Miami Dolphins cut Channing Crowder

The Dolphins have cut linebacker Channing Crowder, I reported on my twitter minutes ago.

Crowder, 27, was in the final year of his contract and was scheduled to make $5 million. Crowder participated in the Dolphins practice this morning and was a starting inside linebacker along with Karlos Dansby.

The Dolphins save all $5 million of Crowder's salary against the salary cap.

The Dolphins have options at inside linebacker. First-year player A.J. Edds practiced Friday for the first time since suffering a season-ending knee injury last year during training camp. He seemed completely healthy. The club also has veteran Tim Dobbins as a backup.

Crowder will have suitors to be sure. He is talented, young and very good in coverage. But he has never been a big-play better, having only one career interception, three fumble recoveries and four forced fumbles. He also struggled to stay healthy, playing only 11 games last year, and 16 games only twice in six years -- his first two with the team.

I do not know Miami's plan beyond the Crowder dismissal. I don't know if they're planning a monster move and had to clear cap space. I don't know if they were just done nursing Crowder's injury.

One league source is telling me the Dolphins are interested in San Diego free agent middle linebacker Stephen Cooper as a possible replacement. Cooper is 32 years old. Nick Barnett is also out there, but now I'm just speculating.

Wow, Matt Moore has not thrown for over 200 yards in a NFL game... I did not know this.

Ugh.

Yes, Charlie it is really me. I have nothing better to do with my time then to hang out here on Armando's blog. Actually, I should have listened to you guys, you know more then me. Well, not really, but this is more fun then actually working. Just don't tell Mr. Ross, I don't think he would be too happy!

Love,
Jeff

MR "Make Me GM"

Vernon Carey was not a free agent pick-up. He was drafted by the Dolphins in the first round in 2004. Perhaps, you should hold off on sending in your resume.

Yeremiah Bell, it should be said, has been terriffic. He's probably my favorite Dolphin -- though one whose getting a little long in the tooth.

Crowder cut? Freeing up cap space?

Mystery team holding up the anticipated Jets/Asomugha deal?

Hmmm...might the Phins be involved?

Now that would be interesting...

Mando, is it true that we have signed Mat Moore??? WTH?

Great move! Crowder is the epitome of average LB. Nick Barnett would make sense & most important he'd make plays.

Moore will be an exceptional 3rd string QB! Now with the new rules too, he will be able to suit up every week (instead of being the emergency QB). That's tremendous value! By the way, please go to the Dolphin store at miamidolphins.com and buy your Moore jersey! Mr. Ross said if we sell 6 today, he will give me one free!! What a great boss!!

Love,
Jeff

I hear Zach Thomas wants to come out of retirement. I'd take him ina b ox over Channing.

Sorry Nick, but I have no interest in signing a guy who I don't even know how to pronounce or spell his name. Too hard for jersey sales.

Love,
Jeff

yea nick.....hold ur breath real long cuz 5 mil freed is putting us right up there with jets/cowgirls getting Asomugha....*lol*

Is it 5 mil saved or 2.5? Conflicting reports...

Jeff,

Please sign me another retread. I will hug him and squeeze hima nd pet him and love him and I will name him George.

Love,
Tony

Dear Mr. Salguero

Remember that intercetion/tackle for a loss that Channing Crowder made during that really important game.....me niether.

Also with the departcher of Channing Crowder the remaining demons of Joey Porter are finally put to rest.

Soiled :)

Sure thing Tony. Can you please by a Moore jersey from our website? I just need 5 more to sell to get one free from Mr. Ross. Pretty please with sugar on top? I promise to make it up to you!

Love,
Jeff

This is the best move this season...this guy was the ultimate pretender...Amazing you can buffalo people so long and make good money doing it.

The Miami Dolphins are out of the Kyle Orton trade talks for now after they reached a two-year, $5 million deal with Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Moore, a source confirmed.

Moore's deal, first reported in The Oregonian, puts all Orton talks on hold. Moore will compete with Chad Henne and rookie Pat Devlin for playing time.

The Dolphins had been talking to the Broncos but never reached a trade agreement that satisfied Broncos president John Elway.

UGH

Dear Jeff,

Mr. Ross had 5 fewer jerseys made than you need to get your free one. How odd that he wouldn't give you what you need to reach your goals. Go figure.

