The NFL season is still a dozen days away but I'm ready for it. Fact is, most anyone who listened to coach Tony Sparano deliver the keynote speech today during the club's 2011 Kickoff Luncheon is ready for it after hearing promises of excitement and daring-do, and winning.
In other words, this was just what the doctor ordered for fans hungry for some good news peppered with a little bravado.
"This 2011 team is going to be exciting," Sparano said. "They're going to have a great attitude ... It is going to have excitment. We have an outstanding defense. We have good players. We have an enthusiastic, outstanding, attacking offense. Our special teams is attacking. This is all on the upbeat right now. Everybody in the building in full of passion. Full of passion right now. Excited. The other thing we have is daring people."
Cool. On the chow line of things I want to chew on, give me some enthusiastic, outstanding, attacking offense every time. Also, give me victories.
And Sparano promised those, too.
"Here's what I'm here to tell you," he began. "I've seen a lot of football teams and been part of more than my share -- unfortunately. But I'll say this to you, a lot of them have been good teams. I've been around teams before, seen what they're made up of and this football team right here, is a good team. There are good people in that locker room. We got good people in the room, good chemistry, they give off a good vibe, they enjoy being around each other. I'm walking through the locker room last night at 8 o'clock at night. We broke at about 5 o'clock and there are still guys hanging out with each other. That's a good sign. That tells me an awful lot.
"I'm going to say this to you and I know that I'm in public and I'm don't say a whole lot, I'm one of those take everything, give nothing kind of guys. This team will win. That's not a surprise to them. They've heard it."
Other highlights from the speech?
"This team is going to build its own tradition."
"This journey won't go without problems. It won't go without those things. But this group is a pretty daring group. A daring group, and they'll push forward."
Sparano called his team a "heck of a group." And, said, that group "will take the next step."
"I have all the confidence in the world," he said, "and you should, too!"

So the Coach goes out and shows passion, faith, bravado about his team and most of you sit behind your computers and bash him?
Miami Dolphin fans: The worst fans in professional Sports.

Yeah, but Da Boll knows how Belichoke thinks. He'll have a wrinkle or two to confound him and his porous defense. I seem to recall a certain 38-13 victory where Sparano introduced a little thing called the 'wildcat' that completely bumfuzzled Belichoke and the patsies. It could happen again with a different twist. Look for a flea-flicker to Gates and maybe a Bush reverse or something along those lines. Don't wanna give away too much of the game plan. Mostly we're gonna unleash Wake and what he's learned from JT about terrorizing Brady. He always has his number squarely in his sights. Asked about his role with the Dolphins, Wake responded: "I maim!"

fin4,
No problem, didn't mean anything toward you. I don't think I've ever had a problem with a 'blue user' before. Certainly meant no disrespect to you.

Very amateurish, bad speaking and full of annoyances. Full of wishful thinking. As you know, wishful thinking does not cook the rice. Doesn't sound like he even believes what he is saying, just going through the motions. Sounds way below NFL level. Amusing watching Spuds Ireland in the background also.

cam wake with the finsiders, explaining how he has met players from other teams due to his success and playing in the pro bowl, talks to those guys on the opposing team before the game, "on the field i'm the same way having fun and shaking hands but once the whistle blows i don't care who you are or what's going on in your life, i'm here to kill you".
i think he's going to rip brady's helmet off with his head still in it. then maybe he'll
$h!t in his neck.

OK, now that all the "fans" are done bashing SpOrano, I have a suggestion for a new topic.
Mountain Dew vs. Moon Mist?
I was a severe Dew Addict for many a year. However, due to an economic calamity(pun intended), I was forced to partake of the cheap stuff.
I'm not ashamed to say, after familiarizing myself with the Mist, in time I came to actually prefer it.
WHAT? Oh yeah, sports, RIGHT!
Ok then..........how about Berger vs. Carey?
Berger did get a lot of valuable playing time facing the monstrous NT's in the AFC East last year. He's played inside his entire career. I think he transitions to guard a lot more smoothly than Carey. At this point in their careers, I'm also certain Berger is the more athletic of the two.
Carey on the other hand looks like he spent a lot of time NOT working out with John Jerry at Burger King and McDonalds!
Thoughts...........?

odin,
Haven't tried the Mist yet, but think you might be on to something with the Berger move. Certainly an improvement over either Carey or Columbo.

