Live blog of preseason home opener right here

Preseason football in South Florida: The constant threat of rain -- it's already showed. The humidity. The baseball infield.

Let's hang! There will be a live blog of the Dolphins' 2011 preseason home debut right here starting at 7:30. I'll come back in a little while and tell you which players -- other than Jake Long -- will not play tonight. I'll be interested to see whether/how long Will Allen plays tonight after missing most of the past 21 months with various injuries.

[Update: The Dolphins are announcing Jared Odrick replaces Randy Starks in the starting lineup tonight. Allen will not play.  LB Austin Spitler, G Garrett Chisolm, T Ray Willis, OL Joe Berger, T Jake Long and TE Mickey Shuler are also scratched.]

Things to look for tonight -- other than Chad Henne's performance of course?

Dolphins linebackers versus Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey. The Dolphins are going to face very good tight end play in the regular season opener against New England. They have a history of struggling against tight ends in the past. Let's see how Karlos Dansby, Kevin Burnett, and to some degree strong safety Yeremiah Bell fare tonight.

I want to see if Phillip Livas, who opened eyes last week with a 75-yard punt return, can show some consistency or if that was one-time luck. I'm not saying Livas needs to take another one to the house. I am saying he needs to show wiggle, ability to make the first guy miss consistently, and then acceleration past the second tackler. Blocking is supposed to take care of the rest.

I want to see if Matt Moore can show the spark again this week that he showed against Atlanta.

I want to see progress from center Mike Pouncey individually and then some clue that the offensive line is coming together as a group.

I want to see Anthony Fasano catch the ball rather than have the ball boink off his hands.

I want to see the front seven on defense stop the run, something they struggled to do last week at Atlanta.

And, obviously, I want to see a win. There is no substitute for victory.

Zangp your full of barbara Streisland

Replace the fist pump with the 3 amigos saddle dance. Don't know what else to call it...

Daboll with Henning-esque reverse. LOL!

the end around can be such a momentum killer

There's the Chad I know...

Not what we want to see on 4th down Henne!

See what I mean? Why throw a ball short of the first down marker to a guy coming back???

Folks, the short game looks good, but to have success against good teams, Henne needs to establish the long ball. He has not done that remotely yet.

Was that pass tipped?

End around does not like the Dolphins no matter who is running it or who is calling it. Momentum killer 7 out of 10 times.

Thats the Henne we know and love...

That was a Henning play! Fake left, draw the LBs there look right, then a screen left where all of the lbs are? HORRIBLE, throw that one out Daboll. Mando please ask them about that specific play if you get a chance? Totally confusing

Loving the aggressiveness, didn't like end around, Henning nightmares there

Let us see Sheets and Grigsby.
Set Bush, don't get him hurt in preseason.
If Henne is the man, let us see Moore.

I just hope they dont just rely on Bush running the ball. We need a strong passing game this season.

Just a bad pass to Marshall.

I like Barbara!

Dolphins DBs shutting down Carolina's WRs but the TEs are doing good work.

Hey I want him to throw deep too but here's part of my problem with the haters, Penny couldn't throw deep and everyone was fine with the short game.

Strong showing thus far?

You would ziggu

...actually replay looks like it might have been Marshall's fault for being too slow to get up there.

That's the Cam Newton I know. Highly inaccurate as he was prior to the draft!

LouD, if you watch that replay, there was only one Panther there. We just failed to block him. I know it looked ugly, and it was, but that play could have been successful if blocked properly.

Yes, good defense!!

We can celebrate the dink and dunk all night long. Reality will bite soon enough, without establishing a long ball (meaning more than one a game), the short game will be snuffed out.

All in all the play calling has been good till the end a round. Bush looks awesome!! A lot of positives right now.

Burnett just made a play that Cranning CHowder will never be able to make.

Not too bad, lot of wasted opportunities. Marshall needed to get open! Burnett is great!

Henne looks more comfortable in this game, but I would like to see him go down field.

Where'd Mando go? Already working on his column on Henne?

I farted blood

Shame you can't see what an enormous talent Barbara is. I guess you're limited musical taste has you stuck on 3 chord progressions and diatonic melodies (you didn't understand that, so I'm saying you are shallow).

Hope reggie can hold up for entire season. He looks awesome.

Armando, So far have you been impressed with the improvement in this team from last week?

Guys I think we need to stop the b*tching of the dink and dunk. I am of the opinion that this ia a pre season game and it doesn't count. Therefore we aren't going to show off our new offensive scheme especially because our first game is against a division opponent. I'm just happy that our O can go out there and have a good series with no int's.

Game will be on tomorrow on the NFL network at 1pm eastern

Fact is Newton hasn't thrown even one completion to a WR.

TEs always cut us up.

Dolphins "D" is not a or the problem.
We need to score and not try to lose

Armando where are all the dudes that were here in the Summer time saying they wanted Cam Newton lol!!!!

I can't watch the replay here Magic but I'll take your word for it. When they snapped the ball I saw 4 defenders move to the left so I assumed that's what caused the failure.

How'd they get to Panthers territory?!?!

The best part of this game so far for me isn`t the ball movement but Pouncey who is picking it up inside very nicely, sweet!!!

What a pass from Henne to Bess!!!!

Nice 15 yard pass by Henne

Now that pass to Bess is what I've been waiting too see!

17 yard pass by Henne ..nice

The commentators couldn't even decide who Henne was throwing the ball to... wow

Henne simply struggles to complete the deep throws.

Thats the ticket..

If you want to see our QB upright and clean expect alot of Holds!!

Damn Henne, you have to hit the long pass

That's the Henne I want to see! Reads the D at the line, makes the audible, fires pass for 17 yds. Beautiful!

...damn, followed by an overthrow.

try to try not to lose.

Deep threat!

Fasano drop...guy is inconsistent
