Live blog of preseason home opener right here

Preseason football in South Florida: The constant threat of rain -- it's already showed. The humidity. The baseball infield.

Awesome!

Let's hang! There will be a live blog of the Dolphins' 2011 preseason home debut right here starting at 7:30. I'll come back in a little while and tell you which players -- other than Jake Long -- will not play tonight. I'll be interested to see whether/how long Will Allen plays tonight after missing most of the past 21 months with various injuries.

[Update: The Dolphins are announcing Jared Odrick replaces Randy Starks in the starting lineup tonight. Allen will not play.  LB Austin Spitler, G Garrett Chisolm, T Ray Willis, OL Joe Berger, T Jake Long and TE Mickey Shuler are also scratched.]

Things to look for tonight -- other than Chad Henne's performance of course?

Dolphins linebackers versus Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey. The Dolphins are going to face very good tight end play in the regular season opener against New England. They have a history of struggling against tight ends in the past. Let's see how Karlos Dansby, Kevin Burnett, and to some degree strong safety Yeremiah Bell fare tonight.

I want to see if Phillip Livas, who opened eyes last week with a 75-yard punt return, can show some consistency or if that was one-time luck. I'm not saying Livas needs to take another one to the house. I am saying he needs to show wiggle, ability to make the first guy miss consistently, and then acceleration past the second tackler. Blocking is supposed to take care of the rest.

I want to see if Matt Moore can show the spark again this week that he showed against Atlanta.

I want to see progress from center Mike Pouncey individually and then some clue that the offensive line is coming together as a group.

I want to see Anthony Fasano catch the ball rather than have the ball boink off his hands.

I want to see the front seven on defense stop the run, something they struggled to do last week at Atlanta.

And, obviously, I want to see a win. There is no substitute for victory.

ODIN... ARMANDO'S HATE FOR EVERY THING DOLPHINS IS VERY CLEAR AND HIS HATE FOR HENNE AND MARSHALL IS VERY ANNOYING .

WHERE'S ;;;;;

DB
KRIS
JOE SHOME
FIFANS72 ?????????????????????????????????????????

YJR GANG OF 4 ......

..This is what I would like to figure out. What does everyone here consider a "deep pass"?

To me it is a ball that is over 2o yards in the air. Fair? That said, where do most of the pass plays in the NFL occur? Within the range of 1-10 yards. That is where QB's make their money. I think 5 QB's last year averaged more then 8 yards per completion. In fact most quarterbacks in the league were between 6 and 7. Even the great Tom Brady only ATTEMPTED 36 passes in what I would consider the deep range. In fact over 60 percent of his completions were between 1-10 yards probably higher.

Can Henne improve on his deep touch? Of course, nobody is going to argue that point. But even the best QB. on the planet is completing short passes on the reg. If it the short pass gets the ball into our playmakers hands we have an advantage. Why try and press, and do something that we don't do well. I'm not saying don't try to get the ball doen the field. But we are really talking about a low percentage play that we may be afforded the opportunity 3-4 times a game. Gotta crawl before you can walk.

Through one quarter against Carolina, Bush had seven touches for 65 of the Dolphins’ 120 total yards.
The highlights included a 16-yard gain on a simple dump pass from Chad Henne and a 17-yard run up the middle.

Bush is my favorite no. 22 since Mercury Morris.

Having said that, I wonder if Armanda is eating CROW as he writes about Bush!

No SHAME!

odinseye

No offense, but you actually confirmed what I posted. He's barely over 50% for the preseason throwing almost exclusively checkdowns, so it's going to be a long season. We need a quarterback who can do more than throw to running backs or to receivers running shallow routes. He reminds me of Todd Marinovich. You're dumb.

Darryl,

How do you stay on such an even keel?

Excellent post my FELLOW PHIN FAN!

HENNE WON 2 PRESEASON GAMES ....................... HIS NEW CONTRACT OF 10 MILLION A YEAR IS ON THE WORK .......

DD.......NICE TO SEE YOU POSTING WHILE DB AND HIS GANG ARE SICK IN BED .

Aloco,

All these losers called you crazy when you kept posting Henne will throw for 4000 yards.

