Limited practices, no offseason work is no excuse

First some news: The Dolphins have agreed to contract terms with free agent linebacker Marvin Mitchell and are expected to have him in the fold for practice Monday once he passes his physical, an NFL source said Sunday evening. Mitchell is primarily a reserve with four years experience in New Orleans. He was a seventh-round pick of the Saints in 2007.

On another front, there is no question the early part of this NFL season will provide something of an advantage for teams that not only have kept their head coaches from 2010 employed but also their coordinators.

The point is no offseason camps or OTA days coupled with limited work during training camp (no double-session practices) works against team installing new schemes on offense or defense and really, really works against teams that are installing both a new offense and defense and working under a new head coach.

The Dolphins kept coach Tony Sparano for this season so that is good on the continuity front. They are playing their second season under defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and his scheme so that is good also. However, the offense under new coordinator Brian Daboll is new

And that is a challenge.

The truth is that puts the Dolphins' offense behind division rivals New York, New England and even Buffalo because all three of those are running the same offense this year as they did a year ago.

We all have to understand and accept that. The Miami offense is going to be behind the rest of the division for a while.

Now, this is something you don't have to accept:

The Dolphins are getting as much work this training camp as any other NFL team and certainly no less than any other NFL team. So the excuse that poor play is a product of limited practice time is bogus because other teams, including ones that are playing well, are practicing the same amount.

It's like folks that come out of a game complaining about heat or rain or snow as the reason they did not perform. It's hot for both teams. It's raining or snowing on everybody. The excuse rings hollow.

Also, those excusing Chad Henne for not looking particularly sharp the other night need to stop. I don't want to hear Henne struggled because the offense is new to him. The truth is he has admitted to having the playbook since February.

So 4 of 8 for 77 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs is not good. And it's especially not good compared to other quarterbacks who entered Week 1 of the preseason in similar tough situations.

Kevin Kolb, traded to Arizona from Philadelphia, was among those players who could not practice with his new teammates until the new collective bargaining agreement was reached. So he missed the first week of practice. He completed 4 of 7 passes for 68 yards without a TD or INT.

Cleveland quarterback Colt McCoy, working under a new head coach, in a new offensive system, working against Green Bay's starting defense, working with a lineup that doesn't necessarily look star-studded, completed 9 of 10 passes for 135 yards with 1 TD and 0 INTs.

Jacksonville's Blaine Gabbert completed 9 of 16 passes for 85 yards with neither a TD nor an INT. He's a rookie. He got his playbook three weeks ago. He was facing New England's first-team defense. He didn't look great but neither did turn the ball over.

I'm not saying Gabbert and McCoy are better than Henne or anyone else. I am saying that they are facing similar difficulties, and in some cases, a more difficult situation than Henne. And they're performing.

So I don't want to hear about a limited number of practices being the reason one guy or one unit is struggling. Everyone else in the NFL has similar issues.

Deal with it. Overcome.

[Blog note: The Dolphins practice at 11 a.m. Monday. I'll be here for a live practice blog. Join me then.]

Neither of the them are better than Henne, Henne is our best option, other than Orton, for money/draft pick sake and the teams sake. Matt Moore is a decent backup,

I say we all boycott Armando's blog and let the troll plants continue to have conversations with themselves.

Armando! Thank You! I've been screaming this point all along. The point is this...you can dump a truckload of sugar on henne's head, (sugar coat it any way you want to), and Henne still sucks. I really am disappointed that our FO failed to bring in a QB and TE to compete with Henne...or a TE to compete with Slow stone hands Fasano...it hurts deeply. I can't even fathom why they didn't work out at least a few guys.. Doesn't make any sense

Armando, you should call your show, "Armando - el enemigo". Boy do you like to stir the pot! By the way, all those fans shouting for "Orton," did you see his stats for his pre-season game? Bet you the Broncos fans are chanting, "Tibow". Keep up the good negative vibes, Armando. You were born for it, or bored with it, one of the two.

I'm glad you shined a light on this Armando because when I saw Colt McCoys stats that's immediately what I thought. That him and some others were dealing with a new system and seemed to go out and look relatively sharp for a couple of series of pre season action. Henne on the other hand comes out with "something to prove" and EVERY reason imaginable to be solid if not great and he couldn't do it! He couldn't even start to show his doubters that they're wrong. Where is the anger or the pride, the chip on the shoulder after being told we need a better QB or better play from the one we have.

