Brett Favre is not coming to the Dolphins.
OK?
Despite Internet rumors fueled by innuedo from journalist twitter accounts, the Dolphins have no intention of signing Brett Favre, a highly placed team source is telling me.
Chad Henne is the team's starting quarterback today. Period.
Move along. Nothing to see here.
Oh, I assume some of you will counter with the fact coach Tony Sparano declined to rule out the possibility today during his press conference. He was asked directly if the Dolphins would be signing Favre, who will be 42 in October.
"I can't rule anything out," Sparano said. "I'm giving you the only answer I can give you."
Look, the Dolphins won't rule out re-signing Dan Marino. They won't rule out trying to trade for the rights to Joe Namath. They have yet to confirm that they will open the regular-season in September. This is, how to put it, a bung-tight organization that believes everything should remain in house.
So coach was simply doing what the Dolphins do: Giving the media nothing.
Behind the curtain, however, the truth is different. I think I can sometimes, in admittedly rare instances, get the truth out of these people. I have been told in no uncertain terms Favre will not be joining the Dolphins.
Meanwhile, back on Earth, the team will have an open practice at 7:15 tonight. I will be there for a live practice blog. Hope to talk to you in the comments section then.

bobbyd if your gonna go off numbers then we have no chance to begin with. if u cant watch henne and understand just how bad he is then u wont get it. meaningless stats arent an argument. the guy locks onto one guy, turns the ball over throwing into crowds. cant move. never throws down the field. no fire, no step up in 4th quarter ever for this clown
Posted by: dusty bottoms | August 04, 2011 at 05:56 PM
Let's go Joe, you started this whole ordeal with your "Theisman is dumb" comment. Enlighten us with your resume and the number of years you have been employed by the NFL. I need to know why so many NFL people are dumb and ur such a genius, besides the fact your a legend in your own mind.

whoever even remotely believed that favre is a possibility is friggin idiot just like omar keely and david hyde and whatever that reatrds name from the palm beach post that thinks moore is going to start
SERIOUSLY PEOPLE USE YOUR FRIGGIN COMMON SENSE!
NO FAVRE IS NOT COMING!
NO REGGIE IS NOT GOING TO GET THE MAJORITY OF THE SNAPS
STOP BELIEVING EVERYTHING YOU HEAR!

Some if not all of that cap space will be used to sign existing players to extensions. I read today that Kendall Langford and the team are negotiating as we speak. I'm sure that Soliai will be next.
Posted by: nsbnative | August 04, 2011 at 05:58 PM
Look folks, football is back and the media needs something to write about. And fantasizing about Favre is sensational enough to stir the hornets nest. Take it for what it is...just an interesting "what-if" topic. No big whup...
But if the media wants to help, I wish they'd apply some pressure on the Bengals to cut Palmer loose. Go to it Armando!

Db. Your talking past history behind an awful o line. Your not willing to give it a few preseason games??

LET ALL OF US ASK ARMANDO , DO YOU STILL THINK WE WILL SIGN ORTON ?

bobbyd
1. Please explain to me how none of the qb's you mentioned ever looked as dismal as Henne in the last of of the season.
2. Please explain to me why Henne got benched twice and those others never.
Stats don't win games, the only stat is the W/L stat. Henne never carries the team on his back to victory, the others did routinely.
Posted by: carl | August 04, 2011 at 06:01 PM
SureSHockPHins,
MAKE SURE YOU GET THAT ANNOUNCED OVER THE P.A. SYSTEM TONIGHT. BECAUSE HENNE'S FIRST INCOMPLETED PASS MAY LEAD TO:
"WE WANT FAVRE, WE WANT FAVRE!" CHANTS FROM THE CROWD. DONT TELL US, GO TO PRACTICE TONIGHT AND LET THOSE GUYS KNOW.
THEN COME BACK HERE AND LET US ALL KNOW HOW WELL THAT WORKED OUT FOR YOU.
Posted by: DyingBreed | August 04, 2011 at 06:01 PM
Dusty Bottoms, I've watched Henne, in fact, I go to every single game. Henne did what he was taught to do by Henning and Sporano. He himself said it in an interview last year, "I'm here to manage the game and not to make mistakes" If that's what you ask of your QB, then checkdowns are what you shall get. Young QBs need to air it out and make mistakes, Henne wasn't allowed to do that. I place the vast majority of the blame on the coaching staff.

