Jason Taylor returning to the Dolphins

Jason Taylor is returning to the Miami Dolphins.

I am reporting that Taylor was contacted by both Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland in recent days and invited to fill Miami's role as a depth pass rusher.

He has accepted.

He announced his return to the Dolphins on his Jason Taylor Foundation Facebook page.

Taylor has also told and texted several teammates so this is absolutely happening. It is no joke.

Taylor, 36, is returning to the team after the second stint away -- the lastest last season with the New York Jets, with whom he went to the AFC Championship game. Taylor had five sacks with New York last season.

The Dolphins have been searching for depth pass-rush help since the middle of last season. While Koa Misi remains the team's starting strongside linebacker and Cameron Wake is the team's weakside linebacker on early downs, the Dolphins are looking for help in obvious passing downs.

Taylor is author of 132.5 career sacks. He played with Miami from 1997-2007 and then was traded to the Washington Redskins for a second round pick by Bill Parcells in 2008. He returned to the Dolphins in 2009 and gave the Dolphins seven sacks.

But the Dolphins showed little interest in Taylor last season and he took the only offer that was on the table: From the Jets.

The Jets, however, are going in another direction this year.

Good idea?

I like it. While Taylor is not the sack machine he was early in his career, he is a threat. He is a great locker room presence. And as of now, he is a Miami Dolphin.

Again.

YEAH WERE STUCK WITH CHAD HENNE>>>>>>>> BUT AT LEAST ITS NOT MARK SANCHEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yea okay mike, when JT Leads us to a SB this year....
U will get a big U told me so*lmao*

One can criticize the Jets all they want. One can speculate all they want. One can say if this or that all they want. Until we finish the season ahead of them, they are ahead of us. It is that simple.

CHAD HENNE > MARK SANCHEZ just sayin

Braylon Edwards is better than brian hartline, thats all i know...and malcolm floyd is still floating around out there who is also better.....how come no interest there...o wait, i forgot he has no ties to dallas either!!!

Posted by: superPHIN

People forget that this is not Fantasy Football. There are things like salary cap, a players desire to take a contract, or play 2nd fiddle when they are used to being the man. Those things all come in to play. Just because as a fan you'd rather have "X" player, doesn't mean it can happen. Moss is retiring because his skill has eroded some but he doesn't want to play second fiddle or for less money. Braylon "DWI" Edwards is another diva we don't need on this team. Last year Randy Moss managed 28 catches for 398 yards and 5 TD's; Brian Hartline was better than that.

Joe, don't argue with the little girl...He knows it all...LOL!!

A++

Hypo Thetical, Amen brother...

Fact is, the Jets re-signed their priorities which make them contenders again. Whoever they lose are replacable.

Miami signs scrub FA's & fails to address their biggest need of all...QB.

CraigM,

Why is it that you see your argument better than anyone else here? Maybe it could be you're doing a terrible job of relaying exactly what you. If everyone's getting the exact same interpretation of what they think you mean. Then it means youre doing a terrible job of getting accross your message.

Everyone cant be wrong if they are getting the exact same interpretation of what you are saying. Have you considered this? Maybe you should reevaluate exactly how you're putting your message accross then hit post.

If not, you'll keep right on thinking everyone here is wrong but you.

I wish Jason wasn't coming back. He said how he loved the Jets and it was so much better there and was treated better. They jettison him after one year? Not treated so well it seems. I don't think he will get the homecoming he thinks he will. It will never be the same for me again. I thought he wanted to win a Super Bowl?

uh...... rick, did i mention anything anywhere in that comment about randy moss???

If braylon edwards is thinking he is going to recieve holmes type $$$ then maybe he is on the market for good reason but somehow i truly doubt his price range is that high and im almost sure Floyd would be cheaper....just sayin!!!

CraigM,

The greatest problem we all seem to have is truly understanding exactly what your orinal point is. Maybe youre mis-stating it because everyone's interpreting it the exact same way.

Are we all wrong about your original point? If so, please reclarify.

Craig M...

Can you NAME ONE OF THESE PEOPLE....you are so intent on arguing with...

