Jason Taylor is returning to the Miami Dolphins.
I am reporting that Taylor was contacted by both Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland in recent days and invited to fill Miami's role as a depth pass rusher.
He has accepted.
He announced his return to the Dolphins on his Jason Taylor Foundation Facebook page.
Taylor has also told and texted several teammates so this is absolutely happening. It is no joke.
Taylor, 36, is returning to the team after the second stint away -- the lastest last season with the New York Jets, with whom he went to the AFC Championship game. Taylor had five sacks with New York last season.
The Dolphins have been searching for depth pass-rush help since the middle of last season. While Koa Misi remains the team's starting strongside linebacker and Cameron Wake is the team's weakside linebacker on early downs, the Dolphins are looking for help in obvious passing downs.
Taylor is author of 132.5 career sacks. He played with Miami from 1997-2007 and then was traded to the Washington Redskins for a second round pick by Bill Parcells in 2008. He returned to the Dolphins in 2009 and gave the Dolphins seven sacks.
But the Dolphins showed little interest in Taylor last season and he took the only offer that was on the table: From the Jets.
The Jets, however, are going in another direction this year.
Good idea?
I like it. While Taylor is not the sack machine he was early in his career, he is a threat. He is a great locker room presence. And as of now, he is a Miami Dolphin.
Again.

LP, We need competition, because truly Henne has not proven he is "IT" at all. Just can not waste picks and big guaranteed money unless we know the guy were bringing is "IT".
So I agree on the competition, just not overpaying for it.

He talked some crap about the Dolphins but who knows how they treated him. A pleasant surprise indeed!

HO HUM - Save my friends... thats great. I am excited to see how he looks in preseason. Competition makes everyone better.
Although the blog says otherwise, I am not sure Orton wears Aqua & Orange.
Posted by: Sandoval | August 01, 2011 at 05:28 PM
Poizen
Got to to admit its a concern, thats all. The fact that it has only been 3 days practice and a udfa's first three days were better than Hennes does not instill confidence.
I do agree with your point though, lets see how they do in the preseason games.

AndyNJ,
I wasn't trying to argue that Hartline is a better player than Edwards, just that I think one problematic WR on this team is enough. Additionally, again, these players have to be willing to play for us, in the role we would want them for, and for the money we can pay them. For example, Jason Taylor is content with a reserve role at this point, is familiar with the system, and probably is playing for not much more than the veteran minimum.
Posted by: Rick | August 01, 2011 at 05:30 PM
if devlin outplays henne, then he deserves to start....whats the worse thing that can go wrong, we go 6-10...whoopdeedo, were not far from that now!!!

The Matt Roth to Miami idea works for me.

JT one of the best technician of pass rushing skills ever.
Posted by: oscar canosa | August 01, 2011 at 05:33 PM
super, if our o-line is good, 6-10 could be a good guess with Devlin.
What I am worried about is a 9-7 sneak in wildcard season. With that type of season Henne could still be just average, then what?
But if the O-line is good, I think we will be a really tough team with Henne. Like I said, and Mando actually confirmed. D. Bess was talking he saw a brand new Henne, at the voluntary workouts, a better henne, so lets hope he is right.'
That was not a comment to the media either, that was a bar discussion, and he wasnt boozin. :)
Posted by: Poizen | August 01, 2011 at 05:34 PM
Jason Taylor is not familiar with the system.
2010 - Exit JT the JET A sshole.
2010 - Enter Mike Nolan super DC.

One can only hope Poizen, But honestly im done with all the words about how bad or how good henne can be...its time for actions to speak louder than words this year for him...If he doesnt then we go all out next year for a franchise QB...NOBODY can argue that much!!!!

I wish Sparano would have noticed we needed help along the line before guys like Clabo and Dahl signed. Now we are left with scraps trying to fix our biggest weakness from last year. I wouldn't be mad if they shipped next years first rounder to NO for Carl Nicks. We need another stud along the line. This team has no time to wait for Pouncey to develope. Carey is loosing it. Colombo is garbage. Jerry is a child. Incognito is just not very good. I guess the only thing to hope for now is that Sparano names his other 4 guys and their positions now so they have some sort of continuity when big Jake comes back, and hope they play solid as a unit. I just don't see it happening. I think it is fitting that Sparano is considered a O-line genius and that is the unit that may ultimately get him fired.

is it possible that jerry is getting the sean smith treatment

Its pretty obvious that Jason Taylor a true Dolphin didn't put up with the B.S. that Czar Bill ParSell Out was all about. Should he have gone to the Jets probably not, but i'm sure he was motivated by Parcells.
Dont take out your frustrations on Taylor it was obviously Bill Parcells being a douchebag.

It is becoming clear that Coaches(Lombardi, Shula, BP) cannot ride the Players as before. Why? A different, more modern mentality in the Athletes. So, the next great Coach will be the one who better adapts to this situation.

