Tony Sparano on 2011 season: 'I got all confidence in world and you should, too!'

The NFL season is still a dozen days away but I'm ready for it. Fact is, most anyone who listened to coach Tony Sparano deliver the keynote speech today during the club's 2011 Kickoff Luncheon is ready for it after hearing promises of excitement and daring-do, and winning.

In other words, this was just what the doctor ordered for fans hungry for some good news peppered with a little bravado.

"This 2011 team is going to be exciting," Sparano said. "They're going to have a great attitude ... It is going to have excitment. We have an outstanding defense. We have good players. We have an enthusiastic, outstanding, attacking offense. Our special teams is attacking. This is all on the upbeat right now. Everybody in the building in full of passion. Full of passion right now. Excited. The other thing we have is daring people."

Cool. On the chow line of things I want to chew on, give me some enthusiastic, outstanding, attacking offense every time. Also, give me victories.

And Sparano promised those, too.

"Here's what I'm here to tell you," he began. "I've seen a lot of football teams and been part of more than my share -- unfortunately. But I'll say this to you, a lot of them have been good teams. I've been around teams before, seen what they're made up of and this football team right here, is a good team. There are good people in that locker room. We got good people in the room, good chemistry, they give off a good vibe, they enjoy being around each other. I'm walking through the locker room last night at 8 o'clock at night. We broke at about 5 o'clock and there are still guys hanging out with each other. That's a good sign. That tells me an awful lot.

"I'm going to say this to you and I know that I'm in public and I'm don't say a whole lot, I'm one of those take everything, give nothing kind of guys. This team will win. That's not a surprise to them. They've heard it."

Other highlights from the speech?

"This team is going to build its own tradition."

"This journey won't go without problems. It won't go without those things. But this group is a pretty daring group. A daring group, and they'll push forward."

Sparano called his team a "heck of a group." And, said, that group "will take the next step."

"I have all the confidence in the world," he said, "and you should, too!"

That speech has to be a world record for using the word 'Okaaay'.

So, um, why didn't Henne dare to make that TD pass you highlighted?

Yeah They'll win alright., 4 or 5 games, This guy sounds like he was hanging out with Oder and the other Hillbillies dtinking all night and sleeping all day.

Tony senses nobody outside the organization believes in them. I wonder why? Jeff Ireland looked like the least enthused person in the room sitting there behind him.

I'd have liked the speech a whole lot more if I saw Henne dare to throw that TD pass without delay. It's that split second he thinks too much that spoils many of his throws.

Keep Drinking The Kool Aid....Morono....2012 You Henne, Ireland...Adios..Good Bye Do Not Let The Door Hit You On The Way Out...Take most of your Dallas Cowboys Retreads With You....

I think Steve Ross attached that speech to Tony's contract extension. Now we just have to hope that it's true...

Get ready to eat some crow b*tches im so tired of all these haters go find another team to bring down and to all the real fans lets get ready to shock the world.

I'm just happy he didn't use the word "standpoint".

No problem, I feel ya man.

You know the funny thing for me about the people bashing Henne is there insistance that those trying to gauge his progress are somehow "THE HENNE FAITHFUL" who see nothing but blue skies with his HOF career when it`s anything but!! I am neither dilluded nor that blind to believe we have anything but a Q.B. who can keep us in it if he can learn to minimize his mistakes, nothing more nothing less. I will however point out one thing to the short sighted.

In the 2001 Season when Drew Bledsoe was hurt on a Monday night game vs. the Jets Tom Brady was anything but spectacular. It blows my mind that nobody remembers just how mediocre he really was as a 2nd year player. Everybody points to the Pats winning the SB and Brady being the 2nd coming or something but it was anything but. His # were pedestrian they ran the same type of "We don`t need you to win just not loose" mentality that we run in Miami. They get in the playoffs as a Wild Card and in a slug fest in the snow with the Raiders the famous tuck rule gives them the most contraversial win since the immaculate reception. Brady dinged doesn`t even start the AFC Championship game vs. Pitt. Bledsoe did guiding them to the win that sends them to the SB.

