Tony Sparano on 2011 season: 'I got all confidence in world and you should, too!'

The NFL season is still a dozen days away but I'm ready for it. Fact is, most anyone who listened to coach Tony Sparano deliver the keynote speech today during the club's 2011 Kickoff Luncheon is ready for it after hearing promises of excitement and daring-do, and winning.

In other words, this was just what the doctor ordered for fans hungry for some good news peppered with a little bravado.

"This 2011 team is going to be exciting," Sparano said. "They're going to have a great attitude ... It is going to have excitment. We have an outstanding defense. We have good players. We have an enthusiastic, outstanding, attacking offense. Our special teams is attacking. This is all on the upbeat right now. Everybody in the building in full of passion. Full of passion right now. Excited. The other thing we have is daring people."

Cool. On the chow line of things I want to chew on, give me some enthusiastic, outstanding, attacking offense every time. Also, give me victories.

And Sparano promised those, too.

"Here's what I'm here to tell you," he began. "I've seen a lot of football teams and been part of more than my share -- unfortunately. But I'll say this to you, a lot of them have been good teams. I've been around teams before, seen what they're made up of and this football team right here, is a good team. There are good people in that locker room. We got good people in the room, good chemistry, they give off a good vibe, they enjoy being around each other. I'm walking through the locker room last night at 8 o'clock at night. We broke at about 5 o'clock and there are still guys hanging out with each other. That's a good sign. That tells me an awful lot.

"I'm going to say this to you and I know that I'm in public and I'm don't say a whole lot, I'm one of those take everything, give nothing kind of guys. This team will win. That's not a surprise to them. They've heard it."

Other highlights from the speech?

"This team is going to build its own tradition."

"This journey won't go without problems. It won't go without those things. But this group is a pretty daring group. A daring group, and they'll push forward."

Sparano called his team a "heck of a group." And, said, that group "will take the next step."

"I have all the confidence in the world," he said, "and you should, too!"

In any case, Wolf, TS is extra motivated this year. If he wins and wants to stay, great. If he wins and wants to leave, he would have showcased his talent and certainly won't lack any work elsewhere as a HC.

i just asked darren mcgavin if he thought ray feinga should start on the offensive line and this was his response:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aNVN-911Tc

Though caso said he's out, I'll still post this because it's important for everyone else too.

This blog has devolved in the past year. There have always been haters on here, children playing games with fake names and the like, we all have seen and read it. Not sure how long caso's been on here, but I've been posting here for a few years (3 or 4 I think).

It's starting to get very hateful on here. We should be able to disagree without being disagreeable. You should be able to make a point, or criticize what someone wrote WITHOUT criticizing the person, their motives, their knowledge, etc.

If you don't agree with someone, just tell them why. If you have valid points, then they should be able to take it like an adult (I know I do). Craig M, Poizen, kris, NH, fin4life, wolf, bobbyd12, Mark in Toronto, LouD, DD, DB, dm, and I'm missing a whole bunch, but I've gotten criticism from pretty much all these posters, and I don't go off on them. But that's because they disagree without being disagreeable. They don't mis-characterize my opinion because it's easier to shoot down than my actual opinion which might be more intricate.

What happens when you be-little someone for their opinion, they get defensive. Then they get upset, and come back negatively to you. Then the whole conversation turns into an argument. And who wants to come post here just to get in a fight? This is supposed to be entertainment. It's supposed to be like a hobby, an outlet from work or life or whatever. It's counter-productive.

So, I ask all posters, don't be like our politicians today. Whether you're an (R) or a (D) or and (I) or none of the above, we should all agree our politics is broke because no one wants to listen to each other and work together. Here, we should be able to discuss and debate and still understand we're all (well, most of us) on the same side, that's being a fan of the Miami Dolphins. We have different thoughts about how to make our team better or how things should be, but in the end we all want the team to be great.

So don't castigate anyone. Don't hate just because you don't agree with someone's opinion. State your own opinion and let others discuss and see where everyone is afterwards. Sometimes people will come around to your side. Sometimes you might go to their side.

I come here because I get a lot of good info from you fans. And different points-of-view I might not have thought of myself. I don't come here to be told I know nothing about football, or I'm just a dumb fan willing to cheer for any product on the field, or I'm a Henne lover or Henne hater or in the gang of defeat or ANY of that stupidity.

I ask other responsible, adult posters to back me on this. We need to take back the blog. The trolls are starting to run it, and I'm seeing a lot of posters I respected not come here as much, and that's too bad. Too bad for me and too bad for this community. Let's not let the bad guys win. Let's fight back and stand our ground.

