going to Denver, and the Fins would be without a veteran QB running practices for that long because Orton won't be allowed to participate in team practices until Aug. 4th. Think about it, we have no legit QB in camp...
Posted by: dfins006 | July 30, 2011 at 11:51 AM
Hold on, if these practices are open to the public, than there should be someone with a camera so that we all can view this practice through live streaming.

James, that is AWESOME! I'd love it of we started stockpiling weapons. Love it.

POIZEN.... I AM THE BIGGEST HENNE FAN BUT IT'S ALL TRUE ...MARSHALL WAS LITTLE UPSET WHEN HE OVER THREW HIM BUT WHY ARMANDO ISN'T SAYING A WORD ABOUT ANYTHING........
WHAT KIND OF LIVE CRAP IS THIS ?
Posted by: ALoco | July 30, 2011 at 11:52 AM
As sad as it is, Henne has shown what he is. He is not a NFL starting QB never will be. This said, no way the Dolphins starting QB is in camp right now, probably not gonna be Orton, but they will sign another QB to the roster. IMO Bulger, Kitna, Delhomme, or Anderson are on their way.
Posted by: VA FIn Fan | July 30, 2011 at 11:53 AM
Sorry for the infrequent updates fellas. I'm chasing the Braylon Edwards possibility.
Trying to either confirm or kill the rumor. Right now it looks to be bogus.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | July 30, 2011 at 11:54 AM
Ace, it was so strange. Rich Eisen was visibly perturbed. Sapp sounded like a scholar by comparison.
Posted by: dishpan | July 30, 2011 at 11:54 AM
C'mon Mando! Too good to be true, huh?
Posted by: dishpan | July 30, 2011 at 11:56 AM
I hope Orton does not hear a woo from the Dolphins. We have a good squad of quarterbacks now with Devlin and Moore coming on board, and Brandstater having never been tested here. I think Henne will be the guy though with a new offensive coordinator, but if not then maybe we can get some LUCK in next years draft.
Posted by: Rick | July 30, 2011 at 11:56 AM
Thumbs down on Braylon Edwards...No thanks!
Posted by: Tee | July 30, 2011 at 11:56 AM
Jul 30 The Jets do no plan to bring Edwards back, Manish Mehta of the Daily News reports.
Recommendation: The report states that at this point there is simply not enough money to get a deal with Edwards done, though we suppose that could change with the Jets needing to add wideout depth somehow. For now, Miami and Minnesota are among the teams thought to be interested in adding Edwards, one of the more high-profile free agents who is still available . " Rotowire"
Posted by: LoboNoches | July 30, 2011 at 11:56 AM
I just went to a bunch of Jets blogs and I cant find the Braylon Edwards story anywhere, except the NY Daily News which says the Jets have enough cap money to re sign him
Posted by: bobbyd12 | July 30, 2011 at 11:57 AM
I guess I could spend my time recounting the Brandstater handoffs to Nic Grigsby or I can try to do some reporting.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | July 30, 2011 at 11:58 AM
LoboNoces, LOL two writers from the same paper with totally different views on Edwards. Without Nmamandi though, the Jets certainly now have enough cap space
Posted by: bobbyd12 | July 30, 2011 at 11:59 AM
VA fln fan. SOOOO 2 years as a starter on a poorly equipped team.
Last years team all around was a joke disaster, o-line was miserable, Hennign and game plan was worse.
and we have seen all Henne hs to offer?
how does that add up?
Posted by: Poizen | July 30, 2011 at 11:59 AM
Armando,
Your stance on orton is one that makes perfect sense. You see what I see in that there is NO WAY that Sporano & Ireland will rest this season/career on the shoulders of chad henne again. The Dolphins will evenutally fold and give both Denver and Orton what they want.
They're just that desperate... Or at least they should be
Posted by: CaymanFinfan | July 30, 2011 at 12:00 PM
Nice and sarastic, I like it Armando! Slap 'em around a little bit
Posted by: Tee | July 30, 2011 at 12:00 PM
No thanks on Edwards. How is Gates doing ?
Posted by: Best there is, Was, And ever will be. | July 30, 2011 at 12:00 PM
Why waste money on Orton when we can spend to bring in Miller and Huff instead ?
Posted by: LoboNoches | July 30, 2011 at 12:01 PM
Cayman, we agree.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | July 30, 2011 at 12:01 PM
Orton is our best chance to win. The dolphins have been in perpetual rebuild mode now for the better part of a decade. The idea that we should hold out to either try and draft or miraculously snag a frachise qb in free agency will ensure we're in rebuild mode for another decade.
We have some pieces in place and should go with the best option we can acquire for the most important position on the field, which is Orton. Make it happen Ireland.
Posted by: Jason | July 30, 2011 at 12:02 PM
The Kevin Burnett contract is 4 years, $21million. $9.8 million guaranteed.
Posted by: Armando Salguero | July 30, 2011 at 12:02 PM
who cares if we get Braylon Edwards or the second coming of jerry rice, when you have the malfunctioning robo-Henne out there throwing passes its doesn't matte.
GO get Orton.
