Dolphins announce signing of RB Larry Johnson

The Dolphins have announced on their twitter feed they have signed running back Larry Johnson. So much for those tentative first-and-goal runs.

Johnson, 31 years old, hasn't had a productive season since 2008 when he gained 874 yards. That was also the same year the stuff hit the fan for him. He was suspended by the Chiefs for violating unspecified team rules. He was also suspended by commissioner Roger Goodell for one game that season. Hmmm.

The next year Johnson was critical of Chiefs coach Todd Haley, which as you might guess, led to his suspension for conduct detrimental to the club. The Chiefs cut Johnson when his suspension ended.

Johnson bounced to the Bengals in 2009 in late November and then went to the Redskins in March of 2010 as a free agent. That didn't last. He was cut in September and was out of work the rest of the season.

Johnson has been arrested four times since 2003 on various assault charges against women. In 2003, he was arrested for assault and domestic battery for brandishin a gun at his then-girlfriend, during an argument at his home. The charges were dropped when Johnson agreed to participate in a domestic violence diversion program. In 2005, he was again arrested for assault when a woman accused Johnson of pushing her to the ground, but the case was dropped after the alleged victim failed to appear in court for three different hearing.

His third arrest for assault came on February 24, 2008, after allegedly pushing a woman's head at a nightclub that night. On October 10, 2008, Johnson was arrested for the fourth time and charged with one count of non-aggravated assault for allegedly spitting a drink in a woman's face at a Kansas City nightclub on October 11. Johnson tried to flee the scene but police officers tackled him.

The Dolphins have been in the market for a running back for some time. Today they worked out Clinton Portis. They also worked out Tiki Barber three weeks ago, around the time they worked out Johnson.

They are obviously:

Not comfortable with their current RB situation, which has rookie Daniel Thomas behind Reggie Bush. A couple of weeks ago, coach Tony Sparano admitted in a column I wrote that he was "nervous" about the running back situation.

Miami's running back corps delivered an unspectacular performance around the goal line on four first-and-goal runs against the Panthers, probably pushed the team over the edge.

Is Johnson going to be the guy who gained over 1,700 yards in both 2005 and 2006? No.

But I guess checking him out for the next couple of weeks cannot hurt a team looking to upgrade in the backfield.

Everyone going home at once, Here comes the road rage stories!

Good time for an aftershock with another HAARP blast in the N.E. USA

What did Ricky do to Sparano that was so bad they couldnt resign him? Johnson is capable of dropping trou before the home crowd and exposing himself. Johnson is two bricks shy of a load, et al. I mean "come on Man", this goes into the "what in hell are they thinking" catagory. And u and all other sports media types wants us, the fans, to play nice when they make bone-head moves like this.

Dear Fans,
Make sure you pick up Larry Johnson on your fantasy football teams! I had him in 2006 and he was awesome! We expect him to post similar stats with us this year. Who needs Ronnie and Ricky when you can sign the 2006 Leading Rusher?! Plus Larry has promised not to bad mouth coach Sparano. That should teach Ricky to not mess with us!

hohum, on the East Coast, 6.0 is pretty terrifying. I was used to it because I live near FedEx field in DC, so I'm used to hearing Albert Haynesworth rumble by and shake my block. Otherwise, I would've been sh*ttin' in my boxer briefs.

More HAARP triggered earthquake news:

The FBI evacuated its buildings in Washington and New York, though they were returning to the 40-story New York facility by 3 p.m. At the Pentagon, police announced that anyone inside could "shelter in place" while security and emergency personnel checked the building for damage. But shortly thereafter, Pentagon workers were allowed to return to their offices.

"The entire office just started swaying," said CNN's Chris Lawrence. "As you stood up, you could literally feel that the entire Pentagon was moving underneath you." He said it lasted 10-12 seconds.

A number of other buildings were evacuated, as far away as North Carolina and New York, witnesses reported.

Landmark buildings in Washington suffered damage.

