Brett Favre is not coming to the Dolphins -- period

Brett Favre is not coming to the Dolphins.

OK?

Despite Internet rumors fueled by innuedo from journalist twitter accounts, the Dolphins have no intention of signing Brett Favre, a highly placed team source is telling me.

Chad Henne is the team's starting quarterback today. Period.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

Oh, I assume some of you will counter with the fact coach Tony Sparano declined to rule out the possibility today during his press conference. He was asked directly if the Dolphins would be signing Favre, who will be 42 in October.

"I can't rule anything out," Sparano said. "I'm giving you the only answer I can give you."

Look, the Dolphins won't rule out re-signing Dan Marino. They won't rule out trying to trade for the rights to Joe Namath. They have yet to confirm that they will open the regular-season in September. This is, how to put it, a bung-tight organization that believes everything should remain in house.

So coach was simply doing what the Dolphins do: Giving the media nothing.

Behind the curtain, however, the truth is different. I think I can sometimes, in admittedly rare instances, get the truth out of these people. I have been told in no uncertain terms Favre will not be joining the Dolphins.

Meanwhile, back on Earth, the team will have an open practice at 7:15 tonight. I will be there for a live practice blog. Hope to talk to you in the comments section then.

Poizen, this year hasn't happened yet. After it occurs, it can be factored in.

Let's live in the now. I just posted something irrefutable. People can only make excuses or try to spin it.

Facts upset people because they can't put their bias & fandom aside to accept it. People cannot decipher negativty from reality.

Me personally, I'm not being negative. I'm keeping it real. We've had many disagreements in the past. Never once have I told you that you're wrong.

But some people can't accept that when people speak the truth, it's not meant to be negative. And whining about whiners makes you a whiner!

favre is not the kind of VETerinary medicine I need!

only wins will save me

joe - the name implies what i think of the fins performance the last two years I just think that this chef/FO needs more time in the kitchen

My point is this franchise has been struggling for quite some time and that's the reason why some fans like myself are getting impatient. It's one thing to have a bad year or whatever, but last time I checked 2 playoff games in a decade is not that great. Not what I would call a winning franchise.

The Miami Dolphins would like to announce the LEAGUE YEAR IS NOW OFFICIALLY BEGUN! Reggie Bush and the rest of our "Dream Team" free agents will practice tonight! I would also like to announce we have no intention of trading for Kyle Orton! Take that John Elway!! Who looks stoopid now?

Love,

Jeff

Anyway, later guys...

And the circus continues!

Joe is like a child he mumbles of some stats and opinions then when anyone tries to counter or lend their opinion he just stands there screaming FACT FACT FACT FACT FACT

And then there is the class shown by dm

Oh well, we have Henne as starter again.. Might as well get behind him and hope for the best.

fin for life:

Please substitute farve "is" better than Henne, with "was"...

The eldster is nowhere the calibre of our cannon-arm this year.

Now, let history speak for itself...Farve's is already etched, Henne's is about to be carved.

Now, go back to your cave and try drawing something on the rock walls.

Perhaps this stubborn FO is more knowledged than you...

No, Let me correct that sentence. You are like a box of rocks compared to the inside (and all around) stigmas of the NFL. Including the QB.

And cheerleaders if you wish?

wolf, 4 full offseasons hasn't been enough for you. That's how we differ.

And again, in response to my post, I see people are making EXCUSES or spinning. Debating the criteria this and that. LOL Just accept it, men!

The criteria is wins. When you try to debate that it's about playoffs or superbowls or this or that etc you are only evading.

We are comparing 3 teams with similiar rebuilding models going on. Two have improved & 1 hasn't. And the one that hasn't has had 1 full offseason more than the other two. That's fact. There is no way to spin it.

You gauge the improvement based on your win total. Change it from wins to playoff wins to whatever you want. You just can't accept the truth.

Poizen, why argue with Joe Blow?? He knows it all better then anyone here and in the NFL. Any former or current player, scout or NFL guy who says Henne or any other QB needs 3 years of starts before a determination on them, is dumb according to King Joe. Joe Blow has built a dozen SuperBowl winners and knows better the ANYONE. He is the King of Madden and should be held in high esteem. Don't argue with this NFL genius.

Joe, I have to run for the evening,

However, are you calling me some people? I can't tell.

I think I have a really good grasp on reality, and the last two years have stunk.

But the reality is this year has not started, and I am posting about this year, the here and the now, like you mentioned.

Until this team starts playing football, we do not know what we have here and now, you me, or anyone.

That is reality. And since you and I do not have a crystal ball there is no way we can sit here and KNOW this team will suck.