If we are in ten draft spots after this season the Phins should do whatever is necessary to move up and select Luck. Everyone should be expendable to make it happen period. He will be the highest rated QB coming out of the draft since elway. That's including Peyton and Marino. Not saying he'll be as good as them but he'll be viewed as the most complete to come out since elway. If Henne doesn't perform that is...

The people yelling Orton! Orton! are the same people who were crying when we didn't draft Brady Quinn with our top draft pick in the Cam era.

Personally, I'd like to see Brian Griese get a workout with the team, but he, too, was run out by fair-weather fans. His first pass as a Miami Dolphin was a touchdown. He was the passing leader in 2000 with 19 TD's and only 4 Ints. Several years later he completed nearly 70% of his passes. But people still ran him out on a rail.

I don't know what I'm trying to say, except that panicking because of the first exhibition game (which was a win, by the way, against a team who was undefeated in their home stadium last year) seems a little silly at this point.

Rob, that win was solidified by people that won't be on the field much against people that won't be on the field much. Had this been a real game we would have gotten killed unless we would have made a tremendous comeback against the same defense that stopped us to begin with. The only excuse I give them and it is true is that our best three offensive players didn't play.

This coach should be fired for not giving moore a fair chance to win starting job. Hate to say it. I hope henne get injured and early. Anyone remember tom brady first year.sb year. It would never happend if drew bledsoe didnt get hurt. Henne sucks. He will.continue to brake fans heart, because he fails you at the worst possible time.

Did any one see Wynwood Art Walk much more entertaining then anything Dennys sorry Henne had to show this Friday

Mando, you are one of the worst writers and football guys I've ever read. I guess the herald is just hiring anyone nowadays

Armando there you go again being a hater after one preseason game. Do you ever have anything remotely good to say about anything. Do you like pie? How about a steak? Think you could find something positive to say about your wife or girlfriend? You have no idea of what Henne could have done say if he had 5 more attempts. You have this crazy idea that this game is won and lost by one player on the field. ITS CALLED A TEAM SPORT MORON! I am just starting to enjoy Flame you... Your only skill is place words to hate on Henne. Can you not think of anything else to write about? Two days in a row Henne hating. Whats your article tomorrow about, oh wait let me guess, Henne Hating.... You do write for the Miami Herald right? Are you a Jets Fan? Do you dream of Mark Sanchez coming to tuck you in at night.

Armando

Kudos for a brutally honest post. Some fans think its their job to support a player vastly underperfoming those with less experience and less favorable conditions than him.

We are going to surprise all this season! Mark my words!

Henne is a typical YOUNG QB (consistently inconsistent, as Armando puts it). Most start to blossom in their 3rd year. I just hope he does it in a dolphin uniform before some of you run him out of town and he stars for NE or NY. If the new OC spreads it out and exploits mismatches, Henne could prove his worth and prove that last years offensive woes wasn't all on his shoulders. Last year when the dolphins went with two wideouts, Henne's passer rating was 67. with 3 wideouts, it was 79, and with 4 or more wideouts it was at 83. This shows he just may be that next gun slanger that we've been looking for if given the chance and put into the right situation. Which wasn't often last year. Try to support him and you never know what that might do for a Young persons confidence.
And some of you are putting too much into this 1st PRESEASON game. Come on, they've only been at it for 2 weeks. I can remember when Dallas went 0-5 in the preseason and many thought they looked awful, but they went to the Super Bowl. And how many teams have looked good in the preseason then stumbled in the regular season?
Can the so called fans just give their team a chance and stop with all the negativity (including you Armando)!

I'd like to know why Armando hasnt been offered an NFL coaching job since he's spool much smarter than everyone else. You are such a douchebag midget dude. Did you also notice we couldn't run the ball and gave up big plays on D?

Big concern, 3/5th's of our offensive line has changed. Only Long and Cognito will be the same players at the same position as last year. It's going to take more than a few weeks for them to gel, and Sparano is still fidgeting with it.

I see a lot of pressure and a lot of sacks and a very slow start.

Just now watched the Atlanta game and thought it looked a lot like a glorified practice. I will say Dolphins look a lot quicker on special teams and more athletic in general. I will wait to pass judgement at this time. Every game I saw looked sloppy and raw. The KC Chiefs looked like crap and they made the playoffs last season. Dallas and Denver was just the same practice mode. Come down off the ledge people it was one meaningless pre-season game.

Miami 28
Atl 23

ps. we didn't sustain any injury worth note.

Hope the pre-season ends without the meatwagon carting off any of our players.