Love,
Tony

Not surprised at all, Channing hasn't been a difference maker for years. I've read a couple times that Miami really likes Osi from the Giants, and think he could be a monster in a 3-4 system. Would have to come via trade obviously. Maybe they're making room to bring in Zach Miller? Especially if Nnamdi goes to the Jets, they'll need a big time TE.

Armando, i read here last week from a blogger named , "HOME" the Dolphins should and would cut LB Channing Crowder and save 5 million dollars.

This is the same blogger who reported yesterday to us first that Reggie Bush was now signed by the Dolphins for 2 years.

Who is this blogger named, "HOME" and how did he know these things first?

Some of us readers think, "HOME" is you using a pen name, or is "HOME" a Miami Dolphin scout?

I am not sure who, "HOME" really is but i do like getting the information from him first.

Thank-You Armando, i will wait for your reply.

Moore and Bush Baby!!!!

*****And when U say Miami, Ur talkin Super........Bowl???****

So basically the Phins are going to try and get Orton off waivers if he's cut...

WHY DOES IT FEEL LIKE WE'RE DUMPSTER DIVING?

tHEY ARE FIXING TO MAKE A SERIOUS PLAY FOR oRTON.......THEN MOORE ORTON DEVLIN AND HENNE WILL COMPETE.......WATCH OUT BOYS........BIG NEWS ACOMIN.........BYE CHOWDER, DIE IN A FIRE I HATE YOU............BEST MOVE SO FAR

Tony,
I am not very good at math, that is why we hired that capologist. What is her name? You think it I bought a new car and put it under the salary cap, Mr. Ross would notice? Mr. Ross is a great owner... has no idea what's going on. You got to love it. I think I have him fooled for at least another year. By the way, I am sorry about all of that Harbaugh stuff. Do you forgive me yet?

Love,
Jeff

Home has a history of being on top of things. He's often a tad too optimistic about game results, but he's a sharp tack and if you can filter out the fake "Home" posts, his stuff is usually worth paying attention to.

I've never known his true identity, but after years on the boards I can say the guy knows his stuff.

I always liked Corwder. he was a leader and glue that held the run defense together. Didn't put up huge stats but the defense was always way worse with him out. There better be a replacement because unless we sure didn't see someone even close to Crowder last year. Maybe it's Edds but as JS said, expecting a rookie coming off an ACL injury to be your day 1 starter is awfully ambitious at best.

How about we start spending money instead of saving it? Well, spending it n players that will ahve an impact anyway. F'n matt Moore. That signing makes me angry. I'd rather they go with Devlin as the #2, and if Henne got hurt, sign a street vet FA. i don't think anyone else would've been in a rush to sign matt friggin moore

I see nothing wrong with Moore Bush... oh wait.. you're talking players... nevermind.

WOW...die in a fire?

I wonder if Home went to Miami Dolphin camp today?
I am waiting on his usual yearly informative and humorous scouting reports.

Also, love how Stephen Ross says he's not meddling, yet tells the Palm Beach post that Orton wouldn't be an upgrade over Henne. Yes, this team is owned by a complete idiot.

Gary,

Carey and Bell while from previous regimes, as with Crowder were still signed by this regime as FREE AGENTS...

P.S. We still suck...at least we git a KR and PR (if he can stay healthy)

Poizen,

Some of these you just have to pretend aren't even posted.... some things just defy explanation.

Hey Jeff, been a fan for over 30 years and will till I die. I'm 38 just want to win a Super Bowl before those damn Jets. True fan Jets hater. Lol

Alright. So we just cut the linebacker that helped us tremendously against the run for an unproven rookie who was injured last year.

&

We lost out on a QB that would have been an improvement to Henne for somebody who will be a lifetime back up. But at least this regime followed their MO and was familiar with the new QB. Heaven knows that's helped us tremendously with all the retreads we've gotten from Dallas.

Yep. We are going in the right direction. Ireland & Sparano; get those resume's ready. You're going to need them...

NO MOOOOREEE! CHANING "BIG TALK NO PLAY" CROWDER.See you later Gator.

HOME is a leak in our office. Unfortunately he has some naked pictures of me in uncompromising positions which I errr, forget that. Anyway, I feed him with info for you the fans! Just don't tell Rex Ryan. He is big and mean and scares me!

Love,
Jeff

Stephen Cooper? Are you kidding me? I am losing what is left of my confidence in Ireland by the second!