Belichik kills speculation about his SB starter by sticking with Brady ending the Bledsoe era but if memory serves it was Ty Law with a pick 6 and the D thet puts them up early vs. the greatest show on turf and keeps them in it with an agressive physical play from the DB`s which eventually led to a changing of the rules, for God sakes they win that game 20-17 vs. an Offense that avereged well over 30 points all Season. Do you know what the Pats did for an encore in 2002, Brady`s 1st year as the starter?? They missed the payoffs!! He threw for yards and boat loads of picks as well. They actually started the 2003 Season 0-2 getting pummeled by Bledsoe and the Bills 38-7 before holding a team meeting and ripping off 2 straight titles but for those keeping count it was Brady`s 3rd as a starter, this being Henne`s 3rd who conversely didn`t have Charlie Weiss tutoring him but Dan Henning and David Lee.

If you move foward to 2008 Brady goes down week 1 in K.C. and Matt Cassell steps in and after a shakey start goes on a terror run to end the Season holding an identcal 11-5 record to Miami but loose out on the tie braker and don`t make the post season. I bet alot of teams were glad cause by Dec. 2008 Cassell looked like?? well Brady!! The NFL is a fickle business and you really need to be at the right place at the right time because this long rant is about telling everybody reading this that without N.E. Brady ain`t Brady, plain and simple!! If he is running what we had for an Offense these last 2 years he tanks and probably is every bit the headcase Henne might be behind closed doors today.

I don`t want to read a post about me saying Henne is Brady cause I`m not!! Brady ran with his situation and Henne has yet to but the right system can make or break careers and Brady was blessed because with all due respect to his Holiness he`s no Marino, Favre, Elway or Manning, yeah I went there!! Peyton Manning anybody really think Brady can carry a franchise the way Peyton has, please!!! In 2007 with his shot at perfection bringing one of the best ensamble record breaking offenses of all time he caves under a relentess Giants pass rush looking anything but great in the process of having Tuck, Kiwanuka and Strahan pummel his keaster!!!

We have weapons on this team we havnt had in years wake up and smell the coffe people i think the last three drafts have been as good as any in years especialy this years and to all pastie fans and the pasties them selves were coming for you and that soft a** front 7 on both sides of the ball.

1. What weapons are you talking about? The only proven weapon is Marshall. Bess? Good for a short gain. The rest of the receivers haven't done anything, at least not yet. The running game? Bush will be taking screens. The actual running backs are big slow plodders. Henne still has to show he can play well for a full real game.

2. All punctuation marks are free, including periods. Learn to use them, otherwise you look like a 6th grader writing like an idiot, and probably are.

1975,

I agree with earlier post. I don't know how Ireland did it, but we have a lot of good talent on this team. Moreso now than in years. Put down a solid base, kept upgrading and now were adding playmakers!

Other than the o-line, I say we can contend for the playoffs.

I know a lot depends on Henne, but I believe his improvement will continue to shine in Dabolls offense. HenningS is and always was a quarterback killer.

I think we're one starting calibre offensive lineman away from contention.

Attacking a coach for being upbeat and putting the expectation of success on his team?

Some of you guys are seriously beyond pathetic. I mean that.

I'm not even a Sparano fan but this is what a coach is SUPPOSED to do. Cheerleading and cajoling his squad...not being Debbie Downer (which a lot of you are professionals at).

ѪɎѪɎѪ, get a clue dude. There you go with the negativity thing. Hartline ain't chopped liver, but like you said: not yet. So I'll assume you like the Dolphins and you want to see them do well. I mean, who would go to the trouble of going to a team's blog if they didn't like it? Just because they haven't proven anything yet doesn't preclude them from doing it. Jeez, give them a chance, and a break. Its your team, support 'em why not.