At Washington's National Cathedral, spokesman Richard Weinberg said three five- to eight-foot pinnacles had broken from the central tower. He said stone masons and engineers would assess the damage, which also included other pieces that broke and fell on the surrounding lawn.

The building was evacuated and closed to the public.

Wayne Clough, the secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, said the national museum's landmark castle on the Mall had cracks in interior walls. There was no immediate indication of structural damage, but the 150-year-old building will need closer examination, he said.

"You want to do an inspection to be sure about that," Clough said.

Clough, who's also an earthquake engineer, said the geography of the Eastern Seaboard helped transmit the shock from the Carolinas to New England. The underlying bedrock is largely a solid sheet, "So you get a lot more travel out of earthquake waves than you would in California," he said.

Officials for Louisa County Emergency Management said minor injuries were reported.

Two nuclear reactors were taken off-line automatically. Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesman David McIntyre said the agency was monitoring the situation. He said it was not clear whether either plant had been damaged.

Dominion's North Anna plant in central Virginia's Louisa County lost offsite power and was using backup generators to keep spent fuel cool, the NRC said. Nine other plants in four states have also declared an unusual event, but have not shut down, it added.

The North Anna nuclear power plant, which is the plant located closest to the epicenter of Tuesday's earthquake in Virginia, is shut down and in a safe condition, a company official and the Louisa County public information office reported. There has been no release of nuclear material, at least that is what we were told to report."

This small ELF wave HAARP triggered earthquake is only a very small test of the capabilities of this WDM.
Stay tuned for the Symphony Of Destruction.

Here's what happened: A run oriented team decided to roll the dice with Thomas (they hoped) as a bruising RB and Bush to augment as a part time RB and slot.

So now, they see they fu&ked with Thomas and the panic begins.

Please get rid of this bunch

Joe/Poizen, now, the roads are all jam-packed like after 9-11. I can't leave work even if I wanted to (I live about 1 hr away).

All I got is this blog, y'all are my lifeline to the World.

If I'm goin' down, I'm goin' with my people, aqua and orange all day!!! LOL.

Having read this, I REALLY feel sorry for you! LOL Hang in there, you'll get home soon enough!

6.0 LOL We get that every tuesday afternoon.Get a grip people., Or should I say Sheepole.

Home -- please tell me what this all has to do with 'National Security Study Memorandum 200'.

I'm frightened -- please Home -- teach us!

FP4FG -- Maybe the quake is only a 6.0 because the batteries in Home's EarthQuake Gun were running low.

FP, are you on the West Coast? We'll see if you're still talking so tough in the next decade when you guys get the big one and become the largest island in the World. I hope you know how to swim bro.

Really? They signed a guy who couldn't outrun/break tackles from some donut eating out of shape Kansas City cops but they think he can outrun/break tackles from NFL defenders????

I guess Cecil Collins and/or Lawrence Phillips weren't available?

i was just bein nosey & reading all your little post things, (booooring) but i was getting into the whole earthquake post & i turned & the news was on talking about it. it was very werid & i just thought i would post that. "Odin" gets mad when i hack him buuuuut its so tempting. i have no idea where he went....hmmm. well later old men who do nothing but B**** about football. SOFTBALL is where its at! :)

- take a guess? :) hahaha.

So, we brought in a 2-time Pro Bowl veteran bruiser running back to help give the rookie some pointers and maybe add depth to the roster. And, got rid of a scat back who never regained his speed after his surgery. C'mon guys! It's no big deal! LJ may never see the field in regular season. And, if he does, maybe he can show just a little bit of what he once was. It's all good. Due diligence and all that stuff. Hopefully, he can add something and contribute in some way (as a back-up to the back-up).

Ahh Cecil Collins / Lawrence Phillips. A reminder that boneheaded personnel decisions long predated the current regime.

Dave Wannstedt makes Jeff Ireland look like Bill Polian.

All u guys hollering about we should have signed Ricky back, should all be aware that this organization wasn't going to let him be the all time leading rusher

this deserves a big WTF?!?!?!

DC Earthquake was an Inside Job.