Gotta save that buckboard space for the bleating sheep fanbase...

Rob, Rezar and Scooter get the right idea, and are objective. True fans...

@bennett3dolfan
I had to say Kudos Brotha. Armando is nothing but negativity.. I don't think the man has a Positive side at all. I think he would criticize his mother's cook.

sparano and all the coaches should have been fired when i heard they were calling mike smith and ask to take it easy... are you kidding me? you think rex ryan would have done that? hell no. our coaching staff needs to show some desperation and attitude.. their jobs are on the line and if it was me id be wanting to win every game even preseason.. i live in new orleans and they have a EARN IT attitude. as much as i hate the saints we cant hold the bucket they crap in. henne didnt earn anything and if he's gonna be handed the starting job he stays in the game till he proves hes worthy even if it means he plays the whole game. EARN IT DUDE

its about time we get a player from a winning organization.... (that kills me to say)instead of all the rejects from dallas. as i recall they had a worse record than us. maybe we should try getting a couple more saints players so we can change the attitude of this team.

Henne ain't going to any other team and all of a sudden be great..he simply doesn't have that passion and built in skills that cannot be taught...he will never amount to been a decent QB..he doesn't have that "it" factor. Sure he can gun a ball...but that doesn't mean diddly squat. Poor decisions, slow reader of coverages, no passion, crappy instincts..ect...the bad list keeps running along...

Dolphins in Depth Blog football thoughts= 5
Dolphins in Depth Blog useless thoughts= Mando does not care as long as his blog gets as many posts as possible. How about it Armando. If this was a real Dolphins blog it would not be cluttered by stupidity and worthless posts. Persons who post would actually post about the topic and not who screwed whose mother or father or the neighbors cat. No one cares. You have about ten or so that post just to post and think they are really funny. They are. In a way that is degrading and insulting towards thoughtful folks who actually want to communicate above a first grade level. You should be the one who cleans house of this mess.It really has got to stop.

What I don't like about Henne is that coaches have been telling him since college not to stare down receivers. he has been in the league for 4 years now. everybody from sparano to penintong has told him that, and he keeps doing it. After years of knowing he is not supposed to. He is just not good period. he can't be. he doesn't learn. He makes the same mistakes over and over and over for years.... Why is people still thinking that somehow overnight he is gonna become a great qb?

See here is the thing. Teams that are installing a new system is playing catch up because time was loss to the lock out. It was not only Henne who had a bad performance, it was the entire offense that had a bad performance. Teams such as the Pats, Saints, Falcons...etc have played together for awhile, they don't need as much time to get players up too speed. It is just common sense and for a sports writer not to get that is beyond me.

Sooo... Colt McCoy goes 9 of 10 for 100 yards. New offensive coordinator new system, less experience and less to work with. What was the difference between his hardship and hennes?

Couldn't agree more, 'mando. Only God knows if Henne magically flourishes later on this season, but the way things look now, Moore needs to be given every shot at an EVEN competition.
Why are so many people worked up that a sports writer is criticizing a poor(really, really poor) performance by a highly paid athlete? We all have to keep our eyes open, or as we pick our "I love the Dolphins" daisies, that rumbling we hear in the distance will be the Jets and Pats running away from
us.

Great article armando. All these losers who are constantly riding hennes jock is sickening. Most 3rd year qbs this and that bs. The guy sucks and thats the plain truth. Moore is the better fit, period. Stick with henne and see where that gets them, another losing season.

USA Today Football magazines says Beasts of the East...There is Brady,Sanchez and Bills QB.....on cover!!!!!!!!
NUTHIN about Dolphins!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????

So Moore has a "decent" outing and all the sudden he's a better fit. He is a nice #2 backup, but not better than Henne. Check the history.I think some people have been listening to way too much negativity. If Henne does prove to be the right QB, don't all of you decide to jump on the bandwagon!

yeah, whatever. nobody really is making excuses. we understand henne screwed up once again. but hey, we scored 21 points.

were behind buffalo then? they scored 3.

Fact is always the same, its preseason and the games dont count!

Omar----> HeHATEhenne 1

Mando----> HeHATEhenne 2

and another point hehatehenne2 and that is some teams game plan (like atlanta and julio down by the schoolyard)to show off their goods to the homecrowd.

Some teams are really stupid running end arounds showing off their star players in preseason giving the enemy some knowledge before the season even starts.

But hehatehenne2, lets just see what week 2 instills shall we? like the teams who now are on the road and dont game plan or play vanilla and try not to get guys injured. okie dokie?