I realize it's pre season and I realize it was Carolina.

Having said that, let's extrapoloate what Henne, his new OC and his new weapons did tonight in a seemingly effortless half of play.

200 Yards!

Times two(1 game)=400 yards!

Times 16 = 6400 yards!

Consider it was Carolina and the pre season, lets knock off 2400 yards. 6400-2400=4000 yards!

Aloco, you Da Man!

Aloco! Aloco! Aloco! Aloco!

PS: Before you ask, YES, I have been drinking!

Bottoms Up!!!!

You're dumb.

Give it a rest you high on. You're dumb, I'm just Crazy!

Whaaaa, they should make him make the throws I fantasize about.

Darryl just posted on QB's avg yards per pass(inc. Brady's), are you retarded as well?

Just curious?

...Odin..I think it is that I just figured out all the freekin ways to play the G major scale all over the fretboard..big break through for me..LOL

I just want to see the team do well. Sometimes I think that expectations are a little unrealistic. Yes deep passes are sweet, big plays exciting. But losing sucks. If we can win by chopping up the defense sweet. If copleting deep passes was easy, everyone would do it more. Fact is that these plays are few and far between. They need to be part of the Arsenal to keep things honest. But hardly the bread and butter for our scheme.

Check downs?

When you got guys like Welker.........oops, Camoron gave welker away.

What I meant to say is Henning realizes that........wait, HenningS "retired(LOL)" AGAIN.

It might be easier to just say BUSH!!!!

PS: STFU!

..Aloco what's up???

We are roasting suckling pigs tommorow. 4-12 pound baby pigs for 80 people. Gonna be sweet. We have burrata with arugula, and heirloom tomatoes. And we will roast fingerling potatoes, and fennel under the pigs... Wish you could be here. Pretty decent wedding menu.

Darryl, on a serious NOTE(pun INtended)you just made it too a spiritual plain. Once you learn that the G Major Pentatonic is the same as the E Minor Pentatonic, your Guitar will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know from here on out.

This may or may not sound strange at this point, but if you keep at it, you will soon know exactly what I mean.

PS: If you believe in GOD, he allegedly created music as a way for the Angels to sing praise!

PSS: Good Luck to you my friend and yes, I'm pretty toasted at the moment ;)

...Odin.Thanks I don't want to clog up the blog with to much "Non Football" talk but I have been playing about 3-4 hours a day. Can't put it down. Bought a fender jazz bass(on your recommendation) Having a blast.. Learning something that was totaly foriegn to me 6 weeks ago has been good for the soul.

Back to football...It looks like Ryan Williams is done for the season. It is impposible to say he would have been injured here because obviously the circumstances would have been different. Sucks for him, looked like a serious knee injury. My point is that I think the reason the Phins went with Thomas is he has the build of a back that can carry the load. Sure injuries happen, and there isn't anything you can do if you take a helmet to the knee. But you can surely have some foresight as to getting a guy you think has the constitution to take a pounding. That is what I think we have in Thomas.

Geez ArmadA,

After months and months of hearing about how terrible Henne is, I'm really looking forward to tommorrows blog about............BUSH?

Bush! Bush! Bush! Bush!

PS: Wink, wink!!!!

I see all my favorites have posted

I also see several of you have imbibed! Profusely!

Again, I love BUSH, and Reggie too!

Darryl,

Don't ever worry about clogging up this blog.

You've seen the stuff that gets routinely posted here. Armando could always whip out a big can of draino if need be, but blog hits are blog hits.

Just for the record, I ALWAYS enjoy your posts(even the ones I don't agree with-LOL).

ValHalla Bro!!!!

Redsky,

YES! YES! I LOVE BUSH TOO!

Well, I mean, I don't like Kardashian Bush, but ah Reggie ROCKS!!!!~

PS: YES AGAIN, I have profuely Imbibed. Life is GOOD!!!!

...I hope that the flashes of Bush(these jokes are never going to get old) that we saw tonight are just a precursor to the season ahead. What a weapon. Something this team desperatley needed. That was awesome tonight. Looked like a real NFL offense.