Is it just me or could yo guys hear the Star Spangled Banner playing in the background of DC's last post?

Well I am still pondering the post after that one.

odin, i heard the phins fight song.lol. dc, it's just a blog dude, skip over the nonsense.

lol odin, I was gonna type in red, white and blue, but I thought that would be too much.

2watt, I try, I really do. But sometimes it gets too ridiculous. People come at you, during THESE tough times, and you snap. All that negativity gets to you after awhile.

But I was serious that the blog has been taken over by the inmates. Mando doesn't care because he just wants hits. So I guess it's up to us to police ourselves.

dc @1205
i support your post but regret to say that i think some people come just to start fights coz they get kicks out of it,

i try to ignore the blatantly antagonistic stuff, the reason why i come here is because i'm addicted to the fins and literally starving for them to have success, u and many others post IN DEPTH thoughts on the fins generally much more knowledgeable than i am, some of the humour is very funny, 50% of what armando writes is pretty decent and i'm grateful to him for running this blog, he's very good at posting "wind-up the bloggers" posts

lastly I like diversity, if everyone was the same, thought the same and acted the same the world would be a boring place, so i accept that there are roaches and nasties in the real natural world and trolls and fighters in the blog world!!

dc, the worst thing I see now that wasn't as much in years before is that some trolls use other peoples names and post under it. Its a pretty scummy thing to do. Herald should do something like avatars.

You have to take all Blogs with a grain of salt, DC. All Blog owners know their regular Posters and their buttons. They might write a post that incenses some, then another post for the serious students of the Game, and joking for all who like it. Their aim is to create the greatest # of hits for, after all, now Blogging is a business.

Just win baby!!!

DC,

In all seriousness 2 watt had some good advice.

Me myself, I'm an exception to the rule(retarded-lol).

I come on here just like I go into a club on the Eastside of Detroit.

I treat you like you treat me. Plain and Simple!

On another note:

Can you imagine being a young guy and your Grandpa buys you an old beater car that hasn't won a race in 10 years?

As he's handing you the keys he says "Listen up Sonny, no drinking and driving, you can't play the stereo, and do not pick up any chicks........Oh yeah and one more thing, don't take her out of first gear."

-Grandpa Hennings-

DC,

I was reading some of your earlier posts regarding the HC position and agree with you and the Wolf about 9-7 or better being enough to keep Sparano safe. I have abused TS on here for some of his bone headed moves in the past but he seems to be a totally different person this year so far. I remind some on here that even the great Bill Belichik was fired as Cleveland Browns HC in the early 90`s after taking over that team from Shottenheimer who had them perennially in the playoffs. People thought Bob Kraft was crazy when he hired him in N.E. because he was supposedly a DC not a HC, the short sighted forget this.

It`s also worth noting in my opinion that the real sleaze ball here is the brown nosing Ireland who is responsible for the talent on the field. When Sparano gives an interview and says he likes the effort from the TE`s just isn`t feeling there on field performance, what`s he really saying?? It sounds to me like he`s indirectly telling us all that Ireland has given him CRAP to work with also his comments about the OL after the Bucs game I thought spoke volumes.

Understand friend that on this blog when you make a statement that doesn`t go with popular thinking (sheep) your rediculed. The masses who always seem to rip you never offer any aternatives or points of view just seem to revel in taking your views appart, don`t pay to much attention because there are others myself included that enjoy the posts!!

Agreed Boulder, that's very annoying. Especially when the faker starts a fight, and you think you're talking to the real person, and then they get on and says they didn't say that, and then you don't know who you were talking to.

The blue name doesn't work, that can be faked too. So I don't know what the solution is. I try to remember people's general attitude and writing style and personal things they say. Usually a leopard won't change it's spots.

But I was serious that the blog has been taken over by the inmates. Mando doesn't care because he just wants hits. So I guess it's up to us to police ourselves.

SWEET! I wanna be on the VICE Squad!!!!

My strategy on the many different Blogs where I have ever posted, DC, is I let them manipulate me. In the End, I will take their culi-o.

Thanks for lightening up the mood odin.

oscar, too much salt gives you high-blood pressure (joke).

f4life, that was my only point initially. We won't know until the end of the season who's at fault. If we're 7-9, even if it's not Sparano's fault, it'll be hard for me to back him. That's 3 years and no change. And I agree, the GM has serious responsibility here. But we know how the Coach carousel works in the NFL. Either you win or you're gone.

But just getting a new Coach isn't going to fix everything (like getting a franchise QB would). A new Coach usually brings a new system and it takes time to learn that. We just got a new system on offense. It'll take a while for the team to digest it and perfect it. So if we're 9-7, and were in most games that we played, I can see how it might be better to keep Sparano and the continuity rather than go in another direction. Sounds like you agree too.

