Brandon Marshall illness raises football questions also

I was just surfing the web and, going on a football site, I was reading the headlines:

Jets reach deal with Plaxico

Jets re-sign Cromartie

Bengals bring back Benson

Seahawks, Tatupu part ways

Dolphins WR admits personality disorder

Jaguars Lewis ending holdout

Which one do you see is a little out of place? I'll give you one guess.

Look, I have compassion for Brandon Marshall. I feel sympathy for him as he battles the demons of Borderline Personality Disorder. The man's life has, by his own admission, been hell the past year. He hasn't been a happy camper in the least despite being so blessed with natural gifts and worldly luxuries -- cars, big home, lots of cash, great athletic ability, wife, family.

The story of Marshall seeking help for his condition is one of courage. No doubt.

But there is a football angle that must be discussed also. And from a purely football standpoint, and the Miami Dolphins, after all, are a football team not a mental health clinic, the Marshall story has to make you cringe.

Basically, the Dolphins greatest offensive weapon from last season, and the man they are counting on to be their best offensive offensive player again this season, is admitting he is suffering from a mental illness. And while Marshall has been aggressive in seeking treatment for the disorder and believes he has it under control, he adds, "by no means am I healed or fixed."

That is scary, particularly for a team that has no second act if Marshall suffers a relapse. What happens if Marshall goes from Beast mode to Boderline Beast mode, in which he loses control again?

We will hurt with him and for him because you never want a fellow human to be so buffeted by such troubles. But Dolphins fans will also be hurting for their team because, geez, this is a guy the offense is counting on to be on the field and be 100 percent engaged for 16 games. And you should worry because the team currently has no complementary weapon to put on the field if something happens to Marshall.

Troubling.

Scary.

On a personal level.

And on a football level.

ODF,

AT LEAST MARSHALL ADMITS HE'S ALMOST CRAZY. HELL, IM ALMOST CRAZY TOO. AFTER ADMITTING I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER!

NEXT QUESTION......

Here's something that is completely baffling. Why is it that when other teams draft or sign rookie wide receivers everyone expects them to contribute and even take over starting roles at some point within the next couple of years but when Miami has young receivers the media ignores their existence?

"And you should worry because the team currently has no complementary weapon to put on the field if something happens to Marshall." Salguero

Did Roberto Wallace and Marlon Moore and Edmond Gates get cut already? I mean I understand they haven't proven themselves yet but isn't there a glimmer of hope that these three will actually do what the team drafted them to do and catch footballs at a high level or does the media believe they will never get better and were just signed to fill out the roster?

Lol DB

LouD,

Give it up, Armando's a little past "almost crazy. He's waving the pom-poms at the bristling seashores.

You People in this Blog have the great Luck of having a Psychiatrist/Psychotherapist among you. Now I will beguin teaching Psychology 101 to Simon Says, big 160, etc, etc.

bigt160, Thank Goodness not everyone thinks like you...Not many people would make it...That's very narrow minded...Whatever...Everyone has a right to their opinion...

LouD I hear you now back to football, Are those guys in camp or is the Herald refusing to report on these guys?

Gee thanks Oscar I think you call that Job security lol!

In all serious, I think we are all nutz, plain and simple. Trying to determine who is crazier than who when everyone is already crazy is a bit complicated.

suck for luck in 2012.come on aloco,u'r driving the bus.lol

SOME HERE THINK IM MAKING TASTELESS JOKES. iM NOT. IM JUST SHOWING HOW INCREDIBLY "BOGUS" IT IS TO BE DIAGNOSED AS BEING "ALMOST CRAZY".

GUYS WE'RE TALKING 90% OF OUR ENTIRE SOCIETY THAT COULD QUALIFY FOR THIS DIAGNOSIS. HOW FREAKING AMBIGUOUS IS THAT. MARSHALL'S SHRINK SOUNDS LIKE HE'S A MONEY GRABBING WITCH DOCTOR. LOL...

HEY EVERYBODY, LETS ALL ALMOST GO TO JAIL TODAY! LOL...

THE WORD OUT OF CAMP IS......... MATT MOORE IS (( MR STIFF )) ,THAT WHAT THEY CALL HIM .

AS FOR BRADSHAW , WILL BE GONE IN 10 DAYS .

Dying @ 11:17

My sentiments exactly. BPD is about as ambiguous as I've got the rainy day blues.

DB............ MOVE ON ,PLEASE....... WE HAD ENOUGH OF CRAZY .....PLEASE .

SHAME ON THE ENTIRE NATIONAL PRESS FOR BREAKING A STORY ABOUT A GUY "ALMOST" BEING CRAZY". GEESH, WHAT THIS WORLD COMING TOO. aRE WE ALL "ALMOST CRAZY"? LOL...

