Jason Taylor speaks plus team cuts Tim Dobbins

Jason Taylor was just introduced to the South Florida media as the Miami Dolphins', er, newest addition.

"This is home," said Taylor, wearing aqua shorts and a Dolphins shirt. "There’s a very familiar peace about being here. It fits."

This is Taylor's third stint with the Dolphins.

"I do not anticipate leaving and having to go away and come back again," Taylor said.

Taylor said he didn't really expect to return for this stint. But after the Jets called him at "10:01 AM" on Tuesday, the first day teams were allowed to speak to unrestricted free agents, he was surprised to get a text from Dolphins coach Tony Sparano about an hour later.

Then he got a call from Jeff Ireland.

And then he got comfortable with the idea of returning to the team.

"Because of the way things happened last year I thought that chapter in my life may have closed and we moved on," Taylor said.

Of the New York experience, he said, "I enjoyed it. I was open to going back this year. And if you had asked me a year ago if the Dolphins would ever have any interest, I would have said, ‘No.’ I thought the Dolphins had moved on."

Taylor will be a reserve for the Dolphins.

"I understand how old I am and how long I’ve played this game," he said. "I understand there’s a lot of miles. It’s like the old saying, I’ll scratch where it itches."

It only itches, Taylor admitted, because Bill Parcells is no longer with the Dolphins. He and Taylor didn't exactly see eye-to-eye.

"We can address the elephant in the room," Taylor said. "Do I honestly think I’d be here if Bill was here? No."

So much for that.

The Dolphins are not exactly standing still with their LB corps. They have terminated the contract of ILB Tim Dobbins and signed undrafted rookie linebacker Mark Masterson.

Dobbins had possibly gotten too expensive to keep while still playing primarily as a backup and on special teams. You pay at veteran like Taylor a $910,000 minimum salary, you have to make room for the addition.

[Update: OT Vernon Carey is not present at this evening's practice. I do not currently have a reason why.]

[Update 2: The Dolphins say Carey was simply given a night off by coach Tony Sparano for personal reasons.]

Andy,

I'd like to see the Dolphins run a Eagle's/Packers style modern passing offense.

Does Reid have any staff that look ready to make a move to HC?

...I do not get to see what happens at practice so perhaps what I am about to write is completley off base. I'm just going off what I have read on other sites, and from a few who have attended.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that if the Dolphins do end up aquiring Orton, that Henne is going to get outright released. Before anyone gets to upset here is why. The deal looks at this point stuck in limbo. If the reports are true, and Henne has digressed to the point we have to reach out for Orton. Where is the room for him. If we do end up making this deal. It will be Hennes performance during these sessions that force the FO to do so. This isn't a case of a fan that has no love for Henne(in fact I have been in his corner all offseason, thinking this is his last shot..prove it or lose it)

If we have to make the move. It is out of neccesity. and IMO Henne should just be let go. Time to move on, nothing to see here. By all reports. Nothing has changed. Like I said, I haven't seen anything for myself, so perhaps this is a reach. But what would be the reason to keep him here? At some point if his performance dictates a move. It should be time to just cut the cord and move on.

Now I really hope for the sake of this franchise. Henne can show some improvement that convinces the FO that the move in not neccessary. Orton will no doubt come at a steep price, and probably include a player, and a mid to high draft pick. Something that we desperatley need. But, and a big what if here. If we cannot get competant play from the quarterback. This is a price we will have to pay... BTW, Jason Taylor? another sweet move. I'm sure this thrills Armando.

DD,

The fanbase in the city of Miami itself have totally lost faith in Henne. Many are ready to string him and run him out of town.

Henne really hasnt a clue as to really how pissed the city of Miami itself, fans are at him for going 0-8 at home in 2010. Henne really doesnt have a firm grasp just how vile the fans in Miami will become if he doesnt straighten out his act in a hurry.

YES

I am now officially the biggest douchebag on this blog

Hear me whine and biatch all year long

DyingBreed, we only went 1-7 at home! Give Henne a chance. We still have a ton of Henne jerseys in stock, and need to sell them before cutting him!

Love,

Jeff

The FO moves are perplexing and they are certainly not what I wanted, but they are consistent with the bifecta approach.

They are looking for that gem economy player. The prefer players they have a personal relationship with and Sparano’s locker room is protected from any attitude, BM aside.

My man you hit right in the middle of the target...you know here in Mex we have that problem in soccer league... the coaches have his own players comitee and wherever the coach goes they go, but they have to pay a % to the coach... its a mafia... i tough the NFL was different, but this dallas affair makes me wonder...

Miami takes thier football very seriously. Even if a high schoolplayer makes a boneheade play that causes his team to lose. Often they have to get police esorts to arrive safely at home. This is high school football.

I try to be optimistic, but DAMN!

This FO makes it impossible. I got hooked on the Fins as a 10 year old when they were Perfect, then back-to-back champions. This mess makes me want to puke, I am SO sad to say.

WOW.......

the GOD FATHER MOVIE IS ON AMAC .

Don't be sad Finsfan72. You still have a good 30-40 years left to see the Dolphins try to win a championship. Have patience!

kris,

Going 1-7 at home feels no different than 1-8. LOL...