DUSTY IS OUR OLD FRIEND bill_c IN DISGUISE!
Posted by: Ah ah! | August 04, 2011 at 06:02 PM
nsbnative @5:52,
I can agree with your thinking there because I thought he handled the draft well but his ability so far workng trades and running FA have left alot to desire, lets hope it`s a matter of still being green to the process and he finds a way to redeem himself some in the coming days. The post by DB regarding team cap space reminds that alot of players are still going to hit the market when teams look to get under the cap.
Posted by: fin4life | August 04, 2011 at 06:03 PM
I know they said a "faster team" Aloco but we're at the point now in the rebuild where you start sprinkling in older vets for leadership so I don't think we will get younger or that it was ever their intention. But QB competition was what we were promised. It won't be what we get. There is only a month before the season and Devlin/Moore weren't with the team during the one day players were allowed to talk to coaches during the lockout. Henne got the playbook and has been studying it for a few months now. He is also taking all or most of the first team snaps. He will be our starter and Ireland flat out lied to us.
Okay fine, you tried to sign someone and it didn't work out, whatever. But now come out and tell us that's what happened instead of acting like every is okay. Come out and say we tried but it didn't work out and we have full faith in Chad now. But they can't, they painted themselves into a corner because if they say that they will have to come up with an excuse as to why their thought process changed. They f'ed up,,,,,PERIOD.
And anyone who remembers my old posts will tell you that I have always stuck up for these guys. I blamed Parcells for most of the mistakes and was hoping that once he was gone Jeff would become his own man. Unfortunately every day that goes by I realize more and more that he is simply a Parcells clone. His draft was good but he SUCKS in free agency and that is where you fill out your roster.