What we did in game 1 is good stuff minus really 3 plays. It was like a practice. did you not listen to the man mando! or are you the man! oh yeah, mando the man!

whats the #1 pis*er watching chad henne?

those bonehead ints (d bess@falcons) HE HAS TO STOP THOSE, HAS TO

(some say he can, some say he can't)

ok, remember when chad henne looked like he was the real deal throwing deep to t ginn against the jets - 48y td pass (well go look and remember how good that felt)then go look at

henne- hartline@falcons= same play

bottom line with 3 speedy receivers (gates, hartline, marshall, [well 1 quick and 2 pretty quick])that can all get deep we have a much better chance of stretching the field this year

if we can stretch the field early, then the intermediate throws get more space and the run game gets 1 less db in the box, while giving ck downs yac room also

instead of being run first (sparano's natural philosophy) we will be going with daboll's aggressive pass to run by stretching field early

expect sparano to start mumbling about this before october

(expect him not to mention that daboll also likes to have a 2 te set with 2 te's that can play football, we currently have half a te on our roster)

come on o-line get it together

I'm baffled by people still defending Henne. It's akin to hiring a contractor to work on your house. They do a horrible job but you say "well they're inexperienced. I'll rehire them since they know what they did wrong and are bound to be better." Then they burn your house down but you say "Everyone makes mistakes and it's too much effort to hire someone else". How do you think they'll perform next time?

Fact: Henne struggles to be mediocre. He's never savvy, and his moments of mediocrity only seem promising relative to the multitude of moments that he's awful.

You write like Henne plays QB!

I am willing to cut them some slack it is only the first preseason game, I have been one of the ones on here who wanted them to replace Henne with Orton or somebody that is a proven player and it didn't happen. Maybe Henne will develop this year, we have to hope so because that is who they are going with period, it is their future and they are betting on Henne I hope they are right.

Amen Mando! They should rename us the Miami Excuses. Because that's all I've been hearing for the last....I can't even remember. No more excuses. No more time. No more rebuilding. No more "feed the wolf" propaganda and then 1 home win. Put up or shut up. Win now, or get fired.

Good job generating conversation Armando because that's all it is. I would hope he (Henne) would have something to build upon. I was more impressed that after those interceptions he went out and it was business as usual. Anyone with football knowledge could see that this is a timing offense, unlike last year. Henne could be more polished and more confident if that gimmick of a wildcat wasn't introduced. I have confidence that with more playmakers and a defense that's at least top five, Henne will surprise his critics and lead the dolphins to a better record than Sanchise will with the Jets.

ARMANDO

YOU NEVER TELL THE WHOLE TRUTH.

I AGREE THAT THERE'S NO EXCUSES.

BUT THAT'S ABOUT IT.

INT OFF FASANO'S CHEST.

FASANO SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THE BALL THAT'S WHAT HE GETS PAID FOR.

YOU WANT TO BLAME CHAD FINE. YOUR CHOICE.

INT ON THE PASS TO BESS.

I JUST THINK THAT WAS A GREAT PICK.

IT HAPPENS THE D GET PAID TO PLAY ALSO.

BUT IS THAT ALL YOU GOT.

ARMANDO, ARMANDO, AND HIS COLT FOLLOWERS.

4 COMPLETED FOR 77 YARDS.

THAT'S A 17 YARD AVERAGE.

THEN THE OTHER QBS YOU NAMED DIDIN'T HAVE A TD.

I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE POINT WAS TO SCORE.

MY BAD.

NEW ENGLAND DIDN'T PLAY THIER FIRST STRING.

DID YOU SEE THAT UGLY DEEP PASS KEVIN KOLB THREW?

UNDER THROWN AND THE CB WAS RIGHT THERE.

HOWEVER LARRY FITZGERALD MADE A GREAT CATCH.

SO I GUESS YOU ADDED THAT PASS TO KEVINS NUMBERS EVEN THOUGH THAT WAS ALL LARRY ANY KOLB THREW UP A PASS FOR GRABS.

OK FINE.

OH THINKING ABOUT LARRY.

I GUESS I SHOULD THINK OF OUR MAJOR WIDEOUT.

WHAT'S HIS NAME?

I DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT HIM THIS WEEKEND.

I FORGOT HIS NAME. UMMM UMMM.

FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CAN'T REMEMBER.

HARTLINE? NO. BESS? NO. GATES? NO. FASA? NO. WALLACE? NO. MOORE?