Then one of THOSE PEOPLE .....can respond.....

Rick--excellent points.

Some of these fans have a child-like view of how free agency works, as if it's just a big cafeteria line where the Dolphins can select whatever they want.

As you said, there are money constraints but just as big a factor is that the players THEMSELVES are making a decision on where they want to play.

It seems some people assume that, say, Vince Young might have come to the Dolphins but there is ZERO actual evidence to support that---and the same is true with dozens of other FA's. You just can't go out and sign whoever you want---not unless the salary cap and 31 other teams have suddenly been eliminated.

Seems as if it's very hard for some people to realize that.

Rick,

I have to argue that there is NO WAY Hartline is a better player then Braylon Edwards. Hartline can't even beat average corners 1 on 1 consistantly yet. Braylon can! Braylon also can turn a 10 yard play into a big gain. He has shown he is capable of doing that. Edwards who is a deep threat and a big WR can be a nice compliment to Marshall's underneath skill set. Hartline is a depth guy. He is at best a 3rd or 4th WR. He wouldn't start for any team in the league other then yours truly.

Granted Braylon has shown that he is problematic and could explode in a bad way at anytime with his behavior but choir boys don't always win in the NFL.

Edwards is a much better player and compliment to Marshall then a backup like Hartline is.

SuperPhin, no you didn't. I was just expanding on my thoughts from there.

Craig, you told DB to stick to your point. Frankly, your point is pointless.

The Jets don't need to get that much better. They can afford to lose role players & still be better than us & 95% of the NFL. They can EASILY fill role players this year while Miami struggles to find starters!

That tells you ALL you need to know about the state of the 2 franchises.

The guys they resigned keep them in contention. The guys we signed don't even guarantee us not finishing in last place.

Miami has 2 HUGE problems they identified from last year. O-line & QB. Exactly what has Miami done to address them? Instead of worrying what people say about what the Jets have or haven't done, think about our own team.

We have done SQUAT to address 2 of our 3 biggest needs.

I have heard of teams restructering players contracts to try and free up cap space for their teams...the jets have done it, the colts have done it, the Cards, Seahawks, and Pats have done it,,, is it so hard to believe if miami was that interested in any of those said players,,THEY wouldnt do it????

No way Hartline's better than Edwards. Yet still, we dont need another huge contract wr if it doesnt guarantee a SB berth.

We still have huge unproven issue at qb. As long as this question lingers it doesnt matter to have the best two wr's in the entire nfl lined up opposite one another.

I HAVE ALLREADY ASK BEFORE BUT WILL ASK AGAIN WHAT IS THE BEST HOUSE PAINT THE BOY AT WORK TOLD ME SHEWIN WILLAMS PAINT BUT DO YOU HAVE TO GO TO A SPECAL STORE FOR THIS? THEY ARE GOING TO PAY ME SOME MONEY TO PANT THERE HOUSE AND I TOLD THEM I WOULD GET THE GOOD PAINT FOR IT.

DyingBreed,

If he is wanting a big contract I agree that's not the missing piece for Miami to take the next step. Miami is a head coach, QB, defensive back who can catch, rush LB not 36 years or older away but adding Braylon would give Chad Henne the best chance to succeed.

Joe Shmoe,

CraigM fails to see two things:

1. They have zero oline issues.
2. They have zero qb issues

Thats not to add they dont have glaring defensive issue, albeit the base pass rush can be upgraded.

Dyingbreed,

Craig M, hates his life. So in turn hates everyone. Listen he is a simple minded fruit cake. And he stinks,i can smell him from here.

Remember also, Henning is gone. We'll still be a hard running team--call that 80's football if you want--but Henning won't be the one calling the shots. I am optimistic about the season. I'd love an elite QB, too, but I'm not going to criticise every player the Dolphins pick up because they aren't Tom Brady. It doesn't make any sense.

AndyJ,

First Henne needs to learn how to consistently get the ball into the hands of the wr's he currently has. Edwards is not going to instanly solve that.