Who gives a $%|t........we are still a 5-11 team.
Who will carry the ball? We have a rookie and a
3rd down back....and a below average Qb. Every
team will stack the box with 8 to stop the rookie and
force Henne to pass.

dear fins staff, and troubled fans,
the answer to this one question will make or break the season:
it is critical that you transport 1 oz. of water from place A to place B:
you have 1 cork.
question:
If you have 2 buckets, and the first one is full of holes and leaks, and the second has 1 hole but is easily repaired by using your one and only cork, which bucket yields the desired result and justifies expending your 1 cork?
hint: do NOT use the bucket jeff ireland is holding(his bucket is the one full of holes)
answer: the offense is full of holes and cannot be fixed right now. the defense is 1 player away from being solid and complete, if your defense plays great all game but will give up a 40 yard TD bomb and allow your water to empty from the bucket what good is it? it's No better then the bucket jeff is holding(full of holes)!
** use what little resources are left to aquire 1 cork(asante samuel) and insert him into the bucket with 1 hole(miami's defense) to keep the scores little, as our offense does NOT score a LOT of points!

Hey ITC, still waiting for that big signing? Another grade A FA gone(miller). I'm telling you, they can't spend the money. They have roughly 7-8 mil left. Not counting Solai renegotiation and possibly cutting Carey. Ross has made this the year he saves his money. Ireland and FO s jhands tied. They needed Olinemen right? Did they sign one or two of the top guys? Nope, retreads all around. Ross will not let them spend it this year. Period.
Posted by: jrljr2 | August 01, 2011 at 06:33 PM
Theirs good football players of all shapes and sizes from all over the united states but this regime only looks for players with certain size requirements and apparently can only get guys their familiar with from Dallas that leaves tons of players they don't even look at wich is why they're not qualified to run a professional football team mr Ross are you listening, a coach and GM should look at every player regardless of whether they played for the cowboys or have a certain size or anything else

Chinese food is not healthy
White rice is all starch, no nutrients. All the vitamins are stripped out processing brown rice into white rice.
Soy sauce, too high in salt.
Sweet and sour is nothing but ketchup, vinager, sugar and soy.
All their sauces are mostly preservatives, corn starch and sugar, mainly junk food.
Posted by: Chongo | August 01, 2011 at 06:36 PM
The most popular restaurant in china is Kentucky Fried Chicken. Deep fried chicken and artificial mashed potatoes with fake gravy. The chinese have no refined taste for food. Just junk.

Newman, Ross isnt flipping out right now because he docent want them to spend money. As I've said earlier, any owner would be out of his mind with the signings the FO has made, IF he was serious about winning. Ross is pissed he bought this team when he did and has said so. He's not making money and he's pissed about that. Just look at the signings and the money they have left. Unreal isn't it?
Posted by: jrljr2 | August 01, 2011 at 06:42 PM
JT will retire a Dolphin, as it should be, it was the Dolphins organization that turned their backs on him. Not the other way around, I think he can still contribute.

ireland keeps missing the target!
Posted by: budtki | August 01, 2011 at 06:45 PM
ITC, if you are happy with what they've done so far, that's your prerogative. I can't say you're right or wrong and I'm certainly not going to berate you for your opinion. I will still say that of all the guys the FO has signed, there were guys that were one or two levels better available. Why do they always go the bargain, less talented route? Just curious your take. If you say they are saving money for a QB, that's a good point, but they've had plenty of money to sign other talented guys. Because right now, even Marino wouldn't be enough to get them over the hump in the AFC East. Not with all the holes at Oline, TE, WR, RB, and safety.

The NFL is a business like every other business. Corporations cut loyal, quality employees in droves any time it will help the companies bottom line. There is no loyalty, not in business, not in the NFL. Business is cold.
Posted by: corp. | August 01, 2011 at 06:48 PM
I don't know who the hell think's JT is a LB, but he was drafted as and played his whole career as a DE.Later in the 3-4 they had him drop back and they moved him around, but he's still a DE not a LB.
Posted by: Phin4Life | August 01, 2011 at 06:54 PM
Corp. You're right! No loyalty, I saw what they did to Shula and Marino. Still bothers me, Zach Thomas too...shame!
Posted by: redsky | August 01, 2011 at 06:56 PM
Budtki, "Ireland keeps missing the target!" You're right, seems like he's taking a shotgun approach, hoping one pellet of many will hit the target!
Probably also why his wife has hemorrhoids, missing the target applies to all facets of life.
Posted by: redsky | August 01, 2011 at 07:02 PM
simple math:
the offense can NOT score many points.
a new QB will not be as effective as a stud corner.
a stud corner will shore up the defense, keep points off the boared.
the offense can NOT score many points.
a new QB will NOT out throw tom brady.
a complete defense and secondary can pitch a shut-out!
a new QB is like 1 cork to a bucket with 5 holes.
a stud corner will eliminate the weak link in a chain that belicheat is bound to exploit.
what good is a defense that plays good all game but will eventually give up a 40 TD bomb and loose?? answer: no good, the result will be the same as a terrible defense that looses by 50 points. da. do the math!!!
Posted by: budtki | August 01, 2011 at 07:08 PM
Man, JT is 6'6" and just by raising his arms in a coverage zone he can kill that play. Very athletic, too, can come up with a pick.

Since we can't get it together on offense, let's go ahead and load up on the defense side of the ball.
Let's make it the #1 defense.
Let's make the rest of the NFL hate having to play the Dolphins because of our #1 defense.
Just a thought.