OH WELL THERE'S SOME PEOPLE MISSING.

BEING THAT YOU ARE THE MIGHTY KNOWING ARMANDO MAYBE YOU'RE RIGHT.

HE CAN THROW THE BALL WITHOUT ANY TDs AND WE CAN WIN.

I GUESS YOU KNOW MORE ABOUT FOOTBALL THAN EVERYBODY ELSE.

SO YOU ARE ALREADY KNOW?

P.S

WHAT QB NEVER THREW A PICK IN HIS ENTIRE NFL CAREER?

ANSWER SERGI BECAUSE HE NEVER PLAYED A DOWN BACKING UP PAYTON.

OR ARMANDO.

whats frustrating about henne is that he often calls for max protect which limits his options downfield. also that short passes become an adventure like this past week ie. bess has to lay out with a one handed grab for a 3 yd pass. the pass to fasano was behind him and results in a turnover. lack of touch and accuracy must improve. another year with no QB competition which doesnt help henne.

justin - had to turn the volume down coz u were coming through so loud and clear, good on u for keeping the faith!

i'm not sure its gonna happen without better ol-ine and a decent running game (no i won't be making excuses for him if they don't turn up - he'll have to perform well with or without them, but they would help him enormously) but i sooooo want to see henne silence his critics by finally playing consistently well and kicking some afc east butt

Tough love, I love it... Been thinking this ever since I started watching these preseason games... Gonna have faith though because as a Dolphins fan, what else do we have now-a-days (if it wasn't for Long and Wake I'd kill myself)... but our F.O. needs some work.... As Charles Barkley would say "their work has been turible"...

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO HENNE!!!! YOU SUCK!!!!!!

Mando, All respect my friend.

I atched the game. The only thing you can pin on henne was the 2nd int. I have no plue how he throws that pass so poorly.

All else? Henne got lit up twice by the D, He did not get sacked, moved out of a loss sack, to throw off balance hit a recieer in the hands going to the ground and the receiver could not hold on.

Fasano's int was a fricken joke, anyone blaming Henne for that is nuts, and that is a shot at you Mando because on the live blog I read that cursing Henne. then I see the replay and it goes through Fasano's hands hits him in the face then int'd. ANY pass catching player catches that ball.

Henne, scrambled for a 1st down, tuck and run, half of the haters said he is mobile, he saved us from 3 negative plays with his feel.

I mean, this crap is getting ridiculous. Is it bag on Henne for the hell of it? Please only bag on him when he deserves it. that second int sucked! and he needs to stop those bone head throws.

Beyond that Henne looked pretty solid, had command. It is frustrating having to post this, because anyone with eyes could see what I am expolaining, unless you just HATE the guy.

Sorry Justin, you made my points before I did.

I tried to ignore all comments because it seems this blog is more for Haters than fans.

You hit the nail on the head with a lot of your post.

this is getting over the top ridicoulous the ridicule Henne is getting constantly.

When he deserves it, I am all for it. I AM NOT A HENNE fan, but I am a dolphin fan, I am a fan of the fact that the kid works his butt off to get better and is trying to win games. If he blows it and plays terrible I will admit that, but he does not deserve to get bagged on after that game.

What burned me up about the whole situation is we sat out #1 WR and RB. Like we are a great football team or something. I understand injury but at least we should have got them out there for a series or 2 to see how they perform under the circumstances. The Oline was pathetic and the reason for the ints. If we dont find a way to protect the QB or if our QB does not learn to make quicker decisions we are doomed!!

Henne was the same ol' same ol on Friday night. He locked onto his receivers from the start of the play and never seems to get fully thru his progressions. Of course the interception on the pass to Fasano was terrible because if we are going to Henne we need to blame the receiver for not doing his job which is catching the ball. The Bess interception was a very nice pick...and the reason for that pick was Henne locking on to Bess from the start of the play.

Also, we have to give Henne credit for the passes down field, 17 yard average is very good and encouraging to me. Th erunning lanes were not there at all but we still have to give them tiime to gel. My call is that we sign O'haar, move him to center, move Pouncey to RG, and Carey back to RT. Pouncey made several bad line calls and we need experience there!

CraigM (from yesterday), I mentioned all those issues you were surprised about. I DID like the more aggressive pass game. I think we need to do more of that (only way we can compete at the highest levels of this league IMO). I also was impressed with Moore. However, I know he was playing against backups, but he had good control of the team, I like his mobility, and he made nice throws. I just don't think he can win as many games as Henne this year, just my opinion. Lastly, Odrick did impress. Again, with the backups, but still made some nice plays, jammed up the middle, brought some pressure, overall had a nice game. So those 3 things were all positives.