Agree JRS, all the Dolphin bashers are pathetic.... but these are the same guys who will be kissing A** when the team does well.... wearing the jerseys, the hats, the flags on the car windows and all the other stuff..... the same morons we saw jump the Miami Heat bandwagon.... and they have the team and the town they deserve A MEDIOCRE CITY, SPORTS AND EVEN WORSE THE FANS!!! if you can even call them that....!

Man you all must get some good weed in Miami.. Because what ever Tony is smoken to think and say what he does must be some good S#@t ! ! ! Because what i see and hear is not quit the same thing he does. we have one of the worst off lines. Poor recievers and a okie dokie Def. Not busting on my team that i have followed since day one.. But Damm isnt this getting old for like 30 yrs. we won our last superbowl when?? ASo for him to say the things he does is just crazy.. How about we fire the Coach and general manager Hire Mr.Cower and let him come in make th echanges we need and less then 3 yrs we will be in the Superbowl..Oh crap i own the team i guess i could do that..Someone get Bill Cower on the phone..HAHAHAHA

There's just two of them. They work in shifts.

One is wily and very clever.

The other, basically stoopid.

The both try to hard and expose themselves wth ignorance.

Its your team, support 'em why not.

Posted by: JaxDolphin | August 31, 2011 at 06:27 PM

Supporting your team does not mean you should not take an objective view of what you are supporting.

Ah Ho, Oders Man lover Fin4 Life has arrived, Got to leave, Cant stand the next 4 hours of the gross Man love these two have for each other.

Objective is good, but you and your ilk are strictly negative. Have you tried being positive, you know, like for a change or something? Give them a chance to play a game before you denigrate them.

Oders Girlfriend Fin4Life has arrived.

Posted by: JaxDolphin | August 31, 2011 at 06:36 PM

Just what is my ilk? Maybe you are just a tad too sensitive to any point of view that isn't blindly gushing with praise. I try to have realistic expectations, not like many fans of all teams around the league that every August just blindly believe there team is SB bound.

Well what else is someone fighting for their job supposed to say? Fantastic Tony. Enough talk though. Time to make something happen. I'll remain on the fence until I actually see something materialize on the field when it matters.

LOL!!! I wonder how many used cars Tony sold Mando also.

Mando...COME ON MAN!

What is Tony suppose to say? "2011 is going to be a krappy season and you shouldn't even bother wasting your time reporting on us".

You're smarter than this Mando. What is this brainwashing nonsense you been trying to feed us lately? You've stopped being a critical thinker and became a Henne homer OVERNIGHT.

Ѫ etc., whatever I'm tired of defending Miami to its own supposed fans. You're right, we suck. Feel better now?

On a lighter note, the Dolphins will finish 11-5, win the AFC East and beyond. How much further depends on if we can get on a roll to finish the season. That and our Number 1 defense.

There is a reason LV, ESPN, SI, and PFT don't see much upside to the Fins this year. You have to prove yourself before anyone will take you seriously.

Let the fins play well through the first 3 or 4 games and you will see the objective views turn more positive. Nobody is going to do jumping jacks over preseason performances and over a decade with no playoff win.

Ѫ, come back after the season, I'll be here, and we'll see who was right, I guess.

ѪɎѪɎѪ IS TRYING TO GASIN ACEPTANCE WITH THE GANG OF DEFEAT,BUT SHPOULD GO ATE A TURKEY SANDWICH.

Tony's statement is full of violations of the Universal Intellectual Standards. And he also uses logical fallacies.

How the heck does he know the season will be exciting?

On the one hand he claims everything is clicking like an atomic clock. On the other hand he says,"This journey won't go without problems. It won't go without those things."

That's an obvious contradiction. Its like a lawyer telling a death row defendant he will go free but I can't guarantee it.

Man you all must get some good weed in Miami.. Because what ever Tony is smoken to think and say what he does must be some good S#@t ! ! !

