Jason Taylor is returning to the Miami Dolphins.
I am reporting that Taylor was contacted by both Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland in recent days and invited to fill Miami's role as a depth pass rusher.
He has accepted.
He announced his return to the Dolphins on his Jason Taylor Foundation Facebook page.
Taylor has also told and texted several teammates so this is absolutely happening. It is no joke.
Taylor, 36, is returning to the team after the second stint away -- the lastest last season with the New York Jets, with whom he went to the AFC Championship game. Taylor had five sacks with New York last season.
The Dolphins have been searching for depth pass-rush help since the middle of last season. While Koa Misi remains the team's starting strongside linebacker and Cameron Wake is the team's weakside linebacker on early downs, the Dolphins are looking for help in obvious passing downs.
Taylor is author of 132.5 career sacks. He played with Miami from 1997-2007 and then was traded to the Washington Redskins for a second round pick by Bill Parcells in 2008. He returned to the Dolphins in 2009 and gave the Dolphins seven sacks.
But the Dolphins showed little interest in Taylor last season and he took the only offer that was on the table: From the Jets.
The Jets, however, are going in another direction this year.
Good idea?
I like it. While Taylor is not the sack machine he was early in his career, he is a threat. He is a great locker room presence. And as of now, he is a Miami Dolphin.
Again.

Very nice...

Welcome back JT!!! but please someone in the organization scrub this guy down with clorox and blast him with a fire hose for about a half hour before letting him back in the facilities after wearing that awful jets crap for a year thanks
Posted by: Newman | August 01, 2011 at 02:03 PM
I like it -
He can be a great situational player and when the time comes retire a Dolphin.
He's still a good pass rusher.
Posted by: NHDolphan | August 01, 2011 at 02:03 PM
Welcome back JT! At the end of this season you'll retire a Dolphin!
Posted by: DyingBreed | August 01, 2011 at 02:04 PM
I bet we end up getting ronnie brown as well. I doubt anyone will pay him what he wants
Posted by: BoulderFinFan | August 01, 2011 at 02:05 PM
I bet Nolan can do a lot with him.
Posted by: NHDolphan | August 01, 2011 at 02:05 PM
I thought JT wanted to win a Superbowl? Why on earth would he sign back with us? LOL
Posted by: Joe Schmoe | August 01, 2011 at 02:06 PM
CAN JT BE DIAGNOSED WITH BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER FOR CONTINUING TO COME BACK TO A TEAM THAT CONTINUALLY SHEWS HIM AWAY?
OR CAN IRELAND BE DIAGNOSED WITH BORDERLINE PERSONALITY FOR CONTINUING TO WELCOME BACK A PLAYER HE CONTINUALLY SHEWS AWAY?
CAN ANYONE ANSWER THIS FOR ME. THAT MEANS YOU TOO DR. LELAND?
Posted by: DyingBreed | August 01, 2011 at 02:07 PM
The 2011 season has started and the only single thing we know FOR SURE about the oline is...um...basically nothing. Nobody can say with certainty who will be playing where. This is progress?
Posted by: 5-11 in 2011 | August 01, 2011 at 02:08 PM
Good News
Wake will play on one side, Taylor on passing downs on the other side.
Posted by: jason | August 01, 2011 at 02:08 PM
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! A 36 year old pass rusher?????? I love JT, but WTF?!?!?!? I'm slowly losing my mind with every Dolphins update.
Posted by: Rob M | August 01, 2011 at 02:09 PM
Ok. Now I am feeling better about the front office.
Posted by: ajdczar | August 01, 2011 at 02:09 PM
JOE SHMOE,
JT COMING BACK IS FULL EVIDENCE HE CAN ALSO BE DIAGNOSED WITH BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER aka "ALMOST CRAZY".
Posted by: DyingBreed | August 01, 2011 at 02:09 PM
I make you some okra gumbo tonight, childrens!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"IS THE ENTIRE PLANET ALMOST CRAZY"?
Posted by: DyingBreed | August 01, 2011 at 02:11 PM
I like it. Sign Leonard Davis and Columbo both. What about TE Miller? or Signing Soliai to a long term deal to free up so cap space?
Posted by: mac1492 | August 01, 2011 at 02:13 PM
How did they sign JT? I thought there was something in the new CBA stating Miami can't sign any FA without a previous history with the Cowboys.
Posted by: Simon Says | August 01, 2011 at 02:14 PM
Is it 1996 all over again ?
Posted by: Rand | August 01, 2011 at 02:15 PM
I can see him playing a role with the young LB's we've got...Guys like Edds, Misi, and Wake...Not a bad signing...But we need help at the TE position and G...And we're not talking about our biggest need, QB...
Posted by: #1 Dolphin Fan in Montreal | August 01, 2011 at 02:15 PM
I have a funny feeling Colombo is going to start at RT & Carey will be cut at the end of camp. His play has declined & his knees & weight are annual concerns. He looked slow last year.
As of right now, I think this is the Phins opening day Oline: Long, Garner, Pouncey, Incognito, Colombo.
Make of that what you will!
Posted by: Joe Schmoe | August 01, 2011 at 02:15 PM
welcome back JT!
Hate it or Love it. Chicken little fin fans.
We needed that rotational OLB to go along with Wake and Misi. It makes sense. Let the dude retire a Fin!
That being said, chicken Littles:
So who's our starter at QB??
Whoever it is:
1.) Put him in the right position.
2.) Let him put others in the right position (part of his job).
3.) we use our weapons the way they are suppose to be used.
Thomas 13-17 carries a game.
Lex 3-5 carries as reliever.
Bush 4-6 carries open field plays> 3-6 catches per game and 3-6 returns per game.
I don't care how many balls Marshall catches, how many Bess catches, as long as they get in the endzone. I'd trade 30 of last year's catches for 6 TDs for either of these guys.
Make Henne's attempts count.
See when you throw just to throw, you're setting it up for failure, when passes = an average run.
See with Thomas, you can run just to run because you have the ability to open holes up or to break tackles. When you pass just to pass, you increase INTs.
Keep him under 25. I'm just asking for Henne to help himself and make the best out of those 25 and we'll be fine. trust me. We'l be fine on offense.