BOBB12,,,,,,,, VERY GOOD POST @ 6;02 PM
Posted by: ALoco | August 04, 2011 at 06:03 PM
ok fair enough bobby. so are u saying the coaching staff should be gone?
Posted by: dusty bottoms | August 04, 2011 at 06:04 PM
itc,
To take a step in the right direction, I just want to see Sparano settle on a starting oline unit(minus Long) tonight and stick with until game one. No more musical oline crap. It killed us last season.
Posted by: DyingBreed | August 04, 2011 at 06:04 PM
Theismann is not dumb, he's only FOS.
Posted by: oscar canosa | August 04, 2011 at 06:04 PM
"Maybe with competition Henne will get better. I think he is going to get it from Moore."
Oscar, without a doubt that was the funniest post of the day. I hope you were being sarcastic because that's how I took it.
Posted by: LouD | August 04, 2011 at 06:05 PM
Sparano thinks he is so smart bye saying we are not ruling anything out.. When in reality he is an idiot!!! One day he sounds of on how he was disgusted with fans booing Henne and the next day he basically punches Henne is the Ballz bye straight up not saying Miami is not looking into Favre!!! If he didn't like the Orton chants then he should have not gone after him and opened that door!!! They could have shopped Orton, in a similar way Philly acquired Ashomouth!!!
Posted by: bgballer40 | August 04, 2011 at 06:06 PM
Im done:(
Sorry Fin Fans but I can't take another lackluster/mediocre season.
This whole CLUELESS regime has got to go. I mean, what other team has NO veteran qb on their roster (so if Henne is inactive, who takes his place. Matt Moore or Pat Devlin)?
Don't get me wrong, I will definitely root for both qbs to succeed.
PLEASE don't even mention Brett Favre:(
Ive been a fan of this team 4 ever and I still care about them BUT...
Early last week, I was so happy that this team finally understood the importance of a competitive QB.
I told my boyfriend, "I can't believe it's gonna be this easy. My Fins NEVER do anything the easy way!"
Kyle Orton might become a Fin. I had vivid visions of him throwing td passes to Brandon, Edmund, Davon, Reggie out of the backfield.
But wait a minute...I knew it.
We sat there and watched every other team that needed a veteran qb snatch'em up with ease. Even though, the Kevin Kolb deal took a few days, it was eventually a done deal.
Look Fin Fans, Im not saying that Orton was gonna be our savior and get us to the Promise Land, but at least he would have made us a competitive, maybe entertaining and finally winning some key games.
Thanks fans for reading my rant, but I can't take another season of watching Henne "maybe" driving us down the field and oops "intercepted". Game over!
Eli Manning & Company here I come. At least, I can watch Ronnie, Mike Vick and Company entertain me and possibly win their games.
Posted by: Jeralyn Brown | August 04, 2011 at 06:06 PM
Has anyone cosidered that Favre would win games, thus losing draft spots, all for one season? If Henne wins games, we lose draft spots, but gain a quarterback. I'll take Henne and a future or a higher pick.
Posted by: first time caller, long time listener | August 04, 2011 at 06:07 PM
Carl, your absolutely kidding me right??? The fans wanted to run Drew Brees out of town on a rail. You can't tell me Drew wasn't awful, he was actually pathetic for his first three years. Again, the majority of NFL people who I have heard talk about the QB position have all said the same thing. It takes 48 starts to make an informed decision on a QB. These people are NFL experts, I'm not. So again, who do I listen to, numerous NFL experts or "some dudes" on a blog??? Pretty simple. I listen to the experts. If Henne doesn't come through this year, then it is time to draft a QB with our #1 pick. In fact, even if he does come through, we should still draft a QB next year. But I'm giving Henne this year
Posted by: bobbyd12 | August 04, 2011 at 06:08 PM
No, Mr., I was serious. I said better and not the best to start. Capicche?
Posted by: oscar canosa | August 04, 2011 at 06:10 PM
DB. I saw most of that juggling due to injury and obviously not enough depth. You are absolutely right, settle on a starting 5 on the ol and build cohesiveness. Doing that should give henne confidence and not hear footsteps and think about progressions. Henne really does not need to improve to much for this team to win.
Posted by: ltcdolphin | August 04, 2011 at 06:10 PM
I hope you're right fin4life.
Posted by: nsbnative | August 04, 2011 at 06:10 PM
and the coaching staff bobby?
Posted by: dusty bottoms | August 04, 2011 at 06:11 PM
DB, Fins have roughly 8.5 and can add another 4 or 5 mil once they renegotiate Solai. They could have around $14 -15 mil. More than enough to sign a QB(too late), TE(too late), S(too late), Guard(probably a reject), or RB (another lower level guy). My question is, what will they do with all that money? Only answer can be is put it in Ross' pocket.
Posted by: jrljr2 | August 04, 2011 at 06:12 PM
Have a good one everyone. Heading over to finsiders.
Posted by: nsbnative | August 04, 2011 at 06:12 PM
Hey bobbyd12 I'm with you man. I have always preached patience with Henne. But this season my opinion has been swayed. When the coaching staff and GM are actively seeking to upgrade over their starting QB that just about says everything we need to know.
If that's not enough of a clue maybe the fact that he has been horribly inconsistent in practice (and continues to check down and throw 6 yard outs to Bess eventhough we have Gates BLOWING by everyone and Brandon Marshall doing his thing) shows us he hasn't changed.
I am all for Henne getting better. I know the stats, I know his place amongst qbs who started slow like Brees etc. But he's not showing improvement, they did. Even if they had the bad numbers they constantly showed a little something more to their game. Or they took the team on their shoulders four times in a season and won games for them. IMO Henne has done none of that. It's getting frustrating waiting for this kid to develop.
Posted by: LouD | August 04, 2011 at 06:12 PM
Notice how all the Henne lovers always point to Drew Brees. 1 exception out of 1000 QB's they hang their hat on. If you like those chances, good luck.
I just want to see what they say mid-season when Henne is still playing exactly like Henne. Will they blame Dabol? New offense? Rookie center? Booing?
Posted by: carl | August 04, 2011 at 06:13 PM
nsbnative @5:58,
Lets hope your right and they look to give Soliai an extension at an avarege of 6 Mil a year because what that woud do is open up more cap space (about 6.4 Mil more) and if they renegotiate Langford they probably give him a bonus this year and pro-rate it over the life of the contract. It works in there favor to make these deals which open up more cap space.
Posted by: fin4life | August 04, 2011 at 06:13 PM
Dusty, Henning is gone, Sporano must win this year or he will join him. I'm certainly not here saying I'm thrilled with what is going on, I'm still perplexed by the TE position, the not looking at Edwards or another receiver, Tiki, or other things that have happened. I want a winning team too and they are to conservative in not chasing talent. This year is the one that counts. We play like last year, bye bye Sporano, staff and Henne. I will be out front calling for their heads. I just not gonna go overboard till I see what we do this year.
Posted by: bobbyd12 | August 04, 2011 at 06:14 PM
ITC, Henne has all the tools. It's his game management and play under duress. I dint think an Oline helps him. Hope you are right.
Posted by: jrljr2 | August 04, 2011 at 06:15 PM
exactly lou, bobby d says he trust the experts. well the so called experts have been trying hard to replce him. but just like ross did in trying to replace sparano they cant find anyone that wants the job. most players know this is the last year of this regime
Posted by: dusty bottoms | August 04, 2011 at 06:15 PM
bobbyd
Why do you only listen to the experts that like Henne and not the experts that don't? The head coach and QB coach of the team are experts too and benched Henne twice in one year. Did Brees get benched twice in one year ever? Or any of the other QB's you mentioned?
Posted by: carl | August 04, 2011 at 06:15 PM
odinseye ever watch Seinfeld? It is what it is is "Serenity now!" for many of us. I use it quite often to calm my self down. Like "We're going to bring competition in at the QB position" and then they go out and sign guys with worse resumes then the ones we had.
Serenity now!!!! Or, Oh well it is what it is. Both work. :)
Posted by: LouD | August 04, 2011 at 06:17 PM
How many practices has Theismann been to? The experts that know Henne better than anybody benched him twice.
Posted by: carl | August 04, 2011 at 06:17 PM
DB, I WOULDNT BE CAUGHT DEAD AT THE PRACTICE LOL
BUT IF WERE TO GO ID PROBABLY PULL SOME STUNT LIKE THAT
PROBABLY WOULDNT HELP MUCH
I GUESS SOME OF THESE FANS ARE MORE EDUCATED THEN OTHERS
BUT REALLY DUDE... IT ALL GOES BACK TO HAVING COMMON SENSE
WHO WOULD ACTUALLY BELIEVE FAVRE WOULD EVEN BE ABLE TO WALK ON THE FIELD
Posted by: SureSHockPHins | August 04, 2011 at 06:17 PM
They might not win it all but the Eagles are going to be a lot of fun to watch. Can you imagine Ronnie handling the WC with VY in some other position? Broder!
Posted by: oscar canosa | August 04, 2011 at 06:17 PM
Even Mr Parcells said he was deeply disappointed in Chad Henne. But..I guess only Joe Theismans opiniom matters in the end.
Posted by: carl | August 04, 2011 at 06:18 PM
You people do realize Sparano doesn't pick the players, correct? Because the majority of you who bash Sparano always bring up people Miami signed/didn't sign or draft. That would be Jeff Ireland, Stephen Ross's boy. Seriously, what coach could win big with Chad checkdown Henne?
Posted by: Jon | August 04, 2011 at 06:18 PM
fair enough bobbyd. solid post. hate sayin it but i think the wheels fall all the way off. i see us 4-12