I do NOT THINK they will at all from the pieces they have IF the O-LINE is good this year.

You and others criticize me for that, and say i am crazy, yet, you have no proof yet this team will be bad.

That is my point. Let the team play some games.

Maybe, just maybe... We will be better than your "reality" is stating.

Have a good night.

I'll admit that is has been very hard (crushing at times)to be a fan over the last decade or so but if you really look at where this team is now compared to where it was just a few years ago there is definitely room for optimism going forward.

The defense is built now and it's young and talented, and they are in the process of building up the offense which will also be a young, talented unit. Once all the pieces are in place this will be very talented team on both sides of the ball and one that i think will be very competitive for years to come. IMO, this front office has done a pretty decent job to this point. They have made mistakes, but i think they have done more good things than bad and i think Ireland is a good, young GM. With a little bit of luck this team could be special in the years ahead. Bring on New England..I can't wait!!!

Go Dolphins!!!

ALL HAIL KING JOE BLOW!!!

Theres bobby. On call to call people names yadda yadda yadda. All because he takes offense to everything.

Bobby, stop following me. You're acting like a jaded lover. You're abeaten clown, get over it already!

FYI - I'm pretty sure my IQ in football & life in general, is at least 40 points higher than yours.

Cigar maker? True about the age, I just increased the resolution on this thing and I can't see s-it.

what is most discouraging to me is that ireland is an amateur in a professional poker game. he is a pretender who is in over his head who seems to like exchanging pieces for no particular reason. one year he drafts only offense, the next 10 LB's and so on. he doesnt have a system or a plan(like pats or jets). he never made cap room so he could get the pieces he needed. its basically only reggie bush(part time player) and kevin burnett. whoever ireland signs to a big contract is gone in just 1-2 years. they couldnt see jerry and carey whiffing on blocks while their feet were stuck in cement???

LMAOROTF Over Alocos list.

I said it before and will say it again, the problem IMO starts with selling everybody on a plan not sticking with it and running in circles with no clear plan 4 years in to this regime. How long are we supposed to hear and see the team constantly switch gears before we can question the teams direction? Poizen made a nice observation about the turn arounds in K.C. and Tampa and I thought I`d throw another one out there. How about Atlanta in 07 they were in flames with Patrino quitting in week 13 and Vick locked up.

I thought they were dead in the water for seasons to come then when they couldn`t get Parcells they signed Thomas Dimitroff who hired Mike Smith and began to rebuild, 4 years later they are a Super Bowl contender and we are stuck in neutral still trying to figure out what are next move is, seems now looking back they hired the right young GM with a plan not some fossil who had been a good HC once back in the day to run the operation. So again I ask when is it alright to question the direction of thefranchise??????

How old is kris?

First

BYE THE WAY GREG Z IS THE NUW CEO OF THE GANG OF DEFEAT AND DYEING BRED IS THE CEO OF THE DONKY BREGADE.

It is going to be Henne, which everyone should know is not the answer. Who is the answer? The draft, and we need to do so in the first round, with someone they fall in love with. No Brett Favre, or Kyle Orton is going to fix the long term problem. Lets except what it is and hope we have luck with the draft in the next year, or year after. It is what it is, 7-9, or 8-8 with average QB play now.

Who the hell is Jason Trusnik?

Marooned @5:00

Didn`t get the attack on any comments I made regarding Farve? I`ll re-post for you what I had to say on the subject.

All of this and bringing in Tiki Barber (36) for a look after 5 years removed from the game and you then have to take bringing in Brett Favre a little more seriously than Mando is giving it credit for. It could end up being a blessing in disguise because when they try and reign that ego maniac in and he ignores them the blow out will come like it did last season in Minn. which caused HC Brad Childress his job but you can`t discard the possibility either.

Every team in our Div. significantly improved there D-Line`s, in N.E. pairing Wilfork inside with Haynsworth. The Jets selecting two DT`s early in the draft and the Bills grabing a sure fire bet in DT Dareus, we needed to move on this by addressing the OL with another superior inside talent because running in our Div. this year will be tough and were coming with a rookie and a player in Bush who won`t be very effective if run in between the tackles.

It's always ok to question the direction of the franchise......that's what fans are supposed to do. It's the venomous stuff that i think is over the top.

This team was poor to bad in just about every area imaginable 4 years ago (1-15) and it has been like building an expansion team from scratch, but without the high picks a new expansion team would receive. I like the way they are building this team thru the draft and not mortgaging the future by overpaying for free agents for short term gain.