The verbal "fist pumps" are already starting. Going to be a long year.

DC and Fin4,

SpOrano and co. Came in and set the bar high for themselves right of the bat. At least that's the case in mind of the average fan.

When we went from 1-15 to 11-5 expectations SKYROCKETED! The average fan easily overlooks all the problems(QB, receivers, Hennings)warts and all. They see a CONTENDER. Forgetting all about the wild cards and the best turnover ratio in a zillion years.

If we would've started the rebuilding process with a 5-11 season, we're not even having this conversation.

It's all a matter of perception. If you don't believe me, check with some Lions Fans!

Red on the Noodle like a dik on a Poodle!!!!

I love MY Phins so much the season always goes to quick! A LONG YEAR? YEEEEEEEEEEEAH BABY!

FIST PUMP!!!!

The O-Line is going to be Shuffle-licious tonight.

One more week!! I'm ready for football!

DC Dolfan | September 01, 2011 at 12:56 PM

My problem with going the route of a new HC is that as well, if he can learn and start takng the next evolutionary steps then I would be inclined to let him stay, although if it`s 7-9 again it will be almost impossible to not look to make a move. That said, I have a comment for you and the others, didn`t watching Cowher on CBS`s pre-game show last season give you the impression that he`s a bit of a tool?? I know he has alot of passion but so did JJ.

If we were going to switch HC`s then please do it at Seasons end and not before because if you`ve noticed all Interim HC`s either get the job the following Season or walk. I like Nolan alot but he seemed overwhelmed in his time as the HC in S.F. I would let Sparano ride it out and at Seasons end make Nolan the highest paid DC in the NFL while bumping his title to Assistant HC. I would then bring in John Gruden to be the HC and run the Offense, something he does with the best of them. He was also one of the best Q.B. Coaches in the NFL. People might not know this but he was Farve`s Q.B. Coach at the beginning of both there career`s. This is the set up that Dallas had for years and it worked until W.Phillips lost his locker room.

If we would've started the rebuilding process with a 5-11 season, we're not even having this conversation.

That is a great point and very true!!

I just love when poster try to play GM.

All jokes aside, I'm losing my freaking mind about the O-line.

I've been scouring other teams rosters. Reading old draft reports and wiki=ing the h ell out of myself. Fantasizing about trade scenarios, the WHOLE SHE-Bang. I'm not even getting paid and I'm doing my due diligence.

Tony has to know these guys won't get it done. Hopefully he's just paying lip service and deep down he disgusted with Ireland-AGAIN!

The worst part about it, the best thing I can come up with at this point is maybe having a spider bite Colombo and hope he turns into Peter Parker.

PS: I like Spiderman!!!!

...Or kill him.

I just love when poster try to play GM.

OK, all BS aside! You just made my day!

ROTFLMAO-I had to wipe the tears out of my eyes!

DC Dolfan....outstanding post @ 12:05....should easily be considered for post of the year.....

Its true what you wrote...this place kinda suks now.....Its not any particular bloggers fault....it has more to do with the HERALD'S lack of respect for US....the poster's......

They allow our names to be duplicated....anyone can post under anyone's name.....this blog is so full of imposters that you never really know who...or what your talking to.....

A few weeks ago I actually had my account HACKED...not impostered...but HACKED....it had to be a HERALD EMPLOYEE....

I called the Armando's boss to complain....and while he had a "sympathetic ear"....I could tell he didn't really have any intentions of rectifying the situation.....Its ALL about the blog hits.....and I had been giving them plenty....

So now I give them less....If I was so addicted to the Dolphins...I woudn't give them any.....

The only reason I stop in at all is to get some insight and possible knowledge from the few real people on here....those that talk football....

DC
DB (even tho I am dead to him)...lol
Craig M
Mark in Toronto
Rob in OC
Fin4life
Daryl Dunphy
Simon Says
0x80 (but he's not here any more)...
Boulder
Wolf
Joe Schmoe
DM1
Odin
And many more I am sure......

This blog is a mess because the Herald allows it to be so....and in my opinion....it is a slap in the face to all of us Dophin Faithful...

Anybody know any good blogs....

There is allot of my fellow Dolphin fans on this blog that are just chearleaders. They don't look at personel of a team or what experts say. There the same fans that when Eddie Jones told Marino to come to Dolphin headquarters to void his contract and please retire they say "I don't care I still love the Dolphins even though they just told Marino to get lost".