Anything can still happen, but really doesn't look like the Orton thing is going to happen. All reports are he is way out playing Tebow in practices.

If by some chance they can get Orton, my take is that I don't see how they keep them both. Orton is not going to sign anywhere he isn't guaranteed to start from the get go, and if they are bringing him it, it really looks like it will be goodbye Henne.

We all know that the FO are idiots and why do they keep getting the boys rejects! But JT has always been a good guy and I welcome him back, we all know that we AREN'T going to get a QB until next years draft, I live in NC and at least I might have my second favorite team win b/c the fins arent going to this year and won't until they get a good coach and GM, this has become a Ross party and NOT A FOOTBALL TEAM!!!

Dying..I think that it will be the fate for Henne should we be backed into a corner to make a deal. It may not be fair, it may not be cheap, and it will sure cost more then we want to spend. But at some point enough has to be enough. I sure hope that it doesn't come down to this. But if it does the move would be understandable. If the FO doesn't think that Henne gives us a chance to win he is gone. I don't see them releasing Matt Moore in this scenario, nor do I think they would cut Devlin, who by all accounts has looked pretty good. This is the last stand for Henne, and if out of pure desperation a move has to made. It will be his head on the chopping block. IMO

1-7 AT HOME...IT'S DISGRACE ON NOLAN THE DC AND OUT TEAM DEFENSE ,,,,,,,,,,

I'm sure the "WE WANT ORTON" chants are going to do wonders for Henne's confidence. This is a disaster.

finsfan,

I think Henne was caught chanting with them.

FINSFAN72 IS TRYING TO START TROUBLE BUT HENNE HAS ALL THE CONFIDENCE IN THE WORLD .......

JT,,,,MY FOOT .......

Somhat that makes sense - fianlly!!

Darryl,
Release henne? no way. He can be traded and if orton starts we need someone to back him up. I don't like the idea of releasing henne for nothing. he won 7 games last year. He has trade value

JT can come in and still pressure the QB. Good move for young players and in the locker room. LOVE IT!! 45 YR DOLFAN

A week ago I thought the "suck for Luck" idea was ridiculous. But I'm starting to come around....

finsfan72,

Im glad the fans booed Henne at practice tonight. For some reason it seems the serious of which the city of Miami takes over the Dolphins just hasnt been getting thru to Henne.

No qb in fins history has been treated as Henne will be in the city of Miami if:

A. Henne doesnt very soon get his head out of his a*ss.

B. Ireland/Sparano doesnt get rid of him.

If this continues Henne wont be able to get served at Burger King until every single other customer that comes thru that door is served first. Even the bums.

We MUST sell our merchandise !!!!

You MUST listen to and enjoy the MUSIC at home Games

You MUST forget that our request to play no home games in daylight in September has caused the WORST SCHEDULE IN DOLPHINS HISTORY!

You MUST BUY SEASON TICKETS so that you can be entertained by EVERYTHING EXCEPT FOOTBALL!!!

...and you MUST remember that this guy who has an adequate supply of money wants to keep playing this cruel game with you to see how many of YOUR DOLLARS he can convince you to give him.

FIX THE DAMM OFFENSE!!!!!!!!

Boulderfin,

Henne's being outplayed by a udfa, do you really believe any other team would be willing to give up even a 7th rd'er once they hear that?

Everyone is going to see soon enough that Henne is no different now than he was in December, and it wasn't all Henning.

Henning knew Hennes limitations, he just never figured out Henne's strengths.

THE BEST PART OF THE GOD FATHER WHEN AL PACINO GOES TO VEGAS TO MEET (( MO GREEN ))........

Henne seems to be sinking fast. I was rooting for him to get it together-NO. I was rooting for VY-NO. I was even thinking, Ok, Orton would be an improvement-NO.

But on the positive side Pat Devlin projected to be the next Tom Brady!

Boulder...My opinion may seem rash. But really would Henne have any trade value? McNabb was traded for 6th round picks. My point being that IF..and this is a big IF. Henne doesn't instill confidence that we can move forward with him, and we have to make some deal(that would end up with us most likely taking it in the shorts) The only thing to do would be to cut him. If it came down to this, and again this is the worst case scenario. What GM in their right mind would give anything for Henne? Better players have been released before. Also, the point that he won some games for us is true. But for me, it was his play the last half of the year that sticks out more then the games he contributed in. Sure you could argue that this is shortsighted, and convenient for my argument. But I think this is what the FO is looking at as well. If Henne had played better, or shown anything in the second half of the year. I don't think we are having this discussion.

YOU SINKING FAST MR FINSFAN72 W/YOUR CRAPY POSTS .

Maybe somebody should put a horse head in Ross' bed...

ALoco-

why the hatred?

ALFREDO ,

(( YOU R MY OLDER BROTHER AND I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH BUT DON'T EVER TAKE A SIDE AGAINST THE FAMILY ,EVER)))))))))))))))))))))))))

Aloco, I'd have to disagree, the best part is either the horse head or when michael turns BA and kills the police cheif and the dam Turk

Some players have the 'IT' factor. The opposite of the IT factor is the 'Henne' factor.