LOL @ Gary, I was in the 89 Earthguake During the World series in San Fran,I was in the shower at the time started to "Shake rattle and row",Back then it was OK to own a Pot-Bellied pig as a pet, Well to make a long story short,So I came stumbling out of the shower and the pig was squilling, my roommate came stumpling out of his room(He worked late nites)Nude and the only thing I could think of at the time was I hope I dont Die here coming outta the shower with another Naked man and a pig...A True story.

Yeah DC, I do Know how to swim, But I Think a lot of Brothers dont, So I fear for them.lol

Tmi fp4

It appears as if most Fin Fans do not get it. The FO and Sparano said at the start of training camp that they were happy with all the RBs, TEs, WRs, and QBs in camp. Not just a few but the whole damn lot. Now they seem to be singing a different tune. I want to know why that is. Why LJ and not a younger LenDale White or maybe a Kevin Jones. I would like to no why they did not upgrade the TE position when Z. Miller was available. These guys have no clue.

1st and goal situations on friday night should have gotten to Polite. The FO shouldnt have freaked out about this.

Signing Larry Johnson is stupid, when you had Ricky and Ronnie available.

It appears LJ will do great at cracking heads of the opponents....as long as they are wearing panties and high heels.

Boneheaded would be blaming Wannstedt, who wasn't even the GM.

Will Larry be bring his"Wife Beater" T-Shirts with him,. and if so do they have a "Nike" logo on them.

Wow..you said a mouthful there! Wannstache was a nightmare I wish I could forget.

When you think of it like that- Lil' Jeffy is not so bad...

Wannstache did have control of personnel decisions for most of his tenure here. Speiman had control for 1 year, but Wannstache hired Speilman anyway.

No matter how you cut it Wannstache made a royal mess of this franchise!

Larry Johnson for NFL Man of the Year!!

So, now our running game includes a Johnson and a Bush....guess we are screwed.

DC, glad to hear you are ok, my friend!

Take your time going home and be safe. We got the tail end of it up here so that tells you how far it went

Wannstedt - Head coach
Speilman - GM

Don't believe me, just look it up

This isn't about Daniel Thomas not performing as much as it is the lack of performance from Kory Sheets. He hasn't been the same since his injury. If Larry Johnson is serious about football he will be great again, but if not..bye bye to your last chance pal.

RUN RUN RUN and Oh Yeah RUN ! 3-11 sounds about right.

Wannstedt made a mess of 2 organizations. It took Chicago a while to pick up the pieces too.

Waaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Most of you in here are whiney f***ing little school girls. LMAO, I've never seen a group of men cry, bit*h, and moan as much as when I read some of these posts. You would think they just signed Larry Johnson to a multi-year expensive contract. But no that's not the case at all. He will perform or he will be cut so I'm not seeing what the problem is here.

Ronnie wanted too much money from the Dolphins so to all of the people saying "he signed for 1 million in Philly" shut up because you're a bunch of mindless twits. He signed and is now a back up. His agent wanted a MULTI YEAR CONTRACT from the Dolphins and the asking price was more than a million per year.

Ricky bad mouthed the head coach to everyone and anyone who would listen. If you knew anything about football or sports in general you would realize that doing that is wrong. It creates an uneasy atmosphere in the locker room and divides players. Some of the players (his friends) would have been on his side and the rest on the coaches side. That's what you want for your team, a divided locker room?

Seriously stop with all of the whining. Armando isn't here to start a revolt against the Dolphins yet some of you seem to be card carrying members of the "lets hate the Dolphins" fan club. Get a clue

Ummm Mr. 'Fed Up' perhaps this is a Miami Dolphins Fan's Blog -- perhaps you should learn a thing or two about the Miami Dolphins.

Up until 2004 (when Wayne Hunizenga stripped him of his GM authority) Wannstedt has complete and total control over all Miami Dolphins personnel decisions.

Happy to educate you. Thanks for stopping by.

Remember guys: That 1-15 season came out of nowhere. We were 9-7 the previous year and then went 1-15. You hear that, LouD? Poizen? Finfan4life?