I know the naysayers will rebut with it's only preseason lets see what happens when it's for real. You have every right to say this, and to that point you are right. But! If Reggie plays at that level we could have the most exciting and explosive back in the division. We lacked playmakers, we have them now.

The team admittidley is far from perfect, and yes there are some holes that need filled. But Bush brings a level of playmaking abilty that must be accounted for. You cannot put a premium on that. IT will make the other players better. You may all think I'm nuts, or just overly excited about 2 quarters of offense. Whatever, It's been awhile.

Ps. Odin..Thanks..You don't always agree with what I have to say????WTF, I thought we were tight..lol

henne can throw the deep ball... go look at the Michigan TAPES than pass judgment. Part of having success as a QB is having a running game and receiver that can catch and run the right routes

Henne has thrown the deep ball for us! Remember that 2009 home game against the JETS? 79 Yarder to TED GINN JR Over Derelle Revis?
Oh Armando would love to forget that! Didnt he have another long bomb to Devone Bess that year too?
Henne Haters will always HATE Henne, EVen if he Has these stats this year
65.5% completions, 27 TD's 7 INT's 3159 yards. 104.8 passer rating. THose were Drew Brees 4th year stats, following what was a Very BAD year for Brees. ANd is also very much within reach for Henne.
Armando would still hate him though.

I clapped and stomped my feet up and down. CLOMP! CLOMP CLOMP!

Oh, it was grand!

Henne missed on 2 deep TD's. What the hell yall talking about?

Jay,EVERY QB has missed long passes before. If you want to look for the negatives, you can find them with ANYONE. I have Seen MARINO miss, Brady MISS, Brees MISS Peyton MISS It amazes me how many Dolphin fans keep looking for reasons why Henne will fail! Even when he does GOOD, You still look for something BAD.
HAs got to be a depressing way to live, just saying........When can anyone be happy, when even in the good times, you look for the bad?

HENNE KEEPS MISSING GATES!

Henne simply cannot read the field

Hennes passes were Dinks. I was laughing w my son about it

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/809450-miami-dolphins-10-reasons-of-how-chad-henne-could-become-the-next-drew-brees
Cut and Paste this to your Browser and Read this, it may surprise you. I have known about the similarities before, as I actually do research BEFORE I GIVE UP on someone... as at 1 time I was going to do with Henne..... But this , just 1 more reason to think......... It isnt how you START, it is how you FINISH.

It's a win, Henne, according to Sparano is the QB, it is what it is, but it's better than last year!

THE HENNE WAGON IS STILL TAKEN PASSANGERS.

ALL ABOARD!!!

WOW!!!

DOES HE LOOK GOOD OR WHAT.

LOL,Henne had a good game vs. the Panthers, So did 14 QBs last year....5 and 11..

ARMANDO, ARMANDO, ARMANDO:

I JUST SAW YOUR QB LIST AND IT MADE ME LAUGH.

NAME THE 5 QBs THAT THREW FOR OVER 4000 YARDS.

HERE'S SOME HELP.

ELI IS ONE.

THERE's ONLY 5 QBs THAT THREW FOR OVER 30 TDs.

ELI IS ONE OF THOSE.

OHHH K HERE's ONE MORE FOR YOU.

THER'S ONLY 4 QBs THAT THREW FOR OVER 4,000 YARDS AND HAD OVER 30 TDs.

DO YOU REALLY WANT TO GUESS WHO's IN THAT "ELITE" CLASS.

ELI IS THERE.

I BET

ARMANDO

WON'T

ANSWER

ME.

BUT I WILL ASK ALL OF YOU.

IF THAT'S NOT "ELI"TE THEN WHAT IS.

LIKE I SAID HE'S A HATER.

AND ELI BEAT HIS PATS...

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY...

MEN LIE WOMEN DO TOO BUT NUMBERS DON'T...

FP4FGS:

TO HELL WITH LAST YEAR.

THIS IS THE SAME TEAM THAT BEAT A 10 WIN TEAM LASTYEAR.

IF YOUR GOING TO GIVE THEM CREDIT FOR THAT WIN GIVE THE FINS CRED FOR THE WIN ALSO...

