Tony Sparano on 2011 season: 'I got all confidence in world and you should, too!'

The NFL season is still a dozen days away but I'm ready for it. Fact is, most anyone who listened to coach Tony Sparano deliver the keynote speech today during the club's 2011 Kickoff Luncheon is ready for it after hearing promises of excitement and daring-do, and winning.

In other words, this was just what the doctor ordered for fans hungry for some good news peppered with a little bravado.

"This 2011 team is going to be exciting," Sparano said. "They're going to have a great attitude ... It is going to have excitment. We have an outstanding defense. We have good players. We have an enthusiastic, outstanding, attacking offense. Our special teams is attacking. This is all on the upbeat right now. Everybody in the building in full of passion. Full of passion right now. Excited. The other thing we have is daring people."

Cool. On the chow line of things I want to chew on, give me some enthusiastic, outstanding, attacking offense every time. Also, give me victories.

And Sparano promised those, too.

"Here's what I'm here to tell you," he began. "I've seen a lot of football teams and been part of more than my share -- unfortunately. But I'll say this to you, a lot of them have been good teams. I've been around teams before, seen what they're made up of and this football team right here, is a good team. There are good people in that locker room. We got good people in the room, good chemistry, they give off a good vibe, they enjoy being around each other. I'm walking through the locker room last night at 8 o'clock at night. We broke at about 5 o'clock and there are still guys hanging out with each other. That's a good sign. That tells me an awful lot.

"I'm going to say this to you and I know that I'm in public and I'm don't say a whole lot, I'm one of those take everything, give nothing kind of guys. This team will win. That's not a surprise to them. They've heard it."

Other highlights from the speech?

"This team is going to build its own tradition."

"This journey won't go without problems. It won't go without those things. But this group is a pretty daring group. A daring group, and they'll push forward."

Sparano called his team a "heck of a group." And, said, that group "will take the next step."

"I have all the confidence in the world," he said, "and you should, too!"

I like that you fired up bro!! The rhythm is good for the wildcat but this is going to be a passing offense like the old days..WHY???
no running game dude if I was Daboll. I pass. On every down even if you have to shovel pass it or little hitch passes because the OL can't run with colombo as a starter or Carey.. But before you guys jump down my throat, let's give it a chance to see how this guys play together and see if Big Jake can play with no rust...it all depends on the OL to see how far we can go!! GO PHINS ALL THE WAY BABE!!!

Daniel Thomas may get left behind in Miami
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 1, 2011, 3:24 PM EDT

Miami Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas is congratulated by teammates after he scored a second quarter touchdown against the Carolina Panthers during their preseason NFL football game in Miami Reuters

The Dolphins may rely on Reggie Bush as an every-down back because they have no choice.

Rookie Daniel Thomas, once expected to split carries or more with Bush, has struggled to pick up the Dolphins offense. He was chewed out for running tentatively at the goal line in the team’s second preseason game, and then barely played with the starters in the third game.

Pass blocking has been an issue for the second round pick.

Bringing in Larry Johnson may not have been the greatest sign for Thomas. There have been numerous reports the Dolphins haven’t been happy with Thomas “tip-toeing” behind the line of scrimmage.

Sparano talked in the offseason about returning to a run-first approach. It’s hard to see that happening with Bush and Thomas at the helm.

We know Reggie is getting a lot of positive press, but he didn’t consistently excel on a much better offense in New Orleans.

Dolphins fans may wind up missing the days of Ricky and Ronnie.

Can all the haters and miserable human beings on this blog please wait till after the first game to say this player stinks, Sparano stinks, and the front office stinks!!

This is getting so old!!!

I loved the speech Tony. I ready to run through a wall for ya!!!!

Let's get the guys through this game injury free!!

Fins will beat the Patriots and shock the nfl! Write it down. Great start at home, gotta find a way to get it done! Go FINS!

I THINK ALL U FAKE DOLPHIN FANS SHOULD GIVE THE NEGATIVITY A BREAK,WE ALL KNOW THEY HAVE NOT BEEN VERY GOOD FOR A WHILE. BUT I TRULY BELIEVE HENNING WAS HENNE'S DOWNFALL.THIS YEAR THERE'S NO EXCUSES FOR CHAD AND I THINK WE ARE ALL GOING TO BE DAMN GLAD WE KEPT HIM. HENNE WILL BE A TOP 10 QB THIS YR AND OUR TEAM WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.

Just because we give our opinion on
TS and his screw up on the OL doesn't make us a fake PHINS fan! TS needs to build our confidence that he is going to get the job done this year! I think Henne has turn the corner and the offense fits his style his skill sets and of course audible helps him, in other words he is smart enough I think that he can't recognize defensive coverage, so that helps... Again no disrespect to you but my self I give constructive criticism about our team!!

I hate the spell check it gets me every time
I meant to post Henne is smart enough to recognize defense's. My opinion is Henne is smart enough.... I think it was the offense schemes that they had last year by a old fart that implement a offense that work back in the 70' 80 '. Not in this era!! I can't wait and see if we are all right about Henne!!

MY COMMENT IS NOT DIRECTED AT ANY TRUE DOLPHIN FANS.I MYSELF WISH I HAD MORE GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THEM,BUT I REALLY THINK THEY TURN THE CORNER THIS YEAR.ONE THING I DONT UNDERSTAND IS THAT TS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A OL COACH, WHY DOES THAT SEEM TO BE OUR BIGGEST CONCERN GOING INTO THIS SEASON.I NOTICED THAT SINCE HE'S GOT HERE HE HAS BEEN MIXING AND MATCHING THE OL AND STILL CANT GET IT RIGHT.THANK GOD FOR J.LONG.