I know it's hard as a fan to have any patience right now after the last decade of futility here but these guys do have a plan and that is to build the team for the long haul and get it to where the top teams in the league are right now. I don't see teams like Pittsburgh and Green Bay overpaying for short term gain and i hope this team continues along the same path. Have some faith.....better days are ahead!!

Cmon Joe, I wanna be able to apologize to you. You said Joe Theisman is dumb. All you gotta do is answer the questions.
1. How many years did you play in the NFL?
2. How many GM positions have you held?
3. Why is Theisman and the numerous scouts and other NFL people who said a QB needs three years to develop so wrong but your so right??
4. Put out your NFL resume Joe, back yourself up, your so experienced and everyone else is so dumb, tell us why and back it up with your incredible years of getting paid by the NFL
We all need to know Joe!!

During the Lock-out, Kyle Orton used to paint Rex Ryan's Feet, and he loved it.

Now that's funny Dolphan13 :)

The assumption is the QB in the first two years shows improvment. Ask your experts what they think of a QB going into his fourth year and still not outplaying a rookie udfa. QB's that become really good after their 3 or 4 year normally show signs of it along the way. Henne by all accounts of recent reports has not shown signs of improving. Seems like he is standing still.

Salary Caps As Of Today

Posted by Mike Florio on August 4, 2011, 3:57 PM EDT

We previously obtained the salary cap room (or lack thereof) for each team as of Tuesday. Several of you have asked for something more current.

Your wish is our command.

Here’s the info as of Thursday.

The teams with cap space, a day before all teams must be in compliance, are as follows: Buccaneers ($ 29,560,000); Chiefs ($ 28,431,000); Jaguars ($ 28,000,000); Browns ($ 27,620,000); Bengals ($ 27,164,000); Broncos ($26,542,000); Bills ($ 23,460,000); 49ers ($ 22,570,000); Bears ($ 19,300,000); Seahawks ($ 16,387,000); Cardinals ($ 14,603,000); Redskins ($ 11,450,000); Packers ($ 11,106,000); Jets ($ 8,920,000); Dolphins ($ 8,446,000); Colts ($7,925,000); Titans ($ 7,127,000); Saints ($ 7,027,000); Patriots ($ 5,264,000); Chargers ($ 5,031,000); Eagles ($4,604,000); Ravens ($ 3,558,000); Panthers ($ 1,915,000); Vikings ($ 938,000); Falcons ($811,000); Giants ($623,000); Rams ($621,000).

The teams in the red are: Raiders ($15,246,000); Steelers ($8,597,000); Lions ($7,793,000); Cowboys ($6,671,000); and Texans ($3,358,000).

By tomorrow at 4:00 p.m., there should be no teams in the red.

As you guys can see, the Dolphins still have $8,446,000 of cap room left. Roughly $8.5 million.

nsbnative @5:20

The Falcons were in worse shape than we were, yes they managed to go 3-13 in 07 but when you analyze the state of there franchise with HC Patrino quitting in week 13 and loosing Vick who was the fase of the franchise to go with a p i s s poor D and there situation really seemed as dire if not worse. There GM Dimitroff never wavered and has put together a Contender 4 years in with solid drafts and a good mix of young FA`s

The Steeler and G.B. Teams you mention have excellent scouting departments which rarely miss with there first 3 picks in any draft, loose Joey Porter, no problem replace him with J.Harrison, C.Haggens is leaving plug in a L.Timmons same with L.Woodley ect.. They do this by grading players and taking the best available insead of going with need and replenishing the ranks from within. It`s how they stay competetive while we take chances on risks with injury hisories to boot.

This FO pretty much missed on all accounts, don`t get me wrong I`ll be watching the games and cheering but there is no denying the comedy of errors that have plagued the Fins since Wayne let Wannstadt run the drafts, are we better, you bet but we really couldn`t have been worse either. I do feel for Sparano because you get the feeling Ireland has more time on hs side while Tony really needs to win now and it ain`t very fair either because he has pretty much had to hod the bag on the misses all by himself.

ta db, so have the teams over announced any cuts?

SIGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH. Can I ask a simple question? Actually I just will. WTF is going on? Did the Dolphins not state in the off season that they would upgrade or at the very least sign someone to give Henne serious competition? They're thinking was that Thigpen wasn't good enough to push Henne so they wanted to get better qbs so we would have a real competition. Then they let Thigpen go and went out and got two QBs who are worse? REALLY?

And now Sparano is defending Henne and saying shame on you to the fans who rightly and justifiably expect the team to do what they told us they were going to do? Am I in the twilight zone here?