I will bash sparano he should not be hear. He lost 7 games at home last year. What organization would of kept him and a QB who has not done anything behind center for 3 years now.

kris, I noticed you don't come here as much. It's too bad. You were one of the good ones.

Maybe if we all took a day off, and told Mando we were doing it to protest how bad it's gotten, he'd do something about the nonsense. I doubt it, but it's hard to just sit there and take it in the arse, without doing anything.

Anyway, glad to see you here. Maybe winning will change everything. People will stop with the negativity and stuff.

But that hacking incident is serious. That's very disappointing to hear (sorry it happened to you).

When Coach Sparano said he walked into the locker room, it was 8:00pm, and he stated that practice had ended at 5:00pm, and there were some players hanging around in the locker room, I hope it was the offense line, these guys need to be together 24-7, Practicing! You Have to go with what you have at this point, Sparano is not going to make any changes to the O-line now. I beleive this could come back and haunt Sparano, if Colombo plays poorly, and if Carey plays poorly, it could be a long season. Go Dolphins # Connecticut Dol-Fan.

This blog is a mess because the Herald allows it to be so....and in my opinion....it is a slap in the face to all of us Dophin Faithful...

Kris,

Your 100% right!! I have started spendng more and more time here http://www.finsnation.com/ it`s a cool site and the people there are some HARDCORE fans but they only blog on Friday afternoon and during games, still to you and every other person you mentioned in your post, if you like we can meet up there on Friday afternoon, one good thing about that site as well is that it ain`t censored so the thin skinned beware!

P.S. Mando really pissed me off two nights ago when he removed one of my posts were I was basically defending myself from some A-Hole who`s been ripping me and odin yet left thet tool`s posts up which are a pretty disgusting read!!

BTW....The Sporono speach was neither good nor bad.....

It certainly wasn't inspiring on any level....it was just...a speach.....

Not sure what the big fuss is about....

football talk....

Miss me yet?

Why the sour mood today? Come on guys, the season is about to start and our qbs actually looks promising, go figure!

As far as this blog goes, I loved it at the start and it actually became quite addictive to the point where I spent so much time on it that it cost me money and cut short some of my consulting engagements. I know, mental illness. But I still find it the best place to network with some fans that are as mentally ill as I am. Sure there is some background noise but I just filter it out.

The guys listed above are my boys, I look forward to reading your stuff all the time. Don't leave or I might actually have to spend my days working :(

Alrighhhht Miami!!!

from someone who has been banned from the ss some 40 x's,lol. this format is better + armandos camp recaps are 10 x's better than the ss's. they have the same bs over there too btw.

DC, I go to the SS to read Omar's tweets. He gets ripped a lot but like you said, he works hard and when he posts, his opinion is always backed up, right or wrong.

CLEO, HOW CAN I MISS YOU? You've been stinking it up in my home city here in the CFL for the last few years just like you did to my favourite sports franchise in Miami !! Go away already!!!

Hey, who spared you guys from 0-16? Never Forget! Ungrateful motha-f.....

2 watt, I've heard that, that's why I don't post over there.

Mark, lol on the sacrificing work to post. I find myself missing deadlines too. My boss knows the site by look, so when he comes around and sees me typing he just shakes his head (he's a Redskins fan, so he understands how it is).

Cleo, I only miss you when I see how well Jake Long is doing. I'd LOVE to have the 1st pick in the Draft in 2012. I just don't want to go through another 1-15 season to get it.

Does anyone know what the plans are for the starters tonight?

dc why not, whats the difference between that and a 7-9 year. both means we sucked so lets suck real bad so we get a huge start on our new regime and qb in 2012

starters? are they even dressing

dusty, I lost YEARS from that season. You guys might not know what I'm talking about, but I have an unhealthy fanaticism with this team. Whether they win or lose determines how happy I am each week during the Season. My boss always brings up that year ('07) and says he was scared of me because he thought I was going to go postal. I was quiet, very defensive, got in a lot of arguments with people giving me a hard time at work. It wasn't good. I was in a depressed mood all season long.

And my heart broke. More than any other season. It got so bad I couldn't even enjoy Xmas in Saint Martin. Imagine that. I'm on an island, beautiful beaches, drinking rum, and then the game would come on, and I'd go into hibernation. My wife didn't want to be around me, my friends couldn't stand me.

That's why I'm trying to be more realistic now. Yes, I want the team to do well, but I can't invest that much emotion (hope) into them anymore. Takes too much out of me.

Anyway, you're right, 7-9 ain't that much better. But at least it's not worst in the league. Not sure where you live, but anywhere outside of South Florida, it's tough to be a Dolphins fan. You don't get any love anywhere.