Thats at least, not until he turns into the rubberband man. I dont see that happening.

A starting duo of Brandon Marshall who is a beast underneath and a deep threat like Braylon Edward and then having Bess work the slot and Hartline, Gates and Marlon Moore as all depth guys would make a very good WR group.

Forcing Hartline as the starter really stinks! Marshall gets all the attention and Hartline struggles to beat coverage against even average NFL cornerbacks.

I have stated here once before:

Craig M bashes every single move every single other team makes. Every single team in the NFL is getting worse this year. Yet, he praises and blows the trumpet (pun intended) on every single move the fins make.

Dedicated fan is one thing. Sheer avoidance of reality is another.

Also, it is pure futility to have a debate with him because he will NEVER respond directly to the good points you make, never acknowledge your questions, but just go off on a tangent. So you can never ever resolve the point you were debating, whether you agree to disagree or not.

IT IS NOW THE TIME OF YEAR THE BEST UGLY TOMATOS COME EVEN THOUGH THE GANG OF DEFEAT WILL STILL EAT THERE GARBAGE PALE TOMATOS IN THERE TRALERS. THE UGLY TOMATOS ARE BEST FROM NEW JERSY AND OTHER PLACES.

ncfinfan70,

My pessimism with Henne chiefly remains this until he probves otherwise:

"Henne failed in every single opportunity to rise to the occasion in 2010 when we needed him to rise most".

No qb is perfect, but to have a qb fail evry single time? The bigger the moment gets, the lower Henne seemed to shrink.

DyingBreed 4:10

You forgot to add the Jets have ZERO coaching issues.

I just find it very hard to believe if ireland /ross went up to guys like marshall, dansby and Long and asked if they would consider redoing their contracts to free up cap space so miami can add more peices to make this team better, they would outright refuse....no it is more likely that this staff making personal decisions are just not that bright!!!

AUGUST IS THE MONTH OF TOMATOS IN ALL THE LANDS IT IS WHEN THEY COME OUT ESPECALLY THE UGLY TOMATOS THAT ARE THE BEST ONES. YOU CAN MAKE SAUCE OR SLICE THEM THEN WITH SOME OLIVE OIL AND BLASONIC VINAGAR

Aloco, Benjamin Moore is the best paint.

Excuse Me, Has anyone seen the Trifecta's #1 draft pick from 2010 that replaced JT. You know the guy that got paid millions and never play last year, he has the name that sounds like the vacume cleaner, Orick, or something like that.

Simon,

CraigM also bahes every single poster here for being negative about the team. Then when we post a positive about the team he bashes us for that too.

With CraigM we're not even allowed to post positive about the team unless it was first his idea. CraigM's problem is he's only here to seek personal praise and glory. As long as we all think exactly as he does then all is fine in CraigM's Planetary kingdom.

JOE SCHMOE THANK YOU. I WILL FIND THIS PAINT NOW AND TELL THE BOY AT WORK IT IS NOT SHEWAN WILLAMS LIKE HE TOLD ME AND I WILL USE THE BEJAMIN MORE LIKE YOU SAID. YOU ARE A CLASSY POSTER.

TE targets just got interesting---ZAch miller is going to visit Seahawks---Oakland isnt a lock anymore----And kevin boss still hasnt reach any agreement with giants----

This might be the last area we target be4 we go all in with the poker game with Orton

As always, the Fins are concentrating on the things we don't really need right now...

and find it kind of curious that the JT announcement is made on the day they planned to have a night scrimmage... :)

JOE SCHMOE THE ONLY ONE WHO TOLD ME ABOUT THE BEST PAINT. ALL OTHERS MUST BE IN THERE RUSTY TRALERS THAT HAVENT BEEN PANTED IN 50 YEARS.

I wonder how Jerad Odrick feels right now...sure he probably be happy for a mentor in JT, but what if his playing time decreases over having a 34 yr old pass rusher take his spot...can u say draft bust...i might want out to!!!

Please go back to the Jets Jason...u belong there

Nobody argue with the little girl...She knows her football...LOL!

superPHIN, Taylor plays LB, Odrick plays an end on a 3/4 defense, which is more like a d tackle in a 4/3.