So basically this is 2010 all over again. Henne has already been given the job folks. There is no and will be no competition AT ALL. Devlin is not going to push him he was undrafted. That means the league thought so little of him that not even the worst teams in the league who needed a qb drafted him. Need I say anything about Moore and his lifelong backup tag?

Whatever, just don't lie to us and get our hopes up please. You publicly went after Orton, that's not a secret. That means you don't have faith in Henne as a starting QB. So are we supposed to ignore that and believe this was the plan all along? I'm telling you right now any chance at even sniffing the playoffs depends on how Henne develops. Teams will be stacking the box to stop the run so good luck to Bush and Thomas, just like last season there will be no lanes for them to run through. UNLESS, Henne starts taking advantage of one on ones and makes good throws DOWN THE FIELD. Not 6 yard outs to Bess! Not checkdowns to Bush in the backfield. Real NFL throws to receivers catching in stride, NOT STOPPING AND WAITING 5 SECONDS ONLY TO PLAY DEFENDER.

Once again, I'm not holding my breath.

IF YOU GUYS THOUGHT IT WAS CRUEL THE FAN CHANTED "WE WANT ORTON". THERE MAY BE A DIFFERENT CHANT TONIGHT:

"WE WANT FAVRE, WE WANT FAVRE......"

IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, BRING YOUR FIGHT GAME. THERE WILL BE AT LEAST A FEW THOUSAND FANS THERE WAITING FOR A PIECE OF YOUR A*SS. OK BRAVE INTERNET BULLIES. LOL....

LOUD........ DID IRELAND STATE THAT... HE WILL MAKE DOLPHINS FASTER AND YOUNGER TEAM ??????

DB........ WHAT DID YOU DO TODAY TO ANNOY ALL THESE PEOPLE ON THE LAST BLOG ?

Well guys, Miami is starting their training, I just finished mine. 515 calories on the elliptical. Time to go home and eat some cake and put those calories right back on!

We can argue about Henne tomorrow (since that's all we do on this blog).

Good evening ladies and gents!

ANY ONE KNOWS HOW OLD FARVE AND HOW OLD DAN MARINO ?

MARINO IS 49 YEARS OLD
FAVRE IS 46 YEARS OLD

ALoco,

Marino's old enough to play god and Favre's old enough to play moses in 10 commandment the sequel.

henne is the worst starting qb in nfl. so hopefully we still are looking any and everywhere

Maybe with competition Henne will get better. I think he is going to get it from Moore.

I BELIVE FAVRE IS A GRAND DAD AND MARINO ALSO A GRAND DAD .

fin4life,

I agree with most of what you said and this is year 4 for Ireland and co. as well. Let's see how the team does this year and we'll have a better comparison with what Atlanta has done.

I'm not saying that Jeff is the best GM in the league but he's doing a decent job and he's definitely not one of the worst......we've had those here already. This is his 1st year without the tuna calling the shots and he may ultimately prove to be be really good one if given a chance.

Here's What Mike Florio's Saying:

Posted by Mike Florio on August 4, 2011, 3:44 PM EDT

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano wouldn’t rule out the possibility of signing Brett Favre.

Privately, the team will.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports, citing an unnamed “highly placed team source” (Fergie?) reports that the Dolphins aren’t interested.

So why didn’t Sparano say so? Salguero says it’s part of the team’s habit of giving the media nothing.

Except, of course, when giving the media nothing creates an unexpected storm of something other than snow and then the team needs to leak its true intentions to the media anonymously.

Wouldn’t life be a lot easier if these ultra-secretive coaches trusted themselves to know the difference between the things they should say without giving up any strategic advantage, and the things they shouldn’t?

DUSTY JUST WAS INTRODUCED INTO (( THE PLUMBER GROUP ))...........

Carl, then please explain to me why Chad Henne has better numbers then Brees, Bradshaw, Namath and multiple other QBs at the same point of their careers?

Few things make a person sound dumber than when they use the expression "It is what it is"...can you say redundant ?

"Hey, looks like Brett Farve is going grey"!

"Yeah, I wonder if the hair in his butt crack is grey too"?

"It is what it is"!

Redundant.

Namath is garbage like ALL jets, past and present. He is the biggest joke in the Hall of Fame.

miami isnt interested in favre, and we all know why. CAUSE HE ISNT INTERESTED IN US

Armando,

Mike Florio's insinuating your "highly placed" unnamed source is Fergie. Who's Fergie?

DB @5:37

Nice post on Cap space that 8.5 Mil should land two more players. The other teams in the red will be worth keeping an eye on to see what big contracts they`ll look to dump to get under, we still need a back up DT and while everyone may hate the idea of another Dallas player Spears will be someone to watch.