-Ha ha HA. you so funny. I'd love to burn one with Tony. I'll bet his communication skills would improve. For all of his faults, he'a stand up guy and a straight shooter.

Because what i see and hear is not quit the same thing he does. we have one of the worst off lines. Poor recievers and a okie dokie Def.

-I have to give you the o-line. Maybe not the worst, but one of the worst(at the moment).

By Poor recievers you mean Marshall and Bess, two guys that broke Marino, Duper and Claytons records with Henne throwing to them in a Dan Hennings offense. One has 1000 yards receiving in 4 of 5 seasons and the other is statistically the best 3rd down receiver in the game today.

YEP, we can all tell you know what you're talking about-DUH!

If thats not enough, what you call Okie Dokie, the NFL calls Top Ten. Get out of here with the dumb stuff, PLEASE!

Not busting on my team that i have followed since day one..

-Considering the above, that'skind of hard to believe. So far your bordelining on being as bad as the dreaded troll status.

But Damm isnt this getting old for like 30 yrs. we won our last superbowl when?? ASo for him to say the things he does is just crazy..

-So you'd prefer he just comes out and tells th fans and te team: Hey everybody, we suck, we're just going to mail it in? The crazy thing here is your reasoning and logic. Sounds like you've never played a down of organized football. But that'sjust MY opinion.

How about we fire the Coach and general manager Hire Mr.Cower and let him come in make th echanges we need and less then 3 yrs we will be in the Superbowl..Oh crap i own the team i guess i could do that..Someone get Bill Cower on the phone..HAHAHAHA

-The season starts in two weeks and you're blabbering away Cower and firing te Coach? Excellent strategy there. If you're realy as ignorant as you sound, I don't feel you should have the right to make any comments WHATSOEVER! But AGAIN, that's just MY opinion.

Good Day!

You know I just don`t get it?? I can handle the verbal jabs and give as good as I get but why always the need to turn it into some sort of prison thing??? I have never even addressed this moron but he feels the need to address me with another homophobic rant, no pal the only love I give goes to my lady and if you even go there then be MAN enough to back it up past your P U S S Y computer screen.

What are you clowns gonna do after we slam girly boy Brady and the patsies all over the field, huh? Boo?

Probably.

The funny thing is we have FIRED the Coach and brought in legends like Jimmy Johnson, Nck Saban and Bill Parcells. Anybody watch Cowher on CBS, sheesh!!

Sorry Fin, Did'nt mean to blow your cover.

loved the finsiders today. some clown texted jesse agler that last year was the most embarrasing season as a dolphins fan going 7-9 and he was embarrased by the way the fins lost on national television. jesse and kim bokamper called the guy an idiot and kim said a comment like that is just stupid. they both said that 7-9 isn't necessarily a great season but what about the 1-15 season. the guy started his text in response to kim saying you're not a real dolphins fan if you're out there trashing the team and players like henne. the guys post started by saying, "screw you, i am a real dolphins fan." kim let him have it as only kim can.

Good point fin,

Cowher only won one Super Bowl after like thirteen seasons, plus he had some pretty good talent. So, he ain't the answer. Who knows? Sparano might get Coach of the Year when we make the playoffs.

My bad, fourteen. LOL

Talking BIG after 1 Home Win...ya OK...GO Fins...

LETS SEE THE FINS DO ON MONDAY NIGHTE,I THINK HENE THROWES FOR 400 YARDS AND 4 TDS, THEN HE'LL ASK FOR A 50% RASE, MAKING HIS YEARLY SALERY 688 DOLLARS.

-Actually, the only thing crazy here is your reasoning and logic. I guess you'd prefer Tony comes out and tell all the fans and players, hey were terrible, we know it, we're just going to mail it in this year. I'm pretty convinced you've never played a down of organized football in your life.

Judging from your writing I think your to ignorant to have the right to post here, but AGAIN, that's just MY opinion.

Talk about loco comments, what up AL?

You need Tim Tebow.