Joe Schmoe, I was just about to post my starting o-line, which is exactly the same as yours...The one thing that might change however is if O'Hara signs...
Posted by: #1 Dolphin Fan in Montreal | August 01, 2011 at 02:16 PM
I bet they are trying to re-negotiate carey's contract as we speak
Posted by: BoulderFinFan | August 01, 2011 at 02:19 PM
I'm going to give Jason Taylor a great big piece of my mind for going to the Jets because I still can not believe that the Jets were the "ONLY" deal on the table. Then, I'm going to ask for his autograph and hug him...
Posted by: Jason Taylor | August 01, 2011 at 02:19 PM
Another less than noteworthy move by Ireland. Ross has put the screws to these guys not to spend money. Won't go to the cap. Signing JT is a sign that the FA signings have comet an end. This was done to distract those of us that will be screaming about the lack of talent and need acquisitions. Another farce. Ross ha to jhave told Ireland to save money. Ireland has to be carrying out this edict. Ross has continuously complained about losing money on this team. If he didn't tell this to Ireland, he would be flipping his lid right now. It's all part of a grand scheme. It has to be, that's the only explanation for their relative inactivity

fan crying begins in 3...2...1...
Posted by: Rick | August 01, 2011 at 02:21 PM
I think they keep him until the end of camp & preseason. Two possible reasons: A body to have in camp & 2. Hopefully looks OK in preseason & possibly gets traded.
Posted by: Joe Schmoe | August 01, 2011 at 02:21 PM
Randy Moss should have destroyed every record in the book. should have made J.rice look like T.Ginn. how sad. Not a Pats, Viks, or raider fan, but that guy was awesome.
Posted by: dolfanSF | August 01, 2011 at 02:23 PM
best thing about this is the information about the ny jets that he will be able to tell us not to mention the fact that the jets play extremely well against the patriots and he will tell us how they scouted new england so we in essence this will help vs patriot and vs jets which is 4 games which 1/4 of our schedule..good move
Posted by: jorge | August 01, 2011 at 02:23 PM
He can teach the team to go 1-15. Can we go in another direction already? The best we got out of Jason Taylor was a 2nd round pick when he was traded to Washington.
Posted by: Ken from CT | August 01, 2011 at 02:24 PM
JOE SHMOE,
SPARANO BLEW SMOKE UP OUR BUTTS THE ENTIRE 2010 PRESEASON CONCERNING THE OLINE. I WOULDNT BE SURPRISED IN THE LEAST BIT IF CARYE'S THE STARTING LT AND COLUMBO'S THE STARTING RT FOR THE FIRST 5 GAMES OF THE SEASON. WHILE LONG'S STILL ON THE PUP.
sPARANO'S A MASTER AT BLOWING SMOKE UP OUR A*SSES! ESPECIALLY DURING THE PRESEASON.
Posted by: DyingBreed | August 01, 2011 at 02:24 PM
Jrljr2 you know this how?? Don't say common sense
Posted by: ltcdolphin | August 01, 2011 at 02:24 PM
Interesting move....good depth move. Don't see how this can't help give guys like Misi a break from time to time. He can also learn from one of the best.
Posted by: Craig M | August 01, 2011 at 02:25 PM
Think about it guys,
If Long's injury wasnt as serious as Sparano blows smoke up our a*sses to not believe it is. Then why is he placed on PUP?
Why bring in Columbo too? I have a great feeling we'll be missing Long for at least the 1st 5 games of 2011.
Posted by: DyingBreed | August 01, 2011 at 02:27 PM
Welcome back JT!!!

GOOD PICK UP FOR DEPTH
Posted by: SureSHockPHins | August 01, 2011 at 02:27 PM
I still think with the addition of Fields and JT that there's a trade coming with Denver of one of our DL, probably Merling or Langford....hopefully not Starks. By all reports Denver are handcuffed to make any moves right now and would like to free up space to add to their team. Moving Orton would do that. I still Orton ends up in Miami and a DL goes to Denver. We'll see...
Posted by: Craig M | August 01, 2011 at 02:27 PM
I am glad JT is back. Now he can retire a Dolfin. At least management is correcting the error of their ways, he never should have been traded in the first place. Well, there is still a long way to go. What's up with the QB?
Posted by: SickCaneFan | August 01, 2011 at 02:27 PM
the phins to hold night pracice..but stephen ross will turn the lights off at the joe so that the fans and local media will not be able to see how much the team sux especilly the qb’s.lmao.
Posted by: 2 watt | August 01, 2011 at 02:28 PM
It's funny, I was thinking it would look weird to have Burnett wearing JT's old number. Guess that won't be happening now.
Posted by: Craig M | August 01, 2011 at 02:29 PM
jorge,
I seriously doubt JT will be able to give us little more than we already know about the Jets. However, he may be able to give us stern revelation as to how bis Sanchez turds are that he drops into the camode. Or if he wash his hands after he flushes.