Cred, I give them Cred for there win tonight, But Sept 12th is right around the corner bro, Are you satisfied with the team so far?

Sept 12th Gonna be biblical, Another David vs Golithe.

I Would venture 85% on monday night will actually be rooting for Miami, I hope they show up...

Some thoughts. First,Winning breeds confidence...Period

Second, Henne will do much better with this new Coach and Offensive system.

Third, Griese is an analyst and not a color Man.

Fourth, the only chance(and a slim one at that) of beating NE on Sept. 12 is to put severe pressure on Pretty Boy as he tends to jump around in the pocket when the heat is on. Also, (a near impossibility) we have to score first. Treat it as sudden death overtime, we have to win the coin toss.

Fifth, a more sensible approach would be not to kill the Team on the 1st encounter vs the Patriots and save them for the 2nd Round.

Sixth, I got drunk as hell last night and couldn't finish seeing the game. What happened?

Still, 9-7.

Trying to open a pack of Bacon. I guess you have to be a Magician to do it. I'll use the scissors.

Oh, by the way, Cam Newton is going to be a very good QB.

you just had to know that whether henne played well last night or not that there were still going to be people on this blog who were going to dismiss it. exucses heard: it's only a preseason game; against carolina, no less. they are one of the worst teams in the league and they were missing starters. but, had tom brady done what henne did last night and everyone would have been all over that. give it a break! secondly, the fins were this close ( ) to winning 10 games last year and they didn't have bush, pouncey, burnett, odrick and gates. they also have some guys returning for their 2nd year like wallace, moore and reshad jones. you also have to admit that, at no time in the past 2 or 3 seasons, did you see the offense be as explosive running the ball or passing the ball as it was last night; preseason or otherwise. over 400 yds total offense with 165 on the ground. yeah, i know it was carolina and some mistakes were made but you must admit it is a solid improvement over last weeks game vs atlanta. they needed this. they needed to go in and have a good game at home with their first team in there no matter who the opponent was and do well. like it said, if they came out with a 13-10 win you could argue that it was nothing but they played the way you would expect them to considering who they played. with that said, i stick to my original 11-5 season prediction.

C'mon. c'mon, rise and shine, rise and shine!

it's amazing what that first cup of coffee can do for you in the morning.

I'm more into Bacon this morning.

They said thick cut Bacon and it looks more like Onion skin.

Well well well. The coward Armando is now gushing like a school girl. What a shameless hack. WHy can't we get a REAL writer?

You checking up on Armando?

That was good as hell. I'm going to have some more.

In between uses, always clean your griddle with a dry cloth.

9-7, Man, 9-7. Ask LV.

It's not what they Publish but what they don't publish that draws the attention.

here's my analysis of the situation:
o-line: when jake long returns to action murtha should move back to right tackle. so, your starting five would be long, incognito, pouncey, carey and murtha. despite the penalities, murtha is a beastly man and is earning his stripes. as the preseason and season progresses things should only get better. pouncey is a beast in the middle and probably will make carey a better player at right guard. he is a definite upgrade from what they had at center last year. the biggest problem with the o-line last year was the constant shuffling it underwent throughout the season. with players playing in established positions and playing together the line should do much better this season.

rbs:
speed was lacking in every way, shape and form last year. they have significantly upgraded the position with the presence of reggie bush. daniel thomas is showing some good things but he still needs to develop. as the game went on last night he seemed to settle in and start running the ball somewhat better, becoming more patient and waiting for his blockers to open the holes. sheets is also someone who needs to begin to blossom. he has some good potential and has had some good runs but also has had some not so good runs. he needs to pick up the pace and when he is given the opportunity he needs to show he can get the job done. they need to have the depth at the rb position if they are going to compete in a full season. lex hillard isn't getting a lot of touches but, when he does, he is somewhat inconsistent also. hopefully, he can improve, as well.
if the backs can stay healthy for a full season we should see a rejuvinated running game. bushes "dual threat" capabilities will make it difficult for teams to defend everyone on the field. thomas could help wear down defenses with his size.

Now, I will prepare some Cuban coffee.