Hey I'm a real dolphin fan and I have been for years. I played football and I know it well. We are a very good squad this year. Get off Chad's back he will do fine. It takes time to develop a qb. Brady took time, Breez took time, hell Warner was a backup... twice! It's the system most of the time, give the man a break. And if memory serves Tony did get us to the playoffs with less talent and a qb with a water pistol for an arm. Be loyal fans not fair weather fans. We supported the team before let's continue to do so.

all i can say concerning guys like carey and jerry is that this team is trying to get better and if they want to come in overweight and out of shape and not take their jobs seriously than maybe they'll be working at burger king or mcdonald's with mcquistan.

Um... Brady came in and went straight to the superbowl... With a team that was going nowhere till he stepped in. And didnt anyone ever teach Sparano not to be smokin crack unless he has enough for the class??

Started to drink it for awhile. I used it for a touch(a tiny, TINY touch) of flavor when drinking 1800 Tequila. Most places wouldn't stock it so I gave it up.
Posted by: odinseye | August 31, 2011 at 09:51 PM
Ok, the last time I looked ALL the teams were 0-0! So, of course, there's hope in every team. Invariably, at this time of year, every team seems perfectly capable of going to the play-offs. That's a given. And, every year some teams that were picked to do well, don't. And, some teams seem to come from out of nowhere to be contenders. This COULD be Miami's year. If you don't at least feel that way, then maybe you should re-think the reasons why you call yourself a fan of this team. Or, find another team.
The coach said exactly what he supposed to say to fire up the team and the fanbase. A lot of games may be blacked out because of ticket sales. Did you expect him to come out and say "We're gonna suck this year?" C'mon man! But, he may have actually gotten it right this time. I believe they're going to do a lot better than some of the pundits (Mike and Mike come to mind) think!
This team IS improving. It is better in areas than it was last year. Let's hope that translates to the field and the Win column!
GO FINS!!!

Blue user is somebody who registers their account, thereby precluding the possibility of punks masquerading as them.

Brady was a sixth round draft choice who sat for years behind Bledsoe. Cassel proved its the system, not that Brady is great. The patsies haven't won a Super Bowl in eight years, haven't won a playoff game in four years, their window has closed and Wake is going to lock it.

JaxDolphin | August 31, 2011 at 09:58 PM
All kidding aside Shaun O`Hara if you check on NFL. NET FA checker you`ll notice he is looking for 3.5 Million in base salary, he won`t get that and will be a player who joins a team Mid-Season.

Thx for the info fin4, I guess he can afford to wait, 'cause some team will definitely need him before too long. Makes me wish we would pony up for him now.
Posted by: JaxDolphin | August 31, 2011 at 10:20 PM
Baltimore will probably start McKinnie at Left tackle and Mark LeVoir(former pat) at right.
Oher gets a lot of the blame for not only giving up sacks at left tackle last year, but costing them games. Oher will be kept to provide depth, but his starting days are TEMPORARILY over.
He played guard his fist year at ole miss and then moved to right tackle. His senior year he played on the left.
Baltimore used a first rounder on him and obviously hoped he would be able to handle the left side in the NFL.
I think we should package a player and a pick(low rounder)and stick him in at his natural right tackle spot.

dusty, Yeah we DO have a QB, his name is Henne, show some respect, that boy is taking us to the promised land this year.
odin, great idea. Maybe we can trade Ireland for you. We need good thinking in the front office. I'd take Oher in a second at RG.

This team was good last year I don't give dam what people say.. 7-9 is not a great record but we did beat the two superbowl teams.. I know on paper we lost to pitt but , Pitt knows who really won that game.. We lost on a really bad call .. They need to fix the calls on instant replay..

Bucs fans ran Steve Young out of town and look what he did when he got time to blossom and learn. Chad has stats that mirror Drew Breez's first 3 years. I just know we gotta support our guys. Detroit had sucked for 30 years and they're fans stay loyal as with New Orleans and Atlanta. Our team needs us! We really haven't had it that bad and we won't. We are fans of the only perfect team in history of pro sports, the greatest team ever. Let's push our guys to the top. Bring back the terrible towels, I mean we started it. LET'S BELIEVE IN OUR PHINS AGAIN!