Isn't Bush outdated?

Ralph Wilson Tought Ross everything he needed to know about being an OWNER......a clueless one at that....ross teaching up Ireland , then followed soon by fist Pump sparano...

Hey Pete... I heard that Ireland already has a deal with Dallas to trade our 1st round pick in 2020 for Tony Romo at the end of the 2018 season.

True story.

NNAMDI TO THE COWBOYS..........IT WILL HAPPEN

We've beaten the Jets 5 of the last 6.

WINNING!!!

Love,
Jeff

Romo and a Pizza, then were in.

dOLPHINS TO SIGN T.O.

Best move the Dolphins have made in years. Loud mouth ignorant jerk who was overpaid and underperformed. Don't let the door hit you in the @ss. See ya!!!

PS my fav Crowder comments:

“They didn’t see Chad Henne get hit twice when he slid. Yeah, a little Stevie Wonder and Anne Frank,”

“Who was that? Is that the blind girl? Helen Keller . . . I don’t know who the f— Anne Frank is. I’m mad right now. F— it. I’m not as swift as I usually am.”

Is there still any chance we can talk brett favre into playing for us for a string of cheese????....

Careful what you wish for, unless you like leftover pizza.

Crowder was a great interview, he did make me laugh... If anything, I give him props there, and he riled up Fat Boy Rex... Actually had him look up from eatin the corns in his wifes toes.

superPHIN, you ruined the surprise... why do you think we passed on ortona nd are clearing cap space?

Anyone know where Miami is on the cap?

If they made a substantial offer to Deangelo (assuming they did) with Orton in their plans they must have some room to play...

I don't see why the idea of Asomugha is so easily dismissed if we have the room and a need in the secondary...

I'd tell them to add an extra year just to get him before the over rated hype machine Jets got him.

Even better, I'd have it signed and not announce it until every substantial player was signed so the Jets missed out on any upgrades!

iD LOVE FOR BRETT FAVRE TO COME IN AND TEACH HENNE AND DEVLIN SOME TIPS AT SCORING IN CANASTA OR SHUFFLE BOARD........THEY WOULD BE AWESOME ON CRUISES

Marc I get that Carey, Bell etc were RE-signed as free agents. But re-signing free agents is not much of a reflection on a team's talent acquisition skills.

Good in coverage? Armando did you see that Colt's game?

Hey J Ireland. Any chance we can sign Michael Moore too?

Of course his comments before the Dolphins played the Giants a few years back were also a close runner up to the post game Baltimore comments I posted above:

“I couldn’t find London on a map if they didn’t have the names of the countries. I swear to God. I don’t know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I learned that. I know London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. That’s the closest thing I know to London. He’s black, so I’m sure he’s not from London. I’m sure that’s a coincidental name.”

Let's figure this out. They were 14 mil under cap. Bush is costing 2.5 mil, McDaniel 2, Moore 2. So that leaves 8.5 mil in cap before the Crowder move. So they have 13.5 mil to spend. I think they may be making room for a few moves instead of one BIG move. Guard, Linebacker, and TE are positions that might be in play here.

superPHIN, you ruined the surprise... why do you think we passed on ortona nd are clearing cap space?

Sorry steve, that doesnt make sense, Ireland NEEDS to be able to trade draft picks and former draftees in order to get over the hill type talent....just sayin!!!!

Hey Clammy -

I spit on you!

Bwaaahahaahaaaaaa

We screwed up by paying some guy on our team $15 million. I don't even know his name, but he plays NT. The guy supposedly isn't even that good. Now we can't take it back, so we have no cap room. Tony keeps saying to me "Stupid is as stupid does" but I don't know what the means....
I'm sure he'll get over it.

Love,
Jeff

I will give you this, Home did report last week that I would be cutting Channing Crowder and saving 5,000,000.00 this season.
Home called Crowder, "a JackAZZ

I looked back at the blog, Home said, "Clown Crowder is a distraction tos football players on this Dolphin team." "You cannot win a championship w your mouth."

releaseclowncrowder.com

ARMANDO, $5 MILION IS INCORRECT!!!

Ive been posting "$2.5 MILLION" for the last couple days.

CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELVES GUYS, EVEN THE SS IS ALSO POSTING CROWDER SLATED FOR $2.5 MILLION IN 2011.

ARMANDO IS THE ONLY ONE POSTING $5 MILLION.