Been there, done that.

Yeah, and a lot of Super Bowl runs came out of nowhere so what's your point? Dude give it a rest. If you can explain how a 7-9 team who returned most of it's players while upgrading the defense and special teams is going to do worse this year I'm all ears. 8-8, 9-7, that's my prediction.

Dolphins players reporting that Larry Johnson is in great shape. Practiced today.

To all those that went thru the shifting of plates on the east coast., Glad your all safe, but if you really want to ride a wave come out to Calf.,You'll get one a 5.2 once a month ., Thats why I have Velcro on a lot of my things.GO FINS

Will my LJ jersey be over by the Dolphins jersey's or will it be in the section with 'Home of the Jets' shirts?

I was going to educate you about Wannstache, but Gary Stevens beat me to it.

Any Dolphin fan knows what a mess Wannstache created here.

You stand corrected.

Dave Wannstadt was cancer, And like cancer, It sometimes comes back.

Here's some education for you:

Wannstedt as Coach/GM:

11-5, 11-5, 9-7, 10-6

You lumps would KILL for those winning records again!

What Sparano doesn't understand in that little New Jersey mind of his is that you can't be the uber run the ball control play defense team he wants to be with his talent. Not in this division with New England and the Jets, you would have to have the Eagles DB's and safeties. This is the AFC East not the NFC Central, and someone tell Tony that it's 2011 not the 50's.

Portis went to U of Miami....Hello....Duh....
WHY do we do what we do??????????

Armando again embellishes the truth!!!!!!!!!!

Dolphins not looking for an upgrade in the starting backfield. They're looking to upgrade the entire rb unit as a whole.

Have you guys really watched Cory Sheets lately? For a supposedly speed guy he looked awful slow getting out of the backfield. He was going to be cut anyway. So why not sign Johnson now to help upgrade the rb unit as a whole.

Plus, Johnson's a load and can help out running out of power formation goal line situations. Will he stick? That's debateable. It all depends on who else becomes available over the waiver wire once final cuts are done.

Here's some education for you:

Wannstedt as Coach/GM:

11-5, 11-5, 9-7, 10-6

You lumps would KILL for those winning records again!

Fed Up.... Come on man, Dont forget he was 1 and 9 before they "86ed" him, Complete the story please.

LJ is better than shiits, stop crying already my god.

Its un upgrade. Like how Mike Bibby was to Arroyo..not a HUGE upgrade but it definetly was an upgrade.

should be interesting. I don't know why you guys think we should have resigned ricky and ronnie instead. LJ comes with little to no risk. He is more of a punishing back that has the ability to pound it in from the 10. Something our current Backfield lacks and something that Ricky and Ronnie proved over the years they don't have the ability to do. This is good depth to add. Good sign FO

Home, good to have you back dude>:)

Dont know why Armando thinks Thomas needs upgrading. Bush is the starting feature back(13-18 runs and 5-7 passes per game).

Thomas coming in to keep Reggie a little fresher and also serve as the clock grinding protect the 4th qtr lead rb.

How many times does Sparano has to say Bush will be the feature back until Armando comprehends?

The only reason Wannstache had those records you mentioned was he inherited a loaded team from Jimmy Johnson. As soon as he took over from Jimmy, he proceeded to run the team into the ground.

We are just beginning to recover from the cumulative effect of his ridiculous draft picks. WOW...so blind you can't see?

Mike Bibby=LJ, Arroyo=Sheets

Its an upgrade no matter how much u guys dont want it to be.

News Flash:

Brett Favre talks Larry Czonka out of retirement. Both will begin practice with Dolphins tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Lou, there was a reason why Ricky 'bad mouthed' Sparano. Sparano's an idiot...that's why.

My first thought @ Larry Johnson was "WTF?"

But after reading about his practice today, I think it might be a smart move, and not a really big deal either way.

If he's in shape he may be an asset. If a better option comes available, he'll be gone.

News Flash:

Larry Johnson isnt an upgrade. Cory Sheets is just flat out awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