Ok Tony.... one more chance! I will renew my sunday NFL ticket on directv.
Let see what happens!

Hey, if the guys on the list above organized a strike, that might carry a little weight. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.....................

I don't want to sound like an NFLPA rep, but I'd have one demand right up front.

1. Ban the Blog Hit Troll. There's not much room for negoitations on this one. I don't mind him being here per se, as HIMSELF! But I have two sub sections on my demand.

A. No hacking and/or Impostor-ing.

B. Clean it up just a bit. Funny is good, while sick is..........just SICK!

Anywhoo, I nominate DC Dolfan to play Duh-Maurice Smith vs. Armando's Roger Goodell!

Let the STRIKE BEGIN!!!!!

(actually, I'd rather wait until tomorrow-LOL-FIST PUMP!)

DC Dolfan | September 01, 2011 at 02:52 PM

I happen to be the same way and share your pain Bro!! I`ll tell you how unhealthy my fanatical status is, do you remember in 84 Marino`s record breaking year that we were sitting at 11-0 and had a game vs. Fouts and the Chargers which we lost in overtime ending our bid to repeat as undefeated??

I was in Jr. High then and the next day some kid was talking about what a big fan of Fouts he was and I knocked his block off!! I took a 3 day suspension for that one and my old man said he didn`t want me watching the games anymore. You might imagine after we lost the Super Bowl that year nobody talked to me much, so yeah I get were your coming from!

odin,

Thinking out loud for a second isn`t it a bit curious that ever since we took Seminole Sam apart all ths BS at night directed at us started???

You let a win or a lost determine how happy or sad you are. Wow I feel bad for your family

I hear you guys. My gf won't even dare text me let alone come within 10 miles of me on game days. My friends hate watching fins games with me. I am a man on an island when we play. Sheer ecstasy when they win, pure black when they lose. I honestly think I take of harder than most players.

DC,

I feel your pain. 07 was bad. I go through all the same things. My PitBull Mastiff even knows when MY PHINS lose! Seriously, people hide from me.

Oddly enough 07 was the most laid back and relaxing year I've ever had. Actually the first 4 weeks were murder. By halftime of game 5 I shot my TV with a 9mm. Seriously, I was going to use a 12 gauge, but I didn't want to repair that much damage. It's not as bad as it sounds because actually I've always wanted to shoot a TV(not sure why, but whatever).

Anyway, from that point on, I relaxed and took the good with the bad.

PS: You should have seen my girlfriend at the time FREAK OUT! You would've thought I shot the President or something-LOL!

And this is coming from a season ticket holder here I am

f4life, tragic (but sounds very familiar).

Yeah, still getting over that Fouts game. You know what though, I kinda liked Fouts myself (loved the Chargers style of play. John Jefferson, James Lofton, those were the days). But, I get you. Couldn't ever see him the same after that game.

odin, DeMaurice, LOL! Don't make me the point guy of having to give in the Commissioner Armando. Then people will really be hating on me, making them take a pay cut, and accept more rules "for our safety." LOL.

odin,

It`s the Elvis in ya Bro, he use to shoot up the TV`s in Graceland all the time, LMFAO!! I would have paid to see anybody watch you react that way, although I would have asked you for the shotgun to join in the festivities!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DC and Fin4Life.....

Thanks for the info....

I was in a meeting...and now headed out....

I'll checj out that sight on Friday Fin4.....

and DC....I have never tried the SS....but if you recommend it....I will give it a look....

Sweeedt. Let's start the season!!!! We'll take on any team, right now!!! Let's have the first game tonight, 8 PM. be there, patsies!!! We're about to teach you a lesson in PAIN!!!!! Brother!!!!! Watcha gonna doooo, when Chad Henne, and the Miami Dolphins, run wild on yooooou???!????

I'm so fired up that I'm leaving work now to go to the gym. I'm gonna punch a hole in the wall on the way out just to get warmed up.

13-3 folks. Write it down.

I wish I had confidence in TS and his OL that. He build.. But time will tell the story I think it's my opinion that this year success is on the OL and Henne hopefully improvement
Hey!! We have gone threw a lot of bad football since the last AFC championship game... So I like the inthusiasim and confident level the coach has he this team still has to prove it on the field!! GO PHINS LET'S KICK SOME A S S ON THE 12th

Well ya know Mean Gene! I'm gonna tell you how it's goin' down!!! We're about to teach the AFC a lesson in PAIN, brother!

Patsies, whatcha gonna dooooooo, when Chad Henne and the Miami Dolphins, run wild on yooooouu?????