SIMON@ 11:21 AM. EXACTLY!!!

bigt160 please explain......"football player that makes millions playing a boys game."

If football is a boys game in your mind please outline some MENS games for us. Which games are boys games and which games are mens games ? Very confusing post.

DB....... PLEASE...MOVE ON AND DON'T USE THAT WORD (( LOL )) AFTER EVERY POST .LET THE BLOGGERS LAUGH NOT YOU .

Hey these guys are still looking into O LInemen , who needs a TE we have ANTHONY FAAAASANOOOOOO !
By the year 2015 we will have this O Line set , then we can take another 5 yrs figuring out who to cut among the 28 players we hve signed to play the D Line !
Baby steps folks
Followed by baby vomit

I seem never to run out of Patients, lol.

If you take a hyper active kid to the shrink these days, they will diagnose him with ADD.

All kids are hyper active. It's like diagnosing a dog with barking syndrome.

LouD what I meant is a FUN game sorry if it was over your head.

Dolfans looking for pro bowlers at every position. Further proof we're nearly all almost crazy!

Bigt that's another confusing post! :) I hope they're in camp, they're on the roster. And yes Gates has already opened eyes by blowing past DBs. Moore and Wallace were getting better as the year went on and made some nice plays, have good speed. At some point these guys will contribute more to this team. I just don't understand why they have been written off by everyone.

Oscar because the world tells them when they get mad they are crazy.

IN OLD DAYS DOCTOR USE TO BE AN ANGEL ...TOADY HE'S LIKE A LOAN SHARK .

People convicted of murder now will be using BPD as a defense. Thanks Brandon.

In all seriousness. Brandon's speech should have been one minute - Hey, I fly off the handle too often, I realize its wrong, I need to control myself, I'm working on it. Thanks, bye.

LOL Simon says @11:26

ABSOLUTELY, SIMON. DOG WITH BARKING SYNDROME, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! LOL...

Hey what's up fellas?

Ok as if it weren't already clear before Marshall acknowledged it that something is right with someone who has so many Domestic violence episodes has a problem. Miami knew he has issues before he was traded for. Maybe they didn't know exactly what it was but it was clear there was a problem with him mentally.

Furthermore I agree 100 percent that again Miami's moron crew of Ireland and Sparano are in denial that they have enough talent to compete for a playoff spot. Adding Reggie Bush and Matt Moore is a disgrace for an offense that is so slow and average in talent. The rookies can help but they are rookies. Is Sparano dumb enough to believe his contract extension meant he would stick around if doesn't make the playoffs? C'mon!

Oh wait they brought in some washed up Giants castoffs to fix the O-line problems once again. So John Jerry is already another wasted pick? The problem is Miami has just enough talent and players to win in spite of their CRAP coaching and Front office and will finish out of the top 10 draft picks and not draft a franchise QB!

LouD I was referring to the Herald not reporting on them again sorry it was over your head.

Everything is over my head when people don't say what they purple. By the way, purple = mean.

MATT MOORE THE STIFF ............

GLAD SOME HERE ARE BEGINNING TOO SEE JUST HOW TRULY CRAZY AN ALMOST CRAZY DIAGNOSIS REALLY IS. THIS SHRINK NEEDS TO HAVE HIS HEAD EXAMINED!

Miami's offseason of promises are once again the reason visiting teams own Miami's home games year after year. No one wants to come see Henne check down to Polite and Bush for 5 yards on 3rd and 10.

Ireland's first year behind the controls has been a failure already. That's right a failure and a game hasn't even been played yet. At some point TALENT has to be taken into consideration and Miami's talent is a freaking joke compared to Jets and Pats.

Would some of you like my professional assistance? Free, courtesy of Armando. Pay attention to your Family's advice. Go, Go.

The personality disorder that he claims to have, is nothing more than a series of quirks due to life experiences that a psychologist puts a label on to make it sound like a disease. It's not.

Psychology is notorious for not actually being real "science". Calling it a soft science is a euphemism for NOT science. Everyone that has tough life experiences is going to have issues to deal with, and I don't blame Marshall for that...my issue is that when a psychologist ascribes someone's behavior to being some sort of inescapable disease that he was genetically predisposed to have...it is permission to completely avert responsibility for your actions. He's a sentient being....take time to figure out why you do destructive things and don't blame a made up disorder that has no real scientific basis.

/the field of psychology needs to be disavowed by science. It's a disgrace.

bigt you make no sense whatsoever. It's just insulting to me to have someone insinuate that the sport I've been involved in almost my entire life,(one that has afforded me a very respectable living and has allowed me to take care of my family) is a "boys game". If you had said fun game there would've been no problem from me.

Have we signed Zach Miller yet?

Jason @ 11:35am.