But to Poizen's post, I think there are still problems with Henne specifically, and the Dolphins overall. He/they STILL start slow. Poizen, who cares who's fault, but when you start a game down 17-0, no, I don't think it's accurate to say ANYONE offensively had a pretty good showing. We won't be able to come back from those deficits too many times this year, we're not that good.

Also, Henne continues to show inconsistency in his lack of ball placement. That's something we both recognized last year, doesn't look to optimistic Henne resolved that issue.

Finally, and this isn't necessarily on Henne, but the team (and oline), penalties. Miami HAS to clean that stuff up. We can't ruin drives with penalties. Again, we're not good enough to overcome that issue.

On the positive, the new Daboll more-aggressive offense seems a good fit for Henne. He's pretty good throwing the deep ball, and we should do more, not less of it. Henne's strength is his arm strength, so let him rip it more than 1 or 2 times a game, make it part of the normal offense (I think and hope that's where we're headed). And, like you said Poizen, Henne did a good job running for that first down, and a couple other times escaping pressure. I think that might have been the BEST thing to come out of his performance. He learning it's not quickness he needs, it's knowing when/where to step to get out of trouble. Very encouraging on that front.

Hopefully we'll see some improvements come next game. I'm not throwing the towel in on the season just yet. My thing is I saw a lot of mistakes I've been seeing last 2 years, and that's disappointing. I hoped some of that stuff would have been cleaned up by now, especially the slow start offense and the penalties.

Poizen,

I agree with what you said. Second INT clearly his fault, first was on Fassano. So if he goes 5 of 8 for 83 yards and 1TD and 1 INT, are guys singing a different tune?

Armando, I don't think guys are using lack of work on the offence as an excuse. Henne's a four year vet now and should be familiar with a lot of the players and life in the NFL. What I don't get is how guys can draw these conclusions after such a small sampling of work. It just tells me that guys have there minds made up on Henne and it doesn't matter what he does guys wont be happy. They don't like him and that's never going to change. Going to be a long season for some guys.

DC, I agree about the starting slow thing. It was the same in the pre-season last year, so that is alarming.

I was most dissapointed in the o-line, no Jake Long, so that is some of it. But our running game was terrible, there was not one hole to run through.

DC Dolfan,

Good comments. I wouldn't get too concerned about some of the miscues. Things never go perfect in the first preseason game. These guys are still a bit rusty, especially on offence. Not sure how much other action you saw this weekend but a lot of the teams looked the same.

And I think you are going to get your wish...I think the offence is going to be more open this season. I thin the team is going to struggle running the ball this season and is going to have to open things up. Now I know you and I have disagreed about this in the past but I think they've made a mistake here. I think they've overestimated the guys they have playing running back and I think their hand will be forced to pass. I'm not convinced they can win that way and I know you and I disagree on that. We're about to find out who's right.

One more Kudo, for Henne...

Did anyone see Henne rip Murtha for jumping on 3rd down for a false start. That was the first Brady, Manning type of ripping I have seen from Henne. Never saw that from him before.

Hey...coach said the ATL game was going to be a glorified scrimage to lower the risk of injury.
We had some great plays on special teams and our starting defense looked great.
I'm anxious to see how the team looks in game 2 this week because this is where the rubber hits the road.

Guys I agree on the starting slow thing and that has to change. But didn't Atlanta get the ball first and score on us on the opening drive? Am I wrong on that? Was it the second drive? So shouldn't we really be blaming the defence for the slow start? They didn't exactly shut Atlanta down.

Poizen,

Did you see Henne running down the field after the Hartline TD, to congratulate the receiver? And how about talking to teammates on the sideline during breaks? These have been things he's been criticized for by fans in the past. He'll get no credit from anyone on here for it but it was nice to see.

I think that by the end of this season we will have to accept that Henne is what he is and nothing more. He will have some good games (hope they are against the Jests) and just as many if not more bad games. He will make some great throws and have at least 3 or 4 bad brain farts during the course of a game. At the end of the season is will be crystal clear that Henne is not the answer and that we need a QB. Hopefully Ireland drafts one in the first round so that the next coach will have a good one to work with. This team is loaded with talent at most other positions (except Oline and TE) and the next coach will have a team ready to win as long as he can get a descent QB. Sparano went all in with Henne and it looks like he will lose that bet.