what did theisman say? was it worse than hoge on tebow, lol
Posted by: dusty bottoms | August 04, 2011 at 06:19 PM
Carl, how many of these QBs do you watch on a regular basis? If ur like me you watch your team, and really don't care about others. I'm sorry, but if you think Bradshaw, Namath, Or any other QB was tearing up the league after two seasons, your wrong. The guys who are 1 in 1000 are the guys who start right out of college and put up big numbers. The VAST MAJORITY of these QBs are like Henne, struggling their first couple years before they come out.
Posted by: bobbyd12 | August 04, 2011 at 06:19 PM
Jrljr2. If you think the fast game in the NFL does not get faster when your getting stuffing beat up, that needs to be in the equation. Check downs mean no hits and are safe. We will see what a new oc brings. A running game opens the pass.
LoudD. And you know those check downs were all henne and not yhe plays they were practicing??
Posted by: ltcdolphin | August 04, 2011 at 06:19 PM
Ok guys, off to watch practice. Let you know what I see through my eyes

I'd like to see Williams go to the Eagles.
It would be poetic justice to see the Eagles win it all with VY, a QB the Fins didn't want and the Fins RBs, Brown and Williams.
Posted by: Swamy | August 04, 2011 at 06:25 PM
Db. Typical thought pattern, but he has been hurt and they tried to trade him no takers. He is not a cowboy.
Posted by: ltcdolphin | August 04, 2011 at 06:27 PM
vy sucks, why hes a backup. williams is most likely done. brown runs the 40 in 6 seconds

Oh boy here we go. Guys and gals we're having a great debate. It's been cordial and informative, even a little fun.
But for the love that is everything holy here comes the name calling and twisted panties. Can we once have a debate in here without someone threatening another or someone calling someone an idiot or any other name? Or the ganging up, "youre right john, look at what this idiot is writing now, what a moron". It's like a high school girls bathroom in here. Very depressing. I'm out, see you guys tomorrow.