Absolutely! Theyve taken the witch doctors out of thier "GRASS SKIRTS" and hav given them suit/ties and airconditioned offices. Plus a license to steal your money. Be very aware!

Let's talk football again, a lot more interesting...Enough with the psychologists wanna be's...

LouD lot's of players have called it that it's a form of expression which planet did you play football on dude?

Miami's answers to the upgrades that were needed after last year:

QB - Chad Henne who was benched 2 times last season - Matt Moore who wasn't good enough to start for the worst team in the league last season.

OC - Bring in Brian Daboll who was actually worse statistically scoring then Dan Henning.

Speed - draft a WR in round 4 and bring in Bush, ahhhh I feel the need has been answered(sarcasm).

O-line - draft Pouncey (good move) but realize John Jerry isn't worthy to take first team reps. Musical chairs continues.

Free Safety - keep Chris Clemons and fail to make a single addition to the weakest link on D.

TE - Fasano and Mastrud or whatever other street free agent, what a joke.

Channing Crowder - mission accomplished! At least they did one good thing.

Jason @ 11:35am

Hit the nail on the head. To not see that is to be in major denial.

According to Omar Kelly, the Dolphins will sign another QB in a couple of weeks...But not a big name like everyone wants...Maybe a Bulger or a trade for Kitna...

I know armando has given good reasons why we won't be signing another workhorse rb BUT if we have the cap space and we are a RUN FIRST team and we have non-franchsie calibre qb's WHY aren't we still trying to sign bradshaw - he hasn't signed with the giants yet

thomas, bradshaw, bush looks like a run first team

(kiick, zonka, morris anyone)

I discredit the 'science' of psychology so much that I think after lunch today I am going to award myself a PhD in Psychology.

Mando,

Stick to football! You're not qualified to give anything (other than your opinion) on anyone's mental health!

BTW, we've already had a superstar on the team who came out and admitted that they had a mental problem...can you say Rickey Williams? How did that turn out once he started getting treatment? In fact, he's the one who recommended B. Marsh seek help!

Now, why don't you tell us about Training Camp, or talk about potential FA's coming to Miami?

And, stop playing Dr. Phil!!!

wolf

They spoke to Bradshaw, he was asking way too much for them, don't know the actual figure. Apparently Braylon Edwards is seeking way too much and if Rex couldn't deal with him, nobody can.

AndyNJ, excellent 11:41AM post...Why aren't we going after Zach Miller or Kevin Boss is a mystery...Fasano, Mastrud, Shuler, Epps...What a joke...And John Jerry...Wtf?

SEEMS ARMANDO'S FINDING HIS BLOG AUDIENCE IS A LITTLE MORE INTELLIGENT THAN HE FIRST THOUGHT! LOL...

DB........ LOL

Forget the diagnosis for a minute, and listen to what he said. He has to learn to control his outbursts (TRUE) and he is working on it (NECESSARY). No psychiatrist needed for that. That's just common sense. His lack of control creates problems for him and he needs to learn to control his emotions.

It's not that complicated. At least he's recognized it before throwing his life away. Good for him. And good for us as Dolphin fans.

We should seriously consider signing James Jones.

I agree on the Zach Miller thing Fasano has been mediocre at best we need someone that's going to catch the dang ball and Zach definitely will.

Thomas (Czonka), Bradshaw (Kiick), Bush (Morris). WOW- I like it- now that's a scary combination at RB.

Clyde Gates (Warfield)?

Guys, don't forget 1 thing. Ross tried to dump Sparano publicly without him being fired yet.

Potential FA's took notice. I said it then & I'll say it now. NO big name players want to come to Miami. Until this regime is gone, that's the way it will be. Look, according to reports, the biggest block to getting Orton was Orton's unwillingness to redo his contract. He doesn't want to come here. Who could blame him? The people who want him will likely be gone next year, where will that leave him?

Like I said, we have a decent base that has been built. We need finishing touches. These guys have shown an inability or unwillingness to equip this team with playmakers. Deal with it for 1 more year. This nightmare will be over soon.

They think it's the 80's ginats that you can win by smashmouth & suffocating defense. They are SO out of tune with today's NFL.

Mandos on fire today!!! Just posted a very negative article about our popgun offense from last season and saying we should be going after Braylon Edwards with no mention of possible blossoming young receivers already on the team. Then there is this post about Marshall. Then look at the tweets! He's coming up with one liners to make fun of the team. I'm telling you the man is on fire! One thing we can always count on is Armandos Dolphins hate year in and year out. He says if they won it would change but even the entire season they played with Pennington and made the playoffs he was tearing them down at every opportunity. I'm starting to think Armando was planted in Miami by a New England newspaper.

Dief, 2 problems with James Jones.

A. He isn't a former Cowboy
B. I believe he already resigned with the Packers.