FINFANS72.........TPU THE ONE WHO STARTED THE HATRED ON HENNE....BE NICE TO HIM FOR A CHANGE ............ I REALLY LIKE YOUR POST ECXPET THE ONES THAT HATE HENNE .

Fredo is his name btw

Lil Bro Michael-
I love the family with all my heart, but the family has forsaken me- again!

DD,

Henne shows some ability to move a team downfield. His greatest downfall seem to be the money moments. He struggled to get into the endzone, get crucial first downs to milk the clock away, total flop in the 2 minute offense, and I could name a few other we well know.

Just having the ability to occassionally move your team up and down the playing does not a qb it makes. In nearly totally failed in every money moment presented him.

FIN86.............. I AGREE WITH YOU IN PART BUT THE MO GREEN 3 MINUTES WERE OUT OF THIS WORLD FRM THE MOMENT MO GREEN STRTED TALKING .

I wasn't at practice booing him, calling for Orton...that was 10,000 of my family members.

And if he played worth a F^ck, we'd all love him.

...Dying just a heads up. Looks like the Phins have their eye on another saftey from Montana. According to the news here. The Phins have contacted Eric Stoll(according to his agent) Stoll was a captain last year, and starting free saftey. He was only a 1 year starter playing behind Colt Andersen(Philly) and Shann Shillenger(Atlanta)..He unlike Wilson would be an extreme longshot to even make the practice squad. He did run down Tawain Jones last year. Probably his highlight play. To be fair, this is from the same news that said Lex was cut, or going to be cut.(Hilliards name wasn't on thr active roster. Something to do with him not being able to practice until Tuesday)

FINFAN72.......... PEACE TO YOU AND ALL YOUR FAMILY ,MY GOD BLESS YOU ;;;;;;;NO THING BUT LOVE ................

Hennes a complete failure in money moments!

Capeesh, LOCO?

DD...... FINS LOVE PLAYERS WHO ARE FROM THE RED NECK ZONE .THEY R CHEAP,DUMB AND UNEDUCATED ........

Right back at ya, LOC

Henne needs to get his head outta his ace, I really don't know if he can turn it around, I think hes destine to be a career backup now unless something magically clicks.. Idk bout u all but I think the fins have the talent to do big things I just don't know if Henne will be part of it.. Guess we will see this year

WHY I FEEL ARMANDO IS JT BUS BOY .......

DD,

I hear Jimmy Wilson was looked as a 1st-2nd rd draft pick before the legal troubles. Thus far he leads our practice with 3 picks.

I posted today if this continues, it could be Jimmy Wilson not Reshad Jones who unseats Clemons as starting fs. Minus the legalities we practically got a 1st-2nd rd calibre safety for a 7th rd pick.

This kid may become one of our camp's greatest surprises. GO Grizzlies!!!

..Yeah. Henne would be all world if the game was played from 20 yard line, to field goal range. If the game ended before the 4th quarter we would have a star...

We all know, and have on occasion passed the blame around to plenty of individuals. Sure somw of the playcalling was suspect. But, in the end it does come down to the player being able to overcome some of the deficiencies that a coach, or reciever, or lineman may display. Especially at the quarterback position. Show something! Henne had a few moments last year that convinced me that in the right situation he could be efficient enough to lead this team. And maybe he still can. My whole point was based on the reports from camp. There hasn't been any reports where it reads"Henne lighting it up" or " A new Chad Henne, that looks the part of a quarterback fighting for his Miami Dolphin life"..Just the opposite. It is concerning to say the least.

Right now Henne doesnt even look like a good 3rd string backup qb.

henne is done... he didnt make it with las year pressure, he wont with THIS kind of pressure... miami has to do somthing ´cause right now is moore´s off. ... after tonight hennes little confidence is gone and he´s no more an option... right now Denver has the upper hand

When the recievers say how much the QB has stepped up during the offseason, or say what a great job he did getting everyone together, its a warning sign. Wishful thinking. You never hear that about a good QB, only a guy you feel sorry for.

DD,

When reports coming out camp udfa Devlin is the best looking qb in camp. Fans rightfully should feel sqeemish over Henne.

He doesnt have to look super but it appears he regressing right before our eyes the first week of camp. Im on the pepto right now thinking about it.

Aloco..Stoll was an academic All American. But your right. Most Rednecks are pretty dumb. no matter where they are from.

Dying..Actually the story was about Wilson, and how he has played pretty well so far this camp. Suprising to me he has benn playing nickel corner, not saftey. Stoll was just mentioned at the end. The story said that the Phins were one of the teams interested in him... What ever happened to Kendrick Burney? has he been picked up?

Henne sucks! Henne Sucks!
Come buy your Dolphin season tickets so you can chant Henne sucks! with your fellow fans.

Love,

Jeff

P.S. We don't care. Our good defense guarantees 7 wins even if Henne sucks.

www.dealhomer.com

As it stands right now, no way can we go into the season with Hennes and Matt Moore backing him up. Vernon Carey could be the opening day starter at LT too. It could get very ugly the first game against New England.

Hell, the Pats defense may score 35pts against our offense. scares hell out of me.