JT, welcome back, I think. You'll find the Dolphins as you left them, with NO OFFENSE !

Since were going old school, with players and going back to the days of Dave Wanstadt with Sparano running the ball every down, is Jay Fielder available ?

ALoco,

I beg your pardon, my trailer has no rust. For I my friend primed and painted it using the very best Rustoleum paint available today.

How dare you insult my trailer using such backwater brackish language like "rusty trailer". Please apologize.

At this point, I don't want Orton. I'm prepared to ride out the season with Henne & Moore. Hopefully Henne wakes up or Moore becomes a viable QB option. Not holding my breath on either.

If another failed season nets us a competent GM & coach, I'll be Ok with it. That's my optimistic outlook.

It's one thing to be a fan and support your team. But, in all honesty, blind allegiance will get us nowhere. This team has done nothing winning teams do & everything unsuccesful teams do.

I see nothing to be excited about but I'll continue to support the team on the field. At the end of the day, they are playing because Jeff & Tony let them. It's not their fault.

WTF? Odrick play TE. JT will probably come in during passing situations for Misi.

Misi plays Rolb, so wth does JT's coming back have to do with DE Odrick?

DyingBreed

Knowing what we know, we are the bigger fools for even trying to engage him.

He recently was on someone about something and asked if they would admit when they were wrong or run and hide. Well what does he do when he is wrong? You ask him about it 10 times and get zero responses, hides. He won't own up to it while many others do. Example:

Who was it who said yesterday that Young woould be signed as soon as he's released? Was it DB? Guaranteed, right? OK bud.....the clock's ticking. Let's see where he ends up....

Posted by: Craig M | July 28, 2011 at 05:27 PM

Well, as we know, Philly picked him up about 10 hours later. I reminded him of this several times and of course he never responded.

Maybe he has BPD?

JT's to small to play DE in a 3-4 defenses. LOL...

no offense micheal, but i put nothing past this staff when it comes to having JT playing anywhere on this defense.

the good news: the defense will be good, we WILL get beat DEEP a few times using last years secondary, this will put the score out of the reach of our low scoring offense, costing us just enough games to make us loosers again. SOLUTION: keep the games close. sign the best CORNERBACK available(asante samuel) completing a "NO-HOLE" defense capable of pitching shut-outs, yeilding less scores to mirror and allow ball-hawk-RASHAD JONES to provide big hits and interceptions over the top to limit the deep ball and keep the score in our range. the one position that could make the biggest difference but we can't see it!

Excellent outlook Joe-

We're all frustrated, the FO seems like clowns... but we'll hope for the best when gametime comes.

BTW-welcome back JT

Folks, for your legal well being, Craig M might be a 14 year old girl in which case many of use could theoritically be accused of being child predators. I recommend dealing with the grown men on the blog.

Simon,

I never lend great creedense to anything CraigM says. He's always been exactly what we see now and there's very little chance of change. If he'll only just admit he's "almost crazy" like the rest of us are. Then just maybe he'll begin to shed that superiority complex.

I am very excited about bringing JT back. There are a few times when an organization realizes that leadership in a locker room, institutional experience, and being the face of the francise brings excitement to the players and fans.

Some may argue the face of the francise comment, but let's face it, if JT was around last season he would have been.

this is where zach thomas needs to step in and say ...look little bro its tough to walk away but if you dont...youll be the favre of this generation and nobody wants that title!!!

Oh yeah forgot to add, Henne (aka Spanky, yes he looks like the little rascal kid with his small hat) sucks.

Whats gotten lost in all of the pessimism we all share. Is the fact that 7th rd safety Jimmy Williams leads the team in ints thru the first 3 practices.

Jimmy Wilson was considered a 1st-2nd rd draft pick before his legal trouble. I know right now someone have fixiated on Reshad Jones taking the starting free safety spot. But also keep eye on Wilson.

Fornerlyn considered a 1st-2nd rd pick before legal troubles, this kid could become a HUGE STEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
